Problem Converting from MSWord Doc to PDF

We're new to Acrobat 8 and just used it to convert a Word document. The document is a single page flyer including text, a jpg and a coupon composed of text and several tables.
After a couple of adjustments to the word doc it converts o.k. with one exception. That is, the pdf image (text, jpg and coupon) is only about 95% the size of the original.
Any suggestions? We might be able to get by, but would prefer the pdf image be full size. Thanks.

Does WORD print that way to any other printer? Does the Preview show the reduction? You might check the printing defaults under the Advanced tab in properties. In the defaults screen select layout and the Advanced button. There is likely a button that indicates scaling. See if that is the issue. Also be sure you have the correct paper selected.

Problem converting Word 2007 DOC to PDF 9
I have a Word 2007 DOC (not docx) file with pictures and text which converted perfectly with Distiller 8. I installed CS4 Distiller 9, and now the same DOC file flows over onto several extra pages. I am using the default settings. Any idea what has changed. Thanks in advance.

First, select the Adobe PDF printer in WORD. Then go through the document to check for the flow of the document. It should print the same as you see in the document after the printer has been selected.

Acrobat 9 Pro will work in Vista.
Vista's UAC can be a nusiance though.

  • Links breaking when converting from word docs to PDFs in Acrobat X Pro

I have experienced this same problem when trying to convert word documents to PDFs in Preview:
For hyperlinks that are active in MS Word (2011 version for Mac), but take up more than one line (they include a line break), the same links in the converted PDFs will only recognize the first line of text in the hyperlink (the hyperlinks in the docs I need to convert are the full URLs that are also hyperlinks to the same URL). As a result these links open a URL that is shortened and doesn't exist.
Is this a common problem, and is there a way have the full links be recognized automatically when converting to PDFs?
I have been able to get around this so far by creating the "invisible rectangle" links in Acrobat behind where the full link should be, but it is painstaking for large docs with many links.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Tim

    Afraid not
This is an Old Problem that has been banted about since Acrobat has existed. We have two companies that are blaming each other for the Problem Adobe and Microsoft. Instead of Blaming each other Adobe needs to get their head  out of their back side and fix the problem. I mean 15 years is enough to do blaming.
You can take the same PDF's with links created Mac Office  Document and open in Office for PC and create  the PDF and it works in Acrobat. Or you can create the PDF in MacOffice and open in Acrobat PC and it works. So the problem is squarely with Acrobat. But they refuse to fix it.
You might download and try PDFPen Pro and see if  can create working Links in it. or a Utility called CUPS-PDF. CUPS-PDF installs a Print Driver Much Like Acrobat Use to.
You go to it to create the PDF. It is sent to a special folder. and the PDF are named with number appended to begining (example: Job_1TheMoon.docx.pdf).  Rename as desired and open may have links.

  • Problems converting from .ai to .eps/.pdf

I recently designed a logo for a client that included both a gradient and transparency.
I flattened the transparency, expanded the strokes and embedded the text before saving a copy of it in .eps and another in .pdf (PDF/x-1a:2003)
When I opened both files in Preview, I found these two problems:
I didn't have this problem when I saved the file in other formats (.jpg, .png)
What caused this and how can I fix it?
Also, while I'm here, is PDF/x-1a:2003 preset optimized specifically for printing?
    Thank You!

JPG and PNG are mostly for web work and essentially rasterize the art--the problems you're seeing are the result of stitching (a process that takes place when transparency is flattened)--if you are prepping files for 'print house'-- DON'T FLATTEN transparency or expand strokes, embed text. or save as .eps or PDF/x-1a--instead--just save as .ai and .pdf (use the 'illustrator default' PDF setting) that will allow the print house to use their RIP to process the file(s)--unless of course, the print house has 'specific' settings they want for PDFs--in which case, call and ask what setting they prefer (note: the illustrator default PDF setting will generate a larger file, but that's why there is so much portable media available-ie-CDs, DVDs, thumb drives, and a variety of free FTP sites to send files to printers).

You cannot fix anything in Reader. If you have a problem with the tool

  • Unable to convert Microsoft Word doc. to PDF in Words (there is no response)

Unable to convert Microsoft Word doc to PDF in Words (Does not respond) or Create PDF from a Word doc. in Adobe Acrobat X Standard 10.1.1 with all updates installed. I receive apop-up saying "Missing PDF Maker Files: Dou you want to run the installer in Repair Mode"  I have done this several times. I have un-installrd and re installed the program twice. Still does not work. I'm running Windows 7 Home version and Microsoft Office XP 2002. This is a brabd new Acrobat program right out of the box. Suggestions Please.

In WORD 2002, I believe you can only print to the Adobe PDF printer. I think that WORD 2003 is the first compatible with AA X. Check out http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/333/333504.html.

    Anyone know the answer?

    Hi michaelp70541244,
What did you use to convert the Word doc to PDF? Regardless of the method you used, however, some fonts will never be embedded, if licensing for those fonts restricts it.

  • Problem Converting Word 2007 Document to PDF

I am having trouble converting a Word 2007 document to a PDF document.  I have Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional.  I have tried to convert the document using the right-click drop down list as well as converting from within the Word document screen itself.  I get the same results -- no PDF document is converted (or opened in a PDF screen).
When I do the convert from the drop down list or from within the Word document, it gets to the point where it asks me for the name of the new document.  I click save (on the Word document name) and it looks like it is converting, but then the Adobe Acrobat conversion window disappears and no PDF document opens.  I noticed that on the frequently used documents list (from the Windows start button), the new PDF document is listed, but when I click on it, Windows say it cannot find the associated file.  When I look through the list of documents in the folder, the new PDF file is not there either.
I ran the repair program in Adobe Acrobat.  After it was done, I clicked the button not to restart until later.  When that window closed, I heard the windows "gong" sound with a message to reinstall acrobat.  I rebooted and the problem persists.
I also have a Fujitsu Scansnap machine which scans documents to PDF files and that seems to still be working fine, so I know at least part of Acrobat is working fine.
I check the list of disabled add ins in Office and nothing is disabled.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Open the document in WORD. Select the print menu in WORD (don't know what to call the stupid file icon MS now uses) and select the Adobe PDF printer. See if printing there works.
If the print does work, then skip the next few comments. If it does not, then go back to the print menu and check the print-to-file button and print. You will be asked for a location and file name. Be sure to note where you put the file and change the extension to PS (like filename.ps). Then starte Distiller and open the PS file you created in Distiller (if you forget to change the extension to PS, then it will be a PRN file and just select that one). Check if the PDF is created this time. If not, you should get error messages from Distiller -- copy all of the error message back here for us to see.
If the PDF creation in the last step worked, then open the task list (ctrl-alt-del -- select the task list) and look for AcroTray.exe. If it is not running, then it has probably been deleted from the startup. It is found in the Distiller folder of Acrobat for most versions, but may have moved for your version. In any case, restart it if needed.
As for PDF Maker that you are apparently using, that is a different process. However, check the printing process first and see if you can get it working. If not, PDF Maker will likely not work either. With AA8 and before, PDF Maker was simply a preprocessor for the printer and the selection of a DOC file in Acrobat simply uses PDF Maker to create the PDF. So you have to back out to more basics in creation and be sure those are working before the more advanced technique you are trying to use has any hope.

  • Converting from Word 2013 to PDF - grey background appears

When converting my document from Word 2013 to pdf, it appears to be on a grey background. Now my images are "sticking" out instead of blending in.
How can I get the background to appear white, as it does on my screen.

Be sure that WORD gets patched too. Often these problems turn out to be OFFICE issues. You might try a sample print to paper to see the issue. Also, AA is at 8.1.6.
There have been several problems folks have had with WORD 2007. The updates help some, but it is almost as though MS put some hooks in WORD 2007 to cross up Acrobat in some cases. I have run PPT documents with earlier versions of WORD and Acrobat with no problem. WORD 2007 would produce a totally different result that was not expected. There are even differences in graphics that you put in a DOC file versus a DOCX file. The latter seems to be doing some strange things to graphics. I would tell you more, but I really try to stay away from WORD unless I need it for compatibility with others.

How do I convert a WORD doc to pdf

Easiest way if you have Word installed: from Word's File menu, do "Save as..." and you will find a pdf option in the "Format" pull-down:
The example is from Office:Mac 2008; should be similar in Office 2011.

  • Conversion of postscript (converted from secure or encrypted pdf) to pdf

I have a postscript file which has been created from secure or encrypted (opening restriction) pdf.
Now when i use distiller to convert this postscript file to pdf then distiller cannot produce a pdf file.
The log file contains following text:
This PostScript file was created from an encrypted PDF file.
Redistilling encrypted PDF is not permitted.
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
    1) Is there a way to convert this postscript file into pdf ?
I have a limitation that i cannot remove security from secure pdf.
    2) Do distiller provide any settings which can be changed to convert
this kind of ps(from secure pdf) to pdf.
    3) Can we provide password to distiller during process of conversion to
    pdf.
    4) If above methods do not work then is there a way we can
programatically using Distiller Api's for conversion to pdf.
    Like methods 'FileToPdf' etc.
    Thanks in advance.

I am facing a similar problem.
My workflow dictates that I convert the input PDF job initially to PS and finally back to PDF. If the input PDF file is secure (it's not encrypted - you will still be able to open the document), the redistillation of PS to PDF fails while using Normalizer 6.0 && 9.0 libraries. If I use Normalizer 505 library, the redistillation succeeds. I have checked with the same generated PS on both Distiller 6.0 && 9.0, and both the versions fail to reconvert as well. I am a little surprised that 6.0 and 9.0 will fail to do something that 505 library manages.
    Any suggestions?
