Problem converting PDF to text

I have the latest version of adobe on an xp and I am converting pdf files to text files. I get the first couple of files completed fine, the download really fast, like 300 pages in less than 30 secounds. Then the it starts to lock up. It takes forever to download a document that is 30 pages. Anyone know what is going on?
I have tried this on both of my computers and the same thing happens. These are ebooks in pdf that I am converting to text files because the font is to small to be viewed on the sony 505 using pdf even enlarged.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

>I am converting to text files because the font is to small to be viewed on the sony 505 using pdf even enlarged
That doesn't make sense. Especially since you can easily enlarge up to 6,500%. One font could fill the screen.
Also, what do you mean by downloading? If you are converting a PDF to text, where does downloading anything come in to play?
And, Adobe what? You are talking about Reader correct? Adobe is a company with many applications.

I went to the site and did exactly as the 'support' said. I tried three PDF documents for conversion to Word. On clicking 'convert', the last window gives the file with .doc suffix. After I save and open it the window says, "The XML file cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents." Under "Details", it says, "Incorrect document syntax".
    Please guide me further.

    Hi prates77,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble converting files. Are you receiving the conversion error regardless of the file that you try to convert? Does the error occur whether you use the web interface, or convert via Reader? And an odd question: how many files do you have stored in your Acrobat.com account? We have seen reports of this error when there are a large number of files stored in the root folder of your Acrobat.com account.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
    Best,

Problems converting PDF to MS Word document.  I successfully converted 4 files and now subsequent files generate a "conversion failure" error when attempting to convert the file.  I have a large manuscript and I separated each chapter to assist with the conversion; like I said, first 4 parts no problem, then conversion failure.  I attempted to convert the entire document and same result.  I specifically purchased the export to Word feature.  Please assist.  I initially had to export the Word Perfect document into PDF and attempting to go from PDF to MS Word.

    Hi sdr2014,
I'm sorry to hear your conversion process has stalled. It sounds as though the problem isn't specific to one file, as you've been unable to convert anything since the first four chapters converted successfully.
    So, let's try this:
If you're converting via the ExportPDF website, please log out, clear the browser cache, and then log back in. If you're using Reader, please choose Help > Check for Updates to make sure that you have the most current version installed.
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Problem converting PDFs to Word or Excel, does anyone know why?

I have been converting PDFs to Word or Excel for several years but lately every time I try an error message comes up saying "an error occurred while trying to AdobeExport PDF online", does anyone know why?

  • Problems converting pdf to Word in Acrobat X Standard

I am not able to convert pdf docs into Word using acrobat x.  I have tried running OCR before attempting the converstion but that does not help.  It goes all the way through allowing me to save the document as a docx but then I get the message "Save As failed to process the document.  No file was created".  Any ideas?

You have both Adobe Reader (which offers one kind of conversion, paid for one way), and Adobe Acrobat Pro (which offers another kind of conversion, paid another way). Be sure you understand that these are two different bits of software, and that you can and must choose which one to use.

  • Convert pdf to text in adobe pro x

I would like to convert a PDF document into text.  Can someone advise?

If the PDF was originally scanned as a picture (JPG) there will be no "renderable" text in it to save from. You'll need to run OCR on it in order to save it as text. Reader CANNOT do OCR, Acrobat Pro can, under Tools.

  • Problem Converting PDF to Excel

Hello, I am trying to convert a pdf file to an excel spreadsheet so that I can do data sort.  Pdf has about 7 columns on 13 portrait pages.  When converted to excel, I find tha tthesecond column on each page has several columns in it that are apparently merged in different ways.  It looks great on the pdf, but will not allow sorts in excel. Excel does not allow me to change these columns without deleting.  Have tried cut & paste, etc to no avail. Do I need to do something to the pdf before conversion? The adobe pro x is of no value to me if I can not do this. Thanks

Hi folks.  After converting a pdf to excell workbook, I was unable to sort or filter data so it was of no use to me.  I tried various ways of copying into excel, but none worked.  The message popped up "merged cells are not the same size.  Cannot perform sort."  If I unmerged as the help message told me, I lost columns of data.  Just by experimenting, I found if Ise;ected the format button and selected eliminate format and hyperlinks, I could do the sorts.  This was pretty simple and not sure why it is not in the help section as I wasted about 7 hours trying to do the cut and paste.  I asked customer support and was told that there were problems with converting to Excel and could probably not do it.  Kind of frustrating even though I did solve it.

  • Problem converting pdf to word doc

adobe scans the pdf file ok, but when i try to convert the document to word im getting a windows internet error message everytime so no document converted - im running windows 7

    Hi Nick,
Please try the steps outlined here for your Internet Explorer troubles: http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-1831
As for the conversion not being a line-for-line match and having trouble with the images, try disabling the 'Recognize text' function and convert your document again.
Let us know how it goes!

  • Having problems converting PDF

Neither of the conversion features are working.
"File", "Save as Other", "Word or Excel Online".............Nothing happens
"Export PDF", the "Convert To" is grey so when I click the "Convert" button nothing happens.
    Am I doing something wrong?

    Hi ckford,
'File> Save as Other' option is not there in Export PDF service but in Acrobat. What version of Acrobat are you using?
Further you also mention that you have tried using Export PDF Service as well. Did you try using it within Adobe Reader or logged on to http://cloud.acrobat.com/
You might also want to check with a different browser and see.

  • Is PDF to Text Fixed in Lion

When Apple released Snow Leopard they broke Preview's (and all other non-Adobe) ability to correctly convert PDF to Text. Has that been rectified in Lion?
    How to test:
Get a (or create) 2 column PDF with a multi column Table imbeded in the middle. Select All and Paste it into TextEdit.
In Leopard, and before, the result would be each 'entire' line of the PDF would be a line in TextEdit, so the first line in TextEdit would contain line 1 of column 1 AND line 1 of column 2 from the PDF. When you got down to the Table, all the rows of data would remain on a row, so you might have line 15 of column 1 AND columns 1 to 8 of row 1 of Table 1 AND line 15 of column 2. Because of spacing issues, the TextEdit version would not be an exact replica of the PDF, but the actual text, row for row, would be EXACT.
In Leopard, and before, if you held the Option Key down whilst selecting text in a PDF it would enter 'smart mode' (or column mode) and automtically attempt to determine the columns of data on a PDF page. This was fine if the page was simple 2 or 3 column text as when you pasted it into TextEdit, you'd get column 1 followed by column 2 followed by column 3, etc etc. This was completely useless if you had a Table, especially if any of the cells were blank, as each column of data would be rendered one after the other.
In Snow Leopard this 'smart mode' was turned On by default and can't be turned Off! More often than not the result is stupid, pointless and lacking any smarts.
This effects ALL PDF applications, such as Skim, and even Adobe Reader.
Currently the only way to correctly render a PDF to Text is to use Adobe Reader and select Save as... Text. ie if you Copy and Paste the text from Reader to TextEdit you get a different result than if you Save as... Text.
Unfortunately Reader is not AppleScriptable so the process can't be automated so the only option I have to convert 1000s of PDF to Text is to send them them to an old G5 running Leopard where Automator converts them and sends them back to me when finished.
Still reading too many bugs with Lion so waiting for 10.7.3, unless PDF is fixed in which case I'll upgrade now.

I may be the only one with this issue and if so then I apologize for mis stating the question.  However, my iMac is less than 2 weeks old and as soon I upgraded I had the issue.  I also saw the same issue listed on MacRumors which lead me to believe that others are aware of the problem.  I just downloaded flash 11 beta and am no longer having that issue.  Perhaps it is specific to the 21.5 inch iMac's i'm not sure.  Hopefully others with similar issues will try the beta and at least be able to surf content without crashing.  Thanks again for everyones quick responses.
PS.  I don't care about Flash either and wish it would go away.

  • Printing problem when PDF is sent to the printer with certain fonts - missing text

I'm running into a printing problem when PDFs containing certain characters of the Calibri font are used.  The text in large sections of the PDF is missing on the paper version, but the text is there on the screen.  It's also happened when the PDFs we created were e-mailed out to a client and printed on their printer.  The problem is not present when printing directly from the programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, etc.).  I've been trying to get tech support from Adobe on this, but every time I call they apologize and say they will call back in 4-6 hours with an answer.  Same result each time, no call back.  If anyone from Adobe is listening, it's case number 184891587.  The font appears as an embedded subset when I look at the document properties.  Sometimes deleting one or two Characters allows for larger text blocks to be printed - i.e. removing a long dash in bold from the heading of a paragraph makes the paragraph reappear when printed to paper from PDF.  In all cases the PDF appears correct on the screen.  Printing as an image allows the text to appear, but the image quality isn't acceptable for small text, even at the 600 dpi setting on the printer.  If the PDF is sent out by e-mail, we do not have control over the end-user's printer setup anyway, so we need this to work in all cases.
The setup/process I'm using is as follows:
    Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-Bit
Microsoft Office 2013 - problem is present when printing documents from Word, Excel or Visio.  Even other variations on documents.
I've tried Acrobat versions 11.0.0 to 11.0.5 as well as Acrobat Pro 11.0.0 and 11.0.1.  Same Result
Printing to Adobe PDF as the printer, from the third party application
Printing to a Xerox printer from PDF using Acrobat - Text missing
Client prints to Konica printer - Text missing
I print to the wide-format Ricoh (which also does 11x17) and the text is present.
Is there something I'm missing?  Is the entire font not getting embedded into the PDF file?  I noticed that rolling back to a much older version of the Calibri font (1.02 compared to 5.72) makes the problem mostly go away, but it's not completely gone.  Is it possible the font is too large to be completely embedded?  Where can I go from here?

Success!  At least for now.  It looks like my problem was fixed with Adobe's most recent update, 11.0.06.  From the release notes:
    PDF creation
Added support for Lotus Notes 9.
Added support for WebCapture in IE 11.
Added support for conversions from AutoCAD 2013.
3652540 A blank pdf is created for files having hidden visual style.
3601108 Flow Chart converts as a multicolored square.
3654345 Word documents missing parts of images in conversion to PDF.
3654572 Temporary file size increases when creating pdf by combining multiple files into one PDF.
3670155 PDF file created with Distiller XI prints incorrectly to some printers. (Emphasis mine)
3599407 Checkbox check marks do not appear in these files.
3663233 IE Web Capture in localized OS: Icons and drop-down menu items are missing and conversion dialog is not localized.
3651931 Chrome Only: Few web pages when converted to pdf from Chrome plugin doesn’t show up the Save As dialog.
3597910 EPM Mode On: Web capture is not working on Windows 8-32 bit when cache folder is missing.
3610644 Firefox 23.0: With Firefox version 23.0 (latest), the WebCapture icon shows up very dim as if it is disabled.
3650244 ODA falis to convert DWG files to PDF for large files.
I don't know if that's definately what solved the problem, but it sure sounds similar and this is the update that made the printing problem go away.  We can't get the PDFs to fail at this point with our printers, even with Calibri 5.72.  I'll come back to thread if we have printing problems at the end-user locations.
