Problem converting Word 2007 DOC to PDF 9

Problem converting Word 2007 DOC to PDF 9
I have a Word 2007 DOC (not docx) file with pictures and text which converted perfectly with Distiller 8. I installed CS4 Distiller 9, and now the same DOC file flows over onto several extra pages. I am using the default settings. Any idea what has changed. Thanks in advance.

First, select the Adobe PDF printer in WORD. Then go through the document to check for the flow of the document. It should print the same as you see in the document after the printer has been selected.

  • Problems converting Word 2007 document to PDF

    Greetings,
Have a brand new shiny computer with Office 2007 basic (Word 2007, Excel 2007 and Outlook 2007). Comes with Adobe Acrobat Standard. Installed Adobe Acrobat Standard with no errors. Opened a Word 2007 document that has an embedded Excel 2007 spreadsheet (its a document for generating quotes). Word document looks fine in Word. Prints to paper fine as well. Tried Save-As Pdf and the resulting PDF has big black boxes where the spreadsheet should be. Tried printing to the Adobe PDF printer with the same result. Downloaded update for Adobe Acrobat Standard and installed it. Adobe Acrobat Standard is now version 8.1.2. Tried saving as PDF, same problem.
    Word 2007 is (12.0.6015.5000) MSO (12.0.6017.5000)
Adobe Acrobat Standard is ver 8.1.2
    Microsoft Windows XP Pro.
Any ideas on how to fix this ?
    thanks,
    Darryl

    Darryl,
Bill is correct - "Save as PDF" is the Microsoft PDF tool. However, on your Word Save As menu, you should also see Save As > Adobe PDF, which is the one you want. (At least this is how it appears in Word 2007 with Acrobat 8.1.1 installed.) You should also be able to select the Acrobat tab in Word 2007 and select Create PDF.
I tried a test with Acrobat Professional 8.1.1, and the spreadsheet inserted in a Word file shows up just fine in the PDF. I selected "Fully functional PDF" in the Save As dialog box (not "Quick and Simple PDF"). Also, did not create a tagged PDF. Does Acrobat Standard have these options? (Note: The PDF was converted correctly from both a .doc and a .docx file, with an .xls file inserted.)
    Hope this helps. --GMc

  • Convert Word 2007 doc to PDF, numbered bookmarks lose numbering

I've never had trouble converting a Word 2007 document to PDF before. All the bookmarks I selected converted nicely and retained their numbering. Recently my IT department upgraded me to Acrobat Pro X and I'm having several bookmark issues.
    1. Some of the bookmarks I select in the Acrobat ribbon --> Preferences --> Bookmarks are not converted and I have to manually create them in the PDF.
    2. None of the bookmarks retain Word numbering. I have Word 2007 Headings numbered in the document, but in the PDF, none of the bookmarks are numbered. This is a major pain to edit each bookmark to add the proper heading numbers (1, 1.1, 1.2, 2, 2.1, etc.).
Are these known issues and are defect corrections in the works? Is anyone else having these problems?

I'm having the same problem. As you can see, the number appears in the heading, which came from MS Word, but not in the bookmark.

  • Problems converting Word 2007 images to PDF

    Hello everyone,
I am in desperate need for help. I have been trying to convert my word 2007 files into PDF but my graphs and tables come out not as clear as the orginals, the outline of images is thicker, the characters seem darker/bold and occasionally with distortions.
I have Microsoft Office Word 2007 and Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional.
I really hope someone can help me because it is a major issue for me as I need to publish the content of my file very soon.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Just to check things here are a few steps.<br /><br />Checking that the process works in basic form:<br />1. Print to the Adobe PDF printer with Print To File selected.<br />2. Open the file in Distiller to convert to PDF.<br />a. WORKS - That means things work fine and we need to look for AcroTray.<br />b. FAILS - Look at the messages that Distiller creates. That typically provides information on the problem.<br /><br />For AcroTray:<br />1. Open Explorer and go to the Distiller folder. It is typically in Program Files>Adobe>Acrobat <your AA number>>Distiller. In that folder you should see AcroTray.exe. (in my case the folder is C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Distillr) Put a link to AcroTray.exe in the Startup Folder of Windows so that it always starts with Windows.<br /><br />Once you have started AcroTray, you should be able to print directly to the Adobe PDF printer without the file option and get a PDF directly. All that AcroTray does is automate the print to file and running of Distiler. PDF Maker is adds an additional step by putting PDF Marks in the printer file that is written before running Distiller.<br /><br />Hope that helps. Bill

  • Problem Converting Word 2007 Document to PDF

I am having trouble converting a Word 2007 document to a PDF document.  I have Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional.  I have tried to convert the document using the right-click drop down list as well as converting from within the Word document screen itself.  I get the same results -- no PDF document is converted (or opened in a PDF screen).
When I do the convert from the drop down list or from within the Word document, it gets to the point where it asks me for the name of the new document.  I click save (on the Word document name) and it looks like it is converting, but then the Adobe Acrobat conversion window disappears and no PDF document opens.  I noticed that on the frequently used documents list (from the Windows start button), the new PDF document is listed, but when I click on it, Windows say it cannot find the associated file.  When I look through the list of documents in the folder, the new PDF file is not there either.
I ran the repair program in Adobe Acrobat.  After it was done, I clicked the button not to restart until later.  When that window closed, I heard the windows "gong" sound with a message to reinstall acrobat.  I rebooted and the problem persists.
I also have a Fujitsu Scansnap machine which scans documents to PDF files and that seems to still be working fine, so I know at least part of Acrobat is working fine.
I check the list of disabled add ins in Office and nothing is disabled.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Open the document in WORD. Select the print menu in WORD (don't know what to call the stupid file icon MS now uses) and select the Adobe PDF printer. See if printing there works.
If the print does work, then skip the next few comments. If it does not, then go back to the print menu and check the print-to-file button and print. You will be asked for a location and file name. Be sure to note where you put the file and change the extension to PS (like filename.ps). Then starte Distiller and open the PS file you created in Distiller (if you forget to change the extension to PS, then it will be a PRN file and just select that one). Check if the PDF is created this time. If not, you should get error messages from Distiller -- copy all of the error message back here for us to see.
If the PDF creation in the last step worked, then open the task list (ctrl-alt-del -- select the task list) and look for AcroTray.exe. If it is not running, then it has probably been deleted from the startup. It is found in the Distiller folder of Acrobat for most versions, but may have moved for your version. In any case, restart it if needed.
As for PDF Maker that you are apparently using, that is a different process. However, check the printing process first and see if you can get it working. If not, PDF Maker will likely not work either. With AA8 and before, PDF Maker was simply a preprocessor for the printer and the selection of a DOC file in Acrobat simply uses PDF Maker to create the PDF. So you have to back out to more basics in creation and be sure those are working before the more advanced technique you are trying to use has any hope.

  • Word 2007 doc to PDF missing bookmark numbers

    Hi,
I am using Acrobat 9 Pro to convert a Word 2007 doc to PDF. The doc converts fine and I get the bookmarks.
The problem though is that the generated bookmarks are missing their numbers.
    For example:
In Word 2007, it will look like:
    1 Overview
    1.1 Introduction
In Acrobat 9 Pro generated PDF, it looks like:
    Overview
    Introduction
I looked through the forums and other people have posted similar questions but no resolution was seen.
    Can somebody please help out?
I talked to Adobe tech support and they were no help.
    Thanks

    Hi all,
Here is an update to this issue.
First of all I agree with Nick that this *is* an Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro issue. (Possibly even with older versions).
Anyway below are the steps I followed to get this to work. It is quite a round about way but I'm happy I got it to work.
    * Generate the PDF as usual from Word 2007. (Maybe you don't need to generate the bookmarks here because we are going to delete them later anyway).
    * Open the newly generated PDF in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro
    * Click on the Bookmarks tab---if you have the Word 2007 generated bookmarks here select them all (Ctrl-A) and delete them :(
    * Then click on the "Gears" icon in the Bookmarks tab.
    * In the drop down menu select the "New Bookmarks from Structure..."
    * Highlight the structures you wish to have for your bookmarks. For example I chose H1, H2, H3 assuming those were Heading1, ...
    * Click OK
    * The newly generated bookmarks contain section numbers
    * Unfortunately this shows up within a bookmark called "Untitled" So I again select all (Ctrl-A)
    * Unselect "untitled" and move (drag) everything else to one level above "Untitled"
    * Then I delete "Untitled".
Unfortunately this new bookmark is a flat structure---i.e. you cannot collapse it.
Oh well! At least it works.
If any of you can come up with a better solution, please post it here :)
    Thanks

  • Converting Word 2007 files to PDF

    Hi,
When I convert Word 2007 file to PDF via Acrobat Pro. 9, The Section Titles show on the bookmark area are as usual, but the Section number for the titles are disappear. For Example: the title set as "1.1 Test", the bookmark shows only "Test" and the "1.1" is disappeared. (the title assigned as style heading 3 and the section number is generated by multi-level list).
I have been converting Word 2003 file via Acrobat Pro. 7 and Word 2007 file Via Acrobat 8.1, they are all fine.
I tried to change settings on PDFmaker for Acorbat Pro 9 and failed. I also checked through the manual and found nothing. Can anyone tell me how to have both the section number and title show on the Bookmark section of PDF file with my present MS Word 2007 setting (the title assigned as style heading 3 and the section number is generated by multi-level list)?
    Thanks,
    Jeffrey

    Steve, Samnol,
Thanks for your advice and sorry for the late reponse because I tried to re-install Acrobat 8 and 9 and see if anything changed.
The good news I got from this weekend is that the problem regarding the "Missing of section numbers in the Bookmark when I converted the Word 2007 to PDF" has been resolved after I update the patch published on 01 March 2009.  I will keep running Rev 9 on trail basis and work out the recommendation to the company.  I am glad that I can get rid of the old Office 2003 and Acrobat 7 for the time being.  It has been a heck for me to run dual Office system.
    Thanks again for the advise.

  • Converting Word 2007 Styles to PDF

I just upgraded to word 2007. I don't have the PDF Maker for word installed (where you see the Acrobat option on the toolbar in word), and not sure it will install with 2007. So the first question is: Does it? Second question. If you can install PDF Maker with Word 2007, How do you go about doing it? Reinstall Acrobat? (note: I have acrobat 8 professional) And finally the third question is: if PDF Maker can't be installed to work with Word 2007, how do you automatically convert word 2007 Styles into PDF bookmarks. I'd rather not have to recreate them all after creating the PDF.
    Thanks in advance.
    Rob

Aha! That was the missing piece. After the 8.1.2 update, I now see the Acrobat toolbar in word. All set! I was freaking out when I didn't see the toolbar, but did see the acrobat macro in word. Phew.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Problems retaining page size when converting MS WORD 2007 doc to PDF

I am having a problem converting Word documents that are not standard page size to a PDF. When I do the conversion, the PDF is resized to 8.5 x 11, even though the original WORD doc was 5.5 x 8.5
This happens even when I go into the Acrobat Preferences and change the default page size to 5.5 x 8.5.
The worst of it is, it does not happen with everyone who uses a particular computer here. It happens to some, but not to others.
Does anyone have any experience with this?
    Thanks.

It's happening the same way on several different computers here.
Everyone logs in with their own userid on each machine. We are all working with the same MS WORD documents. These documents are non-standard sizes -- 6 x 9, or 5.5 x 8.5.
Everyone uses the same version of Acrobat Professional, and selects "Convert to PDF from file".
For some people, the PDF is created from the Word doc, and the original page size is retained. This is what we want.
However, for others, the PDF is created as 8.5 x 11, no matter what the original size of the document was. No amount of fiddling with the default page size, in either Acrobat or Word, changes this.
It is driving me crazy, and I was hoping that at least one other person on the planet has come across this problem. Is this an Adobe or a Microsoft problem? Could it be a Windows registry setting?
    Advice is appreciated!

  • Problem convert word 2007 acrobat 8 graphics to pdf

Having difficulty converting certain graphics from Word on Windows 7 Professional PC to Adobe PDF.
The same problem exists on the same PC regardless of whether Word 2007 or Word 365 is the originating software. So it is not a problem with the version of Word being used as some blogs have suggested.
Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.4 is installed, and Adobe 8 Distiller is configured according to the settings required.
PDF is created by using Word: File > Print > Adobe PDF Maker

    OK.
Cracked it.  I hope this saves you some time.
The issues all seem to stem from Word 2007.
Things to get urls working seem to be as follows :
all links in word can't have a trailing /
    http://www.subliminal-power.co.uk/ - NO
    http://www.subliminal-power.co.uk - YES
When you add a url, each url must have a Screen Tip.  You should have this anyway if you're sharing your word doc. It is all for the visually impared and audio I believe.
You have to use tables and not word art for boxes.
    Happy Days
    A

  • Images lost in converting Word 2007 file to PDF

I have a Word 2007 document (docx), with inserted JPGs.  If the text wrapping of the images is set to anything but "in line with text", the images do not appear in the PDF file created from the docx.  I have tried many different combinations of Acrobat preferences (image compression on or off; standard vs. high quality print; different DPI settings; etc.).  This appears to be a new problem, as I have converted many Word docx's with images to PDFs in the past.  A document that I converted to PDF a year ago no longer converts properly!   I'm running Windows 7 Pro and using Acrobat Pro X.   Office 2007 has SP3 (and I suspect that's the problem).  Has anyone else had the problem, and, if so, found a fix?

    Hi, Bill,
I have the doc/docx converter, though I haven't tested if if gives any different result from letting Word 2003 simply open the docx.   I'm on travel now and can't test this until later.
The doc file looks perfect in Word 2007 on my Win 7 machine.
Printing to Adobe PDF gives the same problem - no images.
Re positioning with reflow:   I'm not sure exactly where you find options termed 'reflow,' but I tried 3 options in Compatibility and Layout (Word options --> Advance --> Compatibility options):
In the menu of Compatibility options: "Lay out this documents as if created in Microsoft Word 2003"
In the sub-menu Layout options: "Use Word 2003 indent rules for text next to wrapped objects"
In Layout options: I turned off the indent rules and chose "Use printer metrics to lay out document" (and I used this with "Create PDF" inside Word 2007 and with print to Adobe PDF)
In all 3 (or, really, 4) cases, the images were lost.  Please let me know if any of these options comprise the reflow options.  Please note also that I'm not trying to print the document, as I think you realize; I want to create email-able PDFs that have positioned images, as I have always been able to do in the past.
If there's not much more to tweak here, I may bit the bullet and do a system restore to pre-SP3 update on Office 2007.   Tedious, but no more tedious than all the things I've tried so far.
         Thanks,  Vince

  • Conversion of Word 2007 Docs to PDF

I am using Word 2007 & Acrobat 9 Pro.  I am attempting to convert a chinese document into a PDF file within Word 2007.  After conversion,  many of the chinese characters are missing and replaced with an empty box.  Why?  What can I do to correct this.  Printing to Adobe captures all of the chinese characters but does not capture the bottom border.  HELP!!!!

    Bill Thanks...
The issued turned out that doing formatting and inserting pictures in the Word 2007 document,  that the font changed from Sim Sun (Asian) to Times New Roman.  However, the screen did not look any different and I did not notice the change.  (Microsoft, please explain this phenomonem!!)Changing the font back to the Sim Sun that was already installed in Word 2007 solved the problem.

  • Hyperlinks missing after converting Word 03 docs to PDF using Acrobat Pro 9.

I'm having an issue when I convert a Word 2003 doc using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 to pdf that the hyperlinks are disappearing.  I've had success with this in the past but for some reason now the hyperlinks never carry over or show up in the pdf.  I also have a good amount of bookmarks making up a table of contents within my word doc that aren't making the conversion either.
I've spent a few hours thumbing through options in both the pdf printer and word as well as searching online with no luck.
    Kind regards,
    Tim

Alright, I've got link creation process working again.
However, now I have another technical issue with how the links are being handled.
My work has an Intranet site that these Polices and Procedures are being accessed from (http://is-intranet/policiesandprocedures/).  For some reason when you open one of these forms on our Intranet site and click one of the embedded links (that are linking to another one of the Policy and Procedure PDFs) it's adding extra text to the path. i.e. open 2.01 Employee Handbook when I click a link embedded in that form to http://is-intranet/policiesandprocedures/3.01 Technology Usage Policy it's adding an extra is-intranet to the beginning of the path http://is-intranet/is-intranet/policiesandprocedures/3.01 Technology Usage Policy causing it to not open.
I cannot seem to prevent this from happening.  Now, if I go through the form and look at the link it's correct and if re-link it to the other form everything works fine and the path of the link in the PDF doesn't change.  But now the link works correctly when opening the forms from our Intranet Site.
    It's a very confusing issue.

  • Convert Word 2007 Form to PDF Form not creating dropdown list fields

I created a new word document with all my text fields with lines and 5 dropdown list fields with all their values.  Works great in Word 2007.  When I convert it to a pdf form (Acrobat Pro X) none of the dropdown list fields get created.  The text fields do, but no drop downs.  If I have to create them all manually in Acrobat, what's the point of doing all the work in Word?

The Word conversion to PDF and Forms Wizard do not detect and do not know how to complete a drop down box. I do not even create the form fields in Word as there is no transfer to the PDF. I also find the Wizard lacking in proper naming and grouping. It is just easier and more efficient to add the fields manually or with JavaScript tools.
The only product that can do this is apache OpenOffice when an author creates the from body and form fields in the Writer application and then exports to a PDF.

  • Converting Word 2007 docs into Adobe Reader

Anyone having issues converting Word figures into Adobe Reader 9? Once converted into Adobe Reader the object disappears.  All other pictures/figures appear with no problem.

I will assume that you are using the Print function of Word to produce PDFs of Word files. Even then, I fail to understand what do you mean by "converting Word figures" that "disappear" after conversion, while "all other pictures/figures appear with no problem". Are you trying to say that, when convereting to PDFs one (or more) Word documents containing more than one image, one or more of these are not to be found in the PDF file? If so, I would suspect a problem with that/those image(s).
