Problem deleting mail on iPad 2

I can't delete mail on the iPad 2; trash won't accept mail I want to delete. 'Anybody got some advice on this?

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app via the taskbar : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
And another option is to try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then select the account on the right-hand side of that screen, select Account, then Advanced, Deleted Mailbox, and under On The Server tap the 'Trash' folder so that it gets a tick against it - then come out of that series of popups by tapping on the relevant buttons at the top of them and then see if you can delete emails.

  • Problems deleting mail

Been using Mail for a LONG time. Currently have version 4.5. This week I started having problems deleting some messages (not all) using the delete button at the top of the Mail menu. I found I can delete using my right mouse button. Any ideas why I'm having this issue? Thanks ahead of time!

I am suddenly having the same issue in mac mail. Giving me an error message "email name cannot be moved to the mailbox null" "Destination mailbox null does not allow messages to be moved to it" I have no idea what mailbox "null" is. This just started happening a day ago... Any suggestions?

  • Problems deleting mail from MAC

For the past few weeks (not everyday) I have had trouble deleting mail.
    The message is"
Message could not be moved to mailbox "trash iCloud"
The IMAP command "UID Copy" failed for the mailbox "inbox" with server error:  Mailbox is busy
I have also had trouble just moving mail from the inbox folder to other folders on my Mac.
At first I though it might be a cloud problem, but it has been going on too long!
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

  • Deleting mail on iPad

On my iPad Air, there are some 9000 old email messages, most in one account.  Is there an efficient way I can delete all of them that were sent before a specified date? Even going screen by screen to select the most recent and then getting down to the earliest do do a Shift-Click is something that will take a long time.  On Apple Mail, there is a search capability that can be used for a date range, but on iPad???

  • TS3899 iOS 6 problems sending mail on iPad

I just upgraded to iOS 6 on my iPad and can no longer seem to send mail from my gmail accounts or yahoo accounts.  Any solution to this?  It is frustrating!

As far as I know, never ever email problems come from OS. Being that OS Windows, Linux or OS X, or even iOS.
But what do I know? As far as I know if something gets you a message about SMTP server, it has to do with settings and/or yahoo/gmail server. But I may be wrong. As far as I know, the easiest way to establish if iPad has a problem is - to add another mail account and see if that works. If that does, you need to look at your account settings/security. Or your connection/network.

  • Problems deleting mail from apple mail under mountain lion

I'm a little baffled by the way that the DELETE function works on Mail in Mountain Lion. When I delete a mail from "All Inboxes" it appears to remain in the individual inbox. I have GMAIL and Mac.com mail being gathered into apple mail. I should note that I have GMAIL pulling apple mail into GMAIL, but it's supposed to delete it from Mac.com once the mail is pulled into GMAIL.
    Any ideas?

  • Problem deleting mail account

I set up a mail account to view my Microsoft exchange work mail from home. I had been using webmail for my work mail. Then I decided I preferred to keep the work mail separate, so I went into Mail preferences and deleted the Microsoft work account. But whenever I start Mail, it asks to connect to the work server, even though I deleted that account. How can I fix this? Thanks.

Connection Doctor only references my pop account. But help says that removing Exchange 2007 does not permanently delete the account; because the account's mailbox and messages remain on the server. So maybe I have to contact my provider and have him remove the account from the server - unless you know how I can do that from here. The help file reads as follows:
"Removing an Exchange 2007 or Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) account doesn’t permanently delete the account’s mailboxes and messages because they are stored on the mail server. To retrieve the account’s mailboxes and messages from the server, set up the account again."

  • Deleted mail does not go to trash file and returns to inbox

I'm running OS 10.6.2 and Mail 4.2. When I delete mail on my MacBook PRO, the message goes away, but doesn't go into my trash file. When I refresh mail, the deleted messages come back. I'm using exchange server, and I have no problems deleting mail from my iPhone or web mail. In addition, I have other mail accounts that allow me to delete mail without any other issues. I've rebuilt my mail database (mailbx - rebuild), and even deleted the mail account and reloaded it from exchange. HELP!

In that case, if the account in question is an admin account, you would just tack "sudo" on at the beginning:
    sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash
If the affected account is not an admin account, you need to log in to an admin account and do this:
    sudo rm -rf /Users/theusername/.Trash
...where "theusername" should be the name of the user folder with the broken trash.

  • Mac mail not syncing deleted messages with iPad email?

I'm very frustrated with the mail sync between my MacBook and my iPad. My Microsoft Exchange (@student.uml.edu) email for school will NOT sync between my Mac and my iPad.
When I delete mail from from Mac mail, it does not delete on my iPad. This has led me to have 3 read emails in my inbox on my MacBook and 45 emails on my iPad. I can't imagine having to keep track of deleting emails from my laptop then again on my iPad thats just silly.
Am I doing something wrong here? Help!

I have the same problem in the opposite direction - I can delete things on my iPad but they don't delete on my MacBook and Mail won't let me delete them. My problem is also with an educational Exchange account. Other accounts sync without problems.

  • How to delete all mail in IPAD 1 and keep mail untouched in Gmail server.

How can I delete IPAD1 mail while keeping original mail at the server ? The problem is that when removing mail from my GMail account on my IPad1 the original is also removed from the Server. I want to free thousands of mails listed on my IPad Google account saturating and congesting my tablet but without deleting the original emails at the server. Sorry to repeat. But I want my problem be clearly stated. However I would like to receive a copy of the mail I get in the server, so that I can trash everyday's copies without touching my Gmail account at the server.  Maybe I have been redundant, please excuse me.  Cheers !!!  DavidSpartacco

It has been some time since I used POP3 on my iPad, it is just not a very good way to manage email between multiple devices. There is no check mark to simply change the Gmail account from IMAP to POP on the iPad. You will have to delete the account from the iPad removing all the email already stored on it. Once you have changed the server settings at Gmail you have to re-create the account on the iPad. Now that it is POP3 you should have a setting in the iPads settings to not delete the emails from the server when deleting them from the iPad. Once the new account is created on the iPad all the email on the server will download again and have to be deleted from the iPad. You will have to reset other devices as well, although Gmail may be able to handle both settings at the same time but they may conflict.
For your use, you may simply want to just use Gmail through Safari where you will be viewing your email directly from the server through the web browser. No messages are stored on your iPad, they are all managed on the server through your web browser. There is also a Gmail app available which may also leave all the messages on the server although I have not experience with the app.
When I had an email account set to POP3 I had the iPhone and iPad set to not delete messages from the server when I deleted them from the device. I had my home computer set to remove them from the server when they were deleted from there. It does work although each device is independent, reading a message on 1 device would not mark it as read on the other device. I ended up having to administer the email on 3 different devices even though they were the same account.
