Problem deleting photos in Aperture 2

I'm having a problem deleting any photos from Aperture 2.1.4 on a 2008 MacBook running OS X 10.6.8. I have restarted, reinstalled Aperture, repaired permissions and I am at a loss as to why I cannot delete any photos. I was able to just fine until recent.

Make sure you've selected a photo, a yellow highligh border around the photo, in the album before you use the Delete key.  If you just hit the album icon to bring up the  photos and use the Delete key without a photo definitely selected you will delete the album. But in that case you should get this wanring window at the top of the iPhoto window:
So if you're sure that you have selected a photo then the library is misbehaving and  the following might help: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
     User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
     User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • ITunes - Problem recognising photos from Aperture 3

I'm having issues with iTunes recognising my photos from Aperture 3.
For example, in my default Aperture library, in one of my projects it has about 2000 photos but when i went to the iTunes photo tab for my devices (iPhones, AppleTV or iPad) and select that particular project, it indicates that there are only 229 photos.
I've tried to fix this issue by creating a new library and copying photos from my default to the new library and same issue is still there. I've tried to fix it by deleting all the ipod photo cache within Aperture 3 package content.
Nothing worked. This problem only started about 3 months ago. Before, iTunes would recognise all 2000 photos within the project and sync to my devices all the photos. Now iTunes only sync across 229 photos.
For each device, whether it is my AppleTV, my iPhone or iPad it all says 229 photos.
My AppleTV has about 40 GB spare and my iPad has more then 15 GB spare and iTunes still reports 229 Photos for that project.
    Could someone please help me!?
    Thanks in advance

Aperture creates preview images that contain all the adjustments you've made to the master image. These previews are what is shared with other apps such as iLife or if you drag and drop an image out of Aperture to another app or the Finder.
The size of the previews is controlled in Aperture Preferences. Open Aperture Preferences and click on the Previews icon at the top. In the bottom of this dialog there is a popup menu titled "Photo Preview". This is the setting that controls the size of the image Aperture shares with iPhoto. Change this setting to the size you want.
But wait, you're not done yet. Changing this setting does nothing until a new preview is created in Aperture. If you right click an image in Aperture there is a menu item near the bottom named "Update Preview". But what you really need is "Generate Preview". Right click the image and then hold down the option key and you'll see "Update Preview" change to "Generate Preview". Choose "Generate Preview" and a new preview will be created using the new size setting you made in Preferences. You need to do this for each and every image you wish to share at the larger size. You can select multiple images before selecting the "Generate Preview" command to speed things up.
Now when you share an image from Aperture to iPhoto the new larger file will be used. The advantage of smaller previews is your Aperture library will also be smaller but the trade off is what you get in other apps that are using your images.

  • Problem Importing Photos from Aperture 3 into iPhoto '11

I store my photos in Aperture 3, but import them into iPhoto to create calendars, cards, etc. I usually work with RAW or high resolution JPG images in Aperture. However, when I import these into the new iPhoto '11, it automatically converts my RAW images into very low resolution images (e.g., 100-200k instead of at least 1-2MB). I cannot seem to find an option to change this. This was not a problem with the old iPhoto. To import, I start in iPhoto, then click "Show Aperture Library", then drag my photos/folder. I would like to have an option to import images as RAW files, or just high res JPGs.
I know I can export my Aperture images to the desktop, then import them into iPhoto for a temporary fix, but that is such as hassle, especially since iPhoto and Aperture are supposed to work well together. Thanks for any suggestions!

  • Problems deleting photos

Has anyone had the same problem I have, deleting photos downloaded to my iPad? I mark them and then press the delete icon and nothing happens.....

No problem for me. Pressing the trash icon brings up the Delete option key. Pressing that then immediately deletes the picture. You can't delete photos in the Photo Library from the iPad. You can only do that from a desktop running iTunes.

  • Problems deleting photos in i9

while editing and deleting photos in the library, I found that I could not delete any more photos. the photos stayed in the library but also were in trash. After numerous tries, they would not delete. In previous deletes, one time there were NO photos in Trash, when i know i had just sent photos INTO trash. Now i have tried to export some photos and iphoto froze on me.
any suggestions from the experts...a corrupt library. How can it have gotten corrupt when I have never done anything with it except for upgrades (but haven't had any problems) for since iPhoto9

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

  • N97 - problems deleting photos

I cannot delete photos from my n97, everytime i try to delete any photos stored I get the message "General system error" . I need to delete 127 photos and they seem to be just stuck there.  The phone will not even let me sync them to my PC.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like photos app database is corrupted. You've deleted the files, but they're still in phone's indexes/thumbnails cache. If you remove the database it'll rebuild itself.
Connect to PC in mass storage mode, check show hidden files in windows. Open phone's mass storage drive, then open Private folder. Open 10281e17and rename or delete [102830AB]thumbnail_v2. Use safely disconnect hardware in taskbar before disconnecting. Open photos app and it'll search for pics, hopefully the deleted ones will be gone.
If that doesn't help then repeat the above, and also open Images folder and rename or delete  _PAlbTN content, then check photos app again.
Final solution is to format mass memory. The thing to note here is that all images will appear in Downloads folder once restored, only pics taken with camera after the format will appear in Captured. First uninstall apps from E:, this is just a precaution as some apps also store data on C: and this will help prevent any potential problems later such as duplicated entries. Use mass storage method to back up user files (pics, music, etc) to PC. Then format mass memory from file manager options. Restore data and reinstall apps.
Formatting mass memory can take some time depending on the amount of data you need to back up then restore, so it's worth trying deleting the Private/Images folder files first.

  • Problem deleting photos

I can not delete photos from my pictures. I have tried several times. With tapping the picture and then hitting the delete button, but nothing happens. Does anyone have an idea. Thank you

Are you tryng to delete from Photostream?  That's not possible.  You should be able to delete from events or total photos imported.  When things don't work as expected try a hard reset.

  • Problems deleting photos from iPhoto

I had about 9000 photos in the trash folder when I went to delete the trash. It was taking several minutes to delete them and I thought that maybe iPhoto had crashed. I used force quit to quit iPhoto and I think this was a mistake. Now, the photos I deleted are not showing up in iPhoto however I believe they are still taking up space in my hard drive. I use the WhatSize application and according to that app the photos I wanted to delete are still taking up space on my hard drive. How do I fix this problem and get that space back?

  • Problem syncing photo from Aperture

I have a picture in my Aperture library (JPEG image) that displays OK in Aperture but when I sync the album to my iPhone, it appears as a black square. I have removed the entire album when syncing in iTunes, disconnected the phone, reconnected the phone to iTunes and ticked the box to add the album back to the phone. Still, the image in question is a black square.
I have also removed the photo from the Aperture album, quit Aperture, added the image back to the album and re-synced the phone but it still won't display properly.
    Any ideas?

This is the same problem I am having. And it was a problem with 3.0.1 also.
As FM said "I can not mark 'Selected Folders' in iTunes. It appears Sync phots from the folder that I want, but 'All folders' is still marked."
There appears to be no way to change from "all folders" to "selected folders". All relevant buttons are grayed out.
I would love to attach a screenshot to clarify …

  • Problem deleting photos using ios7 on ipad 2

I updated my iPad 2 with no problems. I then went to the apple photo app, selected a photo which correctly put a checkmark on it, but the trash can icon stayed greyed out, making it impossible to delete that photo. selecting multiple photos results in the same problem. Please log this as a bug and fix.

    Ok, more details.
    1. When in the iOS 7 Photo app you tap Photo button in the bottom toolbar.
    2. Then you tap Select in the top right Navbar
    3. Then find a photo which is NOT in the Photo-stream and NOT in the Camera Roll. I have a bunch of these for some reason after updating to iOS 7. These photos will get a checkmark, but will not turn the trash can blue.
    4. You can then select a photo that IS IN Photo-stream. It will also get a checkmark and the counter will display (2), and the trash can will turn Blue.
    5. You can then tap the blue trash can. The Photo-stream selected photo gets deleted BUT the photo the selected photo that is NOT in Photo-stream and NOT in camera roll IS Still There!
I think the issue is that these photos that show under Photo but don't appear in the Camera Roll or Photo-Stream are "Orphans". So the real issue is how do I "adopt" them and get them into either the Camera Roll or zphto-strem? Still ths appears to be a bug that needs an Ape fix.

  • Deleting photos in Aperture -

Ok. I have just switched from iPhoto to Aperture. I cannot figure out how to simply delete a photo that I don't want. It is a sucky photo, and I will never edit it, etc... - it just needs to go away. Forever. In iPhoto, as I scrolled through my imported pictures, I could hit the delete key as I went along, and the photos would in fact be deleted (or put into the trash folder which I would later empty). In Aperture, as I scroll through my imported photos, I can't figure out how to delete the sucky ones without lots of keystrokes. Advice???
And what are Libraries vs. Projects? I used to organize my photos in iPhoto by using the folders on the left side of the page.

How do you delete ONLY a version and not a Master? I was just in Aperture and went to a project and there was a Master [original version sort of] there and then Version 2 of the same image, worked a bit on and then a 3rd version with more tweaking. So far so good.
I go to the File menu and go down and there are two choices: Delete Version and Delete Master and all Versions. I know or think that the latter means that if I delete the Master then I'll delete it and every other representation of it...so that Delete Version should allow me to only delete version 3 of the 3 photos version 1=Master, Version 2 and the bad Version 3]...but when I deleted Version 3 it ended up deleting all three of the images not just the selected version.
Why is that? I want to be able to delete one image not all images of one thing= and the fact there are two types of Delete images available in the File menu indicates one is to nuke them all and the other should be to nuke only one but each time it nukes them all.
I did have a backup plus I have Time Machine but it's really irritating not to understand this.

  • Problem deleting photos and cannot shut down or log out

I have managed to put a whole lot of photos on my desk top which I want to transfer to the trash can (over 5000). When I moved them to trash an error message "Item ....jpg is used by Mac OSX and cannot be opened" and you have to press OK. This is happening for every photo. It won't let me shut down or log out. I don't want to have to press OK 5000 times. Can anyone help?

Dr Bettina, I had similar problems with Mavericks. I installed it on a Mini and a 13" MacBook Pro. I can't speak to your disdplay issues, but I can confirm the inability to logout, shut down, or restarft without a forced, power button shut down. I can also report frequent System Prefs freezes and finder issues, like folder contents taking half a minuite or more to render, or not appearing at all. And while a few Adobe CC apps actually ran faster, InDesign ran like molasses uphill in Decemner.
I tried uninstalling or disabling numerous 3rd party apps and pref panes. I unplugged everything but the keyboard, ran DiskWarrier, repaired permissions, did fsck -f, trashed various preference files, reinstalled the OS... You name it, and I tried it — short of a potion using eye of newt.
After two days of totally hosed productivity, I restored OS 10.8.5 on the Mini so I could actually get some work done. However, I've decided to leave Mavericks on the MBP as a sort of crash dummy, and will install and thoroughly test all updates until stability has been achieved. Then — and only then — will I upgrade the Mini to Mavericks, even if it means waiting 'til a .2 or even .3 update.
    Good luck to you...
