Problem disk quota
Hi, I've got a OSXserver3.9 running
Gave users a disk quota of 20Gb but still there able to use more diskspace, what did I do wrong??
Hi,
FRSM is not tamerping with folder permissions. You need to configure the nfts folder permissions according to your requirements.

I get a Group Policy Disk Quota failure at every system start
This is very long, my apologies
I asked this question about a month ago and then had some medical problems so I'm starting over again.
Whenever I start my system I get a message on the screen that the system is trying to run Group Policy for Disk Quotas. To my knowledge I've never set a disk quota policy and I can't find any indication that one is currently set. I freely admit
that I could be responsible for this. I might have done something in the early days of the system because it wasn't happening for the first month or two.
This time I did more reading and found a procedure on TechNet at:
"http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc749336(WS.10).aspx" which led me step by step through the procedure, although I still can't make sense of the results.
So far I've verified that there are no policies set and that all the hard drives (3) have the Disk Quota bit 'disabled'. I did this as 'Administrator'.
The results from the TechNet procedure turned out to be quite long but I'm listing it here in hope that someone in the community will be familiar with this problem and be able to use the information to figure out the problem.
Here are the results:
From: TechNet Group Policy Testing
1 - Troubleshooting using the Group Policy operational log
a - Determine the instance of Group Policy processing
(Before you view the Group Policy operational log, you must first determine
the instance of Group Policy processing that failed.)
My ActivityID from the Group Policy operational log = C87E5BC2-FD21-4794-B678-787AB587D8D5
2 - Create a custom view, via a query, of the Group Policy instance
My resultant query:
<QueryList><Query Id="0" Path="Application"><Select Path="Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy/Operational">*[System/Correlation/@ActivityID='{C87E5BC2-FD21-4794-B678-787AB587D8D5}']</Select></Query></QueryList>
3 - Results of running the query from step 2 are listed below, in chronological order, including the complete 'detail' sections from each event.

10.4 server disk quota not showing proper available space
i have a problem with 10.4 server which is installed on a powermac G5 2.5 Ghz System.
I have created users on the internal volume and have enabled disk quota on it.. i have given 30 gb for each users and totally i have created 3 users..
and when i access these users from the network, first time it shows the total volume availabe (my Hdd is 250 Gb) and when i restart the machine am getting only 2 gb as available volume space through the network..
I have tried updating to 10.4.5, still problem persist
can anyone help me in this

Hey Folks,
I've got a 10.5 server with an attached RAID volume that I'd like to apply user and group quotas to. I can only find quota configuration options for the user's home folder, but I'd prefer to not enable home folders on the system if possible.
I've got a single share on the RAID volume called "Guests", and have created a group called "serverguests" who are allowed to mount and read/write the "Guests" share via AFP or SMB protocols. I cannot figure out how to limit certain members of the "serverguests" group, or the entire group itself, in terms of a disk quota.
I've tried using "edquota", but that command doesnt do anything. At first it created the ".quota.users" and similar files (command was: sudo "edquota -g serverguests"...as described in the server documentation and the command man page) but it didnt open them for editing. I manually removed the quota files from the root of the RAID drive, and now the "edquota" command will not create new files. It doesnt give any errors...it seems to do nothing. Using "quotacheck" the system reports that no users or groups on the system have any quota restrictions.
How do I get OS X 10.5 server, updated with all the latest updates (including stuff like iTunes and Safari) to have quotas for users? At the very most I could create guest users' home folders in the "Guests" share and invoke the home folder quota, but I'd much prefer to be able to apply quotas to any share I'd like.
Thanks a bunch.I am having a similar problem..
I am attempting to create quotas on a file server connected to a different OD master server for users in the OD directory and not having success. Doing "edquota -u <ldapuser>" I do get the vi edquota editor and I can successfully edit quotas for an ldap user that appear to be saved somewhere (when i exit and then do it again my edits are still there, so I assume it is editing the .quota.user file) but doing "repquota -a" the user does not show up in the list or in the list under the quota tab in Server Admin -> File Sharing; Only all of the local users show up (_spotlight, _lp, daemon, etc). I can't use network home folders because the clients are using local home folders.
In summary, I want to create a single share on a dedicated leopard file server that network users whose accounts are in a separate OD master can access and still have disk quotas enforced on these users... does anyone know if leopard supports this? I can't seem to find anything on the web other than this excellent tutorial http://www.secure-computing.net/wiki/index.php/HFS%2BDiskQuotas which, while good, doesn't help me. -
I have seen the threads on this topic from 2006, but none of the fixes mentioned there seem to solve this problem. I'm working with iWeb 1.1.2, had published a number of pages previously to mac.com without problem, but now get a "failure reading disk quota" every time I try to publish a page. Can anyone suggest a fix? Thanks.
SingKevin,
Welcome to the iWeb discussions.
Try this:
Navigate to your Domain file, found here:
Home folder Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain
Control-click on the Domain file, and choose "Show Package Contents".
A new window titled Domain will appear, showing the contents of the package. Here you will see one file (or possibly two files) named "assets.[membername].groups.[groupname].plist" or "assets.[membername].plist" where [membername] and [groupname] correspond to your .Mac member name and .Mac Group name.
If you have either or both of these files, drag them to the Trash. Then close the Domain window. Open iWeb and try publishing again.

My kids love my MacBook Pro as much as I do. The problem is that they are filling up my disk too fast! How can I impose disk quotas for their accounts on Leopard? - Mark
I haven't tested this in Leopard, but disk quotas, as described in the link below, did work to some extent in 10.3 and 10.4 on OS X client.
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20030808130810285
As one of the comments indicates, the limitation was that only the "hard" limit was functional and the user would basically run out of space without warning. But like I said, I haven't tried in Leopard... -

Acctually i found the problem as the disk quota is not allocating space more than 2 Gb for all users.
can anyone help me in thisYes I've noticed this bug too. I think its a bug in Workgroup Manager or the command line programs WGM calls. If you use the edquota command to set disk quotas you can set them to what every you like.

WGM Sharing "Enable disk quotas on this volume" greyed out
I plan on enabling disk quotas on my server and noticed that the checkbox for enabling quotas is greyed out. How do I enable it?
It's a basic server that does my mail, afp, and website.I am not terribly familiar with WGM and Server, but I noticed that we could not "enable disk quotas" on a share-point, but could on an actual drive, the volume (click the ALL tab up top). We have 3 Drives, System, Data, an backup, with multiple share-points on the drives..
We have 10.4.2 Server
Since there is no need for me to enable it, I did not follow through with it to see where it led me...
Just my $.02, and it could be worthless, anyway.

About disk quota in win2008r2 server(AD)
Hi,everyone:
I have a question for help. In win2008r2 domain server, I want to set disk quota on each domain users.
In default, when a user created, it belongs to Domain Users group, and disk quota applied. But if I add the user into Domain Admins group, disk quota does not apply, so is a user as administrator role is whom disk
quota does not apply in AD?
Also I have tested in local computer, administrator account(not "Administrator"), such as "admin", could
be applied also. It seems that all users except Administrator account could be set disk quota limit. Why Domain Admins not? Thanks a lot.Hi,
What is the meaning about “disk quota does not apply”? Do you mean that disk quota cannot apply to users who member of administrators group? I have done a test, add a user to domain admin group, then disk quota can still apply to the user.
In additional, quota limits are not applied to the Administrators local group.

How to enable disk quotas in Lion Server (OS X 10.7.5)?
Hello, all. I am having an impossible time trying to set disk quotas in Lion Sever (OS X 10.7.5) and have searched these (and many other) forums to no avail. Basically, as my network will have mixed PC and Mac users I have set the primary home share folder to SMB. I understand that quotas should be enabled without a hitch under AFP, but this will not suffice for PC clients. I have set quotas in WGM but when I check from a remote connection it shows folder capactiy as the volume's total capacity where the home folder resides.
As the latest version of Server Admin does not have a file share section, how can I do this? I understand it may be possible from the terminal, but having little experience with terminal I would prefer not set it myself (man quotaon was less than helpful).
Thank you in advance for any help. Not 100% sure, but i think "password change" feature requires Open Directory and SSL encryption for Web.
Has you enabled OD?
Did you try at least a self-signed SSL certificate for Web? -
Disk Quota reporting incorrectly
I have a user with a 500Mb disk quota who is currently only using 54Mb of this space. She is using the Messenger Express client and keeps getting a message saying she is over her quota when she clearly isn't. She has been over quota previously but isn't anymore.
Any ideas?1. How are you determining quota in use?
I have used the Messenger Express web client - scroll to the bottom of the page and read the bottom line
13 Messages (1 unread) - 54MB (500MB limit) - 536 total messages (no limit)
I have also used the mboxutil -u <username> comand and can see the same information there
diskquota size(K) %use msgquota msgs %use user
512000 54074 10% no quota 536 username
2. How have you set the quota? In LDAP?
Using the iPlanet console in LDAP I have populated the mailquota attribute with the value 524287778
3. Have you run any reconstructs recently?
The only reconstruct command I have used is
reconstruct -o
to find orphaned accounts
4. Does the user have a different quota from the majority of your users?
Yes, most of our users have a 90Mb mailbox disk quota, but there are several other users with a 500Mb quota or greater
5. Exactly what version of Messaging Server do you have?
imsimta version reports

Setting disk quota on Mac server for Active Directory users
I'm having trouble setting disk quotas for Active Directory users with home folders on our Mac server.
I've enabled disk quotas on the disk I'm putting home folders on, and I can set disk quotas for local users on the server just fine. But it doesn't seem to work for Active Directory users. I've tried setting disk quotas via Workgroup Manager and via the command line using edquota. But when I use the repquota command there is no quota entry for the AD user. I've run quotacheck and that didn't help either.
I also understand there's a setquota command but there's no man page on how that works.
Has anyone got disk quota for AD users working.
Better still has someone got a shell or perl script for setting quotas they could post.
Thanks
- Cameronsorry.. I am soooooo stupid... I have to activate "File Sharing" as well.. for the user everything was already pre-activated, not for the AD users, I just saw the Time Machine checkbox grayed out ...

Unable to enable disk quotas in workgroup manager, X.4.8 server
I am trying to enable disk quotas in workgroup manager for our open directory users with mobile accounts.
I select "sharing" ---> all ---> drive that home directories are stored on ---> select "Enable disk quotas on this volume."
I am able to click the tab but when I attempt to save it gives me "unable to save changes." How can I save the changes? Do I have to use the CLI for this?
This is similar to this previous unsolved question on the boards: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2495400
I'm not trying to make any other changes when I'm saving this, and am authenticated as the directory admin. Any help is a big help!Nevermind, I found the answer in the archives after much searching. Went in via CLI and deleted the files below...voila! Disk quota goodness ensues and all is well.

Hi Sun!
When I create a domain in Delegated Administrator, I set quota of this domain by use Disk Quota Domain parameter. Admin of this domain can log in to Delegated Administrator by user admin and create new user, delete user or reset password user ....
I have some question:
1. How admin of this domain know quota of this domain in real time ? This mean, quota of this domain is 10MB and total of mail box of all user is using 9MB, how to admin know domain is using 9MB ?
2. When admin create a new user in Delegated Administrator, admin can set disk quota for this user by Disk Space Quota parameter in step 3.1 but must choose service package in step 3, this service package is assigned by provider. In service package have Mail Quota parameter, I think it is the same with Disk Space Quota. This mean, when admin create user, if Disk Space Quota parameter in step 3.1 is not set, quota of user is Mail Quota parameter in service package and if Disk Space Quota parameter in step 3.1 is set, quota of user is Disk Space Quota, not use Mail Quota in service package. Right ?
Thanks!

Right ?Setting the "Disk Space Quota" value will over-ride the service-package default value for a given user.
