Problem = Disks arent available in Storage Pools

Hello,
I have two windows server 2012 with 3 disks on each (1 basic and 2 dynamic). One of them (dynamic) is unallocated. When I want to create storage pool I dont see the disks in PHYSICAL DISKS section is Storage Pools. All of disks has more than 4GB space.
I read here but wasnt useful:

Hi,
Dynamic disks are not appropriate to be added to a storage pool. They cannot be be listed in Primordial area.

  • FC disk not available after storage repository creation failure

    Hi,
    A storage repo creation job failed because of some network problems. After I fixed up the network problem, I can create another storage repo with another FC disk. When I try creating the failed storage repo again, the FC disk is no longer available for selection. Could the FC disk be left in a "half cooked" state? How can I clear the state and make it available again?
    The log of the failed job seems to suggest rollback was completed.

    Deleting the LUN sounds like a good clean way but unfortunately it did not work. After I recreated the LUN from the storage array, OVM is left with a "phantom" LUN which I cannot delete. Secondly I now get a OCFS2 lock which I don't know how to clear.

  • ISCSI disk not available for storage

    I am trying to create a lab to demonstrate a simple clustering environment. Best practices is not an issue here. 
    I have a lone Domain Controller that is also running Hyper-V. I am hosting 2 VMs, I call Cluster1 and Cluster2. The VMs share the NIC with the DC, and are members of the domain. 
    After turning on the iSCSI initiator service on both VMs, I created an iSCSI target on the DC. When I created the target, the DC saw both of the iSCSI initiators on the VMs, and created the target without incident. The target now points to a .vhdx file on
    the DC. The disk initialized without incident on both VMs.
    I was able to add the disk and create a CSV without incident in Failover Cluster Manager. It shows up as online and healthy. When I look at the iSCSI target on the DC, it shows up at health and connected. I ran validation against the cluster, and the storage
    comes up perfect, no warnings. 
    When I try and add the file sever role (File Server for general use) to the clustered VMs, no storage is available to add the the role. 
    The only indication that anything is wrong is that on Cluster2, the disk is shown to be offline. If I try and bring it online, I get the following error:
    “The specified disk or volume is managed by the Microsoft Failover Clustering component. The disk must be in cluster maintenance mode and the cluster resource status must be online to perform this operation”
    I have tried everything mentioned in the error message, to no avail. In cluster manager, it shows that Cluster1 is the owner of the resource.
    Why isn’t this working? I know a .vhdx file has to be marked at shared if two machines are going to access it, but I don’t see how I can do that, or perhaps its already shared?
    More to the point, where could I place a .vhdx file on the DC one so that I could share it between the two VMs? 
    I have 2 more servers at my disposal, and I could hypothetically go out and buy cheap a NAS that supports iSCSI, but thats missing the point. I want to run it all off one box so its portable and easy to demonstrate.

  • DPM 2010; migrated DPM protection group to new storage pool ; data on source disk is not expiring

    I am running DPM 2010 with 4 storage pool disks. 2 are iSCSI; 1 is SAS; the fourth, also iSCSI, was recently deployed to replace the SAS storage pool disk.
    (1) iSCSI
    (2) iSCSI
    (3) SAS - Source
    (4) iSCSI - Destination
    Initially we tried to migrate the entire data source (3) to the new iSCSI storage pool disk destination (4). This failed
    Set-ProtectionGroup: The allocation of disk space for storage pool volume failed because there is not enough unallocated disk space in the storage pool (ID: 358). (Sorry, I was not allowed to attach an image).
    We believe the source disk previously created dynamic links to the long-term retention device (tape) which resulted in exceeding the available space on the new destination iSCSI storage pool disk. The source storage pool disk was totaling ~2.5TB, but needed
    ~9TB for the destination.
    Instead I've tried to migrate the DPM protection group. The migration was successful. I followed the procedure outlined here
    "Microsoft DPM 2012 Sp1 – How To Migrate Data Source using MigrateDatasourceDataFromDPM by ICTtechie" (Sorry, I was not allowed to include a link).
    My understanding / expectation was that the data on the source disk would expire within 5 days (as this is our retention time set for disk replication); instead data started to expire from the other 2 iSCSI (1), (2) storage pool disks.
    What am I missing here?

    includes PowerShell 3.0, was made available Dec. 11 on Windows Update as an

  • How to move a virtual disk's physical allocation within a Storage Pool

    I have a pool of 3x500GB where one the physical drives is having intermittent issues. Currently, there is only one parity Virtual Disk of 300GB Fixed across 3 columns. I want to replace the bad drive with a good one. The old way (pre-2012) was replace the
    disk, repair the RAID 5, resync and done. These basic steps are not working.
    So far I have added a 4th 500GB drive to the pool. After searching and failing to find a way to move the data non-destructively, I decided to just pull the data cable on the disk I wanted to replace. After refresh/rescan, the disconnected drive shows "lost
    communication" and the virtual disk (after trying to repair) shows "unknown" (but the volume on that disk is accessible in Explorer).  When I try to remove the physical disk in Server Manager, I get "The selected physical disk cannot
    be removed". Reading the error message, I see that the replacement disk cannot contain any part of a virtual disk. The replacement disk that I just added appears to have some space allocated (possibly because I have tried this same procedure a couple
    of times already?). When I look at the parity disk properties/health, it shows all four physical disks under "physical disks in use".
    I have deleted and recreated a lot of storage pools lately while trying to understand how they work but I would like to avoid that this time. The data on the virtual disk in question is highly deduplicated and it took quite a while to get it that way. Since
    I can't find a way to copy/mirror the disk while keeping it fully deduplicated, I would need 3x the space to copy it all off, or a lot of time to load up and deduplicate a new virtual disk.
    I have several questions:
    1. How can a 3 column parity disk use parts of four physical disks? And can that be fixed without recreating the virtual disk?
    2. When creating a virtual disk (for example a 3 column disk in a pool that has four or more physical drives), is there a way to specify which physical disks to use?
    3. I understand that after a physical disk failure, the recovery process will move a virtual disk's allocation to a replacement disk, but can a virtual disk's allocation be moved manually among physical disks within the same storage pool
    using a PS script?
    4. Can a deduplicated virtual disk be moved/mirrored/backed up without expanding the data?
    Any help is appreciated.

    Im still fighting with storage pools and need more tests to be done and have a lot of questions my self but ther goes what I understood so far.

  • Migrating Protection group to new storage pool

    Hello all running DPM 2012. The environment was setup prior to my arrival and it was setup with 10 1.5TB storage pools.  I heard the thinking was this was the recommended size for storage pools.  Problem is now we are/have run out of disk space
    on those storage pools and jobs are failing with "DPM does not have sufficient storage space available on the recovery point volume to create new recovery points (ID 214)"
    I have created new 4 new storage pools of 10TB each and I want to know how I can migrate the protection group data to the new storage pools and have the protection group use the new storage pool moving forward.  I want to empty the smaller storage pools
    so I can kill them off and create larger storage pools.
    Unfortunately the GUI does not allow me to point to specific storage pools, it should, and I'm not familiar with DPM Shell commands.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    The following commands can be used with the ntdisk number as seen in either the get-DPMDISK output, the Windows Disk Management GUI or DPM Management - Disks GUI.  In my example disk-0 is the system/boot disk and not used by DPM storage pool.
    EXAMPLE These commands show the migrations going from NTDisk 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 to NTDisks 11,12,13,14

  • Recreate pool problem on a 7110 Sun Storage

    Hi,
    we have a Sun 7110 that runs mostly well, except when the iscsi volume fills up, the volume stop, and we have to drop it and recreate it. 3 weeks ago, to counter that, I switched on dedup and compression. No idea if it is a good or bad idea, but because we got lots of i/o hanging on the volume :
    - we tried to drop again the volume via the web interface.
    - after destroying it, impossible to recreate it, so we switch to the shell to see what's going on. In fact all space was filled up into the "zombie" share (pool-0/???/zombie). No idea what it is, because we never got snapshots. And the cpu was still in the roof like it was still compressing, deduplicating or what...
    - we decided to connect to destroy the whole pool (with difficulty), and the CPU stop working as crazy
    Now impossible to recreate it via the web interface.
    - i can create the pool with zpool and create volume with zfs but they don't show up in the interface
    - if we destroy again and try to create it in the web interface, we have of course no pool in the "Available pool", so I try to create it BUT i can't:
    Model     Sun Storage 7110
    Data Devices     -
    Log Devices     -
    Cache Devices     -
    as is there weren't any disks!
    I checked : the disks are ok from the OS point of view (/var/ak/logs/debug.sys doesn't complain for example, except for a spare disk that I labeled back)
    Any idea how to "reset" the storage pool?
    Do I must go through the "factory reset" (I'm not even sure it can help).
    Or should I forgot Sun/oracle appliance kit, and install freenas instead? :-)

  • Server 2012 R2 Storage Pool Disk Identification Method

    Hi all,
    I'm currently using Server 2012 R2 Essentials with a Storage Space consisting of 7 3TB disks. The disks are connected to an LSI MegaRAID controller which does not support JBOD so each disk is configured as a single disk RAID0. The disks are connected to
    the controller using SAS Breakout Cables (SATA to SFF-8087).
    I am considering moving my server into a new chassis. The new chassis has a SAS Backplane for drive attachment which means I would be re-cabling to use SFF-8087 to SFF-8087 cables instead and in doing so, the channel and port assignment on the LSI MegaRAID
    will change.
    I know that the LSI card will have no problem identifying the disk as the same disk when it's connected to a different port or channel on the controller, but is the same true for the Storage Space?
    How does Storage Spaces track the identity of the individual disks?
    Just to be clear, the hardware configuration otherwise will not be changing. Motherboard, CPU, RAID controller etc will all be the same, it will just be moving everything into a new chassis.

    If the disks are still recognized as the same, the storage space should be recognized as well.
    You could test to do the replacement and see if the storage pools are being recognized. If not you can still change them back with original devices and storage pools will back to work. Then we may need to find a way to migrate your data. Personally I think
    it will work directly. 
    Note: backup important files is always recommended.

  • DVD Player problem - "supported disk not available" ?

    Hi all,
    Running DVD Player 4.6.5 on Tiger. Up until a while, everything was fine. Now, it won't play any DVD. It starts when I insert a DVD, but does not start playing automatically (which is what the setting currently is). When I start playing manually, all I get is the message "Supported Disk Not Available" with a stop sign beside it.
    Any suggestions/ideas/things to look into?

    Mine does this on occasion.
    Haven't figured out what the problem is but restarting fixes it.
    Can't get it to repeat the problem enough to troubleshoot it.

  • Available internal storage zero after problem happened with iCloud shared photo stream

    after I tired to upload large amount of photos to iCloud shared photo stream(2gb), which is larger than the available internal storage (only 300 mb left ). and then my iPhone stop me from uploading , said that my phone got no sufficient storage available . so, I cancel the upload, but my available internal storage is still zero. I don't know what to do, and I delete the whole (empty) album, which I targeted to upload photo to it. but even after I delete the album, my available internal storage is still zero. it suppose to return my free space(return to 300mb of free space). can any one help me with this ??
    i tried to delete apps to free up the space. i tried to delete a few apps and I manage to get back 200 my of free space but after a short while, the available free space go back to zero again...d my phone to be zero available internal storage.

  • Storage Pool - Add Physical Disk Window Empty

    I have a storage space configured with 5 physical drives on a clustered pair of servers. The drives themselves are MPIO iSCSI targets that are attached to each server. When I try to add an additional drive to the pool, the window to add the drives is blank.
    I know the drives will work in a storage pool because I've tested creating the pool with all drives from scratch.
    Any idea why this window would be blank? (FYI, the error isn't related to the pool, its a server I need to remove from the all servers list)

    Please check whether the new added disk can display in disk management. If so, is there any volume created on the disk? It should be an unallowcated disk.
    In addition, you can also run the windows powershell cmdlet Get-PhysicalDisk
    to check the status of "can pool" is ture or false.

  • DPM 2010 not recognizing space on new disk in storage pool

    We are running DPM 2010 and added one iSCSI drive with over 7 TB to the storage pool. When creating a new protection group, DPM throws the error "insufficient disk space". I'm new to DPM and none of my research has shown a reason for this error.

  • Can't find the all disks in storage pool

    I have Windows server 2012 R2 installed in KVM. I would like to create storage pool on 2 virtual disks. 
    I use whole new two virtio type disk. 
    I could see that there's two attached disks.virtio is recognized SCSI bus type.
    But I can't find all the disks in storage pool.
    No matter how many virtio disks I add, I could only see the first disk I mounted.
    Could tell me why? Are multiple virtio type disks not allowed in server 2012 R2 storage pool?

    After I initialized the 2 disks as GPT, it is still only recognized the first mounted disk.
    Does it might be related to the virtio disk type?
    Have you ever tried this situation?

    Hi there.
    I am running the newest FCPX 10.0.9 and Mavericks, and I am editing a large multicam project. I have approx. 190 GB left on my external event/project disk via USB3 (it has 2TB in total), and I get the error message:
    "There is not enough disk space available to process clips. Clear some space and try again."
    when I am trying to add clips to an angle in one of my multicam clips. I have made more than 8 multicam clips in the same event, without that problem, but now it won't let me add more.
    What's the problem?

    This was driving me nuts as well until I found the sneaky checkbox. In the editing tab in Preferences there is a checkbox for "Optimize media for multicam." If that's checked, Final Cut is rendering ProRes files for every clip you bring into multicam, so it just eats memory. Unchecking that solved my issues; hope it helps you or anyone who comes across this!

  • After upgrading to 8.1 Pro from 8.0 Pro, my Storage Spaces and Storage Pool are all gone.

    Under 8.0 I had three 4-terabyte drives set up as a Storage Pool in Storage Spaces.  I had five storage-space drives using this pool  I had
    been using them for months with no problems.  After upgrading to 8.1 ( which gave no errors ) the drives no longer exist.  Going into "Storage Spaces" in the control panel, I do not see my existing storage pool or storage drives. I'm prompted
    to create a new Pool and Storage Spaces.  If I click the "Create Pool" it does not list the three drives I used previously as available to add.
    Device Manager shows all three drives as present and OK.  
    Disk Management shows Disks 0,1,2,6.  The gap in between 2 and 6 is where the 3,4,5 storage spaces drives were.  
    Nothing helpful in the event log or the services.
    I've downloaded the ReclaiMe Storage Spaces recovery tool and it sees all of my logical drives with a "good" prognosis for recovery.  I've not gone down that road yet though because it requires separate physical drives to copy everything to
    and they want $299 for the privilege.
    Does anyone have any ideas?  I'm thinking of doing a fresh 8.1 install to another drive to see if it can see it or reinstalling 8.1 to the existing drive in the hope that it will just suddenly work.  Or possibly going back to 8.0.
