Problem downloading IOS 5

I am unable to download IOS 5 for ITunes.  I get a message saying the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.  Tried manually downloading but doesn't work.  I thought about uninstalling ITunes and then re-installing but don't want to do that in case it doesn't download and I am left without an ITunes application.  Anyone help?

I assume you are on a PC. Definitely DO NOT uninstall iTunes, because in order to reinstall it you would need to uninstall all Apple components, and it is very difficult to tell if they are completely uninstalled, so you would indeed most likely end up without an iTunes.
You will need to go to Start Menu > open Run > services.msc > find and restart the iTunes service. This exact "Network Resource" error has come up on my clients' computers before.

Hello, I hope by now you have resolved the upgrade issue, but if not, here is what I ended up having to do:
“SUCCESS!!! I took my iPod to a friend who is a computer programmer/genius. He turned off his wireless, hooked the ethernet cable directly into his computer, and the download went through without a hitch. YAY!”
Here is my original post explaining what I had already tried:
    “Hi all,
I got an iPod Touch 1st gen for my youngest son for Christmas as a starter. It has the 2.1.2 ios on it, but after I paid for the upgrade to 3.1.1, I keep getting an error message (8288) saying there was a problem with the network connection. I have called customer service, and they suggested I try on a different computer, and if that didn't work, try connecting to a different network, and then trying the update. None of this has worked. It seems that tech support is clueless with this issue.
I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.
    Can anyone help? Please?!
    Thank you!!!
P.S. We have a PC, with Windows XP Home.”
Now, there seem to be a lot of different ways to solve the 8288 error, none of which are universal. Best of luck getting yours upgraded!

P.S. The post by Sparkhi is a link to his blog going into a long story about how he wanted Apple to pay him for “solving” the issue….the one that apparently has been solved by multiple solutions. I’m not trying to bash, it just bothers me that he put up this whole story and finally, at the very end of his blog post, posts his solution.

  • Is anyone having a problem downloading ios 7

Is anyone having a problem downloading ios 7

Yes. If you'd bothered to read a few posts here before making your own, you would see other people are having problems.
You'd also see dozens of identical replies telling why. The servers are busy due to millions of people all trying to download at the same time.

Okay . . . thanks. . . I'm going to let it charge overnight and then see what happens in the morning.   Then I will try resetting the network settings.

I am having problems downloading ios 5 update as it gets right to the end it then says my internet has timed out, even though it hasnt .  Any ideas?

This is a common issue and a solution could have been quickly found by doing a search.
Disable any Anti-Virus and Firewall software on the computer, then run the update.

  • I'm having a problem downloading iOS 6....

I'm having a problem downloading ios6. I've tried numerous times and the same error comes up. It says "Software Update Failed, An error occurred downloading iOS 6." If anyone has a solution please share! Thanks

I've tried OTA and on iTunes and even in DFU mode and the same error shows. I'm sure it's just an overload of download requests.

  • Problems downloading iOS 8?

Well first, I was having an issue with the time the download was taking using iTunes. I plugged in my iPhone 5s and asked iTunes to download the new software only. It would connect to my phone and begin to download and I disconnected my phone. The download time would continue to climb until it was about 45-50 hours. I have Verizon FiOS 50/35 and a speed test reveals that I'm at 58.48 Mbps connected to the router through ethernet. So I really don't understand why it should take that long to download 1.9 GB. Then I encountered an error in iTunes that stopped the download altogether. It stated: "There was a problem downloading the software for the iphone 'my iPhone.' The network connection failed." But like I said, I'm connected to the internet through an ethernet cable and I don't have any network problems otherwise. So I tried working around iTunes and downloading iOS 8 through a direct link from this website: http://www.iphonehacks.com/2014/09/ios-8-download.html and clicked on the link for the model of my phone and that is telling me it will take 3 days to download, sometimes jumping up to 7 DAYS. Is this just an Apple server problem? Are the download times I'm experiencing normal for other users? If it's just a matter of traffic then I guess I could wait to complete my download, but I've seen some people on other forums who said it took them 5 minutes to download it and a total of 10 minutes when you add in the install time. So I'm just wondering if these are common problems that others are also experiencing or if the problem is on my end and I can do something to fix it. Thank you.
P.S. Sorry if this is posted in an incorrect location, I just haven't been able to find the answers to my questions.

    Hi everybody,
I made my way over to the Verizon forums, and found my answer here http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/All-Apple-updates-time-out-But-throug h-a-VPN-it-s-fine/td-p/744887/page/3. There's some speculation that it is a problem with Verizon FiOS although I guess their reps are claiming its Apple. Either way, I got my download time down to 8 minutes by changing my DNS, you'll find instructions on how to do the same at the link above. You might have to try changing it to a few different ones, I found the best for me was the Level3 primary DNS server from this website http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/a/free-public-dns-servers.htm. The Verizon forum users stated that not all DNS servers will work for everyone or for all downloads, meaning that if one works to download iOS 8 for your iPhone but then you can't get it on your iPad, try a different one. So the trick is trial and error until you find one that works for you. Good luck!

  • Problems downloading IOS 5 to Ipad

Is it normal to take hours to download IOS 5 to my Ipad?  It seems to freeze or slow down midway through download, so I cancel. I have yet to succeed downloading IOS 5.  Could it possibly be my personal computer (which is old) or the downloading proccess?  I managed to upgrade itunes to 10.5.

Th iOS 5.0.1 update is about 700 meg, so if you are on a slow network it can take quite a long time to download, especially if you are doing other things online at the same time on your computer.

  • HT1222 I am having problems downloading iOS 7.0.6 on my iPad. Can anyone help?

  • Problem downloading IOS 5.1

Hello everyone. I recently bought an iPod touch 4g and have been trying to update to IOS 5.1. I can't however because iTunes will say there was a problem and the network connection timed out. My internet connection is working fine. I'll explain. When I start downloading, it gets about 1/4 of the way done, the "minutes remaining" increases rather than decreases and it eventually says there is a problem and the network connection timed out. I tried turning off my firewall but still no luck.
    Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks!

Disabling the computer's security software during the download and update usually resolves that error.

  • Problems Downloading iOS 6

Okay so it's been a few days since the iPhone 5 has come out, yes? And same with the newer iOS 6 iPhone software. Ever since this update has been released I have been trying everything I can to download it, i've tried downloading it from my phone and leaving it overnight and wake up with an error. I would try it on the computer and it estimates that it will be 7 hours until the download is completed, I chec two hours later and no progress at all actually. I have wiped all the content off my phone, restarted it, everything you can think of and no effect. My family had no troubles downloading it in 10 minutes. HELP PLEASE! -.-

Same here.  Tried it on both of my computers.  Seems to download, but then I get the same message you are getting.

  • Problem downloading ios 5 - connection timeout during processing

After waiting 6mins for the ios 5 download, it reaches the last stage 0.01kb before completion with the message 'processing' and then it cancels and I get a message saying 'connection timeout error'. All my other internet services and downloads are working fine. I have installed and reinstalled itunes 10.5.
Is anyone else experiancing this? And what can I do??

Interesting all the issues with upgrading to IOS 5 for the IPhone 4. When I upgraded mine several weeks ago it took 3 attempts then worked. My daughter has had no end of trouble with hers....15 20 times, keeps coming up with errors. Same issues as everyone else. Just tried one fix that was noted.......turn off firewall and bingo all worked. It is a pity issues like this aren't recognised by Apple and resolved.....Anyway one happy IPhone 4 user. Thanks guys
