  • Ipod nano possible with win 2000???

my wife just got an ipod nano \(3rr gen) for her bday, and we have a computer with win 2000. now the only itunes we can find for win 2000 is ver. 7.3. when i downloaded this it tells me that i need ver. 7.4 or better. anyone got any info or tips for me... PLEASE

NO. That is NOT what the website says. When you go to the 732 for Windows 2000 d/l page, it clearly states you can use Win2k. The website says "iTunes is the best way to enjoy your digital music and video with your PC, iPod and Apple TV. iTunes 7.3.2 for Windows 2000 is designed to work with Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 or later. To use iTunes with Windows XP or Windows Vista, visit http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ to download the latest version. Use iTunes to import CDs or download songs and videos from the iTunes Store. Make playlists perfect for any occasion. Burn playlists to CDs and play them on your home stereo. Sync your media with iPod to enjoy it on the go, or play your collection on your TV with Apple TV."
Why have so many missed this??? Apple is clearly stating they support Win2k - including sync to ipod. I so got one. I d/l the iTunes 732 for Win2k and it works fine - to play music (using it right now). But once I connect my new nano, I get the error message "The iPod 'IPOD' cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 7.4 or later. Go to www.blah blah to d/l v7.4..." So.... what now??? I'm stumped. And never-mind the "win2k is old and nobody supports it..." stuff... Microsoft still offers SP4 for d/l.
Why would Apple put a utility in a backward compat. program that is not backward compatible?????
In addition (and this may be over my head), but why does the website show the file @ 47.7MB, put once on my hd it shows 37.9MB?? I've d/l the file twice to be sure but have the same result.
Please forgive me - I am not shooting the messenger, I'm terribly confused. I am clearly missing something. Would someone PLEASE set me straight??? I'm a big boy - I can take it.

  • 9i installation problem on a Win 2000 P4 PC

    Hi,
Although I am new to Oracle, with the help of documentation I successfully managed to install it on a Window 2000 PC without any major problems except for the one described below.
    The problem is this:
When the PC was part of a campus domain (e.g., claflin.edu) I got "end-of-file on communication channel" and "internal error. hostdef extension doesn't exist" errors repeatedly many times during installation but I didn't get any when the PC was taken off the network and added to a workgroup.
Is there something I need to do to make it work on a network? Has anyone seen this same behavior on Win 2000 or is it something unique in my case?
By the way, I am also running the personal web server (PWS) in the same PC.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Kuha M.

    Hi Eric,
Ther should not be any problem in stalling NWDS SP9. Your case the problem may be
    1)Insufficient Disk Space
    2)Outdated vesrion of JDK
    3) you might not have been downloded full fledged NWDS SP9 installer.
4)May be while installing NWDS it is not able to locate JDK in Directory.
if you check all these, i hope it will work!!!.

  • File Sharing OSX with Win 2000 & XP

Hi, I have an existing MS Windows network that works fine and has a LinkSys Router and Switch. I am attempting to connect my G4 PB via Ethernet but have trouble mounting the Win volume. I can see, and transfer files, to the G4 via Win Networking but can not mount the Win volume from my Apple. I can see the Win computer, via network, on my Apple.. double click on the computer, get the window that asks me to select the volume, select it, get the authentication (workgroup, name, password) window, click OK and get a window that says "The alias xxx could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found." This was working before my F&R with the help of the Apple engineering team. There was a single check box, on the Windows side, that fixed this but I can't remember what it was. PLEASE HELP...

Hi, After my post, I followed your link and realized that what I suggested had been covered by the article, sorry. Sounds like we have similar situations so let's see if we can work this out... I remember when I originally connected my G4 to my Windows network last January, I could not get the volumes on the Win side to mount because of this "alias" error message. I finally resolved the problem with a setting change on my Win PC, not the Apple. I have a LinkSys Cable Modem, Router, Switch and AirPort Extreme (wireless) for my Network equipment. All PC's and APE are connected to the Switch via ethernet. The Switch is connected to the Router and the Router to the Cable Modem. All connected devices are set to DHCP (automatic) and my Router is configured as the DHCP server. All devices automatically are assigned an IP from the Router when they boot up. Now... when your Mini is connected via ethernet... what do you see when you click on Network? I see my Win computers with the name I set up under Network ID. When I click on the computer (to mount a volume) I get the first window which asks me to select a shared volume on that computer, then I get the authentication window. Make sure you have entered the correct workgroup and user name/password for that computer/volume. I find it easier if I just share the whole drive for testing as it is easier than setting up individual shares. Once it is working, I can go back and re-configure.

  • AEX as client with Win 2000...Can it work?

I thought I was rather AirPort savvy after successfully wading through all my problems setting it up under XP. Then a friend asked if I could help him get his AEX up and running. Five hours later I am still at a loss. With an eathernet connection the airport admin software connects to the unit and all is well. But the unit still does nothing but flash amber when no wires are connected. He wants his Airport Express to join the existing wirless network. His setup is as follows:
    Windows 2000
Trendnet router (the same that I am using)
    No WEP or WPA protection
    Network name "wlan-g"
    No MAC filtering
    Server assigned DHCP/IP
Admin utility setup with the same details as above
Factory reset unit w/ latest firmware
Thanks in advace for any help

Presumably you followed David Lovell's instructions at:
David Lovell, "Airtunes for XP with a Wired/Wireless network" #1, 09:05pm Jan 8, 2005 CDT
If the PC running Windows 2000 can "see", view, and alter the configuration of the Airport Express, then the PC is not the cause of the problem.
I don't immediately see what you are doing wrong based on what you have told us. Long shot but - you might try renaming the router using only letters, numbers, and no punctuation like the "-" character.
Trying to go for excessive range, having the Airport Express located behind a pile of cables and stereo equipment, and radio interference from neighboring networks can also play a big role in preventing the Airport Express from communicating with the router.

The way to setup windows sharepoints other than your home folder can be done using an easy to use shareware app called Sharepoints.
Set up your mounted CD as a sharepoint and your windows PC should be able to log into your mac and see the whole volume.

  • Is Oracle 8.0.4 compatible with Win 2000 Advanced Srv

Sorry this is probably not the right place to post this but if anyone knows or can point me to the right place on how to find out if Oracle 8.0.4 and Windows 2000 Advanced Server with Terminal Server loaded are compatible, I would appreciate it.
    TIA

Thanks for the answer. Where in the 6.1 package is the thin driver?

I do believe that 8.0.5 from Oracle has been removed from support by
    Oracle.
You may also want to try the Oracle thin driver, which is available in
    the
    6.1 package.

  • N97 Sync With Win 2000

    Hi,
Just got the N97 as an upgrade to my 5800.As with the 5800, I've a problem in trying to sync with my work PC which runs on Win2K. Current versions of PC Suite and Ovi Suite doesn't support Win2K, so my question is, does any of the older Win2k compatible versions sync with the N97? If not, is there anyway to sync my office calendar with the N97?

hmm i think that you might be able to connect your phone via  ovi suite through usb option and sync your contacts in that way. for contacts and messages also consider those options until ovi figures itself out and actually becomes stable and usable.

consider these options but try syncing ovi via usb to your phone first.

  • Ipod touch with Win 2000 Professional

Is there any way to connect (install) my iPod touch (32GB) with Win2000 Professional OS (SP4)?

I haven't seen so many problems and complain for any product, so long time. Especially complains regarding major functionality. For example, buy some digital camera and complain on the forum that you can not make picture or movies with it, or lost your entire picture from camera memory …almost like Microsoft products :-)…
So, if that true…I don’t think that has any connection with internet age but with lack of quality control and angry for many and profit, as same as other companies.
I didn’t know that previous generation of iPods not work with W2K, especially because of that iPod nano works with my OS without any problems. As same as iTunes (7.3.2.6), which I’ve
    found on Apple’site.
But, besides all that, my mistake is that I didn’t know things about support. And when I’ve found that, it was late because box was in my hand already (I’ve ordered iPod from USA).
Also, I think that iPod is good product and there is no need to explain me things about forums and internet age, but at same time I think that some things could be done more decent.
    Nothing else, nothing more.
And yes with your attitude and approach your were judging me, but it’s not meter anymore. I’ve got answer on my question.
    Thanks for helping.

Talk about an old release! smercurio is right, LabVIEW never officially supported the Windows server variants. Not sure about 2000 but for Windows Server 2003 this was certainly for a reason as although you could install and run LabVIEW on there (no I don't think version 6i would install there) I know for sure you could run in some obscure behaviour sometimes.
Windows Server being a specific platform used in IT departements who usually would rather jump from a plane without parachute than letting someone else install an application on their systems, it makes not much sense for NI to spend much energy in trying to make LabVIEW work flawlessly on it.

  • ORARRP with Win 2000 Terminal Services

    Hi,
We find that ORARRP (1.3.4) directs output to a file instead of the virtual printer on Windows 2000 terminal services. The print dialog comes up OK, we select a virtual printer (not LPT1 or a network printer share), and a file named TS001 is written. If we turn debug on, nothing is written to orarrp.dbg. The normal print dialog in Notepad, Word, etc. works OK.
Is there any way to direct report output to Windows 2000 Terminal Services virtual printers?
