Problem Exporting - Append to PDF?

Hi
I have a heavy InDesign doc - Full color, many graphics etc. Size is 60MB
We decided to change the size of the book, so I export to PDF, then import the pdf to new doc with new size and fit it to page.
The new doc size is 80 MB
For some reason, when I try exporting the new doc with the placed pdf, I get an error in the middle of the export "Out of Memory"
If anyone has any advice on that - I'd be glad to hear.
Otherwise, I was thinking of making a script to export 50 pages at a time (which does work)
The problem is that I then need another step of combining the files in Acrobat
Is there a way that InDesign can append to an existing PDF?
Thanks
David
P.S. Any other ideas and advice is more than welcome!

Thanks Luc
But it seems that each item needs to be set on its own...?
The pages are set by default to "controlled by master"
The master page was set to "off"
I turned master to "scale", then I enlarged the page size - but the items on the master pages did not scale
How do I get the objects on the master pages to scale with the page size?

    I get big sections of text no longer text but dashed lines as well as funny "missing font" problems of fonts that don't exist/I don't use. Any help would be appreciated, as I have never had this problem before with CS, CS2 or CS4.

    I'll say to you what I always say in response to this statement when no true bug has been established. 99% of the time what users think are bugs turn out, if you spend the time to dig deep enough, to be some sort of software conflict or configuration issue on the user's own machine. There is nothing that an update can or will do to solve these localized issues.
    Most true bugs show up here in the forum pretty quickly with dozens, if not hundreds, of complaints, unless they are triggered by something very obscure that most users never do. Export to PDF, Times New Roman, and paragraph rules don't really fit the obscure description, and I don't believe other users will be able to consistently reproduce your problems, let alone the Adobe engineers (and they can't fix waht they can't reliably reproduce).
    I don't blame you for going back to a system that works to get your project done, but if you want to progress with using CS6 I think you need to do some more work on your end. Consistently odd behavior, and you're telling us now about more than one oddity, can be casued by damaged preferences, easy to test (see Replace Your Preferences) or a failed or damaged appliction installation. You may find, when you have time, that uninstalling, running the clean tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) and reinstalling will help. Running in diagnostic mode, with startup programs and extensions disabled, is also a good way to check for software conflicts you might not suspect.

  • PDF quality problems exporting from InDesign and Photoshop

    Hi There.
    I'm having big problems exporting my InDesign files to PDFs and retaining the res. And it's not just the images (I understand about the dpi) it's the type on there too.
    I have been exporting as the preset High Quality Print - is this wrong. Are there other settings to ensure the PDF I export retains the high-res quality and clarity?
    At the moment it comes out high-res when I export it as a jpeg or eps but not PDF.
    I have also noticed the same problem when I export to a PDF from Photoshop.
    I really need to create interactive and high quality print PDFs from my InDesign files.
    Please can you advise.
    Thanks
    Karen

    I am also having problems with pdfs exported from Illustrator and Indesign recently. I didn't have these problems before, so I don't kno if something has changed in my settings that I am unaware of.
    When I use the 'japanese dots' border in Indesign, it shows on the pdf as a kind of dotted line. I'm exporting as 'High Quality Print'. I switched to Illustrator and drew a line with the pen tool, and converted it to a dotted line; it looked just how I wanted in in Illustrator, but as soon as I exported it, the same thing happened.
    I have used the 'japanese dots' border in the past, exporting as 'High Quality Print', and not had this problem.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Problem with diacritics when export in Acrobat(PDF)

    Hello,
    I use reporting service from Sql Server 2008 R2 and I have a problem when I export in Acrobat(PDF) format. All the 'ș' and 'ț' are after export in pdf just a square.
    Can you please help me. Thanks.

    Hi Alin-g,
    SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services supports Adobe Acrobat 6 or later. So, please make sure your current Acrobat version meets the requirement.
    Besides, the font in the PDF format may be different with that in the HTML rendering extension because GDI font substitution in those formats behaves differently. If there is a font missing on the client, you might see characters replaced with boxes (□).

  • Transparency problems when I distort Pdf image size (ie: 100%x99%) then Export. Is there away to fix

    I sometimes have transparency problems when I distort PDF image size (i.e.: 100%x99%) then Export. Is there away to fix.   Or at least be able to preflight and know I have an issue.

    Mostly I have seen borders and drop shadows that will just go away or other wise not print right but only when I distort the image and only on very complicated large PDF images.  When I print it at same % both horz and vert. this problem goes away.

  • Problems exporting as pdf

    I am having problems exporting a multipage website as a working pdf.  I get a dialogue box stating that there are incorrect parameters.  I am using Mac OS 10.5.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.  Carrie

    Hi Peter,
    First off, thanks for your help & follow up.
    I guess I'm having trouble actually installing the abracadabra Automator script. I downloaded it, unzipped it and attempted to open it in Automator and received the following errors.
    From there, I thought it may have been installed. But I'm still having some problems. According to the site the next should be " save it as a module via the menu File > Save as module > Finder module . It will then be available by right-clicking on any icon Finder via the sub-menu> Automator > PDF-Assembler ."
    Forgive me for my cluelessness, but I'm not sure where to go from here.

  • Problem exporting booklet with tab dividers to pdf

    Hi, I have an Indesign document that has different page sizes (because some pages have tab dividers). I need to export it to pdf as a booklet, however I've found some problems:
    - When I choose the "Spreads" option, the page 2 is facing the page 3 but I need the document as a booklet, so the page 2 sould be facing the one that is before the last page).
    - When I choose the "pages" option and then select the "booklet" option in Acrobat Pro, for some reason there's a big space between the 2 pages (the size of each page is like 1/4 of a letter size page). I mean, the 2 pages are not
    - As I said before, some pages have tab dividers so, when I'll print it, I have to cut the tabs that are not usefull in each page. However the document is a booklet, so I need that the page behind the one I'm cutting has it's information adjusted so I don't lose some of the data.
    I would really appreciate any help you can give me.

    For professionell printers ist is not a problem. If you wnat to give it away for printing, don't impose it yourself. Deliver the pdf with single pages and bleed and communicate with the printer. Imposing is their job.
    I would not use the booklet funktion inside InDesign.
    For your case, when you need to print it on a Laser Printer, I would use the print booklet function in Acrobat Pro.
    Problem is here for you, that the pages have different sizes. If you have no plans to give it to a printer make all pages to the same size and cut it later. If you need both, create an alternative Layout with same sized pages and us the second one for Laser Printing.

  • Problems exporting pdf from indesign CS4

    when I export a pdf using flattening the pdf contains lines (1 pixel) that contain 1-2% more black. The image used in the file (see below) is a transparant psd on a gradient.
    Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
    Thank you
    Jeroen

    Just because a printer demands flattened transparency in PDF files they accept, doesn't mean that it is proper practice. Flattened transparency and lack of full color management requires what is effectively a highly device dependent PDF file where you know exactly what the device's color space and resolution are at the time you perform the transparency flattening. As far as we are concerned, any print service provider that refuses a properly created PDF file with live transparency and color management is a print provider, where the word service is definitely not appropriate. Such printers would rather blame you, the customer, for problems as opposed to using their professional skills and provide service to you.
    Although Adobe is a vendor member of the Ghent PDF Workgroup (in fact, I am Adobe's representative to that group), Adobe does not endorse use of its PDF/X Plus standards and settings until such time such standards and settings are based on PDF/X-4. Such a change is supposed to occur within the next year.
    In terms of the actual artifacts you are seeing, do the same artifacts show when you print to a local PostScript printer?
    What do you see and how does it print if you export using the PDF/X-4 settings?
    And finally, to respond to Peter Spier's comment, I highly doubt that TIFF or PSD would make any difference in theory (although I have learned that you can't always count on theory ).

  • Problems Exporting to PDF with ID 5.5 - specific symptoms

    I'm hoping the symptoms of my problem are specific enough that someone will have a good idea of what's wrong.
    I have multiple chapter files that I use to make up a single book file, which I create the pdf from. Here's what happens:
    1. When I click on the "print the book" icon at the bottom of the book window, ID will crash.
    2. So instead, I click on the pull-down menu at the upper right of the window and select "Export book to pdf".
    3. Now, it generates a pdf but in the pdf some pages are with a single page from the ID file and some have two pages spread across a single pdf page, very randomly it appears.
    4. To get around this (or so I thought) I went to document setup in ID and deselected the "Facing Pages" checkbox.
    5. As soon as I do this, the left side header and footer of all pages in that chapter get offset to the left. Ok, so I go to the master page and realign them.
    6. Now I export again in the manner described above and the page numbering comes out all messed up in the pdf. Even if the ID (source) file has pages 6-1, 6-2, etc. in the pdf every page will be marked as 6-1.
    Any help on this will be greatly appreciated! I am using Windows XP.

    Firstly - the 4-6 steps are unnescearry - I recommend you go back to the original layout.

    if the problem persists, try selecting individual documents in the Book to export to PDF or to print. It could be a specific file causing the issue.
    If some pages are coming out as "spreads" then you must have facing pages in some documents and some single pages in another document or something? I recommend turning off Spreads in the PDF and print settings.
    It's a little unclear of your document structure - and your document sizes. What are the sizes of the document in all the individual Chapters. Can you post screen shots of the Book panel - and also of each Chapter file (just a single or spread of a page(s))

  • CR4Ev2 problem exporting to PDF containing Turkish characters

    I know there are other threads with similar topics but I also know some people get irritated when people jump onto their threads with their own problems.
    I am using CR4Ev2 and on my machine which I have installed Eclipse on I have no problems
    exporting my reports to PDF, I have Turkish characters which display perfectly (they did not with
    CR4Ev1 so thanks so much for that)
    I have now exported my project as a WAR file and am trying to run it on another machine with the same
    Tomcat and Java versions.
    If I view the report via the CrystalReport Viewer the Turkish characters display with no hassel.
    But if I try export the report to PDF all the Turksh characters now display as ?, (as they did in CR4Ev1)
    Am I missing something, is there something that I am not including in my project that I need
    when exporting the PDF.
    I have installed Adobe Reader 9 on this new machine incase the Turkish langauge fonts were not in
    my version 8, but still get funny ? characters, I even installed the Turksih version of Adobe 9 and still nothing. Is there some other files that I could have installed on my Eclipse machine that I have not installed
    on the second machine.
    I have tried both the following commands to export to PDF
    CRJavaHelper.exportPDF(clientDoc, response, true);
    and
    CRJavaHelper.exportPDF(clientDoc, response, false);
    both dont work.
    I have also tried the following (which I used before with CR4Ev1)
    ByteArrayInputStream byteArrayInputStream = (ByteArrayInputStream)clientDoc.getPrintOutputController().export(ReportExportFormat.PDF);
    writeToFileSystem(byteArrayInputStream, EXPORT_OUTPUT); // EXPORT_OUTPUT = "c:\test.pdf"
    private void writeToFileSystem(ByteArrayInputStream byteArrayInputStream, String exportFile) throws Exception {
              //Use the Java I/O libraries to write the exported content to the file system.
              byte byteArray[] = new byte[byteArrayInputStream.available()];
              //Create a new file that will contain the exported result.
              File file = new File(exportFile);
              FileOutputStream fileOutputStream = new FileOutputStream(file);
              ByteArrayOutputStream byteArrayOutputStream = new ByteArrayOutputStream(byteArrayInputStream.available());
              int x = byteArrayInputStream.read(byteArray, 0, byteArrayInputStream.available());
              byteArrayOutputStream.write(byteArray, 0, x);
              byteArrayOutputStream.writeTo(fileOutputStream);
              //Close streams.
              byteArrayInputStream.close();
              byteArrayOutputStream.close();
              fileOutputStream.close();
    But that also does not work.
    Please can someone tell me what they think I am missing.
    Oh, another note with the CRJavaHelper.exportPDF(clientDoc, response, false); command
    It does work but I do get the following error in my console (both the Eclipse machine and the new one).

    Darren

    Ted,
    I have double checked the Java version and infact reinstalled jdk6u7 (multilanguage version) just to be
    100% sure, but that did not help.
    ON my Eclipse machine the Fonts are as follows
    Verdana(Embedded Subset)
         Type: TrueType
         Encoding: Built-In
    but on the other machine it is different
    Verdana
        Type: TrueType
        Encoding: Ansi
        Actual Font: Verdana
        Actual Font Type: TrueType
    So that does appear to be the problem, but the question is what controls this?
    As I said the project is exactly the same (same WAR file) so what I have done differently or what am I
    missing in the new enviroment.
    I set the "Text file encoding" for the whole project to UTF-8 before I exported the project (in Eclipse)
    but that didnt help. I even set the properties of each report to UTF-8.
    I am sure I am missing something simple.
    The only other difference is Im running XP Pro on Eclipse machine but W2KSP4 on the other, but
    surely that is not the issue.
    Cheers
    Darren

    Hi everyone! Help me
    I have a problem with font when export report to PDF
    My report uses template .rtf with font Times New Roman (Unicode), language is VietNamese.

    give it time to boot. the time depends on yr memory size n data. soon a process bar will appear indicating the boot process. if still this doesnt work. try formating the phone. but this ways u lose all data on the phone (unless u backed it). relax! the data on the memory card is safe.

  • Problem exporting PDF document

    I have a form implemented as a PDF form and would like to add a workflow step to my process so that the PDF form can be sent as an email attachment. Based on a previous posting, it seems that I need to use the RepositoryServices Read Resource Content operation to get the PDF form from the repository and add it to a process variable of type document. When I do this I get an type coercian error that states: "Cannot coerce object: com.adobe.idp.taskmanager.form.impl.xfa.XFARRepositoryFormInstance@15bb014 of type com.adobe.idp.taskmanager.form.impl.xfa.XFARRepositoryFormInstance to type class.lang.Boolean
    I'm setting the Input Resource Uri to the literal value "/BDI_DEV/forms_BDI REP Form.pdf" and the Output variable to a varaible of type document - which as far as I can tell from the documentation should be correct. For some reason, however, the error message seems to indicate that the system is attempting to store the repository object in a boolean - I do have a process variable of type boolean, but the output variable I've selected is of type document.

    "WorkflowUser" was finally able to help me resolve the problem with creating a PDF document that can be saved to file or mailed to somebody - here's how he told be to configure things to get this working:
    1. I created a process variable called XMLData of type xml.
    2. I created a process variable called XMLDataDoc of type document.
    3. I created a process variable called RenderedForm of type document.
    4. I added a SetValue service step in which the following mappings were created:
    - /process_data/XMLData is set to /process_data/REPForm/object/data/xdp
    - /process_data/@XMLDataDoc is set to /process_data/XMLData
    5. I added a renderPDFForm step using the FormsService. In this the following input and output parameters were configured:
    - "Form to Render" was set to a literal value referencing the form template - i.e. BDI_DEV/forms/BDI REP Form.pdf
    - "Form Data" was set to the XMLDataDoc variable.
    - The "Content Root URI" field under "URL Options" was set to "repository:/
    - The "Rendered Form" output section was set to reference the variable "RenderedForm".
    This then allowed me to email the document using the RenderedForm variable.

    Here is the answer. After getting ReportClientDoc from factory we need to set the DatabaseController userid and password (if report on Crystal server is accessing oracle database as datasource). In addition we need to set parameters on the ReportClientDoc for reports and subreports before doing the the export.
    Here is snippet of code: The code below is used to get ReportClientDocument and export it as PDF using bytestream.
    /* Code for getting report client document */
    private static synchronized ReportClientDocument getReportClientDocument() throws Exception
             int count = 3;
             ReportClientDocument rpt = null;
             while (count > 0 && rpt == null)
                  try
                       if (_enterpriseSession == null)
                            ISessionMgr _sessionMgr = CrystalEnterprise.getSessionMgr();
                            _enterpriseSession = _sessionMgr.logon(CRYSTAL_USERID, CRYSTAL_PASSWORD, CRYSTAL_SERVER, CRYSTAL_AUTH);
                             LOG.info("Successful Logging into Crystal Server: " + CRYSTAL_SERVER);
                             _reportAppFactory = (IReportAppFactory)_enterpriseSession.getService("", "RASReportFactory");
                             _infoStore = (IInfoStore)_enterpriseSession.getService("InfoStore");
                             IInfoObjects result = _infoStore.query("Select SI_ID, SI_NAME From CI_INFOOBJECTS Where SI_NAME = '" + CRYSTAL_REPORT_NAME + "' And SI_INSTANCE = 0");
                             IInfoObject infoObject = (IInfoObject)result.get(0);
                             _reportId = infoObject.getID();
                             LOG.info("Located Report Id on Crystal Server: "+_reportId);
                        LOG.info("Created or found CR session");
                        rpt = _reportAppFactory.openDocument(_reportId, 0, Locale.ENGLISH);
                        break;
                  catch (Exception e)
                       rpt = null;
                       _enterpriseSession = null;
