Problem exporting from large sequences

I'm reposting here becase it could be hardware related (the system is new), and because it wasn't answered on the CS5 forum and quickly got buried beneath 100 other threads.  There's usually more in-depth support on this forum.  Here goes:
I'm running CS5 5.02 on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit with an X58A-UD3R mobo, i7 930, 12 GB RAM, and a GTX 470.  The footage is 4:3 NTSC DV, 29.97fps, 720x480. The sequence is DV NTSC Standard 48 kHz.  OS on C drive, media and project on E drive, exporting to F drive.
I often put 100 clips or sometimes even 1000 clips on a sequence.
When I go to File-->Export and start exporting video for a small work area (10 seconds or less), it brings up a dialogue box that says "Encoding Sequence 01" and doesn't make any progress for a painfully long time if there are many clips on the sequence.  The more clips in the sequence, the longer it waits before exporting.  If I isolate the same clip in another empty sequence and try to export the same small work area, it quickly exports the file.  As I add and delete clips from a sequence, the problem waxes and wanes.  When there's over 200-300 clips, I've never seen it export the video because it just sits there forever "encoding".
I've tried this with several export formats: mpeg2, h264, quicktime, etc., with the same results.  Exporting a still JPEG will quickly work on the large sequence, but it is very slow to export video.
It's as if Premiere is trying to encode the entire sequence first even though I've told it to only encode the small work area.  It still only exports the small work area I requested, not the entire sequence.
Can someone please try to replicate this a few hundred clips and/or give me advice?

Thanks for your replies, guys.
I'm under deadline but will try running PPBM5 on Tuesday and post back here to see if you have ideas.
There must be something wrong with my setup, because although the project runs smoothly, the exporting lags significantly even with 100 or 200 clips.  Surely CS5 should be able to export quickly from sequences as small as that.  I had no problem doing this with previous versions of Premiere Pro.
Can anyone try throwing 100-200 clips onto a sequence to see if it causes any lag before exporting a small work area?

  • Quality problem exporting from FCE

    Hi,
i have a quality problem exporting from FCE. I have finalized a 30 minute movie and want to send it to friends on DVD or CD-ROM. when i use "export as quicktime movie" the file has 6.5 GB and won't fit on a DVD-ROM. when i use "export with quicktime conversion" and choose quicktime movie with H.264 compression and highest quality the movie goes down to 4.2GB. Now it would fit on a DVD-ROM, but the quality is not good. The picture looks blurred and i see some type of interlace-effect.
which type of export format do i have to choose to avoid the interlace and blurred pictures? is there a magic format that does not cost that much quality and reduces the movie by 30-40%? or would a video DVD work better? how do i create a DVD? with iDVD?
    thanks for your help!

or would a video DVD work better? how do i create a DVD? with iDVD?
    That's what Id do.
Export as QuickTime Movie (reference file is OK) and drop the export to iDVD.
You will get 1 hour of FCE Timeline on a single sided disc using Best Performance (iDVD setting).
Two hours using Best Quality (iDVD setting)

  • PDF quality problems exporting from InDesign and Photoshop

    Hi There.
I'm having big problems exporting my InDesign files to PDFs and retaining the res. And it's not just the images (I understand about the dpi) it's the type on there too.
I have been exporting as the preset High Quality Print - is this wrong. Are there other settings to ensure the PDF I export retains the high-res quality and clarity?
At the moment it comes out high-res when I export it as a jpeg or eps but not PDF.
I have also noticed the same problem when I export to a PDF from Photoshop.
I really need to create interactive and high quality print PDFs from my InDesign files.
    Please can you advise.
    Thanks
    Karen

I am also having problems with pdfs exported from Illustrator and Indesign recently. I didn't have these problems before, so I don't kno if something has changed in my settings that I am unaware of.
When I use the 'japanese dots' border in Indesign, it shows on the pdf as a kind of dotted line. I'm exporting as 'High Quality Print'. I switched to Illustrator and drew a line with the pen tool, and converted it to a dotted line; it looked just how I wanted in in Illustrator, but as soon as I exported it, the same thing happened.
I have used the 'japanese dots' border in the past, exporting as 'High Quality Print', and not had this problem.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Problem exporting from FCP using compressor

Out of the blue - I'm getting batch failures trying to export from FCP for use in a DVD. Immediately after selecting compressor for export, I get an error reading "That file already exists", and a new tab appears in the media browser with a lengthy character string. Compressor opens fine, and I select Best Quality 4:3 encoding for video and aiff48 for audio. When the batch is submitted - it promptly fails and blames FCP for generating an error.
Did all kinds of restarts and work arounds to no avail. The promising news is that this error seems to occur only when exporting from FCP through Compressor.
My work-around is to export a QT movie of the piece, quit FCP, launch Compressor, and then import the QT for batching.
Hope this helps anyone else in similar situations

    Hi:
    How long is your movie?
The best workflow is FCP > Compressor > DVDSP.
You can encode your timeline directly to get MPEG2 video and Dolby 2 (AC3) audio files. Then import those in DVDSP and author your DVD.
Using Compressor you control the full encoding process. You can test with small parts of your movie (those where you got problems with iDVD) and find the best encoding options fopr your footage.
Of course the DVDSP learning curve is longer than iDVD but once you learned ir you probably never go back. Like iMovie and FCP.
To give you detailed info about what encoding settings to use you must post some info about your FCP project.
    Hope that helps !

  • Problems exporting from FCPX

I can not export from FCPX. Get stuck on 95% and I give up after 45 min. It´s about 15 min fotage that I tried to export in Apple TV3 format.

I've had this issue weekly with a show I produce.  It bugs me for hours.  In my case, I have to wait until the entire timeline is rendered, and then I have to export it to ProRes 422.  Any other codec requires a re-render, which provokes the problem again.  The problem starts when I take a few clips from my P2 and use the stability function along with any color correction topping them off with titles.  It seems as though part of the rendering process involves re-analyzing the entire clip during rendering, and if I don't allow it to completely render the clips, I get missing video with graphics on top.  I have a 12-core machine with 16GB RAM, and yet it still takes about two hours to render my 30 minute show after I'm done.  This doesn't include the hours it takes to analyze the P2 clips as I import them, which also hinders me during editing and causes continual crashes.  I'm hoping this new update I'm about to run addresses some of those issues.

  • Problems exporting from Text From Final Cut

I'm having some troubles exporting from final cut. I'm trying to export uncompressed full quality version of a short we've finished editing. When I export it as a self contained, quicktime movie, the video looks great but any of the text in the film looks pixelated and bad.
I tried to export using the quicktime conversion option, but whenver I do that I end up with great looking text, but the video doesn't look right. I can't really describe it, but the edges of anything moving look a little off.
I've tried making the text in livetype and importing it, as well as useing the text generators in FCP, but they both yeild the same results when exporting the final product.
Some help please! I want good looking video, and good looking text in my exports!

  • Big problems exporting from Premiere Pro CS3

    Hey all.
Would be massively grateful if anyone here could help me out. I'm in the process of trying to export a 23 and a half minute project from Premiere Pro CS3. I've tried exporting to different formats, (Quicktime, MPEG2, etc..) but keep arriving at the same conclusion. The process will freeze midway through, and I'm greeted by the following error messages:
    "premiere pro debug event
premiere pro has encountered an error
    [..\..\Src\PPixHandleUtilities.cpp-114]"
    When I close that, another window pops up saying;
    "export error
application failed to return a video frame.
    cancelling the operation."
I'm not really sure where to go from here. Previously during the process of editing this project, I would occasionally get a message telling me that premiere pro was "running low on system memory". Fearing this to be the problem I was having while exporting, I attempted to export an extremely low quality version of the project, but arrived at the same conclusion. I also wondered if there was a corrupt frame or clip somewhere that was causing the issue, so I overlayed one whole transparent clip over the whole sequence and tried to export, but again, the same result.
I now have to put all my faith in you Adobe Wizards! Please ask me any questions that might help you to arrive at what may be causing the problem, I'll answer them the best I can
    Many thanks!

    >13.4GB free
    FAR too small !!!
The program itself uses more than that for temporary working files
Also, unless you already have a 2nd hard drive or eSata external, you are below specification
Trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
    Partition = Crash http://forums.adobe.com/thread/957286
I find that the three drives I use work very well for me, for editing AVCHD video... some people use a 4th drive, so video INPUT files are on drive three and all OUTPUT files are on drive four... I only bought a mid-tower case instead of a full tower case (my bad... but had to fit in the space available on my office desk!) so I use the three drives that will fit
Depending on your exact hardware (motherboard brand & model AND USB2 enclosure brand & model AND external hard drive brand & model) AND the type of video file, you may... or may NOT... be able to use an external USB2 hard drive for SD (Standard Definition) video editing
Steve Grisetti in the Premiere Elements forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856208 and Jim Simon in the Premiere Pro forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856433 use USB externals for editing
A USB3 hard drive connected to a motherboard with USB3 is supposed to be fast enough for video editing (I don't have such, so don't know) but eSata DOES have a fast enough data transfer for video editing... I have not used the eSata Dock below... for reference only, YMMV and all the usual disclaimers

  • Audio sync problem: exporting from FCP to Pro tools or soundtrack pro

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Final Cut Pro sound export for mastering.....sync problem
    Hey,
I'm editing a 30 minute film and I have done most of the sound edit in FCP and Soundtrack pro and I want to now bring all the sound into pro tools to master the sound but every time i export sound into pro tools it seems to stretch by two or three seconds.
I have tried OMF, AIFF, XML, and Quicktime audio file sut to no avail!!!!
There are 50 tracks in the file so it is quiet large. It's not that there are handles of the file also as when I sync the file with the audio track with the video it syncs in one place but it is still out of sync in another.........It's as if the audio has been stretched!?!
If anyone has any advice it'd be much appreciated
    Keith

Try mixing down the audio first. Sequence/Render Only/Audio mixdown.
You could even try exporting the audio with the Export QT movie command using "current settings" and reimport that file, Add that mixed down file to a copy of the sequence. If it syncs in FCP I'd think it will sync on export too.

  • Problems exporting from premiere pro cs6

    Heeeeeeeeeeeeelp please!
I downloaded my recent project from cs5.5 into a trial version of cs6 and now I'm getting an unknown error (problems compelling video) when I try to export my project (in H.264).
I tried shutting off the auto safe, exporting in a different format (quicktime), restarting offcause, removing effects from the clip where the export failes, even tried exporting without that particular clip, but then it just happened another place in the film at another clip.
I'm thinking there could be an export limit when you're only working with the trial, cause I have been able to export smaller bits of the timeline and as well other smaller projects. I'm a mac user and not that good at computers in general.
I can still export a early version of my project from cs5.5 but I would really love to detect the problem in stead of starting all over since it's my BA project and I'm on a deadline...
I really hope somebody know something helpfull

I been in this same situation for two weeks. First update your software to the latest update. Just released yesterday
I believe you have more than one clip. At the end and begining of the clip you should have little grey triangle shape. They are called handles, meaning extra space at end point and at begining. Usaually for transition. If you dont see it on both clips (as in picture) then the one clip which is misiing need to be trimed little or more until handles disappear or some time you see full triangle (as in picture). Do same if there are more. Then just try to export the ending where clips attach each other. Set in and out points as I did in the picture. Export and make sure to choose sequence in and out setting. here is the picture:
I hope it works. I dont use this software anymore. I had a trail version. Used for two weeks. Every day same problem then finally figured it out and moved back to Edius 6. Thanks

  • Audio Synch Problem Exporting From imovie 6

I have a created a large imovie project in imovie 6 using pictures and imported video.  The project uses a lot of extracted audio voice overs on top of the photos.
While trying to export the video to quicktime or idvd, the audio gets out of synch at various points.  I have tried exporting it many times using a variety of different options, and the audio remains out of synch, sometimes in different places with each export.  Lastly, I have extracted the audio from the video clips for some of the more problematic portions of the project, but that has not proven successful.
The odd thing is that the movie plays perfectly while in imovie.
Any suggestions as to how to correct this issue?

    Hi
    Tedious situation.
To avoid this I'm kind of strict in Audio in two ways
    A
    • Material used if video is in same frame per minute - else I use JES_Deinterlacer to convert all to one standard. I use PAL = 25fps - one of my Cameras records ONLY in 30fps - (some people records in 24fps - to get a movie feel - I never)
So keeping the fps from Camera to (in my cases) DVD - gives a supperior result
    B
    • I'm strict in the kind of Audio formats I use - ONLY .aiff (or from miniDV tape Cameras) AND THEN 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (still .aiff as on normal CDs) and here 44.1kHz
If Camera is set to record in LP-mode or 12-bit Audio - Then I use an external Audio Editor to get this right
If from iTunes - I never use this directly - BUT - collect needed audio into a New PlayList - BURN THIS as a Standard Audio-CD (NO .mp3 - but .aiff here too) and then use the files on this CD in my movie project's in iMovie HD6 or FinalCut any varsion (or if forced to - iMovie'11)
    Else read this
    Audio Sync problems
    • 12.bit - should be 16.-bit (from miniDV tape - set Camera right)
Avoid recording in LP-mode on miniDV tape. This tape must be play-backed by same Camera. When Camera dies
so does the video material in worst case.
    • .mp3, .avi etc strange file formats - should be converted to .aiff 48kHz 16-bit
    • in iMovie (up to HD6) - do - Extract Audio - it most often helps
    • from iTunes - collect into a PlayList then Export out as an Audio-CD (not .mp3) and use the files on this (.aiff 44.1kHz)
    • There seems to be a problem with slow-down resp speed-up. Has to be in specific steps as 25% 50% 150% 200%
    else problems will arise
    • Audio problems when transitions is in use - especially iMovie HD/HD6
    a. Select video clips
    b. Extract Audio (Advance menu/Extract Audio)
    c. Now apply transition
    d. eventually fine-tune end and start of extracted audio clips

  • Problem exporting 16:9 sequence

Hi everyone. I am trying to export a 16:9 sequence (tried both QT and QT conversion) but I'm getting a 4:3 result every time. Following Tom Wolsky's suggestion, I made sure the sequence is 16:9, to match my captured anamorphic footage. Is it possible that I need Quicktime Pro to be able to get the right, 16:9 aspect ratio for the exported file? If not, any other suggestions on what to do? Thank you for your help.

After much trial and error, I have figured this out.
Here is my 7-step guide to getting anamorphic 16:9 DV onto DVD through iDVD. There might be easier ways but I just couldn't find them... this one works...
    1. export anamorphic sequence with QT (without conversion) to desktop (it will look 4:3)
    2. download myDVDEdit from the internet (free)
    3. create new project with iDVD, and follow these myDVDEdit instructions:
    http://www.mydvdedit.com/viewtutorial.php?t=27e&pg=forum
    4. when you run into the challenge of trying to save the modified Video TS file, here is what to do about removing the 'read only':
    http://www.mydvdedit.com/viewtopic.php?t=53&pg=forum
    5. download LiquidCD from the internet (free)
    6. with LiquidCD, you can burn a DVD pointing to the modified Video TS folder
    7. end result: 16:9 great picture on DVD

  • Problems exporting from iphoto to SD card

    Hi
I'm trying to load up an 2gb SD card for a digital photo frame.
I think this problem is more to do with the sd card than the iphoto, but maybe someone knows the answer
I've exported the photos from iphoto and it says there is 600mbish of photos, but when I load it onto the sd card the sd card says that there isn't enough space when blatently it's saying that there is 1.87gb left on the bottom of the window.
    can anyone help?
    thanks
    victoria

    Victoria:
Here's a suggestion that might help the digital frame transition from one photo to another more smoothly and quickly:
1 - determine the pixel dimensions of the display area on the frame.
2 - put all of your photos to be used into a folder as Terence suggested.
3 - download and run Resize! on the folder to resize the photos to the frame's dimensions. Use the following settings:
Quality Level: I use 60%. IMO that's plenty for the resolution of the frame I have.
Box Resizing: Maximum width: width of frame
    Maximum height: height of frame
    4 - Click on Go.
This will create a new folder with the resized photos in it. You can rename that folder it will have the pixel dimensions attached to the folder name and copy it to the SD card. I found that this increases the smoothness and speed of the transitions between photos.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IDVD problem - exporting from  Final Cut Express

I'm have a problem with my iDVD that I am not sure how to fix. I created a movie in Final Cut Express...exported and burned a DVD in iDVD. I went back to that project in Final Cut and altered it...saving a new project. Then I try to open iDVD I get this pop up message that says it can't find Sequence 1-FIN-0000002f so the moive will not play properly. Seems that it is referencing the project that I burn previously. It gives me the option to search for the file or cancel. If I search I can't find it and if I cancel I get the spinning wheel...the program will not open. I'm new to working with Final Cut so I'm not sure but somehow I deleted a file that was embedded in the the first movie I created. It appears that when I open my video drive I have a Render File folder, in this folder are folders for all the projects I have created. I can locate the last project folder and see all the sequence files (all named like the one that was missing....Sequence1-FIN-0000002f) I just am not sure how I would have erased one of these rendered files. Is there a way for me to recreate a rendered file with this file name so the iDVD will recongize it or bypass this in iDVD so I can just open it and create something new? Any suggestion on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.....

Keep in mind you are working with QT Reference files. These files reference the movie files within your video editing app. If you opt to burn a DVD and then go back and alter these same ref. files then you confuse iDvd which normally requires that you delete the encoded assets and start again so iDvd can again recognize what you want in terms of a finished iDvd. Hope this helps but if not just come on back.
