Problem exporting Go Pro video, footage zoomed in

Hey ya'll.
I've done a lot of searching over the net to look at how to fix this problem and I've had no luck. I've made a montage video using a Go Pro Hero and when I go to export it the image is cropped/zoomed in. It looks perfect in the preview window though. I'm pretty inexperienced with Premiere; all I really know is that the sequence is in widescreen. I would really appreciate some help, if you need to know more project details just ask me/tell me how to find them out and I can do that.
Thanks!
-Matt

Once you've created a sequence you can't change the settings.
The simplest way to make a sequence that matches a source clip is to drag the clip to the New Item icon at the bottom of the project window - it'll make a new sequence that matches the clip, and automatically add it, though you can of course remove the clip again to leave you with an empty sequence.

The preview window is fit to size, so it sounds like shooternz is right. I've been searching the net though and I'm struggling to figure out how to match my sequence dimension settings with the source footage dimension settings. If these don't match and I've already created the sequence, is it to late to fix things or do I have to start over? If it is too late, would somebody please explain how to set up a sequence with with matching sequence/source footage dimension settings? How do I figure out my source settings?
I really appreciate your guys help, thank you!

  • Problem exporting Premiere Pro CS5.5 projects with still photos and h264 video

I'm a longtime Final Cut Pro user and evaluating Premiere Pro for my workplace before making the switch. I have been running into several problems when I try to export raw h264 video from a Canon 5D combined with still images on a Macbook Pro. Either I receive an error in Premiere Pro saying, "Error compiling movie. Unknown error." or Adobe Media Encoder appears to continue exporting (the time elapsed bar continues to move) even though the time remaining stays frozen once it hits a photo it doesn't like. It's not always the same photo.
I've spent several days trying to troubleshoot the issue, including batch resizing all photos to 1920 wide (to match the video settings), and it hasn't work. The sequence is currently set to render in ProRes 422. I've also tried HDV 1080p30 and MPEG-4. I cannot find any consistency with the errors. Occasionally an export will work, but every couple still photos will look like green static. I've also tried batch converting the photos in Photoshop to PNG and GIF without any luck. I'd include my default export settings but I've pretty much tried it all. I'm just trying to figure out what's causing the error since the message is very vague.
    Couple other notes:
There's plenty hard drive space available for export
I can export the DSLR video (h264, 1080p30) without still photos no problem
I can edit the same still photos and video in Final Cut with no problem
I have the same problem with auto-save on and off
I tried re-installing production premium, deleting the preference files and cleaning the media cache - no luck. I also tried exporting under a different user account and it wouldn't work.
This is driving absolutely crazy. I'm affraid to use PP on deadline because I don't see any issues until it's time to export. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks Todd. Your questions were actually very helpful. I'm using a Macbook Pro with an Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics card. I'm running OS 10.6.8 and have the latest updates installed.
When I disabled the GPU acceleration, I was able to render and export without a problem. The problem only occured when using the GPU acceleration and mixing h264 with still photos. It also affected both rendered previews and the final export. I'm assuming its a support issue with the graphics cards, but it would be great if you had any other ideas. I appreciate your help.

  • What are the best sequence settings in FCP 5 for exporting screen capture video footage?

I capture video footage of websites in order to showcase in a demo reel. Using Snapz Pro, the compression type I have found to have the best quality is H264. When I take this footage into FCP (v5.1.4), I choose DV NTSC 48khz for the sequence setting. If I then select H264 for the sequence compression type, when I go to render I get a 'Codec error.'
The only way I am able to render properly is by choosing DV NTSC 48khz for the sequence setting and DV/DVCPRO-NTSC as my sequence compression type. The problem with this though is I get a perfect picture in the Viewer, but the picture quality in the Canvas (and the subsequent exported video) is slightly blurred.
I've been trying to find a solution to this problem off and on for years. I've finally decided now to get to the bottom of the issue. If you can solve this one you are my hero!
    Ted

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried using DVCPRO HD in the past, but the picture quality of the captured screen footage turns out blurry. The only codecs I've found that provide a perfectly clear image are H264, Animation and Uncompressed 8-bit. The problem with the latter two is that video files lasting only a few seconds measure in the 100s of MBs. Working with files that large would slow my editing and rendering down to a non-workable length.
I just don't understand why I can't edit H264 video if my sequence codec is set to H264. The 'Codec error' I get is baffling.

  • Problems exporting Premiere Pro with SWFs in as .mov files.

    Hi,
I'm not the most competent with Premiere and am having a few problems exporting my final movie.
I am having problems with an animation (Screen size: 1024 x 576) I am producing; I've produced all the animation in Flash then exported the files as SWFS, and want to composite it in Premiere and export it as Quicktime Movie (H.264), as this seems to give the best image quality for the final movie. All the SWFs export from Flash and import into Premiere fine, and in the main the SWFs export fine from Premiere, however a few of the SWFs don't export into the final finished movie, leaving just a blank screen, and others only partially export, either stopping halfway through the shot or exporting with some of the layers from the SWF missing. I've tried re importing the files but I still encounter the same problems.
Can anyone shed any light onto where I may be going wrong and what I can do to get the entire movie to export fully? Or if there is a better way of exporting the files from Flash to a final finished movie?
If you need any other information let me know,
    Many thanks
    Josh

    Hmmm...
I did a quick test in your behalf with a test project with and without "alpha glow" applied to all of the media.
The results were actually kind of strange:
    - export to .mp4 utilized all cores (6-core box w/ Hyperthreads) with a smooth 82% utilization for the whole export; memory usage (also from task manager) went up and once it hit a maximum, it stayed there
    - export to .mp4 with "alpha glow" applied -> CPU usage started out pretty good, then memory usage maxed out and then actually cam down; after a bit, the CPU usage stabilized at around 22%, or about 25% of what it had been at the start of the export
Smells to me like an Adobe bug or design-flaw.
Anyway, good luck with your testing.
I totally agree with Bill's suggest to do a full PPBM7 test on your new rig and report the scores back here - and to the PPBM7 site of course. This will help you to have confidence in your new hardware and setup. Once your hardware and configuration (for Win7, drive caching, Premiere settings, etc.) are working fine, then your particular workflow, etc. can be a separate troubleshooting step.
    Good luck!
    Regards,
    Jim

  • Problems exporting mpeg 2 videos from a Mac

Can someone explain to me why when I'm trying to make and mpeg 2 video from Premiere Pro CS6 and using Media Encoder and when this open it begins to work but it freeze and doesn't complete the task? I thought it was my Blackmagic Intensity Pro but it has the latest updates. Thanks.

We'd need a bit more info to troubleshoot this, but here's a few things to check:
Is there enough space on the destination you're encoding to?
Do you have Multiplexing turned on?  If so, AME sometimes appears unresponsive during this phase.  If the freeze is happening after the encoding progress bar has completed, try an export with Multiplexing turned off and see if encoding completes.  If so, you may just need to wait a bit longer for  Multiplexing to finish.
Try exporting with GPU turned off, if it works the problem might be related to your video card
Try exporting directly out of Premiere, not thru AME

  • Problem with Mac Pro Video Playback Stutter

I just purchased a new Mac Pro (2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 6GB of Memory) and I'm having an issue with video playback. Whenever I play videos (in Quicktime, online, or in iTunes) the video will freeze briefly every few seconds, causing an annoying stutter that drives me crazy. Sometimes if I restart the computer the video will play normally, but not always. It is quite frustrating for me to have this issue, because I do a lot of video work and would also like to use the machine for watching movies on the Cinema Display I got with it.
Does anyone have any idea what might cause a problem like this? I got the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 card with 512 MB of VRAM. Thanks in advance for any help.

Comparison of GTX 285 amd 8800GT in Mac OS and Windows XP:
    http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=100785469&mpage=1&key=&#100785469
.... will be interesting to see if improved drives help close the gap but 20% (most of the time, drivers will show 5-10% at best in a single jump, in some apps).
Having looked at and used alternatives, helps gives me some perspective. I use to assume or think QuickTime was or must be "it" but there are other apps that can play back video with more finesse, more user control. Maybe why QuickTimeX is getting some buzz.
People will build PCs to run 3 x 285s in SLI and try to achieve 175 fps, output to HDTV or something for full 'immersion' field effect.

  • Problems exporting to MPEG 2- "footage needs to be rendered"

Hello...I am having an issue when I try to export my project as an MPEG-2 for DVD SP. The footage appears to be already rendered, but when I go to export, I get a message that says "Not Rendered: This movie mus bve rendered before it can be encoded."
So I go to Render again and there is seemingly nothing to render. There is no red on the timeline. But when I go to export, I get the same message. Can anyone help me out with this?

Red is not the only color that shows items needing to render in the timeline.
Have you selected...Sequence/Render Both...with all color coded items selected? I always also do an Audio Mixdown before exporting.

  • Problems exporting stills from video

ok so i have never had good luck exporting a still image from FCP. they always come out blurry. any tips would be awesome!

Pick a frame that has as little movement as possible. You may need to deinterlace in Photoshop. Keep in mind that if you're working with SD video, the resolution is pretty low compared to normal photographs.

  • I am having problems exporting my time lapses from quick time pro i need to save my files as photo jpegs but the standard video compression window will not open fully,

i am having problems exporting my time lapses from quick time pro i need to save my files as photo jpegs but the standard video compression window will not open fully, it just keeps my mac (old 1.6Ghz 2.5 GB sdram G5 still good for most stuff i need) spinning for ever but i can see compression type H.264 selected and the other setting but i can not select any other options as it still thinking but never opens! why is this happening how do i get round it?
my work flow is: 300 images shot on a 5d mark II medium jpegs opened in Light Room cropped to 16:9 then exported and opened in quick time i can save a .mov H264 giving me files sizes of 14 mb for a 16 second time lapse, mp4 9 mb. the only way i can get large files is saving as a self contained movie then i get 300mb files.
i need to save my files 1920 x 1080 photo jpeg codec as i want HD quality.
i am sure there is a simple way round this?
    thanks guys!

It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as each os has their own troubleshooting solutions.

  • Exporting a JPEG in 4:3 from video footage in Final Cut pro is impossible

I'm trying to export a screen grab from final cut pro as a jpg. It's easy to export a jpg image, but as far as I can tell, it is completely impossible to export it as a 4:3 aspect ratio image. My video footage is all 4:3 but all of the jpg images I try to export come out squished into 16:9. This is driving me crazy!
    Here is what I'm doing . . .
Export >Using Quicktime Conversion >Format (Still Image)
From their I've tried every setting you can imagine and FCP still obstinately refused to allow me to export a jpg image in it's true proportions.
    Please prove me wrong.

Awesome! You rock moblie! Thanks a lot for the info. I was wondering why the image proportions were correct in photoshop (ie. 720x480, I thought those were 4:3 dimensions, but I guess it's just resolution?). I adjusted the image in photoshop to be 720x534 pixels and it looks fine now.
I realize this isn't the smartest question in the world, but why isn't 720x480 a 4:3 aspect ratio? I don't really understand aspect ratio all that well (as you can tell).
    Thanks again!

  • Strange exporting problems from QT Pro

I have an odd problem that I hope someone can help me out with. Me and my partner run a video business. I do most of the editing and he does most of the graphics work. For 2 years now, we've had no problems exchanging and using each others files. He usually sends me QT files exported from either Adobe Premiere or After Effects. I also get a lot of photoshop files from him too. I usually import these files into my Avid, edit with them and export a final video. Never had a problem with any of his files before.
However, recently, when I use some of the photoshop files he sends me, after I edit with them and export a movie with mpeg-4 compression (from my Avid which uses QT components) I get black boxes all over the export, but only in the segments that use his new photoshop files. The rest of the export looks fine. He also recently gave me some edited video exported from his Premiere that I was going to convert using QT Pro. However when I convert to mpeg-4, I get the same black boxes. This time the source file he gave me was a video file, not a photoshop file but it was edited using a lot of Photoshop elements that he had created and edited with on his own system.
I have recently downloaded some updates including QT 7.6. So I thought that might have been the problem. But I just regressed back to 7.5.5 and the problem still exists. When I export my own footage or when I export old footage I have from him, everything is fine. But on certain new elements he gives me, I can not export to mpeg-4s. His source files look fine when I open them and play them and work in the Avid but once I export to mpeg-4 I get these issues.
Anyone have any idea why some elements that I am getting from him won't export correctly on my system? What may have changed that could cause this? This is kind of a big issue because we create a lot of content for mobile devices including Blackberries which prefer mpeg-4 video. So I need to figure this out. My partner hasn't changed or updated any software recently but there is some compatibility issue going on here.

I'm having the same issue as the original poster. I'm running the latest s/w (7.1.2) and I have removed all /Library/Quicktime items to the DT. I'm trying to export a .mpg file to Quicktime format.
The .mpg format is only playback supported by QT so it is usually best to use a third party MPEG based application like MPEG Streamclip (free) or ffmpegX (free) here if you wish to reatain audio content. If you still have a problem/are receiving an error message, then the problem could be with the file itself. Owing to its popularity, non-standard nature, and timecode sensitivity, such files are frequently corrupt -- especially when downloaded from peer-to-peer sources.

  • Exporting problem with premiere pro

Hi again everyone.  This time Im having a problem exporting out of Premiere Pro.  I have noticed it trying 2 different applications.
1st, when I get the error saying that my video is to big to fit on a dvd, I go back and select SETTINGS and normally downsize it, however,
when I tried to do that after I selected SETTINGS, the program froze up and wherever I clicked it just beeped, even if I tried to close
Premiere.  It does the same thing when I try to Export with ADOBE MEDIA ENCODER.  Thats what I use to render video for youtube and
    such.
I don't recall making any changes to any settings that would cause these problems.  Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Tonya

already did that, its the only way to get it going again.  Have rebooted multiple times.  Its
almost as if the window should be coming up, but isn't, it just freezes the rest of the program
Im really afraid to uninstall and reinstall the whole program, because someone else helped me
set it up and I don't know if Id get all the setting right again.

  • Problem exporting in Premiere Pro

I have recently installed CS4 and I'm having problems exporting my files. The video media encoder opens up with the files in the list but the source name is looking to the wrong place so cannot start the job and I cannot work out how to change it.
I can change the export file option. I'm sure there must be a simple answer.
Can anyone help I have just reinstalled Premiere Pro CS3 in desperation!!

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
Actually my point was more that learning the basics of video production is reeeeeally a good idea before trying to use professional software... First learn, then do.  Don't try and skip step one and then expect us to fill in the gaps.
Many of the consumer-oriented NLE programs have greater latitude for file formats/CODEC's, especially the "consumer-oriented" formats/CODEC's.
    Jim/Hunt,
Yes, I do agree with both of you that the concept of video editing needs to be learned first, not just buy Premiere thinking you can slap a movie together, then scream out how to do "this one thing" (those who do don't realize there's 129 other "things" that follow behind). When I bought Premiere for my 5D2, I spent a solid month reading and watching tutorials about VIDEO, inhaling all I could about timebase and color spaces and NTSC standards and data rates and compression and i vs. p and frame rates and... you get the idea. After THAT is when I watched 21 hours of Premiere video training, and it all made sense (imagine that). So I understand the frustration when someone asks a question that shows they haven't built the foundation under the house. Maybe it's better to tell them what you told me, that they've bitten off more than they can chew, but encourage them to go learn the foundations. Hmmm, I have to admit, that seems so huge that in order to get the immediate task done they should probably... just fire up a consumer app. OK, you're vindicated!
I would suggest to all newcombers (and even the girl who started the thread) that you spend $25 for a one-month subscription at Lynda.com, and start with this set of training:  http://www.lynda.com/home/DisplayCourseN.aspx?lpk2=152
There should be enough time left in the month to then go through the Lynda.com Premiere courses. Then they can get the Pr Classroom in a Book and also move on to Adobe.tv, and if by the end of that they are still struggling, maybe cuttin' frames isn't for them, at least on a pro level.
Last thought: I know Photoshop inside and out, and when I hear people buy the real McCoy and then state that they'll just open it up and dink around and figure it out, my laughter sometimes hits hyperventilation stage.
