Problem exporting Illustrator gradient images into Indesign.

I created and overlapped 3 gradient images in Illustrator cs6 and saved @ an eps file.  When imported into Indesign thin white lines appear where the images overlap.  How to fix?

Thanx Kris -
I saved file @ a pdf and it exported perfectly.
Will also try your suggestion.

    I have created a restaurant menu in Illustrator and want to import it into Indesign with the ability to make changes to text and other formating. As it is, it is importing a pdf file which I can do nothing with, If I copy and paste the Illustrator file, I get non-formatted text and no graphics.
    What is the solution or is this possible to do? I thought these two were supposed to work together. Hmmmm

    Diane How is a waste of time to learn?
    Had you originally set up you menu in ID you could edit it in ID, by placing individual pages made in Illustrator you now have to edit them in Illustrator. as soon as the file is saved it will be updated in ID.
    instead of thinking that this forum is a waste of time you would be better served learning how to use the tools you have to their best advantage instead of criticizing a very knowledgeable person who did a nice job of explaining the relationship of the tools you use.

  • Problems installing Illustrator CC (2014) and InDesign CC (2014) on OS X Yosemite

    I'm currently having problems installing Illustrator CC (2014) and InDesign CC (2014) on OS X Yosemite. Both applications fail with the message "Installation Failed: The download appears corrupted. Please try again after a few minutes.(-60)".
    I've tried uninstalling Illustrator CC and InDesign CC and then reinstalling, but still get the same error message. Other applications in Creative Cloud all install without issues.
    Has anyone else experienced this issue and resolved it please?

    Sorry for the slow response. My Mac wouldn't boot following a failed Yosemite update. I've since reinstalled Yosemite but the exact same problem persists. My Mac is standalone and not on a managed network.
    Thank you for the troubleshooting link. I've tried the recommended fix for the -60 error but it doesn't appear to be possible to download the trial version of Illustrator or InDesign for CC editions. They just trigger the Creative Cloud installer and shortly after the -60 error again.
    The problem is still specific to Illustrator and InDesign and I've tried uninstalling all Creative Cloud applications and reinstalling. Every reinstalls except InDesign and Illustrator.

  • How to import an image into indesign?

    how do i import an image from google images into indesign and then use as a background like a watermark?

    Save it out of Google Images to your hard drive. It'll probably be a JPEG file. Choose File > Place to place the image. To use it as a watermark, it will have to be on a lower layer or lower in the stacking order than other objects on the page.
    It sounds like you could use some help learning InDesign. I highly recommend Sandee Cohen's Visual QuickStart Guide, which is available for every version of InDesign. It's inexpensive and will save a lot of time learning the program:

  • Problem with imported images into Indesign

    I have scanned a book as a one bit (B & W) 600 dpi document. I have imported the document into Indesign as i need to integrate some decsreened pics in. I then export the finished document as a press ready PDF and the image virtually disappears off the page and what is left is very distorted. the type is twice as high and about five times wider than the original image.
    I have contacted the scanner company and of course they put the issue with the exporting to the PDF.
    Can anybody help??

    This is bug #2960217 filed by me in September, relating to Indexed over Gray colorspace, also with a Fujitsu Scansnap S1500M.
    The scanner that i have used is a Fujitsu Scansnap S1500M.
    In short, don't use it in Grayscale (Or BW, I guess) modes. Use it in Color, or make sure to process the iamge in another app (like Photoshop) and save
    it with a normal colorspace.

  • Exporting Illustrator CC files into Photoshop

    I can't seem to export my Illustrator CC files into Photoshop and keep the edges of things sharp and yet still preserve layers. I'm doing the same thing I did with my old CS4: FILE > EXPORT, then specifying CMKY and "write layers" and no anti-alias. But it's blurring. Help!

    I run Windows 7 Ultimate, I have 2.00GB of RAM with 1.74 usable, and I selected 40 images, each about 2MB.

  • Problems with pasting arabic text into indesign

    HI,
    I am trying to cut and paste arabic text from Word 2007 to indesign ( ENGLISH) CS4
    this is the text from word
    This is the text when i paste it into indesign
    They look completely different!
    No clue why
    I have installed the arabic keyboard onto the computer
    I have installed the arabic font from adobe
    I have installed the script to switch text from left to right --right to left (I found that script here
    http://indesignsecrets.com/free-script-for-hebrew-or-arabic-text-in-regular-version-of-ind esign.php)
    but I am getting the same problem
    any suggestions!!
    thanks

    Pre-CS4 I would either change the glyph order and the individual glyphs by hand -- for *extremely* short string only --, or simply print the original file (which is usually Word) to a PDF and place that as an image.
    Jongware's method is the best easy way to achieve this (placing the PDF file, I mean - manually hunting for medial glyphs is something I'd only suggest for those who have some demonstrated familiarity with the script in question). If your client insists that you not use a placed PDF for complex-script languages ("The Arabic is a picture, and I can't change the color of the text! Please send me something editable.") and you have no ME tools, you can open up that PDF, save out an EPS file, and in the "Settings" button in Acrobat you can find the "convert all fonts to outlines," save, open up the EPS in AI, copy the handily outlined AR text, and paste that into InDesign. It doesn't work perfectly, but it will do in a pinch.

  • Problem in saving the image into SQL database..

    Hello,
    In my application I have to save image file (say jpg) into the database and retrieve back and display it on the applet. I am through with grabbing the pixels of the image & sending the pixel array to the servlet but I am struck in how to store the image into the database and retrieve the same.
    Can anybody please help me in this regard... its really urgent...
    Thanks in advance
    Swarna

    Hello.
    I've been researching this problem (saving images in a MySQL database) in order to accomplish a task I was assigned to. Finally I was able to do it. I'd be glad if it will be of any use.
    First of all: the original question was related to an applet. So, the post from rkippen should be read. It says almost everything, leaving the code job for us. Since I managed to write some code, I'll put it here, but I'm not dealing with the byte transferring issue.
    To obtain a byte array from a file I'd open the file with FileInputStream and use a loop to read bytes from it and save them into a ByteArrayOutputStream object. The ByteArrayOutputStream class has a method named toByteArray() which returns an array of bytes (byte [] b = baos.toByteArray()) that can be transferred in a socket connection, as said by rkippen.
    My problem was to save an image captured by a web camera. I had an Image object, which I converted into a byte array and saved into the database. Eventually I had to read the image and show it to the user.
    The table in the MySQL database could be:
    CREATE TABLE  test (
      id int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment,
      img blob NOT NULL,
      PRIMARY KEY  (id)
    )I had problems trying to use the setBlob and getBlob methods in the Statement object, so I used the setBytes and getBytes methods . In the end, I liked these methods most because they where more suitable to my application.
    The database operations are:
        public int insertImage(Image image) throws SQLException {
            int id = -1;
            String sql = "insert into test (img) values (?)\n";
            PreparedStatement ps = this.getStatement(sql);  // this method is trivial
            byte [] bytes = this.getBytes(imagem); // * see below
            ps.setBytes(1, bytes);
            ps.executeUpdate();
            id = ps.getGeneratedKeys().getInt(0); //Actually I couldn't make this line work yet.
            return id;
        public Image selectImage(int id) throws SQLException {
            Image img = null;
            String sql = "select img from test where id = ?\n";
            PreparedStatement ps = getStatement(sql);
            ps.setInt(1, id);
            ResultSet rs = ps.executeQuery();
            if (rs.next()) {
                byte [] bytes = rs.getBytes(1);
                img = this.getImage(bytes); // * see below
            return img;
        }* If the bytes are read directly from a file, I think it is not necessary to convert it into an Image. Just send the bytes to the database method would work. On the other hand, if the image read form the DB will be written directly into files, the bytes obtained from rs.getBytes(1) would be enough.
    The image operations are:
        public byte [] getBytes(Image image) {
            ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
            try {
                ImageIO.write(this.getBufferedImage(image), "JPEG", baos);
            } catch (IOException ex) {
                throw new RuntimeException(ex);
            return baos.toByteArray();
        public Image getImage(byte [] bytes)  {
            Image image = null;
            ByteArrayInputStream bais = new ByteArrayInputStream(bytes);
            try {
                image = ImageIO.read(bais);
            } catch (IOException ex) {
                throw new RuntimeException(ex);
            return image;
        public BufferedImage getBufferedImage(Image image) {
            int width = image.getWidth(null);
            int height = image.getHeight(null);
            BufferedImage bi = new BufferedImage(width, height, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
            Graphics2D g2d = bi.createGraphics();
            g2d.drawImage(image, 0, 0, null);
            return bi;
        }That's it. I hope it is useful.

    Can any1 help me plzzzz??? Would appreciate any kind of help.
    Thanks in advance.

    I would guess that this is because of the way you try to read the file contents. Maybe you should add some debug statements to find out what you're realling setting as content. It's certainly not KM's fault.
    The following sequence of statements looks wrong:
    nt len = (int) f.length();
    byte a[] = new byte[len];
    FileInputStream fin = new FileInputStream(f);
    fin.read(a);
    String FileContent = a.toString();
    IPortalComponentRequest request =
    (IPortalComponentRequest) this.getRequest();
    com.sapportals.portal.security.usermanagement.IUser user =
    (com.sapportals.portal.security.usermanagement.IUser) request.getUser().getUser();
    IResourceFactory factory = ResourceFactory.getInstance();
    IResourceContext context = new ResourceContext(user);
    RID rid = RID.getRID("/documents/test");
    IResource resource = factory.getResource(rid, context);
    if (resource != null) {
    ICollection parent =
    (ICollection) ResourceFactory
    .getInstance()
    .getResource(
    rid,
    context);
    String out = new String(FileContent);
    ByteArrayInputStream data =
    new ByteArrayInputStream(out.getBytes());
    IContent content =
    new Content(data, "text/html", data.available());
    Why don't you just pass the FileInputStream into the Content object's constructor???

  • Image problems importing Illustrator 10 file into Flash MX.

    Hello,
    I'm working on my portfolio and want to import an Illustrator
    (version 10) file into Flash (Flash MX). The problem I'm having is
    that when I import the Illustrator file into Flash, it comes out
    looking blurred. I tried exporting the Illustrator file into
    Photoshop and saving it as a JPEG, PNG, and TIFF (in each file
    format, changing the image size to 72 dpi) and I still get the same
    blurred result. I also tried saving the file for web, in
    Illustrator (in JPEG and PNG formats) with no success as well.
    The Illustrator file is a small collage of my graphic design
    work (where I pasted graphic work done in Illustraor and made
    clipping masks to collage them together), so I'm not sure if
    bringing these files together maybe causing some technical issue or
    is importing Illustrator files into Flash just something that will
    always appear blurred. If so, is there a way I can bring the file
    into Photoshop and work with it where I can import it without the
    blurred appearance?
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    We have multiple request to add support for externally linked files and certainly see the value. There also are a couple third party solutions that offer linked file behavior (I'm not sure what versions of Ps they work with). You can see and add to the request (and find the third party solutions) here:

  • Trouble placing Ai images into InDesign

    Have been sent jpgs of Google maps. Have marked out a number of things in different layers in Ai. When I place the ai file into ID the images become all pixelated. If i "fill frame proportionally" the pixelation disappears but the image is so small you can't any of the markings in the image. HELP very confused. Have tried saving in a number of different formats but the same thing happens. If I place the image without the markings directly into ID there is no problem. What am I doing wrong.

    InDesign generated a low-resolution preview when you place the Illustrator file. Either accept it or turn of High Resolution Display in the View menu.

  • Problem Exporting Book to .EPUB from InDesign CS4

    I am creating an .EPUB book with InDesign CS4. The problem I am having is when I export. I have created a book file separating all me sections into separate InDesign  files (Cover, Title Page, Chapter 1, ect.). Once I have set it all up I export and the .EPUB and the document is incomplete. I can see the exverything up till the end of chapter 1. Then there is a blank gap until the couple end pages. It basically leaves out the whole body of the book. I separated the chapters so that I could create the navigation bar for the .EPUB. Is there something I am forgeting to do for this to happen. Thoughts? Suggestions?

    I am having the exact same problem.  When exporting a book from CS4 only the TOC and the first Chapter or section export correctly.  Inside the epub file everything seems configured correctly but all the chapter or sections after the first are xhtml files without any content, just the initial structure of an ordinary xhtml file.
    Anyone have any answers to this?  If we can't get the export from book option working it basically makes InDesign useless for Epubbing things.  Which makes me think this isn't a common problem or if it is there is a solution.
    Help!
    Oh, and I am using the ME edition of CS4 in case that matters, though I don't see that it should.

  • Is there a way to drop an image into indesign and then have that file name captioned underneath?

    Hello! I'm looking to help a colleague into streamlining a process. We have to display images full page in an Indesign Document and every time we drop and image onto a page, we then need to edit the caption underneath with the file name. Just wondering if there is a way to automate this process? Any scripts available?

    When you place an image you can turn on the capture function. There are normal and live versions. The normal labeling creates a text as text is, the live version creates a variable which would change if the image or the text in the meta information changes, but it behaves like a single character which causes problems how the text will run in the text frame.
    What is drawn out of the Meta must be set up before in the caption set up option.
    When you drag and drop an image from the finder or from Bridge you can't activate this option.
    BTW I use it a different way which seems to me faster. I assign a shortcut to the labeling command and when I have imported the image, I click this shortcut and in a second step I apply an Object style which will format the text frame including Paragraph style which might be different on a dark or bright photo or upon a graphic.
    Normally I edit all meta information in Adobe Bridge, which is the fastest way to handle it.

  • Problems exporting an edited image to iMovie

    When I edit an image, and then export it to use in Imove, all of the stacked versions go into Imovie.  How do I solve this problem. (I have 'unstacked' the versions in Aperture.

    What you say is happening is hard to follow. If you export a version from Aperture a single file of the  type spesified in the export ipreset s created from the version, JPG, TIFF, whatever.
    When exporting a version stacks have no bearing on the outcome. A version can be part of a stack but when exported (unless the stack was selected) only that one version is made into an external file.
    So  what format and export preset are you using? When the image is exported and you look at the file with preview before you import that file into iMovie what do you see?
    How are you actually doing the export? Léonie asked you  but your answer was vague. You wrote back that you were exporting the version as described but Léonie described three different ways to export.
    If you could respond to these questions we might be able to clear up the problem.
