Problem exporting iMovie 5.0.2 to VHS

using Formac Studio tvr I have successfully exported to VHS with previous versions of iMovie - not with iMovie 5.0.2. It crashes every time I get to the "Share" (previously called "Export")stage. I have followed all the procedures used previously, but have now upgraded to OS10.4.3 and iMovie 5.0.2. Has anyone any thoughts on where the problem might lie? i.e. the OS or the iMovie version?

I had a same problem with using quick time 7.03 on my iMac G4 Flat using 10.4 Tiger as well , but fixed when I changed back to Qiucktime 7.01. I think that It was Quicktime 7.03 bug. You can downloard from Apple for 7.01.
However, with a new release ,I am not sure about Quicktime 7.04 yet.
Hope this helps you.

If my camcorder records in 1080i, will i have any problems exporting my movie in imovie as 1080p? I read something about interlacing or deinterlacing?
I also have another question. I can't find an external blu-ray burner for a mac anywhere. How to I simply watch my exported 1080p movie edited in imovie on my hd tv? Apple tv only supports 720p correct? I read that the simplest way to watch it would be to save it on a flash drive then use a playstation 3 to watch the movie. Does anyone else have any other ideas? Thanks in advance

For 1080p via iMovie '11, just remember to optimize video for “Full – Original Size”.
The latest Apple TV supports HD.
I've seen low cost Blu-Ray DVD players for less than USD$100.00. I've also seen reasonably priced external BR for Mac...try OWC, as one example.

  • Unable to Export iMovie project in everyway I have attempted for the past 2 weeks. Please Help! Due date coming up!

I've unable to Export iMovie project in everyway I have attempted for the past 2 weeks.I have a late 2012 iMac with 8gb of RAM and 700 gb of free space on the hard drive. The video I am trying to export is 48 mins long with most of the source footage from a NIkon D3100 and several other cammcorders. I've been exporting with Apple Intermediate codec because that was the only one that has work so far but it only worked once and since then I have had to make changes to the project and now I'm unable to get it to work. For all Quicktime exports in H.264 or AIC (my prefered format for this export since I figured it'd offer the highest quality when I import it into Encore for making a dvd out of it) Which just stops exporting in the last few minutes without explination as to why or it crashes and quits. It either leaves a partial file or nothing at all. When I do "export movie" I get a "not enough memory Heap zone error"
I don't know what to do any help would be greatly appreciated!
By the way I happen to have Adobe CS6 Production Premium but didn't know how to use it as well when starting the project and now really regret not using it because it appears to be 10x more stable and capable of handling all the tasks I want it to do.

Are your event clips in h.264? If so, you can solve this by Right clicking on your Event Name and choose "Optimize Media". You can choose Full for 1080P or Large for 960P according to your preference.
After you have optimized your Event, you should be able to Share with no problem.

-108 mean you are running out of (free) RAM.
Try restarting the computer just prior to sharing. That frees up RAM.

    Final Entry
Ok - after much cutting, trial and error and days of work I have never really established a root cause for the -108 error. Nothing I did resolved the issue to the orginal project.
The only work around I have found is to split the Original Project into two.
What I found was that anything around the 60 mins mark and above just failed to render in HD and showed the -108 error.
What worked for me was creating two project files - one around 57mins long - the other a part 2 - around 17 mins long. All using exactly the same source clips, photo's, music and transitions as the orginal.
This now works. I guess having it split in two makes it a little easier to work with as I wont have to keep rendering the first part which does not change but really wish Apple would throw some light on this.
Anyway - I hope all of the above at least proves useful for others.
    Good Luck

  • Exported iMovie audio out of sync by 1-2 secs?

    Hello,
I actually have two questions that are sort of related (both dealing with odd audio glitches in the final exported iMovie):
I just completed piecing together about 30 clips into a 55-minute movie. While I was watching the movie last night with my wife, I noticed that about halfway through something happened to the audio track and it was now about 1-2 seconds ahead of the video track (so, my wife would say something and 1-2 seconds later her lips would move...or you'd hear the car accelerate while the video of the car is standing still, and then the video would show the car accelerating about 1-2 seconds later). Any idea why this happened and how to fix it?
Also, I went through the wave forms of all of the audio and reduced the volume to zero on audio portions that I didn't want in the final video (eg: certain people talking that I didn't want in the video). When I played the individual clip within iMovie, the zero-volume segment was perfectly in sync with the video. However, when I watched the main exported movie (that I mentioned above), the zero-volume section shifted. For instance, say that somebody on the video said the phrase, "Humpty Dumpty had a great fall". And let's say I found that section of audio and muted the words "Humpty Dumpty", but left the volume at normal level for "had a great fall". When I watched the final exported iMovie, the muted "window" (let's call it) shifted and I'd hear just "Humpty Dumpty...............fall"...iMovie somehow shifted the location of the zero-volume section to mute audio that I actually wanted, and allow audio that I didn't.
Any ideas on either/both of these issues?
I was wondering if, since I adjusted certain audio portions of all 30 film clips within the main movie, should I have exported all 38 clips seperately to "lock down" their audio. Then put them all back into iMovie and created the master movie from there. Would that make a difference?
    Thanks,
    Justin
    P.S. I'm using iMovie '11 (9.0.4)

I have the same type of problem; same version of iMovie. Got my project done, it was perfect. Uploaded it to YouTube and MobileMe, both have the audio a bit behind the video. Went back to my project, and it is off now, too.
I have no idea how to fix this, but my presentation is due in a few days. Help.

  • Problem with iMovie iPod Touch 4G

    Hey
I just bought my new iPod touch 4G 32 GB and I'm happy. There's just one problem with iMovie:
If i change the background music (use a song from my library or another theme song) and export the video, there is just music on the left speaker (on iPod and on pc). So the right one doesn't do anything. But if I play my video in the iMovie app (without exporting it) there is no problem with the sound - left and right speaker are working.
I don't know what to do now. I resetted my iPod, Reinstalled iOS 4.1 and iMovie itself an the problem is still there...
    Please help
    Lowista

I'm having the same problem with the audio stuck in the left speaker after exporting from iMovie. Also, how come the video stabilization is so poor? It's impossible to walk and shoot video at the same time with the iPod Touch. I get better results with video stabilization on my old 1995 JVC camcorder! Come on, Apple. I expected better than this.

  • Flip Video camera & problems with iMovie 08

If you are having problems with iMovie and Flip Video, here is the Flip Video email response on 27 May 2008:
    Hello,
    Thank you for your response.
We are not authorized to support third party applications, which is why we do not provide specific instructions regarding iMovie or any other third party application. We only support the Flip and the Flip program, while offering suggestions regarding other programs.
The Apple website also offers Perian as a workaround regarding audio on the Tiger operating system with the latest QuickTime. The latest QuickTime upgrade didn’t allow for audio playback of AVI files, which is why Perian is now offered as a work around by us and by Apple.
It seems as though you are able to playback your videos, as well as use them in outside applications. If this is not the case, and you are having issues using your Flip video or your Flip video program, feel free to contact us further.

This is my email to Flip Video on 26 May 2008:
My MAC Updater downloaded the new QT 7.4.5 on 5 Apr 2008. I have been making movies in iMovie, and then posting them to YouTube. In the beginning I uploaded the movies as MOV files but soon discovered AVI files (larger file and longer time to upload) had more clarity when viewed on YouTube. Once the new QT 7.4.5 downloaded all my AVI files had picture, but no sound! I downloaded the Perian component as posted in QT discussions. The sound returned to the AVI files. However, when I Exported an AVI movie from iMovie the picture quality was worse than the MOV movie. There is something wrong with the new QT 7.4.5 when working with AVI, my AVI movies look terrible. These AVI files were all downloaded from my Ultra Flip Video camera with Flip’s codec 3vix. Flip is aware of this problem and acknowledged it last Friday. Flip says Apple is aware of the problem.
My MAC PowerPc G4 has performed well in the past two months when working with the Flip Video camera. So, at Flip Video’s suggestion I upgraded the operating system to OS 10.5 from OS 10.4.11. Flip Video says their camera works with OS 10.5. Once OS 10.5 was uploaded I soon discovered that iMovie 08 would not operate on my PowerPc G4, 1.86 MHz. The speed requirement for iMovie 08 is 1.9 GHz.
At this point of “spinning my wheels for nearly a month” with this Flip Video camera, I decided to purchase a new iMac. On May 2, 2008, I walked out of the Apple Store in Walnut Creek with the new iMac 20-inch: 2.66GHz. Now the Flip video camera should work and all my video problems solved. However, this was not to be.
When I attempted to Import Flip Video AVI and MOV files into iMovie 08 the files were “grayed out” and would not Import. None of my previous Flip Video files would Import. I tried making new Flip Video movies, they also would not Import into iMovie 08.
At another Apple Store, the tech suggested I download the previous version of iMovie HD. I did this and with hours of working through the different Export options I was able to create movies to post again on youTube. However, the picture quality of the newer iMovies has never approached the quality of my last post before QT 7.4.5 downloaded. Remember my problems started with QT 7.4.5. Well, my new iMac came with QT 7.4.1, I have not Uploaded QT 7.4.5 and won’t until Flip Video fixes this problem.
Examples of my Flip Video movies can be viewed on youTube at: sffoggydays. The last video with excellent picture quality was posted 6 Apr 2008 titled “A Day at the San Francisco Zoo, Chapter Nine, L-Taravel Ride to BART.” This video was made in iMovie and Exported before QT 7.4.5 downloaded. All the youTube Flip Videos made after 6 Apr 2008 have poor picture quality.
It is time for Flip Video camera to stop “passing the buck” to Apple. When manufactures of operating system such as Apple and Microsoft create newer and upgraded systems, it is the responsibility of the manufactures of applications to redo their programs for operating on the new systems. Here is where Flip Video is not accepting this responsibility to Mac users of their camera. The Flip Video application/codex/drivers need to be updated in order to fix the following problems:
    - No sound on AVI files in QT 7.4.5
    - No Import of AVI and MOV files in iMovie 08
    - Poor picture quality for youTube in Export of iMovie HD
I like my Flip Video camera, want to continue making movies for youTube, and recommending the camera to others. The Flip Video camera people need to fix these problems for Mac users.

    Hi!
    I agree 100%!
I also purchased the Flip Video - was thrilled to see that they worked with Apple computers. I made several movies with it when I had my PowerBook G4. I went on a great vacation & took several once in a lifetime videos. Got home & couldn't wait to put them in my iMoive -06, burn them on my iDVD and sent them to several family members & friends. Before I got the chance, I had my system updater tell me that there was a new version to QT. GREAT, I thought, just in time for my vacation videos. Like you, after the QuickTime upgrade, I got video, but no sound. I was SICK about it! I also wrote to the Flip people & got a response somewhat like yours. I left the videos on my Flip which left no room for any others, but I didn't want to take the chance of losing them. After reading from Flip that it would work with OS 10.5 system, I talked myself into getting a new MacBook Pro. Came with all the upgrades iLife -08 and the OS 10.5.2 OK...finally, after months of stressing over losing the vacation videos, I had all I needed to save them! Of course the $2,000.00 price tag hurt a bit, but I deserve a new computer.
Well...I STILL can't get my priceless vacation videos edited and burned! I tried downloading 2 different programs that were supposed to help convert my Flip movies to something that would work, but they haven't. I could get it to work on my desktop with QT, but what good is that?? I want to make DVD's to send to others & save for my grandkids (if I ever am lucky enough to get some!)
I'm TOTALLY disgusted & feel I've wasted my money on the Flip Camera (that at one time I loved & was seriously considering giving them as gifts) the $2,000.00 on a new computer (that even though I do deserve, didn't REALLY need one yet!) AND I still have vacation videos that I can't share!
So... I agree! Flip should honor their word that is printed on the box & MAKE it work with all Apple computers. Surely they can find a fix!
TOTALLY disgusted with the whole FLIP/APPLE mess!
Oh, Flip also said they 'heard' that QuickTime Pro would work with iMovie -08 - although they haven't actually tested it themselves. NO THANKS!!! I've got WAY too much money invested in this stupid Flip camera!

  • Mac Mini crashes when exporting imovie projects

    Hi.
When I try to export imovie projects, my Mac Mini crashes. Not ever, just every two or three times.
My system is 10.6.7 and imovie is 11. Can anyone help me? Thanks, I apologize for my bad English

    Thank you, I'll try!
I hope you're right, because is boring to see out of the blue all the screen getting grey and the window that invites you to reboot, without hope... It happens, for example, after two or three succesful exporting projects, then I reboot and go on for another two or three projects and then again... I'm afraid it's a RAM problem, but I'll try to update system and software.
    Thank you again

  • Export iMovie to Quicktime - too long?

I have an iMovie project that is pretty long and detailed with titles, music, etc. (length: 1:00:26:17). It is currently very choppy, the audio is clear, but the visual lags behind. I think this is simply because iMovie is just not built to handle this length and complexity. I would like to export this project as it is, with no further editing, to Quicktime. I plan to create a second iMovie project, then export that to Quicktime. Then I will take both Quicktime files and import them back into a 3rd iMovie project so I can combine the two movies into one bigger one and eventually move over to iDVD. My question is: Since my current iMovie project is choppy and does not play with fluidity, is there going to be a problem exporting to Quicktime?

The playback issue could be hard drive space. Do you have lots, at least 25GB free? Why not just go ahead and try the export and see how it comes out?

  • Imovie choppy when importing a vhs tape, stops importing every few seconds

Hi, I'm importing a bunch of homemovies into imovie for a christmas present for my parents and I've run into a few problems. I've successfully done several vhs tapes using my powerbook, a new sony vcr and a dac-100, but for some reason I am having trouble with this tape. It imported fine for about 40 minutes and then it started showing static. Every few seconds static would fill the screen and imovie would stop importing and cut that part out completely, including audio. When I watched the tape on TV it had the same static but you could still hear all of the audio. Anyway, since the static is probably a problem with the tape, I just want to figure out if there's a way that i could get imovie to import straight through the static so you can at least hear the audio smoothly?
If that's not explained very well let me know, or I can provide more detail. I'm new at this, so if anyone can help me I would really really appreciate it. Thanks!
    Powerbook G4

    Hi jag7423:
You probably won't be able to seperate the static from the audio but you can try. Import the video and then select Advanced / Extract Audio. Then delete the video and see if the static noise remains.
Like I said it is probably a long shot.
SoundSoap is a program that helps reduce some background noises but i don't know if it will help here.

  • White circle of light in center of exported iMovie projects?

I made a few iMovie projects today. I've never had any problems with it.
First project made was entered as video data from a sony camcorder (Hi8.) It exported fine.
But because the quality was so bad (coming from old tape) I bought a new HD Digital Camcorder (JVC GZE-306BUS.)
After entering the new data from it into iMovie, it edited fine and there were no visible problems.
However...After exporting the new file, it contained a circle of white light in the center of the entire .mov file.
I deleted it and re-entered the info.
Made a new project and again, no problems within imovie. But when exported, same white dots in the center of the files.
I deleted and re-started the Mac again.
This time I exported a small file made some time back containing no new footage and this time, it did the very same thing.
    White dot in the middle.
I suppose it COULD be an iMovie issue but it seems odd that before connecting the new camera, it worked fine (exporting files this morning). Thenafter the afternoon addition, white dots in the middle of all exported files.
Has anyone ever experienced this issue? Any advice?
Will attach a screen cap of a solid black iMovie generated Title page in the file (for clarity's sake). Each and every frame contains the same. It almost looks like an out of focus moon or street light in the sky, but it obviously isn't.
Thanks for any advice/suggestions you can give. Have a project due by 9am (PST) on Weds. 11/20.

I took it to the GB today and they upgraded my iMovie to 11.
I deleted Quicktime and installed a new QT player.
I called JVC and they said no program uploads from the camera into a Mac.
After building a new test project to see if the problem was fixed...
    Here's what we got...
Screen cap (above) from the file shared to itunes.
Screen cap above from the file shared to Quicktime.
The Genius (and no one in the Mac store) had ever seen/heard of the issue and there seem to be no other mentions of this anywhere.
    Recap:
    1. Exporting to .mov (iMovie 08 on a MacBook '08) has worked fine, even hours before the camera hooked up.
    2. Hooked up a JVC HD Everio (Model: GZ-E306) and uploaded some new footage.
    3. Once that was done, files exporting from iMovie to QT have a white dot appearing in the middle while files exporting to any other format appear clear. (The footage within iMovie is clean and clear.)
    4. Upgraded iMovie 08 to iMovie 11.
    5. Deleted Quicktime and uploaded it again.
    6. Same exact issue occuring.
    Any insight from anyone?
