Problem exporting my 16x9 movie to full quality 16x9

My project was imported using 16x9, 1080i. I've done this many times. I recently added a new external hard drive. I went to export at "full quality" and the movie is compressed to 4x3. The project was def imported as a 16x9 full hd file. I may have accidently switched something off. What should I do to correct this?

Yes, but I was using another version of Quicktime.

  • Problem exporting as reference movie

I have a 90 min timeline that I am trying to export as a reference movie. I have done this before with no problem. everything is rendered in the timeline. I am working in SD DV NTSC.
The reference movie takes over an hour to export and the file size is about 14gig... so it seesm to be exporting as a self contained movie. Self-ciontained is UN-checked. I'm using current settings, audio & Video, chapter markers.
The video and render files are on a WD 500gig external drive.
I've tried exporting to the external drive and to the computer desktop. Same issue.
I've trashed FCP prefs with no luck.
I got a new laptop this week... I migrated the files from my G5 to the lap top. Same issue on both machines.
    G5 dual 1.8   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   3 gig RAM

yes.... the timeline is completely rendered... and the files are located on my WD 500gig external Harddrive.
It appears to be a reference movie. The 14 gig file I have created and saved on the desktop will not play when the external drive is ejected from the computer.
I had a major FCP crash last week working on a project with the desk top G5. I was not able to get the program to reopen. I read here on the boards to trash the prefs. and that worked to get FCP to reopen.
This week I got a new macbook pro. I migrated from the g5 and it seesm waht ever problem I encountered on the G5 has migrated to the macbook. I am re-installing FCP fresh today to see if that solves the problem on the macbook.
This also seesm to have messed with the compresor program. I have several (10-13gig) one hour SD video files captured (raw) that I sent to compressor last week to export as QT7 download 300Kbps. Those files took a reasonable amount of time. NOw this week I try again and the same files are taking over 6 hours to compress.
I wonder if I have a larger overall computer issue here.
Thank for the help so far!

  • Issues importing .mov at full quality

I have been using iMovie09 to edit video screen captures, imported as .mov files (1280x720) captured with a screen-capture software (iShowU). I've been importing them with the "Optimized" option set at "Full - Original Size" many, many times, and never had any issues. Now suddenly, I go to import the same exact .mov clips that worked fine previously, using the same exact import settings, and the video that's imported has horrible quality.
Granted, when I import at full size, there is a message telling me "Selecting Full on this computer may result in degraded video playback", but it's always been just fine until today. Might there be some maximum cache size somewhere that's hit it's limit? Other thoughts?
    Thanks!

Hi, I am in a similar position with a Sony HDR-CX7. I shot at 1080i and am now trying to work out a good workflow to retain maximum quality for 720p output (not DVD or BluRay etc).
From my research, in general iMovie (after v6 at least) is not a good friend to interlaced source material. It appears that generally it is going to just dump a field of the interlaced source material to get to a progressive intermediate codec that the editing is done on. This is why I have been going with the "large" (30fps, 540p) option, as at least their shouldn't be artifacts, just some lost detail.
I have not experimented with the "full" import option to compare though, I would be very interested to hear from others who have and can give some facts about what is going on.
Overall I am disappointed that Apple have chosen to hobble their handling of interlaces source material in their consumer level products, given that iMovie 6 did a good job with it and a lot of consumer level camcorders still require it.

  • Problem exporting QuickTime file (*.mov)

When I try to export my Flash animation as a QuickTime movie
(*.mov) in Flash 8 Professional (or in Flash MX 2004, doesn't
matter) an error appears stating that an error occured because a
required QuickTime component could not be found. I have Apple
QuickTime v7.1.3 (QuickTime Player v7.1.3) installed on my
    computer. In my "F:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTComponents"

do I need to download another component or version of QuickTime? In
    my "F:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash 8\Players" directory, I only

  • Problem exporting stills from movie

    Hello,
I'm trying to export stills in JPEG or TIFF from my quicktime movie. (QT Pro 7)
I drag the playhead to the image > export > movie to pic > TIFF (or JPEG)
But no matter what, the image saved on my desktop is in a PICT format which I cannot read.
    Thank you.

You don't need to keep the .pct file extension on your export.
You can change the .pct to .jpg (if you use Photo-JPEG compression) extension and save away.
    Bonus tip:
You can also change the display size of the movie playback (drag or use the menu) and your "capture" will be made using this newer size.
    Bonus tip two:
You can also use any image from the movie to create a custom icon for the .mov file.
Position the playhead to the image you wish to capture. Use the right-left arrow keys to step through each frame.
Command-C (copy) and switch to the Finder. Do a "Get Info" on the movie file.
Click (just once) on the small QT icon in the upper left of the Get Info window and Command-V (paste).
Your movie now sports a custom icon! Makes finding a file from a folder of dozens very easy.

  • Exporting to iDVD vs. full quality QT movie

Is there any difference in quality if you export your movie to a Quicktime movie at full quality then bring that into iDVD, versus exporting the movie directly to iDVD? I've been making the QT movies and then bringing those into iDVD. I suspect you get the same thing either way, but would like to know if there is any difference.

No, there is no quality loss. I do that all the time, especially if my original movie is lengthy or complicated because the audio begins to distort. I put the new quicktime movie into a new iMovie and use that for iDVD. I also like to place my chapter markers on transitions, and with the quicktime movie, that is not a problem.

  • IMovie full quality export problem...

    Hello,
I filmed a widescreen video with a mini dv cam, which runs flawlessly smooth and clear as a bell at full screen in iMovie... but when I export it in either a full quality .dv, or the highest quality .mov and play them at nearly full screen in Quicktime, the playback is choppy.
How do I export a copy of my video that plays as smooth as it does in iMovie?
    Thanks!

I am using the expert settings for quicktime export
If you want full quality, then you must use the Full Quality preset.
The expert settings don't export full quality even if you choose .dv output:
    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/~shmhav/iMovieHD_6_bugs.html#expertsettings
But that doesn't fully explain your original problem, though.
Disclaimer: I don't benefit from the link.

  • Video freezes when exporting to Full Quality

[Background: I've been working on a video project in iMovie HD that I'm doing in pieces - exporting each section of the video at full quality when it's done, so that later I can put them all together in a new project.]
Lately I've been having major problems exporting to full quality Quicktime files. The exported video freezes a few frames in, though the audio continues to play normally. This does not happen if I save it to a smaller quality, say, Web Streaming.
I'm having trouble seeing a pattern in how/why/when this happens, too. I have successfully exported movies to full quality both before and after movies that export incorrectly. The first project that had this happen, I decided to reassemble bit by bit to find out if something specific was causing the problem. Turns out that Full Quality exporting started having this problem if I had added titles. After jumping through something like 50 hoops - exporting little pieces, reimporting, exporting just the titles, etc., etc - I managed to work around the issue. Bit of a headache but all seemed to be well.
BUT, the frozen video problem soon happened again. The next time I had this trouble exporting, there were no titles in the project at all, and the problem instead occurred once I added music. So there does not seem to be a pattern within iMovie itself. This makes me think it's either a Quicktime problem or something to do with my computer itself. I have 2GB of memory, 37GB of space left on my hard drive, and I'm running Quicktime 7.4.1 and iMovie HD 6.0.4.
Please help! I'm on a bit of a deadline, too. This is driving me crazy!

Thanks Matt. I am in the same boat as many people have obviously been in - trying to burn a DVD to a film fest deadline of tomorrow, and after 4 hours of trying to make a disk image, getting 'error during burn'.
    I have one question.
    a) In imovie, I clicked the 'create iDVD' button to create this project - which has problems burning.
    b) Now if I simply try to drag that .mov file into the iDVD pane as you suggest, is that identical to what I have done in a) - in that we're operating with the same basic animal. Of so
    c) I should try the process of exporting to .dv, reimporting to new imovie, redoing chapter markers and THEN dragging the package .mov to the iDVD pane - hoping that chapter markers are preserved.
Oh ... someone said one should try to save the .mov as a sel contained file. is that necessary?
Thank you for sitting in front of you Mac!

  • Problems exporting Premiere Pro with SWFs in as .mov files.

    Hi,
I'm not the most competent with Premiere and am having a few problems exporting my final movie.
I am having problems with an animation (Screen size: 1024 x 576) I am producing; I've produced all the animation in Flash then exported the files as SWFS, and want to composite it in Premiere and export it as Quicktime Movie (H.264), as this seems to give the best image quality for the final movie. All the SWFs export from Flash and import into Premiere fine, and in the main the SWFs export fine from Premiere, however a few of the SWFs don't export into the final finished movie, leaving just a blank screen, and others only partially export, either stopping halfway through the shot or exporting with some of the layers from the SWF missing. I've tried re importing the files but I still encounter the same problems.
Can anyone shed any light onto where I may be going wrong and what I can do to get the entire movie to export fully? Or if there is a better way of exporting the files from Flash to a final finished movie?
If you need any other information let me know,
    Many thanks
    Josh

    Hmmm...
I did a quick test in your behalf with a test project with and without "alpha glow" applied to all of the media.
The results were actually kind of strange:
    - export to .mp4 utilized all cores (6-core box w/ Hyperthreads) with a smooth 82% utilization for the whole export; memory usage (also from task manager) went up and once it hit a maximum, it stayed there
    - export to .mp4 with "alpha glow" applied -> CPU usage started out pretty good, then memory usage maxed out and then actually cam down; after a bit, the CPU usage stabilized at around 22%, or about 25% of what it had been at the start of the export
Smells to me like an Adobe bug or design-flaw.
Anyway, good luck with your testing.
I totally agree with Bill's suggest to do a full PPBM7 test on your new rig and report the scores back here - and to the PPBM7 site of course. This will help you to have confidence in your new hardware and setup. Once your hardware and configuration (for Win7, drive caching, Premiere settings, etc.) are working fine, then your particular workflow, etc. can be a separate troubleshooting step.
    Good luck!
    Regards,
    Jim

  • Cant export AV Self contained but can export QT Conversion Full Quality DV

Having trouble exporting Quicktime movie, "Self-Contained"is checked. Include Audio & Video. It exports about 3/4 of the way and than get general error. I have searched the forum but found nothing that would help. I have exported it using quicktime conversion Full quality Dv and it exports fine and plays fine. But when I import full quality dv back into fce and render it, the last 10 minutes of the 22 minute video has no sound. All music is aiff and all pics are jpeg, tif, And video is all original DV. Have have made several videos using all the same types of format and have never had this problem. Could someone help. Thanks.....Rick

Did you render all and mix down the audio before you attempted to export the movie?
Sequence > Render All > Both
Sequence > Render Only > Mixdown
Do both of them, in order, then save your project, then try exporting again.
What version of QT do you have on your system?

  • Export Full Quality Preset in iMovie 09?

Does iMovie 09 have a way to export movie in full quality? Can DV source be exported as DV?

If you choose Share --> Export using QuickTime... you can export as DV, as well as a number of other formats, and choose the settings for your export. There is no "Export Full Quality" preset in iMovie '09.

  • Export "full-quality" in iMovie '09.

Using iMovie HD, I used to export my footage as a full-quality QuickTime movie so I could archive it to disk and access it later. However, in iMovie '09, the "full-quality QuickTime" preset seems to have been removed.
What export settings in iMovie '09 will allow me to achieve the highest possible quality? I'd like to archive my footage to disk so that I'll always have a digital file to work with.
    Thank you.

Welcome BarrenRegions to the  iMovie boards ..
no way to answer that question.. you have to compare apples with peaches.. (German proverb):
iMHD≥6 was a dv-only editor (and AIC, but this is another story...); it handles dv lossless.. frequent contributor lennart once made a test of ex- and reimporting a few dozends time the same clip = no loss of pic quality.
    now iM08/09:
it handles dv not as dv internally anymore; therefore it accepts lots of other codecs (mp2, avchd, h264...).. so, depending of your source, the export can be lossy.
we have mile-long threads about that, search for posts from Steve Mullen and Euisung Lee who did research this issue +ad nauseam+
as far as I followed that discussion: there's a 'trick', to convert - after import into iM08/09 - the imports to AppleIntermediate with tools as QTpro or Mpeg Streamclip. that blows-up size, but forces iM08/09 to keep quality a 100%...
.. sorry for being less helpful, even as a 'Silverback' on this board, all that is +a bit+ beyond my skills, needs and understanding.. to be honest: I switched awhile ago to FinalCutExpress, and will use iM09 when I'll get a new rec-device.. hopefully this year (Santa! do you listen?!...)

  • Options for Full Quality Exports

If I export from FCP>Export>Quicktime movie and make it a self-contained movie is that in full quality?
Are there any other ways to export my movie in full quality. File size is not an issue?
    Thanks for your help.

when I do a "mixdown" of a spot or something I always pick "Current Settings" from the pulldown menu in the export dialog box. That way the video is being output in the same format it came in as. I haven't noticed any quality reduction in anything exported that way.

  • Exporting full quality

Everytime I export my movie using Full Quality DV the end result is not as crisp as the original. I even exported a clip with no edits and the exported clip doesn't look as good.
Is this loss of quality what I'm supposed to expect everytime I export my movies? Remember I'm always exporting using "Full Quality" option.
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi guys,
thanks for the replies. I recorded the clip with iMovie and opened the package and extracted the dv clip to use with Pro-Tools. Once in Pro-Tools I realized that the video was not complete so I went back to iMovie, completed the video and created a new quicktime file at "Full Quality".
Once I imported this new clip back in Pro-Tools the video was not as crisp as the original. I didn't do any edits other than to put clip 1 right next to clip 2 and export at full quality. Just wondering if this is normal for iMovie.
    Thanks!

  • Saving movies in good quality and small filesize.

As far as i can tell the only formats you can save a movie in imovie hd are either huge in filesize or really bad in quality. The solution i've come up with is to "share" the movie in full quality, which with an 8 min video makes a file bigger than 1gb. I take that file and convert it to mp4 with a program called MoviePod( find on versiontracker.com), and then i have a file of about 40mb which actually looks good even if i view it in fullscreen on my "15. Anybody have any other tips about this stuff, or have actually figured out how to get decent file sizes directly from imovie hd? By the way, are the more advanced video-editing programs from Apple any more flexible when it comes to this?
    cheers.

By the way, are the more advanced video-editing programs from Apple any more flexible when it comes to this?
those and iMovie rely mostly on the Quciktime engine, which cares for all kind of media on a Mac system...
    share
    Quicktime
    Expert Settings
    .. hit button...
    you're confronted to this dialog:
it offers in the drop-down menu all QTrelated codecs, plus many of them offer "options" (size, bitrates, fps, ...)
e.g. using 320x240, motionjpeg, 75% quality, 15fps will reduce your file size dramatically by keeping an acceptable quality (video+grafics)...
    .. and you'll find a mpeg4 codec too..
but as you, I prefer the mpeg4 algorithm used in a 3rd party app, iSquint (relies on open source ffmpeg)
or, you use the mpeg4 encoder as part of the 3ivx project.....
Compressor, part of FCP/DVDSPsuite allows much more, elaborated options.. but =>$$$$
