Problem exporting to WMV in Final Cut Express

I am recreating a Keynote file of mine for someone who needs to use Power Point (poor fellow). Because most video will not play in Power Point, I converted those needed into WMV using Final Cut Express. However, when they play back in the Power Point, the colors are all changed to red and green and such, nothing like the originals. Fortunately, the files will play normally saved as AVI files, but I am told that WMV play best in Power Point.

As I was replying to a Telestream Technical Support person and trying to get a screen shot to send her, the Windows computer indicated that there was a Windows Media update. I installed the update, and now the .mov files that were converted to .wmv files in Final Cut Express run fine in both Windows Media Player and Power Point 2007 on the Windows XP computer.

  • Exporting HD Video From Final Cut Express HD

When attempting to export HD video from Final Cut Express using "uncompressed" setting, I notice that the output quality seems to be limited to "medium." If no compression is used, wouldn't that imply that the video quality should equal original footage?

All FCE Timelines are using the AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) for HD stuff if you selected the correct Easy Setup before you started your Project.
If you export as a Quicktime Movie then you are getting exactly the same export quality as the Timeline.
The Quicktime Movie can be either Self-Contained or a Reference file. Reference Files are great because they use/reference you exisating captured files on your Scratch Disc, use less space and export fast.
However if you need to play the export somewhere other than your Mac your will require the file to be Self-Contained.
QuickTime Conversion does just that, Converts to whatever you select.

  • Exporting a Video from final cut express and uploading to vimeo

I film with a Sony FX-7 in 1080HDV and would like to know the specific settings of how I should export my video from Final Cut Express to vimeo to be played in HD mode on a vimeo account.

I looked that link up but my video seems to be running pretty slow, here's the link to the vid http://vimeo.com/20580561
Do u have any advice on what I should change for the settings?

  • Why has exporting a film from Final Cut Express (FCE) HD (3.5) taking 30 times longer and file size increased by 30X?

Exporting a 75 minute film from Final Cut Express (FCE) HD(3.5) through Quick Time Movie is now taking over an hour instead of the 2minutes it used to take.  The FCEMovie file is now 14 GB instead of the 1 GB it used to be.  In both cases Self Contained was notchecked when exporting.  I havetried trashing the Preference file to no avail.  There was a message when opening the FCE project that 140render files were offline.  Ichecked the box to forget them and also did a Render All Both and Render Only Mixdownbefore exporting.  I had thisproblem a few days ago and solved it by reinstalling FCE.  However after two days the problem hascome back.  As far as I know I didnot change anything in FCE or the system when the export times and file sizeincreased.

I think you are correct about the longer version being a self-contained movie except that I did not check that option when exporting.  However, I have opened another project of the same size and that one can be exported in the usual time, the problem must reside with the particular project.  A clue is that to regain some disk space I deleted the render folder for several projects including the one I am having trouble with.  Also when iI opened that project I got a message that files were disconnected and I think they were render files.  I did re-render before exporting and that is when the file length increased by a factor of 13, even though it was not supposed to be self-contained.  FCE is working OK with other projects when I export them.  I am still puzzled.

  • Exporting to FLV Using Final Cut Express

I am using Final Cut Express 4.0 to edit my full HD film footage (29.97fps 1920x1080HD). The final film will be uploaded to my website for viewing. I will be hosting my own videos and using my own player. I need to get the videos to .flv format for easy web viewing. Unfortunately, I have learned the hard way that FCE doesn't export to FLV nor does it predict your export file size. What a shame! My videos are 7.5 minutes long, so the files are large. Currently, I am using a two 3rd party free video converters. The first provides me more flexibility in compressing my video using H.264. I reduce the resolution to 1280x720HD for a reduced file size. Next, I use the other converter to take the compressed file and convert it to FLV. This is where the video becomes unbearable. I received better conversions when I uploaded to YouTube and allowed them to do it. The purpose for me trying to compress and encode the videos myself was to improve the quality of my videos on the web. Feedback I have received was that my free encoders aren't good. It has been suggested to me that I purchase Adobe Flash CS4 to convert to FLV. My problem is I don't want to spend $700 to convert a video. Do I have any other viable options?

no need for converter #1, .. the zillions of options in FCE's 'Export using QT'-dialog allow same settings..
450sec of 720/30fps material will create STILL huge files .. the point for setting the 'quality' is the socalled bitrate; e.g. famous tool VisualHub (not avail anymore) allowed a manual setting, to find a mix of size vs. pic quality. .. check your converter tool, where and how to set the bitrate. but: the better, the bigger ..
I dare to say, even the mentioned elaborated tools don't do wonders.
consider downsampling the framerate by half to 15 (in the 'Size' dialog on Export from within FCE).
consider an even smaller res 960x540 ..
don't forget to de-interlace for web-deilivery (reduces file size a lil'..)
downsize audio sampling rate to 22kHz.. mono .. saves a few MB ..

  • Exporting .wmv from final cut express

I'm trying to find an acceptable method to export a movie file to share with Windows users and most codecs are extremely lossy for what I'm doing except the .wmv. But I can NOT get any sound to export with a wmv file. I have other wmv files like those I get in e-mails and they play fine... ALL other codecs I've tried bring sound with them ok. looking for assistance/explanation

You're right. My error was not reading the Flip4 manual. And tho you didn't really put together what I was saying at first ie: I WAS exporting in .wmv from FCE, you did help me understand that the conversions choices that I was using in FCE were part of a plug-in, which in turn led to the answer. Here's the deal; ALL of the .wmv conversion choices show up active with the free versions of Flip4 and you can get video converted to .wmv with quicktime supported applications (just enough to tease and confuse), BUT, apparently it doesn't finish converting the entire video clip, nor does it bring any sound with it until you purchase at least the "Studio" upgrade. • Exporting 1080 (50p) to Final Cut Express

After an eternity of video editing on PC/Pinnacle Studio, last year I saw the light and switched to Mac/iMovie 09. I now want to make the next step up to HD/FCE and have homed in on a Panasonic HDC-TM700 camcorder which has had fantastic reviews, however, several reviewers have highlighted the inability to export 1080(50p) to edit in FCE. Given that 1080 (50p) would seem to be the "future", is there any way that I can overcome this problem without going to Final Cut Pro?
    Thanks,
P.S. For someone who started out 50 years ago, splicing together strips of 8mm cine film, the "problem" is relative!

I'm pretty sure that the next editable quality down will also look very impressive on your HDTV.
When you have edited your AVCHD video, the cheapest/best way to view it is via this tiny £70 gizmo
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-1080P-Media-Player/dp/B002VAVR4A/ref=sr13/278-5070070-3047239?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1279890483&sr=8-3
All you do is export your edited video to H.264, put it on any USB 2.0 Hard Drive (or memory stick), plug the HD into the gizmo and the gizmo into your TV and you can sit back and watch your own hi-def edited videos.
A £70 1 Terabyte USB 2.0 HD will hold over 200 hours of HD movies.
The HD and gizmo are so compact, they are easy to take to friends' houses and plug into their HDTVs.

  • Exporting to WMV in Final Cut Pro

In Final Cut Pro when exporting the project, how do you set the settings and options to export the project to Windows Media instead of Quick Time Player?
I know it is somewhere in the settings but does anyone know the steps?

Search the forum for WMV, topic comes up almost daily.
You must purchase a component from Telestream called Flip4Mac. I think it's $50. Please note, the free version of Flip is for playback, it does not transcode.

  • Problems exporting from Text From Final Cut

I'm having some troubles exporting from final cut. I'm trying to export uncompressed full quality version of a short we've finished editing. When I export it as a self contained, quicktime movie, the video looks great but any of the text in the film looks pixelated and bad.
I tried to export using the quicktime conversion option, but whenver I do that I end up with great looking text, but the video doesn't look right. I can't really describe it, but the edges of anything moving look a little off.
I've tried making the text in livetype and importing it, as well as useing the text generators in FCP, but they both yeild the same results when exporting the final product.
Some help please! I want good looking video, and good looking text in my exports!

  • Problems installing twixtor plugin for final cut express 4

    hello
im having troubles in installing the Twixtor plugin for FCX4, so far im trying to install the demo, easy enough i've gone through the steps stated from the installing window from Re:visions, however once said it has successfully said its been installed, i opened up FCX4, looked through the video filters and there is no sign of any plugins.
After the installation do i need to move the downloaded content to a certain location?
Please help! such a simple thing, but i really want to try twixtor out!

Converting is in fact far easier and less troublesome than capturing from tape, especially when using a tool like ClipWrap or the log and transfer window in FCE4. You can see the clips, play them, mark them up, and this is fully random access, without the issues of finding material on a tape, or timecode problems, or timecode breaks. It's actually faster than ingesting from tape.
"On its way out" is too mild a term; it's more like a dead and rotting corpse. There is serious discussion among people with too much time on their hands and a love of discussing technology that the next version of Final Cut should remove tape capture and tape output entirely.
BTW, I went to high school in Harrisville, NH.

  • Is there a problem with USB speakers and Final Cut Express HD?

I have audio only through my internal speaker for Final Cut - however all other sounds play through my USB Harman Kardon speakers fine.
I have tried sending the audio out to my M-Audio head too - and that has been fruitless.
I am really frustrated - I reinstalled the OS. And ran it with only Final Cut and the OS and still have the same issues. Even if I drag an MP3 into Final Cut it plays through the internal speaker. I also notice that the audio really lags behind the video when it plays through the internal speaker - if that means anything. I have made sure that the Canvas Setting is correct.
Tech support for the most part has been nice, but they are unable to help me.
Please help!!!! And thanks in advance.

Sorry, no actual experience with USB Audio devices.
I found this in the Pro forum, but the outlook doesn't seem good:

  • Problem Exporting to OMF from Final Cut Pro

    Hello
I'm trying to export several audio tracks in a full length project to OMF, but no matter how short I set the in and out points or how few of the clips I select, or how many of the audio tracks I mute, I always get the same message, claiming that the resulting file would be larger than 2GB, which I realise is not currently supported. The fact that even trying to run a test with just four audio tracks over 3 minutes or so is impossible makes me think that there is either something  I or the software is doing wrong.
    Has anybody experienced similar problems?
    Any help/pointers gratefully appreciated!
    Thanks
    Sebastian

You might want to check out Automatic Duck's plug in which will allow you to output an omf linked to external media.  Very, very useful and worth every penny.  Most sound designers want extensive handles which makes omf's with embedded media hit that 2gig limit.

  • Exporting a .wmv from Final Cut Pro

When I export a Windows Media File it only exports a portion of the file. Everything else(.mov, aiff, etc.) exports in full. What am I doing wrong?

  • How to Import WMV's into Final Cut Express WithOUT Flip4Mac

How can I import a .wmv into Final Cut Express v.1.0 without using Flip4Mac? I am doing a video for a friend who gave me a .wmv file and it throws up a "Flip4Mac Free Trial" watermark. So lame. Is there a free version of something I can use? I googled but couldn't find. Any suggestions? Thanks SO much in advance.

There aren't any free import/export components for WMV content. F4M is the best, since it's integrated into FC, but, as you've found out, without paying the $49., the free version limits the clip to 1/2 it's duration up to 30 seconds, and puts the watermark on.
The other software that converts is Visual Hub, but it doesn't have the FC integration...it's slightly cheaper.
There's one other option HERE, that I have not tried. Supposedly they will convert video to other formats for you.

  • Final Cut Express Problem with Snow Leopard

When I export my movie from Final Cut Express using Quicktime Conversion settings it is taking up to 10 times as long to export than prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard. I have FCE 4.0.1. Mac OS is 10.6.2. This is the only problem I am having but it's a huge one. I use an external hard drive as the scratch disk with FCE.
Going back and doing a complete clean install of Snow Leopard is not an option. I have too many other programs that would have to be re-installed and no time for all that.
I have removed and re-installed FCE as someone suggested. No difference. FCE works find until export time. I use it for short on location video clips and need fast turnaround.
The movie eventually exports and the exported movie is fine. It's just taking forever. Did not have this problem on previous Mac OS.
I can edit the same video in iMovie and export in a fraction of the time but would prefer to use FCE since it has more options.
I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Frame rate is fixed to 29.97 ot 25 in FCE. What do you plan with 8000 frames/second?
HD1920X1080 is a frame size, what is the CODEC used (like H.264,MPEG2, QT animation, etc)?
