Problem exporting using FCE HD

When trying to export from FCE HD (3.5), I am selecting one of the conversion options (mpeg4 for web), the hd whirrs for a second and then returns 'unknown file error!' and won't do anything else to process the thing.
What have I missed?
I've tried trashing the preferences: is this a cmplete uninstall, reinstall job?

Presume this is similar problem to the one further down the listing ...

  • Quality problem exporting from FCE

    Hi,
i have a quality problem exporting from FCE. I have finalized a 30 minute movie and want to send it to friends on DVD or CD-ROM. when i use "export as quicktime movie" the file has 6.5 GB and won't fit on a DVD-ROM. when i use "export with quicktime conversion" and choose quicktime movie with H.264 compression and highest quality the movie goes down to 4.2GB. Now it would fit on a DVD-ROM, but the quality is not good. The picture looks blurred and i see some type of interlace-effect.
which type of export format do i have to choose to avoid the interlace and blurred pictures? is there a magic format that does not cost that much quality and reduces the movie by 30-40%? or would a video DVD work better? how do i create a DVD? with iDVD?
    thanks for your help!

or would a video DVD work better? how do i create a DVD? with iDVD?
    That's what Id do.
Export as QuickTime Movie (reference file is OK) and drop the export to iDVD.
You will get 1 hour of FCE Timeline on a single sided disc using Best Performance (iDVD setting).
Two hours using Best Quality (iDVD setting)

  • Problem exporting using Compressor in FCP?

I had a problem exporting using Compressor in FCP and then I found an interesting article from Apple:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1099
but it doesn't really explain the solution. What steps do I need to take exactly in Compressor to make it work?

James M. has it right. Convert the MP3 and the WAV files to AIFF, 48khz, 16 bit and use those in your Sequence. You might even have to convert the existing AIFF file(s) if they aren't 48khz, 16 bit.
Once you've edited the new files into your Sequence, do an Audio Mixdown, then export.

  • AVCHD to DVD: How to export using FCE

I've been using AVCHD for two years now. But when I burn it using the DV format the video thus not look the same from the AVCHD. What would be the best setting to use... Thanks in advance.

Funny thing happened I edited some HDef footage about 1.5 hours worth. I exported it as a QT file into my movies folder. Proceeded to open iDVD and the QT file was not available to import. Noticed QT file was 35gb. Is that why iDVD would not import? I cut a small piece about 1 min and exported it as a QT file and iDVD accepted it.
Is there a work around in FCx that would enable me to export a smaller file to work in iDVD?
I am so sorry for the explanation..I'm a Mac Newbe. Trial and error is taking sooooo much time....

  • Problem exporting using Display tag

I have made a code to export table into excel and pdf format, when i run the application it succesfully launched the excel format but only displayed the column title, the values are empty, is it related to the fact that i should use export filter? • Problem Exporting for Web files created in FCE using Quicktime

I have been using FCE 4.01 on Mac OSX 10.7.5 with Quicktime 10.1 (501.29).
I convert my footage in Mpeg Streamclip (GREAT free program) and set the files to the Apple Intermediate Codec.  This makes them work really well in my timeline and I don't have rendering issues or problems.
So, my problem comes when I File/Export/Quictime Movie.
The original file plays fine, but they're 2-3 gbs each, so I put them into Quicktime to convert them to a webfriendly size, but every single time they come out as an audio only file.  GRRRR!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Maybe I'm missing something stupid.
Thanks so much for your help.
    Sincerely,
    Steve

Why not bring the exported AIC file  back into MPEG Streamclip instead of QTX? You'll have a lot more control.
Compress the file to H.264 and restrict the data rate according to the resolution you're working with and to something consistent with the guidelines of the Web Service (say, You Tube) you're uploading to, (For example, something like 6 Mb per second would be about right for a 720P file.)
Or use Quicktime Conversion from FCE.
    Good luck.

  • FCE crashes when export using Quick Time

    Hi All,
When I select "Export - Using Quick Time Conversion", FCE crashes. I tried to repair permissions and rebooted but it did not help.
Export using QT was working fine last week. I did some maintenance checks with Onyx over the weekend. Could it be the problem.
    Any suggestions for fix?
    Thanks.

  • Problem exporting video to use in iDVD

I am working with anamorphic video in FCE 4.0.1. Video is imported from Canon GL2. The sequence I am working with has the anamorphic flag set and the canvas comes up as a wide screen view as I would expect. I export to QuickTime Movie (not self-contained), which we know sets the display size to 4:3. Open in QuickTime Pro, set the Movie Properties to 853 x 480 and save (as described in http://fcpbook.com/Video9.html ). Drag the movie into iDVD wide screen project. I've done this for a long time and it has always worked until recently.
Now when I preview the movie in iDVD it displays as squished 4:3. I suspect some upgrade of some software (probably QT or iDVD) has made it quit working.
I know there have been a lot of questions about this and I have tried various solutions without success. The only way I get it to come up as wide screen in iDVD preview is to use Quick Time conversion and export to a new file as 16:9. The big problem there is the chapter markers are not carried along, and I do not want them at every N minutes as iDVD will provide (I want them where I put them at transitions!). My only other thought is to export the full movie from FCE, bring it into iMovie, add the chapter markers there and export to iDVD (I understand iMovie is more compatible with iDVD).
I am using QT 7.6.0 and iDVD 7.0.3. This question may be more appropriate for those forums, but probably mostly only effects users that had exported from FCE. So I start with the post here...

Well, there is one more possibility using myDVDEdit, a powerful freeware application used to modify some parameters of a DVD image, before actually burning it. In this case you also need Toast or any other application able to make a video DVD image out of a VIDEO_TS folder.
The steps below seem complex, but in fact they are pretty fast, after a couple of usages.
    Instructions for using myDVDEdit:
    - Do not burn the DVD from iDVD but create a +disk image+ file
    - From the finder open the disk image and copy its VIDEO_TS folder to your desktop
    - Change the VIDEO_TS file permissions to let you modify its contents: in the finder Get Info panel select read/write for the folder and +all its internal folders+
    - Open myDVDEdit and use its File>Open command to open the modifiable copy of the VIDEO_TS folder
    - In the top left panel of the myDVDEdit window select +VTS 1+ (this contains the video)
    - In the panel below the video frame select +VTS 1+ among the vertical left tabs, and then Parameters among the top center tabs
    - Now you can see some parameters, that in your case should be: Coding mode: MPEG-2, Standard: NTSC, Resolution: 720x480
    - Aspect is what you need: this should be set to +16:9 auto letterbox+ - if not, select this option
    - Save - this is all you need to do in myDVDEdit
    - note that myDVDEdit window shows any change you make, but you can also open the DVD Player from myDVDEdit itself with File>Test with DVD Player
    - Now you have to +make a new disk image with the modified VIDEO_TS folder+: if you have Toast you have simply to drag the new VIDEO_TS folder to the proper Toast window and burn; otherwise you can use DVDImager, a free application, to create the new disk image, and then use Disk Utility to burn the real DVD (however DVDImager not always works with me... couldn't find out why).
If this doesn't work, you might also try the other options for the Aspect parameter. The full list is: 4:3, 16:9, 16:9 auto Pan&Scan, 16:9 auto Letterbox (the 1st to try), 16:9 auto Pan&Scan and Letterbox (2nd choice)

I have used still photos to make a Quick Time movie using FCE.  The DVD made using i-DVD looks somewhat grainy and the motion isn’t smooth when played on my TV.  Other DVD’s I have made play much better and I am wondering if the problem is my Quick Time movie settings.  The Dimensions and size of the problem movie are 1920X1080 and 584 MB respectively, while the movies that play better  have Dimensions of 853X480 and are about 1.3 GB in size.  Is this the source of my problem and how do I change things for the better.

Are you exporting to QuickTime Movie, or to QuickTime Conversion?   For iDVD, you need to export to QuickTime Movie.   Exporting to QT Conversion will kill the quality if you are moving the video from FCE to iDVD.
The file size per se makes no difference.
What size (pixel dimensions) are the photos that you put into your 1920x1080 sequence?  Also, exactly what are the sequence properties ... is it 1920x1080i60 ... or i50?  In North America it should be i60.
853X480 is an odd frame size.  Where are you seeing this number?  It would appear to be DV-NTSC, which has a frame size of 720x480.  Your 1920x1080 frame size would not be DV-NTSC, it would be Apple Intermediate Codec.   DV and AIC will look different, for sure.
Also, your quality setting in iDVD can affect the final video.  You may want to check that also (in iDVD Preferences > Projects).  Set it to Professional Quality if at all possible.

  • Help! Problems using FCE 2.0.3 after upgrading to OS 10.4.9

I recently upgraded to OS 10.4.9 and now I am getting "dropped frames on capture" error messages. None of the variables have changed (Same computer, camera, tape, external HD, cables) It was working great two days prior to upgrading to 10.4.9 and now I can't capture anything without getting dropped frames. I've tried a different tape, switching the capture disk to my internal HD, switching cables, reinstalling OS 10.4.9 again (this time from direct combo download), rebuilding permissions, trashing FCE preferences. I'm officially STUCK! Any help would be appreciated. Is anyone experiencing the same problems after upgrading to 10.4.9?

Just so we have all the "me too"s in the one thread, I posted about this on Saturday. I said:
I've been using FCE HD (3.0.1) for ages with my current setup and I've never had any capture problems.
This weekend, I tried capturing some anamorphic MiniDV footage for the first time for a few weeks and I repeatedly got the "dropped frames" error. I tried:
    1. another cable
    2. some different anamorphic footage from another tape
    3. trashing the prefs
    4. re-installing FCE HD
    5. de-fragging the HDD
    6. another machine (iBook G4)
I still got the error, even on the other machine.
I tried iMovie and the same camcorder and I had no problems at all so I can workaround by capturing there and importing the project into FCE (and rendering the audio), but a kludge isn't a fix
The only things to have changed since the last time I successfully captured any footage were the software updates OS X 10.4.9 and QT 7.1.5 so I strongly suspect one of those.

  • Exporting Using Expert Settings Problem

When I try exporting using expert settings, which is pretty much necessary, any video that I export, in just about any format, but usually .mov or .mp4 looks very strange. Any moving objects appear to be broken up by horizontal lines. I do not know much about these sorts of issues, but I'm guessing it's a problem with the frame rate. I've tried just about every frame rate and nothing seems to work. Thanks for your help!
P.S. Same thing happens when exporting from iMovie!

It means the timeline settings. If your project is DV, then it will export a DV quality file. If your settings are Offline RT, it will export an offline RT formatted Quicktime...if they are 8-bit uncompressed, an 8-bit uncompressed QT...etc. And the same frame rate as well, 23.98, 29.97 and so on.
It basically means that no further compression is occurring.

  • Export using QuickTime Conversion + SMB automount problems

I have noticed an interesting (read bad) behavior in FCP (5.0.4) - If I try to do an export using quicktime conversion with the destination being an automounted (via netinfo) smb share as opposed to a apple-k mounted share in m4v, 3g, mp4, image sequence, still image or quicktime movie - I get a File Error: Unknown Folder. However if I do the same export but in avi, wmv, dv stream, or flc formats, it works fine.
Trying to do the same export operation in quicktime pro produces an error -120, which is equivalent to directory not found.
Seems like a quicktime problem dealing with the automounted shares, anyone else run into this issue? Have a fix?
    Thanks!
    C M I

I know I can save locally + that it is tied to the quicktime components - I'm looking for fix/workaround that addresses the issue and streamlines my workflow, thats the reason I set up the automounter in the first place.
So it's clear though, quicktime has no problem with smb in a general sense, it only has problems w/ the automounted smb shares - manual or command+k mounting of smb shares offer no problems.
I use the automounting for two reasons: first is to emulate unc paths for rush render queue and second is to have consistent working paths to static content on a file server so final cut docs can be passed from editor to editor and link consistently.

  • Problem exporting video using compressor for a final cut pro vid

I've created a video in Final Cut Pro and trying to export using compressor to apple tv. Each time about half way through it crashes final cut and gives me the 'final cut pro had to quit unexpectedly'.
Haven't a clue what is going on, it happened sometimes when i was trying to conform to HD but when i did it bit by bit it was ok.
All the media is online so really haven't a clue. I've tried using quicktime conversion in pro-res then bashing into compressor and it works but interlacing is all over the shop, even with de-interlace filter.
ANy answers with regards to why its crashing greaty appreciated!
P.S when it crashes says something about a pro-core plugin

    Hi Jim,
Can you update your profile, we don't know what your hardware set up is or your OS, or version of FCS. It could give you answers a lot faster if we know your details from the off.
Ok, what format is your original media, what are your sequence settings please.

  • Aspect ratio issues in iDVD with mov files exported from FCE

Please help. I believe this is an iDVD bug. I have found some relevant discussion of it on online forums - but have not found a solution that works for me. I am looking for a workaround.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1356500&tstart=31
    PROBLEM STATEMENT:
My 4:3 movies, exported from FCE in QT-with-conversion formats (any 4:3 format) - appear in iDVD with gray side-pillars (as expected for 4:3) AND with a black line (letter-boxing) at top and bottom - as would be for 16:9. It appears the aspect ratio is also distorted i.e. 16:9. (The iDVD project is set to 4:3.)
1- A 4:3 mov file exported from FCE using Quicktime Movie format (no conversion) does not have the problem, but I cannot de-interlace the video using this export mode.
    2) A 4:3 mov file exported using QT-with-conversion mode (any 4:3 format) DOES have the problem. I need to use this mode in order to get de-interlace.
(Exception: 640x480 VGA mode does not have the black lines, and it displays correctly in dvd player on my computer screen - but on the TV screen, it crops content from the top and bottom of the movie, so this is not an option.)
    3) In Finder, if you click on mov file exported QT-only (no conversion), it opens in the FCE viewer. If you click on mov file exported in any other 4:3 mode, it opens in Quicktime viewer (i.e. there is absolutely something different in the header/ID of these files.)
    4) All mov files, regardless of export mode, show correctly in Quicktime viewer - no black line, no distortion. The problem does not occur outside of iDvd.
    5) I tried passing the QT-with-conversion mov files through an Inverse-Anamorphicizer (per suggestion on forum - this apparently fixed the problem for some people) but the resulting output mov (i.e. the inverted product) still had the same problem.
I am, so far, left with this trade-off: Give up the de-interlacing, or live with the letter-boxing/ distortion. Neither is acceptable.
I am looking for a workaround:
    1) A way to export de-interlaced 4:3 mov from FCE that shows in correct ratio in iDVD
    2) A way to "convert" / re-head mov file after exported so that it displays corrrectly (inverse-anamorphicize) so that iDVD reads it correctly
    3) Can the mov be de-interlaced after the fact (so I could use QT export without conversion)?
    4) Something besides iDVD to put this together - that doesn't have this problem? (I like and want to use the iDVD menu/theme.)
    5) Other?????
I also notice that all the QT-with-conversion mov files are 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the QT-only mov file, which is valuable and preferable to me. (I don't see any quality difference in the display...)

In the Preview window > top frame > middle button
do you have correct for pixel aspect ratio checked or not?
