Problem extending transitions

Hello -- I've seen the discussions on this, but the fact is, is that I have two 5 second clips and want to insert something as small as a 2 or 3 second dissolve, and am not able to do so, I'm only able to do the default, and I'm not able to extend it. Wheras I notice between other cuts in the project, I have less media on either side, (as little as 3 seconds) and am yet able to extend those transitions. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Here's how you tell how much handle you have on your clip for dissolves.
put the playhead on the clip, highlight it and hit f.
this will load your clip into the viewer. However much time you have before your inpoint and after you outpoint is how much handle you have to work with an effect.
If you center a two second dissolve between two clips, one second of the dissolve will use footage between your in and out points and one second of the dissolve will use the footage before or after your in or outpoints.

  • Simple problem with transitions

    Hi everyone
I am having a small bit of a problem with transitions....
When I drag a clip from the viewer over the canvas to get the menu bar pop up, and select insert with transition ( cross dissolve ) it puts in a transition but its very short and too fast and when i select it and try to make adjustments it doesn't seem to let me make any changes to the cross dissolve.
I wander what i am doing wrong?
    Many thanks Tim

    Hi
Just as David Harbsmeier indicates. Handles
Transitions are handled differently in iMovie resp FinalCut.
    • iMovie - material that builds the transition is taken from the videoclips = the total length remains same
    • FinalCut (as pro- works) . You have to set of a piece of material in each end of the video clips.
This is called In- resp. Out-points. The remaining parts are called Handles
Transitions here are using material from these = Total lenght of movie increase
    per transition.
I find books/DVDs by Tom Wolsky - Very valubale - Enjoyed them very much.

  • Problem extending standard ViewReceiptsSearchVO view object with logic on get method

    Hi All,
    EBS 12.1.3
    Database 11.2.0.3
I am trying to extend the 3 VOs related to ViewReceiptsSearch.  I extended a seeded ViewReceiptsSearchVO view object.  I haven't made any changes yet, no columns added, nothing altered.  When I run this substitution, the "Received" column is null.  This column in the view used for the view object only selects NULL and uses the getter method for the attribute to populate the value.  The generated extension getter calls getAttributeInternal and skips the logic in the standard getter and the substituted view object is displaying the null in the screen.  The below discussion explains the problem very well except that the original posted had the issue in 11.5.10.2.  I am having this issue with 12.1.3.
Problem extending standard view object with logic on get method
The 3 VOs that I am having the problem are:
    ViewReceiptsSearchVO
    ViewReceiptsSearchReqVO
    ViewReceiptsSearchSupplierVO
What do I need to do to get the "Received" column populated?  Please let me know any additional information you want to troubleshoot the issue.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Can you Please Share Extended ViewReceiptsSearchVO.xml and .jpx File?

  • Problem bei transition

    Hi.
We have a problem with transition effects
When some transition is started , the screen begins to
    rapaint and in this
moment I change to another application through ALT-TAB the
    transition loops
unendlessly and the look of director-Application window is
    very "unclean"
(buggy repaint). When I change again to Director app, its
    window repaints
correctly and everything works fine. How can I avoid this
    situation?
    Thanx in advance
    Jorg

Have you disabled the animate in background projector option?
If you have to run in background some lingo script, perhaps
    calling a
function in the free version of buddyAPI xtra can determine
    when the
projector is in background, jumping to a non transition frame
    to avoid
    the artifact.
You can determine of the current frame has a transition ( the
frameTransition?) perhaps jumping to the following frame if
    at a
    transition.

  • Unexplained problem with transitions

    Friends,
I'm having an odd problem with transitions. When I insert a transition, the transition cuts off the last few second of the audio of a clip and repeats the previous few seconds of audio. The video in transitioned appropriately.
This problem appears in all three of the transitions I've tried.
Has anyone heard of this? How can I remedy?
    Thanks!
    Steve

I think I've fixed the problem, albeit in a cumbersome way. Some of the transitiosn were between video and inserted still images. I might have adjusted the still image duration after inserting the transition. Then again, maybe not. Deleting the transition and surrounding clips/images and reinserting seemed to solve the problem. The program seemed to copy over a portion of the "left" clip that was equal in length to the portion of the clip included in the transition, but which occurred just before the transition began, and included that portion in the transition. I don't know if that's clear, but the lesson that I've learned is that transitions should be the second-to-last edit made, just before adding music. They are very termperamental.
    Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Sound problems during transitions?

Ok, i'm attempting to add a transition between a clip of some Talent Show MCs talking(I'm trying to cut out while they are saying something) right to a person singing, in then middle of a song. The sound is giving me issues, as the MCs keep talking while the singer starts singing, how do i make the sound during the transitions stop?
    Thanks.
Once the video stops, the audio keeps going, how do i fix it? That's what i need to know...i think.
    Message was edited by: Chanciffer

I had the same problem - I couldn't figure out how to turn off the sound during transitions, and it was annoying because I had cut my clips exactly where I wanted the sound to end, but the transition does a fade-out with the clip before the transition, and a fade-in with the next clip, so it was adding additional audio that I did not want!
    Here's my work-around:
    (1) Take the clip before the transition, and cut it exactly where you want the sound to end.
    (2) Right click and select "Detach Audio."
    (3) Extend the length of the video clip (at the end) a little for better video during the transition.
    (4) Take the clip after the transition, and cut it exactly where you want the sound to start.
    (5) Right click and select "Detach Audio."
    (6) Extend the length of the video clip (at the beginning) a little bit for better video during the transition.
Now there will be no sound during the transition, the audio will be perfect, and the transition will look smooth.
If someone knows an easier way to turn off the sound during a transition, please post it here. If not, I hope these instructions help!

  • Problem with Transition Over Nested Freeze

    In a nutshell:
My normally co-operative FCP (5.1.4, OS 10.4.10) can't seem to cope with one particular transition, in which a wipe effect overlaps with the start of a nested freeze frame. I seem to be able to do this with no problem anywhere else (even elsewhere on the same Timeline), but it's feeling like this one spot is jinxed!
    The gory details:
I have a short sequence that begins with 3-4 similar shots, each of which end in a freeze frame, followed by a 2-second "Clock Wipe" transition to the next shot.
In one particular case (let's call it going from Shot A to Shot B), the Wipe needs to begin several frames BEFORE the start of the freeze. So in that case I've taken the shot + the freeze and nested them, making sure that the nested clip has ample handles. So far, so good.
But every time I then try to apply the transition, I get the not very informative error message: "Not Found." When I click OK (the only option available), the Canvas suddenly goes red, and displays the message: "Display unavailable. Close and reopen window to restore."
But if I do close the window, both the Canvas and Timeline disappear and can't be reopened -- they're each greyed out under the "Window" menu, and Cmd-2 and Cmd-3 do nothing. If I close the sequence tab and then try to re-open the sequence, nothing happens.
Meanwhile, if I don't close any windows, and just move the playhead somewhere else on the Timeline, the red Canvas seems to go back to normal. But if I then try to play that Timeline (no matter where the playhead is cued), I keep getting the same "Not Found" error message. If I Undo to before the point where I applied the transition, I STILL get the "Not Found" error!
In fact, once that "Not Found" error message appears, the ONLY way I've found to get access to that particular Timeline again is by doing a Revert Project. (Other sequences continue to work fine; it's just this one which can suddenly no longer be found.)
For anyone still interested, here's the troubleshooting I've tried:
    - Doing the same procedure on another transition in the same Timeline -- works fine (even when applied to the very next transition -- the Shot B to Shot C one -- in the Timeline).
    - Applying a transition that's shorter, and therefore doesn't overlap with the freeze "embedded" in the nested clip. This seems okay, but as soon as I then try to make the transition longer, so that it begins before the start of the nested freeze, it's the "Not Found" message again, and another Revert Project.
    - Tried re-creating the nest: nothing. Tried re-creating the freeze frame, then re-creating the nest: still no change. Tried recreating the freeze on a different frame: no difference.
    - Tried applying different wipes to the trouble spot -- but with the same result: if the wipe was short enough not to overlap with the freeze that's inside the nested clip, no problem; if the wipe is long enough that it starts before the nested freeze, it's another "Not Found" message and another Revert Project -- but ONLY for this one transition.
    - Tried applying the wipe different ways (straight from the Browser; Option-dragging a copy of the transition from elsewhere on the Timeline; even making it a Favorite and applying it from the Effects menu).
    - Tried copying all the clips from the sequence over into the empty Timeline of a fresh new sequence: no difference.
    - Tried deleting the master shot altogether, and bringing in a new copy of the clip from the Browser: no difference.
    - Tried deleting all the render files associated with this one sequence, the re-importing the clip from the Browser and re-creating the Freeze then the nest yet again: still no difference.
    - Tried replacing the shot with a different clip of a different take altogether -- same thing!!!
    - Made sure disk permissions were repaired, and even did a complete rebuild of the directory of the disk which has my FCP master project files plus the app itself (using Disk Warrior).
At this stage, ANY suggestions would be hugely appreciated!
    Thanks,
    John Bertram

    Hi John,
How are you making the freeze frame? Shift n? Saving as subclip?
    Shift-n.
Does the freeze frame have ample handles, or just the clip?
    Handles galore.
Is there a reason that the sequence needs to be nested? How does it work if you put the clips directly into your main timeline?
It's not the sequence itself that's being nested, just a given shot together with its freeze frame. And that was so I could then begin the transition effect to the next shot BEFORE the start of the freeze frame. If the clip plus its freeze remain unnested on the Timeline, FCP treats the freeze as a separate clip, and won't let me stretch the start of the transition (to the next actual shot) past -- i.e. to the left of -- the start of the freeze.
But if the freeze and the shot which leads into it have been nested, then FCP should treat that nest as a single clip, and let me extend the transition effect I apply to it as far back into that nested clip as I want. At least that's the theory -- and it's worked for me at other times. Why it isn't working in this one case is what's driving me bonkers!
    Anyway, thanks for the note.
    Cheers,

  • Problem with "transitions" in PS Elements 9

I am a long time Roxio user, but recently purchased PS Elements 9. I find some things vastly superior, while other things seem to be a severe step in the wrong direction. At first glance "transitions" fit into the latter category. My problem is that if I use a simple transition such as a "cross dissolve" the transition is not visible at all, even if I lengthen the duraton to a lengthy 10 seconds. I'm hoping that the problem is simply  that I am new to PSE and that I am not doing somthing correctly. BTW, if I use a transition such as a page turn, it works fine, which only makes the invisibility of the dissolve all the more puzzling.

The A-B Roll editing was the only way to do it, back in the days of film. One created one reel, with the footage alternating between segments of black leader. The second reel was created with black leader in the places where the A Roll had footage, and footage, where the A-Roll had black leader. The footage overlapped by 1/2 of the desired Duration of the Transition - Cross-Dissolve, and both the A-Roll and the B-Roll were printed onto a single reel of film by the lab. The editor had to account for the Handles, or the Cross-Dissolve did not work in the print.
There were basically 3 Transitions possible: the Butt-Cut, Fade-to-Black (which in Video is most often called Dip-to-Black), and the Cross-Dissolve. The first was just what it sounds like, and the Tail of one Clip was butted to the Head of the next. The junction was either glued, or taped into place. The Fade-to-Black could be done in the lab, or with either the shutter, or the iris in camera. The latter was done primarily in the lab, though I had one camera that allowed for a Cross-Dissolve, by rewinding the last footage by a number of Frames, and then with the adjustment of the shutter angle, a Cross-Dissolve was created. One had to count carefully, or that Transition would be lop-sided, and not look good and smooth. Basically, this was a controlled double-exposure, created in-camera.
With Video editing, things improved, and if a switcher was placed between the source video tape machine, and the destination tape machine, more could be done. When NLE's were developed, the A-B Roll layout came along. It was not until several generations later, that single-Track editing became available. For anyone with a film background, the concept of Handles was easy to comprehend, as they had worked with them, in that overlap. Users, new to editing, however, found Handles a very abstract concept.
I still do a lot of A-B Roll layouts, just like Ted's example, but usually with animated Titles, and PiP compositions.
Even though I have many hundreds of available Transitions, I still rely almost exclusively on "the Big 3" - Butt-Cut, Dip-to-Black and Cross-Dissolve. Before I would use any other, I would need for it to enhance my "story." I even use the Big-3 to tell part of the story, and each has its place. The audience's concepts of time and place can be enhanced and expanded by their use and by their attributes, such as Duration. I know that this is getting into the realm of "story telling," and gets beyond the mechanics of a Transition.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Problem with transition in elements 11

Just instaled my elements 11 and trying appying some transitions beetwen clips , drag and drop method which I saw on tutorials dosn't work any idea why ?

    bubu28
Please state a specific video transition so that we can cross compare to rule out any glitches in a specific video transition. Are all or just some transitions not working for you? For a given transition, do you have problems placing it with all or just some of your video files?
After you drag and drop the video transition between the clips and then release the mouse, do you ever get the Transition Adjustment Pop Up?
Approaching this from another angle, that being not enough frames at the end of the first clip and the beginning of the second clip to make the transition work
Split off a few seconds at the end of the first clip and a few seconds at the beginning of the second clip. Right clip the gap between the two, and click on the pop up Delete and Close Gap. Now try to make the video transition placement.
If that works, I will go into trimmed and untrimmed clips, how to tell a trimmed clip from a untrimmed clip, and what is going on at the juncture of the two clips when you apply a transition between two clips.
    Thanks.

  • Why I am I having problems dragging transitions to the primary timeline?

Its an odd problem, when I start FCPX and edit, the transitions drag and drop fine to the primary timeline. However at some point during the edit, the drag and drops stop, I can get a skimmer over the transition but not the hand icon. If I try to insert the transition, this fails as well. Closing and restarting FCPX solves the problem but it generally returns after a while editing. Am I doing something wrong here or is it a bug. I am running on a Qaud Core 09 Mac Pro with 12GB of memory.

Running on Lion, restarting FCP X every 15 minutes is rule number one when working on large projects. Deleting Preferences is really only something you should be doing when FCPX doesnt launch or crashes every minute.
If all you need is the standard dissolve... Just select the edit point on which you want the transition and hit command+t.
A last thing you could try, if you do not want to restart FCPX(Which is quite fast) is to go to the projects panel, select a different project, then come back to the current project and try again...
Sometimes, after a while I cant select my clips anymore, then I switch to a different project and come back to the current one and I can again select my clips...
Those problems, to me, are only occuring on OS X Lion on Snow Leopard I dont have them. I take it has somethign to do with how Lion handles inactive memory as oppose to Snow Leopard.
A Lion fix all together would be fantastic.

  • Problem extending a VO with transient attributes

I am trying to extend a VO that is based on a query with a Binding Style of Oracle Positional.
The Attributes that are listed for the original VO are the attributes from the Query Statement plus some transient attributes.
I extended the VO by modifying the query. Added my two columns at the END of the Select statement.
Successfully substituted the VO but I am getting a runtime error when saving a record.
Reviewed the extended VO and noticed that the new columns are listed as attributes AFTER the transient attributes.
This could be the cause of the runtime error since one of the transient attributes listed after the query attributes is RowChanged.
How can I force my new attributes to be positioned BEFORE the transient attributes?
Is this the problem or is it something else?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Runtime error:
    java.lang.NullPointerException
         at oracle.apps.pos.supplier.server.ByrSuppAMImpl.validateDffVo(ByrSuppAMImpl.java:3575)
Yes, I have checked the attributes (Updateable Always, etc.) and the attribute mappings and they all seem fine.
My two new attributes are at the end of the original attributes. I think my new attributes should NOT be at the end of the original attributes because the original VO.xml has attributes from the query and then transient attributes that are not from the query. My extended VO now has the attributes from the original query, the transient attributes, and then my new attributes from the query.
The first two transient attributes are RowChanged and RenderFlex and it seems like OAF is confusing it with my new attributes because:
    (1) the runtime error I get when saving (RowChanged attribute)
    (2) the Flex field icon grays out after my VO extension was deployed (RenderFlex attribute)
To test out my theory, I would like to move my new attributes to be listed BEFORE the transient attributes.
I tried editing the VO.xml file by moving my new attributes (query-related) to the end of the other query-related attributes and before the transient attributes (that are not query-related). When I try to view my changes inside JDeveloper, the attributes are shown in the new order (on the left) but the query mappings are still listed in the old order.
Where can I re-order the query mappings? Tried using the up/down arrows on the right but it's grayed out.
If I re-order the attributes in the VO.xml file and save it, is that all the change I need to do?
    Thanks.

  • First time launch problems - no transition fx - iSight turned itself off

Just got a new 2gHz white MacBook. Migrated my old Home folder from clone of dead Tibook 10.3.9 via iPod. Before opening iMovie HD 6.0.2 for first time, I trashed the old iMovie I believe migrated.
    Updated to 10.4.7 released today.
iMovie HD 6.0.2 imediately reported 'There is a problem with the transition effect X' repeatedly. I could Cancel or Okay, but no Fix, so I okayed each and selected Make Magic Movie.
Next I selected iSight (built in), MPEG-4 Widescreen. iSight powered up and I could see myself, but when I continued, iSight powered down, and I gave up.
Thanks in advance for any help. Feel free to email [email protected]

    Mike,
Magic Movie is meant for pulling already shot video off a camera and creating a movie.
    Perhaps that's your problem.
If you are just going to use your built in iSight, choose iSight as the video format when you create a new project.
Not sure about the other error message. Have you ever installed any third party plugins for iMovie.

  • Problem with transitions after stabilizing clip

Most often, but not always when I add a transition to a stabilized clip i get a jump, in frame size in the stabilised clip. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I've seen some one ask this but not had any replies.
Using latest which I think is 10.1.1

Try turning the clip that "jumps" into a compound clip and apply the transition to that. (I'm just guessing here...)
Also, the "latest" FCPX is 10.1.2 which seems to have fixed a lot of problems that were cropping up in 10.1.1.

at that point i wasn't really strong enough in my flex ways. since
then i've actually strayed away from coldfusion and gone on to

this way you can add all the webservices to one component. i
haven't tried using a class just for the fact that it got a little
tricky dynamically calling webservices. but i dont see why it would
be a problem for parse errors. is there something that you need to
do to that isn't normally in the webservice component?
