Problem: Final Cut Pro X inaccurately reports "Out of disk space", when I have 333GB free.
Trying to "share" the compound clip I've created as an mp4 1080p file.

Editing MP4 media can create all sorts of havoc with FCP.
Convert the clips to .mov files – either Compressor or MPEG Streamclip will do that – preferably in Pro Res 422

  • Final cut pro x keeps on saying files are full when trying to export when their not ?

    Hi
Final cut pro x keeps on saying files are full when i'm trying to export when they are not full and also what setting do i export them on for a small quicktime?

The preset that will give you the smallest file is email and you will have 3 choices of size. Not sure what you consider small, but also take a look at Apple Device.
Your error message is Files are Full or DIsk is Full? Will need more info about your system specs, the format of the clips you're using and your project settings.

  • Out of disk space when trying to download latest update to itunes

I bought a couple of new songs and I cannot even download them to my IPhone 5, because it says that my iTunes needs an update. I tried to dowload the update and it keeps telling me that I am out of disk space. Anyone have a solution to this?

    Two things:
    1. That is not nearly enough of available space. At least 20 GBs is needed.
    2. FCP 4.5 HD is a PPC app; you are running it on a Intel Mac. Not compatible and you will have issues. I'm surprised you were able to install it.

  • Problem Final Cut Pro 5 and Motion 2

Using the video from the original tutorial and when I import the Motion Project back into Final Cut Pro the video comes in the incorrect size I checked to insure it is 720x480 and that Anamorphic is on - but the width is still off by sexeral pixels.. Comments .. Help Please...

My guess is that if you created the project in Motion, it uses the standard .9 pixel aspect for DV. FCP uses the non-usual-but-still-within-guidelines .89 - try changing that in your Motion project and see what happens...

  • HT5958 We are 4 min in to editing a video on final cut pro.  now my computer is freezing up.  I have heard that this is a glitch from downloading. (beyond frustrated)  is this from working from 2 external hard drives?  PLEASE HELP! =)

    PLEASE HELP. =)
we are about 4 minutes into editing a video for the first time on final cut pro x 10.1.  everything was going very smoothly, but then it started freezing up.  I had to do a hard reset and took it into the computer store that actually installed final cut for us.  they suggested that our mac actually is not capable of keeping up with final cut. (I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE!!)  We work on an IMAC 2.66 ghz intel core 2 duo.  8 gb 1067 mhz ddr3. software os x 10.9.1 (hopefully that info will help for your suggestions)  Because we have soooooooooooo many hours of high def video, we are working off of two external hard drives.... is this a problem?? or do we really need to upgrade our computer?????

Like Russ said, check Activity Monitor and see what else is running and turn off any Applications that aren't needed.
Turn off wi-fi or disconnect the wire that goes to the Internet
Turn off Background Rendering (if you see an orange line on the top of the time line that moves along and gets shorter while you're not doing anything that is a good sign that Background Rendering is running.
I haven't used 10.1 yest but on the previous version there was a small circle approximately in the middle of the screen, about 1/2-inch or 1 cm in diameter, and it would have a number inside. The number is the percent complete of what is hapening. When it is Rendering the percentage will be shown.
Basically, you probably need to free up resources.
For what it is worth, my previous Mac Pro was a 1,1 2.66 machine, also with 8GB of, I think, 667 memory, and it would process FCPX 10.0.9 okay. It did have an upgraded video card, though.

  • How do I revert to original footage in Final Cut Pro X version 10.0.9, for some reason I have lost some audio in my timeline and would like to start again but cannot get the original footage?

How do I revert to original footage in Final Cut Pro X version 10.0.9?
For some reason I have lost some audio in my timeline and would like to start again but cannot get the original footage?
Only the edited version which is no good without the audio?
    Please  Help

What format is your problem clip? Are there wave forms visible in the section without sound?
Right click on the clip in the event broswer and choose Reveal in Finder; open the clip in Quick Time to confirm that there is sound throughout at that stage of your workflow.

  • Transfer final cut pro x movie to an other disk

I want to transfer a final cut pro x project to another  disk drive with all the files that pertain to this movie.
Then I want to delete all those files for that movie to free up disk space for another movie....

Highlight project and select File>Copy Project to Library>New Library
This will copy the project and all associated media etc. to a new Library in the place of your choice.
You could alternatively use the "Move Library ...." command which would save you needing to delete the old one  .  .  .  .  however, you may feel safer deleting it yourself after you have confirmed it has moved successfully.

  • "out of disk space" when trying to export

I'm working on a Macbook Pro and Final Cut Pro HD version 4.5. Here's the deal:
I'm trying to move a project into iDVD, so I'm exporting it as a Quicktime Movie. After about a minute of exporting, the "Error: out of disk space" window pops up. I have almost 3 gigs on my external drive which, I think, should be enough for the file.
On another post, someone with the same problem said it was a faulty timecode that made the project seem reeeaaallly long and the drive didn't have enough room for that long duration. I believe this might be the cause of my "error" because at the very beginning of my project the time code reads 01:00:00;00. If this IS the problem, how do I fix it? If not, what do I do?
I am a very amateur film editor and would very much appreciate any help!
    Thanks.

  • Out of disk space when copying files from server to server

    Servers: NW 5.1.7
    Workstation: Windows 98SE with client32 v3.4
There is a batch file that copies files from server A to server B. At certain point, the copying gets stuck and message is displayed on the workstation: ""Network Status. Client32: out of disk space writing file to server B." Unless I press OK, the copying will not continue. There's plenty of space and memory, no quotes or user restrictions on server B. This procedure worked for years without any problem and nothing was altered on the servers or workstation at time of occurrence.

Did you purge the volumes ?
How high is ratio between compressed and noncompressed data on volumes?
I assume, that for this usage (copy one server to another) you should
seek the different way (program), which transfer the compressed data
    with untouched state of compression.

  • Out of disk space when exporting

im trying to export a project to quick time and saving it to the desktop..
and a window appears telling out of disk space...
    What to do???????
    thank you...

You just have to specify the drive you wish to export to, in the export dialog interface...
What other drives do you have available?
    K
EDIT - What are you exporting, and what is the current workflow you're following.
If you simply don't have disk space, you could try exporting a reference movie...(uncheck 'make movie self-contained') Be aware that if you do this, you MUST retain all media that the file contains, and it won't work on another system...without the identical material anyway.
But if you're that low on disk space, you really need to find a longer term solution, like an additional drive, or simply delete unnecessary media from a drive.

  • ITunes says I'm running out of disk space but I have plenty

I'm running iTunes 5.0.1.4 and save my ripped files to a 80 Gig Maxtor external hard drive. When I do a directory of that external hard drive, I see 40+ Gig free.
(I have about 700 albums which totals about 700 * 50 Meg per album ~ 35 Gig). However when I rip my CDs, iTunes is complaining that I'm running out of disk space.
    Any ideas what's going on?
    Thanks,
    Ted

    What's the exact message?
Do you always have your ExHD turned on before you fire up iTunes? Cuz if not, it defaults back to C: drive and maybe that is the drive low on room.

  • Final Cut Pro 7 error message (out of Memory)

I have an 8 core 6 gigs of ram. My mac is configured for HD video using XDCam footage.
I get a message that I am out of memory. 26:30 program and I have a lot of filters on my footage.
Can you tell me how I can release my memory? Conrol Command P R?
Can some help me with this?
    Steve

I have a few times ... strangely enough, when rendering to another internal drive with plenty of space, but the boot drive was 98% full (not my system).  When you have too little free space on the boot drive (which the system uses for temp and swap files), all sorts of wonky things start happening, and not just in FCP so I suggested checking that since MtD had already covered the graphics issue.
But you are correct; the error message is usually the result of importing an improper file format or still image not to proper specs.  With still images, it can happen not only with CMYK color mode images, but also with images in Grayscale or Indexed color modes.

  • Final Cut Pro 5.1 upgrade with FCS2 disks

I have Final Cut 5.1 installed, but I uninstalled the rest of the Final Cut studio applications, I purchased the FCS2 upgrade and am wanting to know if the disks will upgrade Final Cut without me having the rest of the applications installed, or will I need to reinstall the full studio package to take advantage of the new Final Cut and Color.

The answer to your question is, without regard to opinions on what's a good or bad idea, the entire suite is on the disks. You can load them on a clean unused hard drive or over your present drive which contains some or all of the earlier programs.
A search of these forums will probably result in much advice saying do a clean install... that is totally erase your hard drive, reinstall OSX 10.4.10 and then install FCS2. Not everyone believes that is an absolute necessity and the choice is yours.
You will find that FCS2 (Final Cut6) will not interface well with earlier versions of Compressor, Motion, etc.. If in fact, it will work with them at all. It is best to install all of FCS2, upgrading every element of the suite, then deleting any of the various programs you do not wish to use. But don't be too quick on the trigger... try them, you'll like many of them and wonder how you got along without them in the past.

  • Out of disk space when exporting a 10 min video!

I am trying to export a FCPX project that is roughly 10 mins long. It has transitions, text, music etc. I have a MBA 4gb, 120gb SSD, Intel i5.
The problem is, about half way through it crashes saying that the startup disk is nearly full, even though I have 40gb free before starting.
I have even tried moving all the events and project to an external drive and exporting the file to the same drive but it doesnt make any difference.
The confusing thing is, I exported another file a week early, about 10 mins long and that worked fine. I have the same amount of free disk space as I did then.
Any ideas? Is there a way to set FCP to use the external drive exclusively and not the startup disk?
I am trying to export using the following compressor settings: (It still fails if I use a lower quality export)
    Name: High Quality
    Description: No description
    File Extension: m4v
Estimated size: 2.25 GB/hour of source
    Device: Apple TV HD
    Frame sync rate: 5 seconds
    Video Encoder
              Width and Height: Automatic
              Pixel aspect ratio: Default
              Crop: None
              Padding: None
              Frame rate: (100% of source)
              Frame Controls: Automatically selected: Off
              Codec Type: H.264
              Multi-pass: On, frame reorder: On
              Pixel depth: 24
              Spatial quality: 50
              Min. Spatial quality: 50
              Temporal quality: 50
              Min. temporal quality: 50
              Average data rate: 5 (Mbps)
              Maximum data rate: 14 (Mbps)
    Audio Encoder
              Sample Rate: 44.100kHz
              Channels: 2
              Bits Per Sample: 16
              AAC encoder quality: high
              Data rate: 128 Kbps

The problem was an effect I had on one clip. I delted all the effects on all clips and exported without any issues. I then re-applied all the effects and this worked fine also. It was just a correupted effect on one clip that was causing the problem.
