I have been working on a wedding slideshow for days and have over 3,000 pictures in albums on iPhoto.  It suddenly will not open without upgrading to Aperture and I can't find any of my photos!!!!  I need these photos, to complete the video, not to mention I don't want to lose them. I have had trouble ever since upgrading  to Maverick.

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • How to find a selection of photos taken at different dates but imported together. I want them in the same album but they're no longer in the "last import" album.

I imported a bunch of photos taken at different dates that i wanted to group together in the same album but they are not in the "last import" album and are all just mixed in with "all photos" according to the dates they were taken and it's impossible to sift through them all to select the ones i wanted.

Sorry I'm terrible at explaining and even using my macbook haha. Let me try again. I imported some photos that I wanted to group together into an album. I forgot to create the album before importing a new set of photos which then took the place of the previous ones in the "last import" album. Is there anywhere or any way I can easily find the selection of photos I forgot to put into an album together without having to select them one by one from the "all photos" section? These would be the only pictures in my Photos application that haven't been organized into an album yet if that helps; however, these photos were not taken on the same date.

  • Select a photo in smart album then find it in library?

I have recently moved from iPhoto '09 to iPhoto 11. Before, if I found a photo in a smart album that I wanted to see in context (in its event, or in the full library), I could select that photo and then switch to the library (or other album/events/folder, etc) and it would still be selected. I couldn't necessarily find it, but by going to full screen and then out of it, I would jump to my selected photo (or photos). Now I can't find a way to do anything similar. Anyone got a tip/trick for doing this in iPhoto 11?
Here's an example of how it's useful:
I have a smart album of photos with no Place associated. I see one photo in there but I'm not sure where to place it. I would like to jump to its event to see which others it was taken with. (Let's assume, for now, that all the others in the event were given Places, so they aren't in the smart album together.)
Thanks in advance for any tips!
    -Michael

    This is what Larry is referring to;
1  - select the image in the smart album and use the Show Event option.
2 - Check the Event name when you're taken to the Event with the photo
3 - click on the All Events button at the top and you'll go to the Event in the Event mode as follows:
    Pretty straight forward.

  • When I edit and/or delete photos from an album in iPhoto is there a way to make that what happens in the folder in finder?

When I edit and/or delete photos from an album in iPhoto is there a way to make that what happens in the folder in finder? I am new to Mac. I've updated the operating system and iPhoto.

If your iPhoto Advanced preference pane is setup like this
all photos you import into the library are COPIED into the library.  Thus those photos in the folders outside of iPhoto are redundant and can be deleted to save space on your hard drive. There no need to keep those copies in the folders.
If you do have your advance preferences set as shown above you can access your photos for use outside of iPhoto according to the following User Tip by Terence Devlin which is the best treatise on how to access photos (for use outside of iPhoto):  How to Access Files in iPhoto.  Otherwise you access your photos from within iPhoto.

  • Saving order of photos in an Aperture Album

I am new to Aperture and can't find a way to save the order of my photos in an album when I try to copy them to a web gallery. It seems this is the most basic thing anyone would want to do but every time I try to copy my album into a web gallery it completely changes the order of all the photos. I have used photos from a number of different cameras so the file names vary and are not sequential. Each time I try to copy them to a web gallery Aperture seems to be trying to re-order them by file name.
My process has been to import the photos into a project from the various cameras and memory cards, then select the ones I want and put them in an album, make any adjustments and then copy the album to a web gallery for friends to see. Is this a flawed work flow?
Can anyone tell me how to lock/save the order I put the album photos in?
Do I have to rename each photo with some sort of sequential numbering system?
I'm sure the answer is blindingly simple as no-one else seems to be asking it ... but at the moment it escapes me. Any help much appreciated.

I have one album of several that are synced from my computer that I needed to have in a specific order. I finally accomplished that by naming the photos alphabetically in the order I wanted them (I didn't have many and simply placed an "a" in front of the first, "b" in the second etc). I did this on the computer and then synced them again. Note that each time you sync via iTunes, the non-Camera Roll photos on the phone will be set to match the current iTunes selection/settings so you can repeat several times if needed before you get it right.

I've read that the only cure is opening the Multitaskbar by double clicking the home button, search for the photo app, tap on it until it starts to shake and hit the little "Minus-icon" in the left corner. Then close the bar again and try again to open the photo app.

  • Saving edited photos in original album

When I edit a photo in an album ie.rotate it, it will only save the edited photo in camera roll and not in the original album, how do I stop it from saving in camera roll?

Make sure the image is not 16 bits/channel and not bitmap or indexed color.
    Image>Mode
Usually RGB Color and 8 bits/channel is the norm for saving as a jpeg.
Also if your document has layers (jpeg doesn't support layers) you would need to flatten the photo before being able to save as a jpeg.
If you want to keep the layers use a format such as psd or tif.

  • HT4910 how do i find out if my photos were saved through i cloud

how can i find out if my photos were backed up on my previous iphone

You would have to restore you new phone to the entire iCloud backup of your old phone to find out.  iCloud backups should contain photos from the camera roll.

  • Can I moved flagged photos into an album on the iPad?

    Hi there,
While on holiday I used my iPad to backup photos from my camera and I used the flag system in iPhoto for iPad to mark which ones I wanted to share. The problem is I can't see a way of moving the flagged photos into an album so I wanted to find out if it is actually possible to do this on the iPad.
    Additional info:
The photos were uploaded onto the iPad using the native Photos app and have been flagged in iPhoto
The photos are also on my iCloud account
Neither the flags nor editing applied to the photos have synced after iCloud has been updated on my Macbook
Due to the above I am unable to create a Smart Album based on flagged photos on my Macbook
In iPhoto for iPad I cannot see the filename so I am unable to discern which images to flag on my Macbook to utilise Smart Albums (I have a lot of very similar photos)
Any help would be much appreciated as this is incredibly frustrating.

There is not yet a simple solution to do what you want.  The new Photos.app in iOS 8 will bring a much better integration between iPad and Mac.
I just don't understand the point of being able to flag, favourite or tag item on the iPad  if you can't organise them into folders or easily share them between Apple's own apps.
iPhoto on the iPad is simply not yet as flexible as iPhoto on a Mac.    It is not meant for syncing libraries between Mac and iPad. You can share photos, but not albums. And the central sharing place with other apps on the iPad is the Camera Roll. To make photos valuable in other apps, share them to the Camera Roll.
In iPhoto you cannot create albums like in the Photos.app. Only smart albums based on tags. If you add a tag "Flower" to some photos, you will automatically create an album "Flower". But again, these tags will not be transferred to your Mac by the Photo Stream, you will not see them in iPhoto on your mac.
If you want to transfer the edited photos using the Photo Stream you have to add them to the Photo Stream after editing, and that requires to save them to the Camera Roll.
You could use a shared Photo Stream, but that will reduce the size of the photos.  Or select the flag photos and sync them to your Mac using iTunes Photo Sharing.  http://help.apple.com/iphoto/ipad/2.0/#blnkee26bc1f
Save photos to your computer using iTunes
Connect your iOS device to your computer.
Tap a photo, album, event, web journal, or slideshow and tap > iTunes.
Tap Selected, or change the photos you want to save (if you are saving a slideshow skip to step 4):
Select different photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap one or more photos, and tap Next.
Select a range of photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap Range, tap the first and last photos in the range, and tap Next.
Select all the photos in an album or event: Tap All.
In iTunes, click the button for your device and click Apps at the top of the window.
Below File Sharing, select iPhoto (in Apps).
Select the Shared Photos folder under iPhoto Documents.
Click Save To and select the location on your computer where you want to save the items.
To view your photos, go to the Finder and look in the location you selected above.
I am using the iPad mainly to browse and show photos in slideshows, but not, to organise and tag them. That I will do on my Mac.

i cannot open iphoto- the message I am getting says Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command-
I tries and it doesnt work!!

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Photos and photo albums disappeared, but iPhoto library still has 60 GB.

Photos and photo albums disappeared, web gallery titles remain but show (0). iPhoto library still has 60 GB size. How do I retrieve photos, events and albums. Thanks in advance.

Are you getting an "!" in the window when you try to edit a photo. The "!" means that the library has lost the file path to the original file. This happens when there has been an interruption to iPhoto while it is writing to it's database file, Library6.iPhoto. Moving, renaming files or folder inside the library package while in the Finder is another way you can get that indication. Try the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. Report back on how long it took and how many photos you have in the library so we can give other users an idea of how long it may take.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Syncing photos to iPad, showing wrong photos in every album

I have several albums in iPhoto that I regularly sync to two iOS devices.  Recently, something appears to have scrambled some the photos across the albums.  What I see on both my iOS devices are the albums from iPhoto I have selected to sync, but each of them (only on the iOS devices) have a handful of photos from other albums scattered throughout each album.
I have verified that the photos are not in those albums in iPhoto, and have taken the following steps to fix the problem:
Unchecked the albums from the iOS device in iTunes and resynced, then checked those albums in iTunes and synced again. The albums were duly removed from the iOS device, then re-added.  Again, the errant photos showed up.
Gone through the iPhoto albums carefully, selected "show hidden photos," and verified those errant photos are not showing in any of the iPhoto albums
Created new iPhoto albums with different album names, carefully moved just the photos I wanted into the new albums, checked only the new albums in iTunes and resynced the iOS devices.  This removed the old albums and added the new albums. This worked for the first sync (the new albums came across correctly), but subsequent syncs scattered the same errant photos back into the iOS device albums (not the new iPhoto albums)
So it appears something in the sync process is picking up some scrambled information and causing old photos to be displayed in the iOS albums which are not in the iPhoto albums.  But I cannot find anyplace to correct or rebuild those databases, or force only the new albums to remain clean.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

    iPhoto v 9.2.1 (628) running on a Mac Mini under OS X Lion v 10.7.2
    iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 (9A405)
    iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1 (9A405)

Found a solution, in a post to another user's question in a different thread:
Download iPhoto Library Manager (http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/) and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
That rebuild did what iPhoto's built-in rebuild apparently couldn't.  After it completed and iPhoto relaunched, I was able to resync to iOS devices and the errant photos were gone.
    Whew!
