Problem from Outlook

We have mail coming to us from Outlook. Any attachments are showing up as winmail.dat
I know it is because the client (outlook) has RTF selected but there must be a way to get it open on webmail.
Using iMS5.2hf1.21
Any workaround for this?
Don

Hi Jay,
I didn't mean to cause offence. I understand the root of the problem is Microsoft once again trying to control how we all do business.
I was simply mentioning that there are other types of servers out there that can handle the issue. The response I recieved from Tech Support was 'we have no plans to implement a work around' (not a response my supervisor liked to hear!)
For us that could force us to switch to a different system (like exchange UGGGG) This is something that I would hate to do since I find the iplanet suite very easy to work with.
Anyway, I appologize if I caused offence...that wasn't my intention.

  • Stop the wingdings-related smiley J problem from Outlook emails

Using Outlook to insert a smiley-face in an email results in a plain text portion with a proper Unicode smiley, and an HTML portion with a Wingdings J-character smiley.
This renders as a J in Firefox.
I raised this issue with the Zimbra team.
Dear Outlook team: stop it. Make this stop happening. Turn it off. Make it cease to exist. Halt.
    With utmost sincerity,
    JL

For some inexplicable reason, somebody at Microsoft thought it wise to autocorrect “:)” as a truer smiley
when composing rich text documents and/or HTML email – rendering it in a specific font face (WingDings). This is why people think you’re crazy for injecting a random “J” in emails – they don’t have the same font(s) installed on their machine! And even if you
have WingDings installed, you may only still see a J where a smile should clearly be.
So, there’s a simple fix that’ll make your emails 100% more intelligible (as far as smiles are concerned). Delete the autocompletes.
Open Microsoft Outlook (if it’s not already open).
Fire up the Options panel (found under the File ribbon).
Click open the Mail tab. You should see a “Spelling and Autocorrect…” button. The “Editor Options” panel will launch.
From there, click the “AutoCorrect Options…” button. The “AutoCorrect: English (U.S.)” properties pane is what you should see next.
Under the default “AutoCorrect” tab, look to the “Replace text as you type” section.
    Click the “Delete” button.
Repeat these steps for the other smiley autoreplacements.

  • TS3999 Uploading Problems from Outlook 2007 to iCloud

Having setup iCloud (only because iTunes stopped synchronising my iPad & iPhone) I find I now have 5 calendars in Outlook.
I have put entries in all but nothing uploads to iCloud, even after hitting the Refresh Button. I have followed Apples troubleshooting but nothing.
I hav a Windows 7 PC (SP1) running Outlook 2007. Any advice would be very apreciated as I am loosing the will to live.
    Regards
    John

I fell your pain and no thereis no good solution to this nasty issue. However you can view your Outlooknotes on your iOS devices but I had to do a sync via PC iTunes and sync cable to each device (iPhone 4 and iPad 2) not a very good solution (no support for OTA iCloud sync, LAME!). Then when the Outlook notes arrive on my iOS device in the Notes app its under a separatefolder "From My PC". All notes generated on your iOS devices are in the folder [email protected] or iCloud folder.  Further more if you go to your iCloud webpage you will only see the notes you generated from your iOS devices (if youhave Notes sync turned on) and you can't edit them nor can you create new notes from the iCloud webpage interface! Extremely sad and downright terrible migration from Mobile Me.  These are simple text notes this should not be so difficult but Apple chose to treat them the same as email messages basically and made a flashy "Notes App" just like the new iOS 5 "RemindersApp" same thing.
If you’re like me and your looking to go away from your Outlook Notes and just want to put all notes into the Apple Notes then you need to use one of your iOS devices and manually cut and past the notes one at a time from your "From My PC" folder then create a new one on in your iCloud folder. This is also so darn ********! You should be able to select all do a copy then go to the iCloud folder and past, done (but you can't)! With hundreds of Notes collected over the years you’re not likely going to manually open each one select all, copy close and create a new note in the iCloud folder....  and by the way I'm not looking to load Evernot at this time so stop suggesting exporting my Outlook notes to Evertnote, this is not a solution to this issue.
    Apple are you listening!?

    Hi ,
There is an option of embedding index for faster search while converting email to a PDF .
However I am not sure that will serve your purpose or not .
I would recommend you to get in touch with Microsoft support as well .
Meanwhile I'll work on it and get back to you in case I get a desired solution .

  • "changes to the public group membership cannot be saved" error from Outlook 2010 users, but no problem with Outlook 2003.

We have the exact same issue as this but our groups are already universal security group and we still have problem:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-NZ/exchangesvrmigration/thread/2c953cb4-5411-4f72-beb9-6b4c16fd6685
The distribution-groups were upgraded to Exchange 2010.  User A can update the group from Outlook 2003 or OWA 2010 but not from Outlook 2010.  Anyone know the solution?
    thanks

    Hi lilyl,
For this issue, please refer to this document:
How to Manage Groups that I already own in Exchange 2010?
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2009/11/18/3408844.aspx
So what does the "Changes to the distribution list membership cannot be saved. You do not have sufficient permission to perform
this operation on this object." error mean, when you are connecting to an Exchange 2010 server?
It means Exchange 2010 is doing its job - as designed...
    Thanks,

Unfortunately - this happens with Outlook generated messages on occasion. Sometimes even Entourage can't cope. I find that the Gmail web interface does a pretty good job of dealing with messages that nearly every other email client fails with.
Equally, there are occasionally problems for Outlook users when they receive messages from Thunderbird users.
I am convinced that the problem lies in Outlook, and that there is little you can do about it.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Perhaps I am wrong.... (hint for someone else to come in with a solution).

I have just exported my vCard files from Outlook to import to iCloud and it will import because there was a problem reading my vCard.  Any ideas welcome

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Try exporting and importing them in small bundles, there may be a problem with one or more specific cards. If you are able to isolate them, you could then import those particular cards manually.

  • Contact Sync problem - Syncing contacts TO Outlook 2013 stopped working, whilst syncing contact FROM Outlook 2013 to iPhone still works.

    I've tried everything...
iPhone version: 5S with latest OS (v.8.1).
Outlook version 2013, on Windows 7, latest iTunes version (12.x)
I prefer NOT to use iCloud (as the representation of iCloud contacts in Outlook ignores the contacts' folder division, which is important to me).
I have an Exchange server, though the sync is directed to my local Outlook client.
All other settings looks good (again, syncing FROM Outlook TO iPhone works, but I need vice versa).
I've tried syncing with closed Outlook client. Tried resetting configuration, tried moving to iCloud and back etc.. All, just to see the problem persist. Newly created contacts on the PC get synced to the iPhone, while newly created contacts ON the iPhone, does not get synced to Outlook.
    Please HELP.

I have the same problem, when I sync the contacts they pass well from outlook to my iphone, but not the way around, indeed it changes my iphone contacts information and dismisses all the inputs that I already made in the iphone.

  • Problem sending mail from OUTLOOK

    Hi !
I use the following code to send mails from outlook:
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(new String[]{"cmd.exe","/c", "start","mailto:[email protected]?body=test"});
and it works, but my problem is that if I add any other attribute like cc,subject only the first one it's done, I mean, If I do:
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(new String[]{"cmd.exe","/c", "start","mailto:[email protected]?subject=subject_test&body=test"});
subject will appear properly but body will be empty.
    Where is the problem??
    Thanks!!

  • Sync contacts from outlook 2007 to gmail problem

Hello everybody! I have an issue when I use the sync zone in order to sync contacts from outlook 2007 to gmail with pc companion 2.10.065
The problem is that some certain fields (like "work 2" number) do not sync at all.
Other fields (like the "webpage" field) sync on some contacts and do not sync on some other contacts.
Is there a workaround on that?

I have just tested this and it seems just as you say that any second number of the same category won't be synced. I think this is a limitation at Google not matching/supporting the exact same PIM filed's.
However I could not replicate the problem with the web page field.

  • Problems opening attachments from outlook

This week I have been unable to open attachments from Outlook 2010. I use Firefox as my browser and for some reason when I click on an attachment it is downloaded into Firefox. This has only just started to happen. If I try to open a PDF document I would
expect it to just open as a PDF rather than a Firefox download. How can I resolve this issue?

    Hi Tweek,
Might be you are working with disabled attachment preview option. Follow the given path and turn on it:
File >> Options >> Trust Center >> Trust Center Settings (under Microsoft Outlook Trust Center) >> Attachment Handling
If the above solution does not help, then change the default program for opening attachment. Make a right click on the PDF Document and select
“Open With” option. Choose the default program and set it to as
“Always the selected program to open this kind of file”.

Note: Make sure that Adobe Acrobat should be installed in your machine.
