Problem gathering files from PC.

Hi,
Since some time I´ve got a problem with gathering files from my PC to iTunes.
When I click "File" and then "Add file to library", iTunes disapeares and I have to start iTunes again.
But then the faillure happens again and again.
"Add folder to library" is working normal.
I completely removed iTunes from my PC, but that didn´t help.
When I had iTunes newly installed, even the "old" library was still there, I expected this to be empty by new install.
Does anyone know what the problem can be and how to restore iTunes to normal?

I had a look at what you suggested, but my problem is not the iTunes library.
I have a seperate list of songs on my PC, the songs are downloaded from the net.
Untill 2 weeks ago, there was no problem to take 1 song from the list to put in the library by clicking; "File" >> "Add file to library".
Now I have to make a map first and copy this to the library. It takes more time and I just wonder why it doesn´t work with "Add file..." anymore.
Copying songs, videoclips or pictures to my iPod, from the library, is working well.
I hope you understand what I mean, my English is not all that good.
I couldn´t find the right answer in what you suggested.

I have problems transferring files from PC to Mac, and from Mac to Mac. PC to PC is fine. Nothing but problems with the Mac. One example:
While working on my PC, I open shared folders on an external HDD connected to the Mac. I click on paste to move the files. I get an error after a few seconds to a minute of trying to move several files from my PC Win 7 to Mac OS Maverick, that there is a file already at the destination on Mac. This statement is true, but it was just put there because I am copying them over in that same action. It reads 0Kb and wasn't there before I started. Then I get an error: The Action Cannot be completed because the folder is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again..
Whether I click on it a bunch right of way or wait, it still takes about 45 seconds. I have to do it with every file and it only happens when copying from a PC to Mac. I have even restarted both computers so nothing is using any files. If I copy one file at a time, I don't get any error.
So I have one file to move, no problem. If move 5 files, The first will go fine, but it shows all 5 files in folder at once. All other files than the first show 0kb. I get the file already existing error once it starts the second file transfer, and I select move and replace. Then I get The Action Cannot be completed because the folder is open in another program. I wait or click repeatedly until it starts to move file. That file will then show something other than 0kb. When it is done, the error process starts all over. I tried checking the PC with unlocker, but the files do not show themselves locked on the PC.

Its not only French. Even certain characters in English will come across as gobblydegook from 1 platform to another. I see this in emails that likely were composed in Word & the characters don't come across.
Not sure if this is still true, but years ago someone explained that there is a standard character set & then I think its extended characters & those vary from platform to platform or language to language, etc.

I am having a problem moving files from an imac in one location to an imac inanother location. I have tried using Dropbox which is installed in both locations but when i drad a file ino yhe app it becomes an alias. When I get to the other location it says I can't open the file because the " original application that created it is not present". This is despite the fact that the app that created both files is installed in both computers. If I use the Public folder in the idisc, when I get to the other location the file isn't there. Am I forgetting to turn something on or off? Should I manually sync the Public folder and if so how? Thanks

Problem uploading files from Dreamweaver CS3 to Yahoo

I am having a problem uploading files from Dreamweaver CS3 to
an FTP site on Yahoo.
The error message I get is "No response from server.
Reconnecting..."
I am able to connect to Yahoo using other FTP clients
successfully.
I am able to connect to Yahoo using Dreamweaver MX 2004
successfully.
I tried playing with various settings (i.e. passive ftp,
server compatibility options) but to no avail.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Problems transfering files from PC to Harddrive on Airport Extreme.. Help!

I upgraded to an Airport Extreme to help speed up my wireless and access a LACIE 1tb harddrive between two computers - a Windows XP 64bit machine and a new macbook.
Everything works great except I cannot copy large files from the PC to the harddrive even though I can stream movies off the harddrive to the same computer and transfer small files. When I try to copy a large file I get "The specified network name is no longer available" after about 30sec even though its actually connected (I can browse and watch a movie after I get the error). The large files do show up on the HDD after getting the error but they are not working files. So frustrating.
I have read that it could be the 7.4.2 firmware but have tried going back to 7.4.1 with the same results. I have also tried backing up the Airport and restoring to default settings. Also tried installing the airport software on the PC with no luck. I am considering trying to format the drive from FAT32 to the default apple one but really don't want to do this.
Anyone have any suggestions? This is got to be the most frustrating problem I have encountered since starting my mac transition...

So I plugged in another 250gb hdd that I have lying around, formatted with my macbook and successfully backed up over 130gb worth of files via time machine. Also, tried transferring some "large files" to the same drive via the PC with blazing speed and everything works great.
So it turns out that a harddrive with FAT32 doesnt work properly with a PC.
I will be formatting my other 1tb drive now and I suspect will have similar results but this issue is odd and frustrating to say the least.

Problem transferring files from PC to MP3 pla

I recently have had problems transferring music from my computer to my Zen Touch.
I am using firmware version .0.03 Zen Touch and version 2.02.05 of Creative MediaSource Organizer. I have been able to transfer files perfectly fine for years up until a few days ago. When attempting to transfer an album, I get the following two error messages:
"Error: unable to download file. This file format is invalid."
"Error: There is not enough disk space at the destination for this
transfer."
The first error baffles me. Every file is in mp3 format and plays fine on my computer. I have no explanation as to why I am getting this error except that my Zen Touch is dieing. :-(
I have figured out the reason for the second error but I have absolutely no clue why it happens. When transferring the mp3s, the album folder grows to a ridiculous size. A 90 MB folder got changed to 9.23 GB!!!! Half of the songs on the album became -2 GBs each while the other half remained normal and completely unchanged. The songs that were greatly increased in file size still played fine on my PC however there would be 000s of minutes of static following the song.
The music already on my mp3 player still plays fine. The only problems I have been having is with the transferring of new music to the player.
So, I'm hoping someone has experienced this issue and has been able to fix it.

Problem exporting file from motion 5

Hello,
I am trying to export a file from Motion 5 and whe I play the quicktime back, everything is jumbled and I can't read it. When I am working in Motion and scrubbing along through the file everything looks fine. Can someone please help me out?

For starters, what's the version number for Motion and What OS are you on? Are you up to date or using an older version? Next, what format are you exporting to (ProRes, H.265, etc.)? Finally does this happen with every project or just this particular one. Can you post a screen shot of what the problem looks like? There are a lot of possibilites to consider, the more info you can provide the better luck there will be in someone maybe helping you with a solution.

Problem uploading file from mobile device to tomcat server

I'm designing a site using JSP for wireless devices like PDAs, Smartphones etc, basically any mobile device that has browser capabilities. There's a page where the user is allowed to upload a file from the mobile device, which works perfectly fine when I access the site using a PC. But when I try to upload a file from a mobile device, ( I tried using a Nokia 6680 ) , there wasn't any error but the file just wasn't stored in my server.

        }Basically I store the file uploaded in the tomcat server and the path of the file is saved in a table in MySQL.
When I upload a file using a PC, the tomcat console displays the content type file name yada yada yada. However, when I upload a file from the Nokia 6680, I get just the content type then things just stop there and nothing else happens. No file name no file size whatsoever. The path of the file is not inserted into MySQL and the file is not stored in the server.
Can anyone please enlighten me on this issue and hopefully gimme a solution to this problem? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Problems transfering files from iMac to iMac via External HD

I recently bought a new iMac. I have been trying to transfer all my files from my old G5 Intel iMac onto my new one with my external HD.
My first problem was that when trying to copy the files onto my new Mac I was prompted with a message saying that I didnt have the privileges to do this! After a quick look around various forums I tried to edit the folders by going to 'Get Info' then changing all the tabs to read & write in the sharing and permissions section.
After a few hours, still no joy!
So I just tried to edit the 'Sharing & Permissions' of the files on my old Mac, and then copy them again to my HD to see if that would work, but now I am prompted with a message saying
'The finder cannot complete the operation because some data in ".DS_Store" could not be read or written.
(error code -36)
Can anyone help?
Or suggest an easier way?
All I am trying to do is make all my files 'read & write' so I can put them onto my new Mac.

Both your computers are Macs, so choose +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+.
It does no harm to have the Mac OS 9 drivers on there, but if that drive will never be connected to a Mac with Mac OS 9, you can uncheck it.
If that drive was previously formatted for Windows, instead of using the Erase tab, you may want to go to the Partition tab. Reset the +Volume Scheme+ to *1 Partition*. Click on the Options button. Make sure the +Partition Map Scheme+ is NOT set to +Master Boot Record+. If one of your iMacs is a G5 (PowerPC) iMac, and you will not be using this external drive to boot your new Intel iMac, +Apple Partition Map+ would be the best choice. If you want may want to use this drive to boot your Intel iMac at some point, and your G5 iMac has Tiger (10.4) or later, you can use +GUID Partition Table+ instead.

Problems coping files from RAID

I have a 4TB RAID. The system freezes when I try to copy files from it.
I have used Disk Warrior to rebuild the drive. No errors or problems.
But when I attempt to copy files over it stops and freezes.
I have attempted to use Disk Warrior to verify files but Disk Warrior freezes too.
There must be a corrupted file or something. Is there a program that won't freeze when it hits a corrupted file?

My sympathies - I've hit similar problems while trying to copy files from my old Apple RAID across to a new LaCie RAID - the former hosted on a G5 Tiger server, the latter on our new XServe (10.6.4 at the time I last tried).
Whether copying via Finder or by using the ditto command from Terminal, it would get so far then crash/hang. Initially I tried via Ethernet, then via Firewire, both from the source and destination machines. No noticeable difference - all attempts failed at some point, and not always at the same point (meaning I could presumably rule out corrupted files). The furthest I got was about 100GB out of the 5TB I need to move
Whoopee - yet another intermittent problem to try sorting out When I can get time on it again, I'll try with 10.6.5, but very doubtful it will help.
I desperately need to solve this problem fairly soon, as I'm forced to run with the old RAID in the meantime, which I can no longer buy the spare drive modules for (cheers for that Apple!) and none left. If more than one module goes down I'll be truly stuffed.

If/when I find the cause & solution, will post about it here. Anyone else had this problem? I didn't get as far as checking system logs etc as I didn't have the time for all that. I might just give up on SL and install plain old Leopard on the new XServe - will probably be a much quicker solution, as chief suspect is SL (though, to be fair, it could be the new LaCie RAID I suppose.)

Permissions problem with files from a backup (Timemachine)

I had to re-image the Mac. I took the back up I had from the time machine HDD and put it back on the users AD acccount (which has Admin rights). The user has no problems with the files, but when the user tries to drag to the trash bin, it wants the you the authenticate with admin account and password in order to move to trash bin, but if she creates a new file she has no problems moving files to the trash bin. So the users account has admin rights to the Mac. The permissions on files from her time machine back up are R/W and any new ones she creates are R/W to her account. I can't seem to figure out why this is happening. any suggestions?

iTunes do not support all video formats so it is likely the files you are trying to add are unsupported.

Problem copying file from MacOSX 10.6.7 to WindosXP shared folder

I recently switched to mac os and I need to frequently copy files from mac to Windows XP shared network folder. I am getting following error

You mount the remote windows directory and copy files conveniently.
mount -t cifs -o username=<win user>,password=<win pwd> //winserver/dir /winserver/dir
where <win user> : Remote Windows Login Id
<win pwd>: Windows login pwd
//winserver/dir : Remote windows server and directory, you would like to access. You need to share it before mounting in MAC.
/winserver/dir : Local diectory. You need to create it before mounting.

Problem downloading files from some site

when I try to download from some site,for example this:

or from sourceforge.net nothing is downloaded and on the window of safari, in the title bar, appears for example: "vlc-0.8.4.dmg.gif 1x1 pixel".
what can I do?

Hi Fillipo,
By the sounds of things you have NetBarrier installed.
Check your ad-blocking settings to see if it's blocking the download of files from some of these sites.

Problem downloading files from flash movie?

For some reason, on my Mac Book Pro (running OSX 10.5.4) I am unable to download a file from a flash movie (.swf). All other macs in the office are capable, and I can download files from other sources, just not from a flash movie. It allows me to choose where to save the file, but when the download starts, the progress bar remains at 0%.
Does anyone know what causes this?

There's no such thing as Final Cut HD 5.0.4. If what you really have is Final Cut Pro 5.0.4, then you should be able to capture and edit HDV. But, you haven't told us what camcordr you have, so it's difficult to help.
The usual procdure for resolving this situation looks something like this:
1) With the camcorder powered on and connected, open System Profiler, and see if it sees the camcorder. (SP is in the /Applications/Utilities folder.)
2) If SP sees it, then with FCP not running, power down the camcorder, then start Final Cut again. When the window opens saying FCP can't find your HDV device, power on the camcorder and click continue. Try it again.
3) If Log & Capture doesn't see it, then Quit FCP, shut down the Mac, power down the camcorder. Wait 20 seconds. Power up the camcorder, boot up again, open FCP & try it.
4) If L&C still doesn't see it, then trash your FCP preferences, and try it again.
5) Report back here.
EDIT: You are using the HDV Easy Setup, aren't you?
