Problem geocoding addresses in Puerto Rico

We're using the Location REST API to geocode addresses and have run into some problems with addresses in Puerto Rico.
https://dev.virtualearth.net/REST/v1/Locations/US/PR/00765-9236/Vieques/HC%201%20Box%209368?includeNeighborhood=1&key=....
This gives us
"geocodePoints":[
"type":"Point",
"coordinates":[
39.450000762939453,
-98.907997131347656
"calculationMethod":"Rooftop",
"usageTypes":[
"Display"
A rooftop level lat/long in Kansas!
I've tried a suggestion to replace US with PR and not include the adminDistrict (state) field by both omitting it completely from the URL and by using the "-" placeholder. Those attempts return zero results.
How do we geocode Puerto Rican addresses?

Actually that request returns a match for the US, not Kansas. It just happens that the location happens to be in Kansas. Personally I hate the structured address format as it is a bit too restrictive. I recommend instead turning your address into a single
string query. This will make the geocoder parse your address for you and returns much better results. For instance, changing your request to this:
http://dev.virtualearth.net/REST/v1/Locations?query=Vieques 000765-9236, Puerto Rico&incl=queryParse&key=...
This request returns two results in Puerto Rico.

  • Can't create iTunes acc! - Anyone else from Puerto Rico?- Cust Serv $uck$!

I've been trying to create an account for iTunes, mostly to download the album artwork to my library. But I haven't been able because iTunes billing system will not recognize my credit card, giving me different error messages such as "information does not match with bank's records", "please give use a US issued credit card", "fields were omitted", etc. I've been trying to get some assistance from the customer service representatives but all they do is give me some canned messages and basically say that Puerto Rico is not a "state" of the USA and that we, Puerto Ricans, cannot download music from iTunes, even though I know a lot of people in Puerto Rico that can, with credit cards issued locally.
If you are having the same problems, please post here to show them that it's not an isolated situation, even if you are not from Puerto Rico.
This is my first post, so if I'm breaking any rules or anything similar, I would appreciate that you contact me so I get the chance to amend things.
Here's a copy of all e-mail conversations so far with the customer service representatives, which proves that they aren't paying attention to the customer.

Thank you for taking some time to review this situation and trying to work with this. Still, the following is happening:
    1) I have been trying to register my credit card for about one week by now, therefore, I doubt that every time I've tried to register the bank servers were busy.
    2) I contacted my bank regarding this situation with my credit card and they said that the card is fine.
    3) I contacted my bank regarding this other situation with my credit card and iTunes to confirm that the information I have and they have is the same, and it is.
Can't it be Apple's billing system?
Why is it up to us, the customer, to go through all this problems without any assistance from some customer representative, verifying why the system says the information is not accurate, contacting my bank to verify if everything is okay, verifying if Apple's servers have been busy, etc.
Come on, man, there's got to be a supervisor, manager or someone able to help me with this.
So far I'm really sorry of deciding for an iPod instead of a Zune or some other music player.
PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS THROUGHLY, you'll see that most of the answers you have given me have already been given or I had just given information regarding it.

    Dear David,
I'm sorry that you haven't been able to make an account on the iTunes Store. After reviewing with our technicians I can confirm that residents of Puerto Rico are able to use the US iTunes store.
If you are still unable to create an account, it is possible that the iTunes Store has been unable to verify an authorization from your financial institution. There are several possible reasons for this:
    1) Your financial institution's servers have been busy. Consider trying again at another time.
    2) There is an issue with your card. Consider using a different card or contacting your financial institution to advise them of the problem.
    3) Your billing name or address does not match the address listed on your credit card statement. Any discrepancy in punctuation, abbreviation, or capitalization can cause errors, which might prevent you from purchasing from the iTunes Store. If you moved, or if your zip code changed recently, ask your financial institution to make sure their records are up to date and match exactly what you are entering as your billing information.
Please follow these steps to confirm or update your account information:
    1) Go to Apple's My Info page: <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://myinfo.apple.com
    2) Choose your country and preferred language from the pop-up menus.
    3) Enter your iTunes Store account name and password and then click Log In (or Continue).
    4) At the My Info Welcome page, click Address Book on the left. Confirm or edit your information.
    5) Click Phone Numbers on the left. Make sure the area codes and phone numbers are entered correctly in their respective fields.
    6) Click Save Changes.
Try placing an order on the iTunes Store. If the iTunes Store still cannot obtain an authorization for your card, you won't be able to make purchases at the iTunes Store with that particular card. You can use a different card or one of the following payment methods:
    - PayPal
    - iTunes Gift Certificates
    - iTunes Gift Cards
You can purchase iTunes Gift Certificates here:

What's up with you people? Stop using the same canned messages and read the whole conversation, PLEASE!
That's almost the same answer Vanessa gave to my initial e-mail. Then, Andres apologized because Apple does consider Puerto Rico part of the United States and even includes Puerto Rico as a "state" in the fields of registration for MyInfo and iTunes.
Puerto Rico is a territory of the USA and we, Puertorricans, are considered citizens and residents of the USA, so far that the same rates apply to the USPS Post Office, that we don't need to get through customs in domestic flights, that we don't needed a passport to get in and out of the USA until the new Patriot Act provision that started now on January 1st, 2007.
Will someone really get to this and answer all my questions in their rightful way?
So far the service seemed to be good because you were answering in a timely manner, but I just figured out that all you are doing is using canned messages and/or doing some "copy/paste" to your "concerned and dear customers".
PLEASE get through with this and get me a complete answer.
No thanks in advance, until I get what I need, especially after spending so much money on an iPod and so much time through your forums, etc.

    Dear David,
Thank you for your interest in the iTunes Store. You may browse any country's iTunes Store, preview audio and video clips, and even download podcasts. However, residents of Puerto Rico may not purchase from the ITunes Store at this time.
Items in any particular country's iTunes Store are available only for distribution to customers who reside in that country and who use a credit card, debit card, iTunes Gift Certificate, or iTunes Gift Card issued in that country.
For example, the U.S. iTunes Store can only sell to U.S. residents using credit cards or debit cards that were issued in the U.S., or iTunes Gift Certificates or Gift Cards purchased in the U.S.
Although I cannot comment on future expansion plans of the iTunes Store, please rest assured that Apple is committed to bringing the iTunes Store to people around the world.

Thank you very much for going further in your review and reply to my initial concern.
I was able to create an account through the MyInfo page. I was able to log in to iTunes, but it then asks me for my billing information. I'm trying to register two credit cards I have from a local bank. I was not able to register any of these. The system keeps telling me that the bank information is not the same as the one I entered. I tried several variations and none was accepted. I'm trying this with my bank statement on hand to match the information perfectly and I even called the bank to confirm if I have all the correct information, as in their systems, which they confirmed.
It appears that iTunes will not accept my credit cards in any way, even with my bank assisting me with the different variation that iTunes may be asking for.
Is there any way you may help me to register my credit card to my account? Because, after all, having an account created through the MyInfo page did little since I still can't download album artwork nor purchase music.
On the other side, I tried using my Paypal account which is Verified and with a Confirmed address, but iTunes says that it cannot verify the account.
It appears that iTunes has some kind of problem with accounts from Puerto Rico.
Again, thanks in advance for your help and attention!

    Dear David,
Please accept my apologies for the miscommunication in our previous response. As you have confirmed, residents of Puerto Rico may create an account by choosing "PR" from the State menu on the US iTunes Store.
If receive an error when creating an iTunes Store account, you can create an Apple ID first by visiting Apple's My Info page:
    http://myinfo.apple.com
After creating your Apple ID, connect to the iTunes Store and sign in using your new account name and password. You may then provide billing information and begin downloading album artwork for your iTunes library.
Please note that your billing name and address must match the address listed on your credit card statement exactly. Any discrepancy in punctuation, abbreviation, or capitalization can cause errors, which might prevent you from creating an account.
Alternatively, you may create an account with an iTunes Gift Card purchased from a local retailer. For help creating an account in this manner, please refer to the following article:

    Hi!
Thank you very much for your reply to this concern, but this answer does not convince me since the iTunes registering page adds Puerto Rico as a "state" of the USA in the drop-in box / field, plus I know a lot of people here in Puerto Rico that have an account registered in iTunes with a credit card issued by a local bank that are able to make purchases.
My main interest in having an iTunes account is being able to download the CD’s artwork, which, apparently, can only be done if I have an account registered in iTunes. As an option, is there any way to create an account without having "purchasing" privileges for this matter?
I am really disappointed with the service and options restricted by Apple for this matter, specially when they have so many authorized dealers and resellers in Puerto Rico, which is not a "Channel Island" but a USA territory or property, with USA citizenship, with USA residency, USA currency, with USA post office, with USA customs, with USA courts, etc. Another question, since it was not offered as an option, if I buy iTunes gift cards, which I can buy almost anywhere here on the island, can I use it for purchasing purposes or would I not have this privilege because I live here?
I would really appreciate further evaluation of this concern because I believe that I may indeed register at iTunes and make purchases being in Puerto Rico with a credit card from a local bank since, like I explained before, I know, personally (my brother, my brothers-in-law, etc.), a lot of people here in Puerto Rico that have an account registered in iTunes with a credit card issued by a local bank that are able to make purchases.
Thank your for your time and attention.

To the previous user, thank you for anything you may do to help with this, but I understand that I clearly stated that I was not expecting help from a customer service representative but to get a number of people going to the same or a similar situation which may be later used as an example to Apple for them to work with this.
Here's an update on what's being going on so far...
Man, I am still NOT satisfied.
I talked today with my bank regarding this situation and they told me that they have had several concerns with other customers about this and that they have done everything in their power before to make sure that iTunes works, accepting their credit cards, but that it's iTunes billing system the one with restrictions to accept these cards; in other words, that their cards are okay in their systems to be accepted by iTunes, but that iTunes refuse to accept them.
I believe that either Apple is discriminating against Puerto Rican customers, Puerto Rican banks or they are just not willing to go the extra mile to solve this billing situation.
So far it seems that you do not understand my principal need, which is downloading album artwork, not buying music.
I just received my iPod and am hesitating to open it because of all of this.
Again, service has been poor and attention to details worst.
If there's nothing else you may do to help me, I would appreciate to be forwarded to a supervisor or manager or director to present them this concern.
    Thanks.

Greetings, and thank you for the help so far.
Still, I am being unable to register my credit card. When I enter my VISA's security code (either of the two I have), which consists of three digits from the back of the card, the system gives me a message saying "Please enter a valid Security Code".
I tried, just in case, to use a dummy security code, such as 123 or 000 or 999 and the system gives me a message saying "Credit card processing is temporary unavailable. Please try again later".
It's funny and/or weird to me because I never get the message "Credit card processing is temporary unavailable..." when using my VISA's security code, nor I get the message "Please enter a valid Security Code" when using a dummy security code.
What's up with that? Any further help you may provide me with this?
Please, anyone that reads this, READ ALL THE PREVIOUS MESSAGES to understand all that we've been going through.

    Dear David,
Thank you for the information you provided.
I have examined your Apple ID, editing your address to the USPS standard format that iTunes requires.
Here's how to access the iTunes Store using your Apple ID and your reset password:
    1) Make sure you're using the latest version of iTunes. It's available free of charge from the Apple website at:
    <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
    2) Open iTunes.
    3) From the Store menu, choose Sign In.
    4) Click the Apple radio button, enter your Apple ID, "[email protected]" and the password "apple0107", and click Sign In.
    5) You will see a dialog saying this: "This Apple ID has not yet been used with the iTunes Store. Please review your account information." Click Review and follow the onscreen instructions to sign in with the account.
Here are a few things to keep in mind:
    - If you forget the password for your Apple ID, you can reset it via Apple's iForgot website:
    http://iforgot.apple.com
    - If you wish to change your Apple ID, visit Apple's My Info site at http://myinfo.apple.com and sign in with the current Apple ID. Note that if your Apple ID is a .Mac member name, you won't be able to change it.
Should you continue to experience difficulty accessing or creating an iTunes Store account, please reply to this email with a detailed description of the problem as well as the exact text (if possible) of any error messages you receive.

    Dear David,
I understand that you would like assistance in creating your iTunes Store account. If you would like, the iTunes Store team can review the information in your Apple ID to ensure that it is in the proper format and does not contain information that may cause our system to refuse to create an iTunes Store account for you. If your account contains such information, we can then edit it for you.
For security reasons, Apple requires that you verify the billing address associated with your account " [email protected]" before making any account modifications. Please reply with your billing address and your permission to reset the account's password.

  • Purchasing music from Puerto Rico

I've been purchasing music from iTunes since I bought my first iPod a couple of years ago. I the course of this time, I have spent Hundreds of dollars in music.
Recently, my credit card was stolen, so I had to cancel that CC Number and get a new one. When I changed the information for the credit card in iTunes, it automaticly stoped allowing me to download music. The error I receive is that they need a "Valid U.S. Address".
The address I had in the previous credit card was from Puerto Rico as well and I never had any problems with it. As a matter of fact, most of my colleagues in the office are allowed to download using the same billing address I use.
    Will someone please advise???
I work for a publishing company and I respect copyrights and really like to keep it that way, but if Apple doesn't allow me to purchase from them, I will have to go with Limewire or some other "Free" music download site.

  • IPhone is available to work in PUERTO RICO?

I'm interest to buy an iphone to domicile it in P.R. Do it will work properly?. AT&T has already excellent coverage but the stores cannot sold or activate with area code of Puerto Rico. My doubt is that if I can activate it in US and bring it to Puerto Rico, it was working ok?. And if when AT&T could activate numbers with area code 787(PR),if it will be possible to change the number that had of US the PR one that I'm already use?

I activated mine from Oklahoma to use it in PR. There
aren't any long distance/roaming charges since
National plans include PR and US Virgin Islands in
AT&T's coverage area. You can even activate it from
PR provided you have an US address (friend or
family), as soon it is activated you can change the
address back to a local one as I did. However you
won't be able to change the area code to 787 'til the
iPhone is released in the island. Im back in the

  • America's top number one wireless service...does not work in Puerto Rico

Please come back to Puerto Rico. I have been a member for over ten years. I live in Ohio  and will have to relocate to Puerto Rico.  My daughter is enrolled in college to become a school teacher in Puerto Rico. My family plan is not working well in Puerto Rico. I am paying for a family plan, (here in Ohio) and my daughter has two phones in Puerto Rico. They are not working. I had called Verizon Support, and was told that the phones must be mailed back to (Ohio)  me here in the states to be reactivated. Verizon phones cannot be activated in Puerto Rico. I prefer only Verizon, which is why I have not switched to any other provider. But, because Verizon does not have towers or businesses in Puerto Rico, even though we have 4G phones, we now have no service in Puerto Rico.   I am stuck with the choices of AT&T, T-Mobile, or Straight Talk from Wal-Mart, or the WORSE are the wireless and Internet services of Puerto Rico, Claro.. Claro has outages for DAYS and still expect full payment, regardless of how many days lost for service. Claro does not credit your account even if you had an outage for a week; you are still billed for the full month.  It is difficult to avoid this company in Puerto Rico. This is a message to CEO of Verizon...please bring your business back to Puerto Rico. When people asked my daughter what service she uses, they were excited when she said that she uses Verizon. But were disappointed when she said that her account is back in (Ohio) the states, there are no stores here. I have to send (AGAIN) two new phones activated here in the states back to Puerto Rico, so that my daughter can still use our Verizon Family Plan. There is nothing Verizon Support can do.  Once I move to Puerto Rico, there will be no one to send our phones to in (Ohio) the states to reactivate for our Verizon Family Plan. The phone service works for about three or four months, (in Ohio) than there is no service at all. Please bring America's top number wireless service back to Puerto Rico. Or Make some kind of deal with the wireless tower owners in Puerto Rico, so people that even visit Puerto Rico can use your phone service. Thank you for reading my request

Our home line has had no dial tone for two days now.  When a repair was requested, we received a commitment of 8/8.  That timing was not sufficient.  I updated the repair request on line indicating that we needed the repair by today.  I called this morning and a recording told me that Verizon was committed to repair the phone by 8pm tonight.  Well, 9:30pm and no Verizon.  I tried calling with my cell phone and sat on the phone for over 30 minutes.  Either no one was home or it was past business hours.  In any event, here we sit with no home phone service.  We are elderly.  My husband has a heart condition.  I am grateful for our cell phones, not Verizon.  What if we had a real emergency and didn't have cell phones?  This is not customer service.  We never even received a phone call or an email as we requested on the repair status.  So sit another day or maybe more.  Frustrated in NJ.  P.S. Our experience with My Verizon is it sends you round and round and round with no real solution to your problem.  Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Using AppleCare and AppleCare+  in Puerto Rico?

This summer I start medical school in Puerto Rico, and I plan on buying a MacBook Pro and an iPad.  I there are several authorized service providers in PR, including one in the town I will be attending medical school. I would be purchasing it all here in Indiana, but I wanted to know if I would be able to use my AppleCare at the places in PR.  I imagine that the AC for the computer would be no problem, as that service is worldwide, but what I'm really curious about is AC+.  If I drop my iPad and it breaks, will my AC+ be honored at the PR service provider?  Or will I have to send it back to Indiana and have my family take it in?
I searched, but most questions concerning PR seemed to be years old.  Maybe there's an update.

    Hi Reese;
i am new here and looking for the same info. I did found this:

the first lines DO have what we are looking for:
Apple or its affiliated companies may offer the AppleCare Protection Plan for Mac (“APP for Mac”), AppleCare Protection Plan for iPod (“APP for iPod”), AppleCare Protection Plan for Apple Display (“APP for Apple Display”), and AppleCare Protection Plan for Apple TV (“APP for Apple TV”) in the following countries:

  • Texting someone who lives in Puerto Rico?

I would like to text a close friend who lives in Puerto Rico, but I'm trying to figure out if this will be charged on my bill or not. I have the 700 minuted plan with Unlimited texting. I'm seeing lots of different answers. Someone it said texts sent to the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Us Virgin Islands is considered Domestic. But I need to be absolutely sure about this. My dad would kill me if I charged a lot to our bill. Does anyone have information on this?
Would be nice to get an answer on this :/

Sending a text message from the U.S. to your international friends has never been easier. All you have to do is determine if the non-U.S. mobile number you are trying to send a message to is accessible through a participating international carrier. Then simply create your message and send. There is a charge of $0.25 per address for every text message you send and $0.20 for every text message you receive. These text messages do not qualify for Friends and Family or any other messaging bundle, feature, promotion or offer.

  • Incident Report at Puerto Rico Store # 1118

Today, February 10, 2014 at approximately 2:05 pm the following incident took place at your PR store #1118:
While at your store I selected a product (Samsung Micro USB Connector). In order to comply with your store regulations, I left the selected product at a close cash register before getting access to the bathroom.
Once I used the bathroom I proceeded to the cash register to pay for the selected product. To my surprise the product box was tampered by one of you employee (Mrs. Jennifer {Removed per Forum Guidelines}).
I asked her about this action and she said that I was a "suspicious shopper" and she had to look inside the box to check for content. I was very disappointed (for been treated as a thief in front of other customers) and I requested to talk to the store manager.
The store manager Mr. Gilberto {Removed per Forum Guidelines} told me that her action was corporate policy and that all items found outside the proper area are open to check for the content (even if the box is closed and seal). It is very difficult to believe that your employees open all boxes out of place even if the box is seal.
I felt so embarrassing (for been treated as a thief in front of other customer) that my blood pressure raised to a level where I had to be aided by the manager. He offered me a chair to sit and water (all this in front of all customers). At that time I was dizzy and my face was as red as a tomato. My heart was beating at a very rapid pace and it was difficult to breath. (No incident report was filed).
Once I had some rest, in front of all customer, (no medical attention was offered) I proceed to the cash register to buy for the product $19.99.  I left the store and went home (2 hrs driving distance).
I would like to be contacted by someone at corporate level to talk about the above mention incident. This situation needs to be address as soon as possible.

    Good afternoon fernandolpena,
Welcome to the forum. I was very saddened to read about your experience at our Puerto Rico store. I can imagine how embarrassing it would be to feel like you were being accused of stealing, and I'm very sorry if this made you feel physically ill.
Whenever there is any concern in regards to a product being tampered with, the store has the right to check the box to make sure the contents have not been removed. Not being sure what transpired in your situation, I am not able to determine why it was necessary to open the box. We here at the corporate office take this kind of situation very seriously, and I assure you I will be documenting your comments to forward to the store management team for further investigation. We do not want to cause our customer’s unnecessary distress, and I appreciate very much you bringing this to our attention.
Again, I am truly sorry for any distress this may have caused, and if you have any further questions or concerns please do not hesitate to let me know.
    Respectfully,

  • Can't pay if I'm from Puerto Rico even though PR is supported by CC?

I'm interested in purchasing a Creative Cloud subscription but I get an error when paying because I can't edit the contents of the State dropdown box. It says to choose a valid option but there are no options from me to choose, I assume that's because my country field is set in blank. This is set as Puerto Rico in my Adobe profile page and for some reason the Creative Cloud payment page at https://creative.adobe.com/join/offer/complete can't read it. Interestingly, Puerto Rico is listed as supported to purchase a membership according to the pdf here:
    http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/products/creativecloud/cc/pdfs/cc-availability-m atrix.pdf
When I go to my Adobe profile page I can't choose a state to go with my address as it has Puerto Rico as country and there are no state values that go along with it. I can't even change my country to anything else; it's just set permanently as Puerto Rico. So can I buy Creative Cloud or not?

    New error:
This happens whether I'm in the US or Latinoamérica site.

  • Why doesn't my verizon prepaid phone work in San Juan, Puerto Rico?

I called before my trip and was assured my phone would work no problem. Now when I get here I can only text and receive texts. My phone(Droid Maxx) says roaming 3G and i can't call or use data. Have walked all over San Juan today and no luck. Although my dad was able to call me surprisingly around 3. Other than that though it's been horrible. Please someone help me. My fiance and I would like to use our data to post pics in real time and or use our phones in case of an emergency. • Apple Store - ¿When the Apple Store will start Shipping to Puerto Rico?

I have years waiting from apple to start selling theirs products directly to Puerto Rico, but nothing happens. Dear Apple selling teams, look for your selves the US companys in Puerto Rico that sells millions of dollars each year like, SEARS, JCPenny, Sams, Costco, Marshalls, Kmart, Burlington, ComUSA (is still in Puerto Rico as Tiger Direct), DELL (sells direct to Puerto Rico from a website), etc, etc, etc. How difficult can be this for a multibillion company to do this. Im sure you will sell more items than others States. Just try and add Puerto Rico in you permitted shipping address. Thanks! (I plan to buy two unlock iPhone 4s for me and my wife and cant do it. Year ago I buy three MacBook Pro and try to do from your web site and cant do it, your loosing money from PR each day)

You are not addressing Apple here at all.  We are all itunes users.
You can leave feedback for Apple at:

  • Traveling to puerto rico, any horror stories with data roaming?

Of course I know that PR is a US territory, and I called ATT - they said no problem, but just want to see if anyones heard of troubles getting charged for data or voice roaming in Puerto Rico?

Never heard any problems with Puerto Rico. I go to the US Virgin Islands, never had roaming charges, and find AT&T coverage is quite good.
