Problem getting bluetooth apt-x codec to work

Hi fellow mac users,
I recently bought a creative wp-300 bluetooth headphones (comes with Apt-X support) and tried pairing with my macbook pro retina. The process of pairing the device was quite straight-forward and it was completed without much hassle.
However everytime I performed an option-click on the bluetooth icon, it shows that my active codec for bluetooth audio is SCO instead of Apt-X. There was only one instance after I messed about with connecting and disconnecting the device, I managed to get it worked with Apt-X codec. Sadly, I could not reproduce the same results after trying for the past few days.
I have done some research in the forums and I am sure it is not a bluetooth bandwidth conservation issue as I do not use any other bluetooth device except for this headset. Also, in most of the other cases, people seems to be getting their bluetooth headsets to work with SBC codec rather than SCO. May I ask in terms of sound quality and signal consistency (i.e. frequency of losing beats), how does the SCO codec fare against SBC and Apt-X?
More importantly, is there any way that I can always get my creative headset to pair and work with Apt-X codec? It is just kind of disappointing that I cannot make use of this technology when it is clearly supported by both devices (mac and headset).
Regards,
D

  • Problems getting bluetooth to work on T60

    Hi all,
I am trying to get bluetooth to work on my Lenovo Thinkpad T60. Following the wiki article, I installed bluez and made sure that hal, dbus and bluetooth daemons are running. Of course, I have also made sure that the hardware switch for wifi/bluetooth on the front of the thinkpad is turned on.
    Now, the situation is:
    # lsmod | grep thinkpad
    thinkpad_acpi 54236 0
    snd 43283 16 snd_seq_oss,snd_hda_codec_analog,snd_seq,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hwdep,snd_seq_device,snd_pcm_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer,snd_mixer_oss,thinkpad_acpi

    # lsmod | grep blue
    bluetooth 44753 5 sco,bnep,l2cap
    rfkill 12854 4 bluetooth,cfg80211,thinkpad_acpi
    # dmesg | grep -i blue

If I do "hciconfig --all", I get no output at all. A device /dev/hci* does not exist. So when I run hcitool, it tells me that there is no bluetooth device available:
    # hcitool scan
Device is not available: No such device
In this thread is explained that one has to execute "echo enable >/proc/acpi/ibm/bluetooth" to enable the bluetooth hardware:
    # echo enable > /proc/acpi/ibm/bluetooth
-bash: /proc/acpi/ibm/bluetooth: No such file or directory
The directory /proc/acpi/ibm/ does exist, but root seems not to have the permission to create files there. If I enter the directory /proc/acpi/ibm/ and do "touch testfile" as root, I get "touch: cannot touch `testfile': No such file or directory".
To make a long story short, I have no idea what to do now to get bluetooth working. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance and kind regards,
    jamesbond007.

No one has an idea how to get this to work...?

  • Problems getting itunes 7.0.2 to work!?!?!?

Just bought a new Dell computer....Stuck with dial up service through AOL. Spent the last 5 hours downloading the new itunes for windows XP onto the computer to only have a box pop up saying:
Windows has found a problem.....File blocked due to no digital signature unknown publisher.....Due to this we cannot get into the Itunes store or anything...It seems that the computer is saying that there isnt a digital signature with the download saying that it is safe to run on the computer?? I just know we are going crazy trying to figure this out!? Any ideas?? Anyone else with this issue?
And when we try to go to the itunes store it shows our account and the $$$ on the accout sitting there, but when trying to get into the store it says it is busy or check your internet connection, This has been the case now for over 24 hours so I doubt the store is "closed" and the internet is working fine. HELP!!!!

I've been having the same exact issue. It occurs regardless of whether I try it directly from iTunes or go to the Apple site and download it there. Help please!

  • Problems getting an external hard drive to work on the new Airport Extreme

I have spent hours trying to get my 320GB external hard drive to work with the new airport extreme 802.11N. I have spent hours pouring over all of the posts here discussing possible solutions, all of which have not worked. This morning, however, I gave it another try and FINALLY, I have it working. I tried something simple. Here it is:
Using the Apple Disk Utility Program, I formated my drive using the MS-DOS mode, called my Hard drive "ItunesHD". It took about 20 minutes to complete (i'm assuming because of the size of the drive). I then unplugged the router and hard drive, turned on the hard drive, then the router. After my macbook pro reconnected, I clicked on the iDisk utility icon in my menu bar, provided my password and FINALLY saw the network drive icon on my desktop!!! It seems that formatting my drive using MS-DOS compatibility mode finally worked for me. I'm not saying this will work for anyone else who is having this problem, but you can at least try it. I tried all of the MAC formatting options and have had no luck.
What I would like to know now is (..if anyone has these answers, please let me know):
    1. What is the maximum SINGLE drive capacity that this router will understand...500GB, 1TB, 2TB? I would like to get the biggest bang for my buck.
    2. Keeping #1 one in mind, I purchased an Apple TV (still waiting on it to arrive) and I would like to know if it will read multiple hard drives connected to the Airport Extreme router (...say (2) 500GB hard drives). I know you can have multiple libraries in iTunes (which to me is a cheesy solutions, there should be an option in the preferences that would allow you to save your music in one place and your movies in another). Anybody have any idea on this one?
I basically want to rip all of my dvd movies on a big hard drive connected to my airport extreme to use with my AppleTV , so I just need to find out about the maximum size and hooking up more than one hard drive and getting the AppleTV to recognize them all.
    thnks
MacBook Pro Core Duo Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Sorry you had so much trouble hooking up a hard drive to the base station. I've done some experimenting with the feature and this is what I've found out.
You can use either the native Mac format, Mac OS Extended, or the Microsoft format known as FAT. Apple calls FAT, MS-DOS File System in Disk Utility.
If you use Mac OS Extended, the Macs on the network will be able to connect to the drive using the native AFP (Apple File Protocol) or the Microsoft native SMB (Server Message Block) protocol. PCs will only use the SMB protocol of course.
If you use MS-DOS File System both the Macs and the PCs will only use SMB to connect to the drive over the network.
Basically I've found everything works as expected with regard to volumes connected to a network.
One thing I don't have installed is the iDisk Utility. I'm wondering if it may be the cause of the problems you were having. But reading through your post it may also be the difference between expected behaviour and the proper procedure for discovering and mounting network volumes. Let me explain.
You only mention having trouble getting the drive to show up on your Desktop, you didn't describe how you went about discovering the network drive. It isn't just suppose to show up on your desktop when you plug it in to the Extreme base station. It doesn't work like the iDisk or disks connected directly to your computer using USB/Firewire.
Normally with network drives you're suppose to either browse for them using the Network icon in the Finder or using the Connect to Server command in the Finder's Go menu, you would type the address in directly for the network volume you want to mount. Try it and see what happens.
Now to answer your other questions.
I don't have a volume large enough to hit any limits the base station may have but I did read a post about someone who said they had a 1.5 TB volume connected and could only see 1 TB of it. They were forced to partition the drive to see all available space and of course the volumes showed up as two separate drives. One thing wasn't made clear though. They didn't say what volume format they were using to format the drive, Mac OS Extended or MS-DOS.
Everything having to do with the AppleTV is just speculation at this point since no one has one yet but from what has been demonstrated so far, AppleTV relies on iTunes. In other words, it won't pull data from network volumes on its own, a computer running iTunes needs to feed it.

  • Problem getting CR for VS 2010 to work

I just downloaded and installed CR for VS 2010, the file is "CRforVS_13_0_1.exe".  It seemed to install just fine.  But I can't get it to work in my VB .Net 2010 project.
I can select "Add a New Item" and then select "Crystal Report", no problem.
When the new report window appears, it defaults to "Using the report wizard", if I click OK, it locks up VS and I have to use the task manager to close VB.
If I select "As a Blank Report" it's ok and will add a blank report.
But as soon as I select the Database Expert it throws an error saying "External component has thrown an exception" and then VB is locked up.
    I have Win7 64bit home premium OS.
I have VS 2005 and VS 2010 installed
CR in the VS 2005 is working fine.
I had a simular problem last november and the response I got was there was I bug in CR when a machine has bot VS 2005 and VS 2010 and it was going to be fixed when the SP came out.
So, it there a SP in need to download and install?  Do I need to manually add some references to my project (not sure what references are required).
Any information or suggestions will be appriciated, Thanks

    Hi Ed,
Yup I know... The problem is Windows used to use the c:\temp and now it users the temp folders located under the c:\User\ folder structure.
CR uses a wild card \temp to save the temp files we generate. The problem is with the wild cards. The issue now is you should not be using a c:\temp folder according to Windows Rules all temp files should go under the users folder structure.
I actually do the same thing at home and ran into a problem with Logitech's installer, it would complete the install if I set my environment variable to c:\temp. As soon as I changed it back to the Windows 7 default the installer ran fine.
So even though you have been using it for 20 years, and so have I, we have to change to follow the new OS rules. Using any other name like \MyTemp is fine as I first indicated.
    Thanks again

  • Problems getting PC-to-Mac ethernet to work

My dad recently got a new MacBook Pro, and I am trying to use an ethernet cable to transfer files from the PC to the Mac. However, even though some things are working, the unsuccessful thing is getting the PC to show up on the network list. I have disconnected the PC from the wireless network to avoid confusion, but the MBP is still connected.
Both laptops have gigabit ethernet, and are up to date on updates. I'm trying Internet Sharing as well but that si failing as well.

No need for a special cable these days. Almost all devices can tell which way the traffic is moving and adjust themselves accordingly.
On the PC open a command window and type in 'ipconfig /all' to get it to tell you the network settings. These will include the ip address and the sub-net mask (often 255.255.255.0). On the Mac the same settings can be found in System Preferences / Networking. Both machines really need to be on the same sub-net. Once you know the ip address of both machines.. on the PC command window type in 'ping x.x.x.x' where the x's are the address of the Mac. If all is well you should get some responses and the packets transmitted count should be the same as the packets received. On the Mac, open a Terminal window (Applications/Utilities/Terminal) and type the same command (but using the PC's ip address) you should get the same or very similar result.
If this does not work at all, then the two machines can not see each other and you will have to start again from scratch to set the networking up so that they can see each other.
    Hope this helps.

  • HELP!!  I am having BIG PROBLEMS getting the Custom Page Sizes to work!!

I am having a MAJOR challenge working with the Custom Page Size feature in Pages '09. My mom is working on a primer music book for publication, where the page size (for the printer) MUST BE 9" X 12"!! For some reason even though I have set the custom page size to 9" x 12", The document does not appear to have the proper proportions, (i.e. the ration of the width to height IS NOT EQUAL TO THAT OF A 9" X 12" DOCUMENT!!)
    HELP!! PLEASE!!
Also, for some reason my Vertical Ruler has COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED!! My Horizontal Ruler (on top) is still there but there is no sign of the vertical one which is CRITICAL for aligning the of the content for publication!!
I took an annotated screenshot of what the document that is +*SUPPOSEDLY 9" x 12".*+ But there is +*NO WAY THAT IT IS ACTUALLY 9"12!!*+
I have also taken some screenshots of a few other Inspector Panels and other things that might help SOMEBODY to figure out what the problem is!

    Hi kmamusic
    Welcome to the forum.
    To show your vertical ruler:
+Menu > Pages > Preferences > Rulers > check Enable vertical ruler in word processing documents+
You are right the page does look slightly too high.
The one thing you did not give us was a screen snap of the *Custom Page* you set up in *Page Setup…*
This is what would dictate the actual page size.

  • Problems getting the free Suduko download to work

I've got a Curve (8310) and went to download the free suduko application from the owner's lounge.
I got it downloaded and added to my handset, but when I try to open it and play I get nothing but the intro screen.  Nothing else happens and it's like it freezes. The only thing I can do is close out of it using the red handset button, which takes me back to the homescreen.
I'd really like to use this application and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or has an idea how to fix it?
    Thanks

  • Cant get bluetooth wireless apple keyboard to work win XP - bootcamp

Well just as posted... i can link it, sometimes it says your hardware has encountered a problem and might not function properly, and sometimes it links fine, but no letters come out. unlinks soon after... Ive read many posts, so lets only post answers, not alike symptoms.... many people have this problem... I wrote the headlines to locate this problem easily...please help

Try pressing the "clear" button (where the Num Lock key would be on a Windows keyboard). I don't think Windows enables this on bootup (as there is no BIOS to do it). I know this happens when I run XP in Parallels...

  • Having problems getting my fireworks made button to work in Adobe Dreamweaver CS6

Hello, I am currently using a trial version of Adobe CS6 Fireworks and Dreamweaver and I am wondering why my button that I have created with an up, an over and a down state is not working in dreamweaver properly...when I preview my button in Fireworks all is in order and it works fine but when I click copy Fireworks Html of the button, when I paste it into dreamweaver and preview it, dreamweaver doesen't seem to show the over or down states...any help would be much appreciated.

When you created animated buttons in Fireworks and exported/imported them into Dreamweaver CS3, CS5 all worked well.
This is because CS3 and CS5 automatically added the required preload JavaScript to the hed tag of the document.
In CS6, this is not happening!
That is the major reason that your buttons do not work if you are used to doing it the way that we have for years.
As a test, I added the Head tag code that the old versions of CS generated in Dreamweaver and immediately my buttons worked.
It must be a program error in CS6 and I wonder if Adobe will be producing a fix for this?
    The Head code is below:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    function MM_preloadImages() { //v3.0
      var d=document; if(d.images){ if(!d.MM_p) d.MM_p=new Array();

  • Hi Guys does anyone know of a way i can get cyclops speed camera alert to work through bluetooth incar hands free kit , i used to be able to connect it via an app called drivesafely but this app is no longer available in apple store ????????????

Hi Guys does anyone know of a way i can get cyclops speed camera alert to work through bluetooth incar hands free kit , i used to be able to connect it via an app called drivesafely but this app is no longer available in apple store ????????????

I think the easiest way to do this is to have the EyeTV app running in one user account and sent via HDMI to the TV, and use a separate user account for Screen Sharing. Both logins can be active at the same time and with Lion you can connect via screen sharing to which ever login you need.
With regards to the Mac video resolution changing, when it is not the current input on your AV receiver. This is 'normal', if the Mac sees no signal it drops down the a lower level. What you need is to buy a HDMI Detective Plus which tricks the Mac in to always seeing a signal and hence it will not drop down the resolution. See http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=8005
The Mac mini does have an IR receiver. This can be used with the EyeTV app, iTunes, and similar. Yes I believe EyeTV would run for prolonged periods quite happily, it is has been around for a long time and had most of the rough edges polished off. However one issue you will have to deal with is that it does not automatically update its program guide data. For this you might have to write or modify an AppleScript. Elgato support or their user forums will be a lot of help.
You can set EyeTV to convert recordings to an iTunes (Apple TV) compatible format and then delete them from EyeTV.
The HDMI Detective should solve your handshaking problems.

  • Support for apt-X codec while Bluetooth streaming?

I am wanting to stream music from my tablet to my home stereo via a bluetooth receiver connected to my home stereo AUX analog input. My question is whether the Z tablet supports the "apt-X" high fidelity codec format that is promoted with the higher quality bluetooth receivers?
If not, is there a way to update the Z with apt-X so that I can get a higher quality stream? Or does Sony (or the Bluetooth 4.0 standard) already have technology onboard the tablet that matches the apt-X sound quality?
    thanks
    charliefjr

Thanks for all of the replies. I also saw in the Z white paper that the apt-X codec is not listed, so the question becomes "can apt-X be pushed via a software update?"
For those interested in streaming to your home stereo or powered speaker, here's what I ended up doing.
Purchased a Rocketfish Bluetooth Music Receiver from Best Buy (in the US). It is a pretty slick lttle device, about the same size as the power plug adaptor and it supports A2DP and apt-X. There are two audio outputs: analog via a headphone jack and optical. And it ships with a 6' 3.5mm stereo audio cable and a  RCA adaptor.
Setup was easy. Connect the audio to the stereo's AUX inputs, set the stereo's source to AUX, plug in the BT receiver power, turn on the tablet Bluetooth on the tablet and play music.
At first the sound was pretty compressed from MP3's, Pandora and the Google Play service. The fix was to go into the Google Play app > settings > equalizer. Click on "surround sound" and change the setting from "headphone" to "studio".Then play with the equalizer settings to tweak. Results in much improved audio.
Happy camper now... music streaming through the house and no wires!
