Problem getting mail to work

I have all the account settings correctly set up for a TalkTalk account and have sent and received messages via TalkTalk webmail but I cannot get iPad mail to work. Any suggestions please.

What version of Mail and what happens when you try to use Mail? A little more information would help.

  • I am still having a problem getting Mail to work with OSX 10.6.8. Non of the fixes are working for me. Any help would be appreciated

Hi, tried the Apple fix, installing the OSX combo update followed by the Safari update followed by the security update, nothing.
Tried the thing where you toss the mail program in the trash and then install the security update, nothing.
Is there anyone else who has a problem even after all trhe fixes suggested here and in Apple support?
    Thank you

  • Can't get Mail to work - I get the spinning wheel and Mail freezes.  I have to Force Quit it.  How do I fix this?

Can't get Mail to work - I get the spinning wheel and Mail freezes.  I have to Force Quit Mail .  How do I fix this problem?

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • After installing IOS 5 can't get mail to work...

I have been having trouble installing IOS 5 on my Ipad and part of the problem may have been with my home computer... In any event, I finally was able to get it on but the result is a bit discouraging. All my apps are there, but I lost everything on them... not that there was much... but my main concern is that I can't get Mail to work... I go in settings and when I click on mail... it just goes back to the page with all the icons... I have tried reinitializing and all... but nothing works... Any idea what is the issue and how to fix it ?

First try rebooting your iPad.  Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart.  If that does not help, you may need to restore your iPad in iTunes.  You can restore from a backup (assuming you have a backup to restore from).

  • Getting Mail to work correctly with IMAP server (like Thunderbird does)?

    Hi guys,
Is it at all possible to get Mail to work in the same way that Thunderbird does with IMAP servers?
With my Mail setup as it is, if I save a message as a draft, it doesn't get put in the 'Draft' on the server, only on the mac. The junk filter puts it in a junk filter on the mac, not on the server. Same with sent email. And with trash it doesn't seem to put it anywhere, just trashes it. I much prefer Mail to Thunderbird in terms of GUI and such but if it won't put things in folders on the server like it does in Thunderbird I'll have to get that. Can this be done and if so anyone can tell me how?
    Thanks
    Max

    Hey Max,
All the things you are looking for can be found in Mail Preferences.
Go to File -> Preferences -> Mailbox Behaviors. The checkboxes on that page will do most of what you want to do.
Also, go to the Advanced pane in the Preferences as well, and check the drop-down menu under "Keep copies of messages for offline viewing". Select the option that fits your particular work style.
    I hope that helps,
    - CJ

  • Can't get mail to work with SSL certificates

I'm setting up a 10.5.3 mail server and wanted to enable SSL for SMTP and IMAP.
It all works fine if I use the Default certificate that the server generates automatically. But if I want to generate a new certificate with a pass phrase it stops working.
You start seeing errors like the in the system log:

Anyone know how to fix this?

I still think there's something wrong with Server Admin in 10.5 that's stopping this from working.
I've checked the certificate I'm using on my 10.4.11 mail server and it's key file is encrypted but SMTP mail works fine over SSL. I imported the certificate using Server Admin, I didn't edit the config file manually.
How would the system be decrypting the key before postfix uses it in 10.4? Any why doesn't this work in 10.5?

  • Cannot get Mail to work with BT

I have suddenly encountered a problem with Mail. I cannot now get it to work with my BT account.
When I Get Mail the progress bar shows from 7 to 15 items for download. The download speed decays to zero the progress bar stalls and nothing arrives.
My .Mac mail is fine though. So I have attempted to get BT to forward my mail to .Mac having deleted the BT account in Mail, but as yet no sign of that work-around helping either.
Is there a bug somewhere? Have had no problem with Mail for years and years.
17 inch iMac and fully up to date.

It may be frustrating, but there's a reason it's doing that; we just need to figure out why. So, what kind of email account do you have, and how long have you had it? When did this problem start, and what did you install just prior to this happening, if anything?

  • TS3276 Problems getting mail on my iMac (10.7.2) since 1/19

After trying troubleshooting, I was sent to Mail Connection Doctor.  I have a red dot saying " Trying to log in to this SMTP account failed.  Verify that the username and password are correct.  Connection and login to server for AOL, iCloud and the smtp for aol are all fine.  (I am getting mail on my iPhone and my husband's iPad and MacBookPro are all functioning correctly.
I see that the SMTP is wrong, but it won't let me correct it. It has some letters and #'s before the correct address, but it is in the faded print.
I see that iCloud had mail problems, but they supposedly are now on line.
    Any way to correct this?
    Thanks,
    Mary Lou

I will try that...I have now done that several times.  When I type in the correct SMTP address...according to what the troubleshooting told me, the address comes up with "p99-" preceeding the correct imap address.  I took screen shots of how it was supposed to look vs. how it looks with those additional numbers.  Naturally, everything is out of warranty, so if I want Apple's assistance, I need to pay them a $49 fee...this irks me!  :-)
Prior to the apparent system problems for iCloud on Jan. 19, I am not getting any incoming email on my iMac.  It comes in everywhere else.  Prior to this, everything was working fine, so it really sounds like iCloud's problem, yet I can't find a way to get them to fix it.
    Thanks for trying.
    Mary Lou

  • Can't get mail to work

    Hi-
I'm trying to set my "mail" up but can't seem to get it to work. I took all of the connection info off of Entourage for connecting to my mail server (charter.net) but when I go to set up the account, it gives me an error that it can't connect via an SSL , Would I like to try without it? When I say yes, the little "thinking wheel" just keeps spinning and never connects. I must be doing something wrong but @@!!### if I can figure out what it is.
    Thanks-
    DMitzelfeldt

I have my SSL on. Here are my settings for Comcast. Maybe you can just use this as a guideline. It's working fine for me.
First go to Settings and choose Mail.
Under accounts, click on the account name you created to edit it.
    Under POP Account Information:
    Name: Your Name
    Address: Your e-mail address.
Description: Your name for the account.
    Under Incoming Mail Server:
    Host Name: mail.comcast.net
User Name: [email protected] (your full e-mail address)
    Password: password for the account
    Under Outgoing Mail Server:
    Host Name: smtp.comcast.net
User Name: [email protected] (your full e-mail address)
    Password: password for the account
    Then click on Advanced
    Under incoming settings:
    Use SSL On
    Authentication - Select "Password"
Delete from server - I selected Never
    Server Port 995
    Outgoing Settings
    Use SSL On
    Authentication - Select "Password"
    Server Port 587
You may have to ask charter.net what your server ports are for incoming and outgoing, if these don't work.
    I hope this helps.

  • Can't get mail to work on new iphone

i have two accounts, yahoo and comcast, neither is working on my new iphone 5.  the phone accepted the setting for the comcast account, but still no mail.  the yahoo account keeps asking me for the password, despite me entering it the mail settings various times.  it then tells me the yahoo server is unavailable, try later.  has been happening for quite some time.

Did you ever get this to work?  Did you have to delete your comcast account and setup new account?  My Iphone 5 is doing the same thing - asking for password and then never connects to server - times out

  • How to make "Get Mail" button work for new IMAP acct?

Recently, I started new Internet service with Charter. I set up my new email mail account on my iMac, and everything is working perfectly.....except that Mail checks the Charter email account for new messages ONLY when Mail is first started or the first time I "Synchronize". There's no way to know that messages are waiting, and no other way to download messages.
When I click the "get mail" button, the little wheel thing appears for all the accounts (I still have my ATT accounts active), except the Charter account. When Mail automatically checks for messages, it checks all the accounts except the Charter account.
The messages sent to the Charter account show up right away on the web (looking at my account on Charter's web site). I have no trouble at all sending emails. I have the account set up with IMAP (although, I tried POP, with no change). I have this account set to "Include when automatically checking for messages". I've shut down and restarted multiple times.
I've talked with Charter support, and they've checked their server and all my settings, and everything is OK. I'm inclined to agree it's not an issue on their end. It seems to be Mail.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Yup. It was set to "every 5 minutes", and changing that made no difference. Mail completely ignores the charter account when doing the automated mail check and when I click "get mail".
I went to the local Apple store, without my iMac but with screen shots of the email settings, plus settings info from charter, and we set up the account on one of the iMacs there. It worked perfectly. The guy helping me suggested deleteting the account and setting it up again.
I did exactly that, but the behavior is the same. So.....the next thing to do is take the iMac in. (sigh.)

  • I can't get mail to work behind proxies

I am trying to get to my exchange mail to work behind another company's proxies.
    I proxies set-up in system Prefernces/Wi-fi.
Outlook connects fine as there are some preferences for entering your proxy settings.  Mail states that I have the passpord incorrect (wich I dont).
I am no proxy expert, but sounds like mail isn't using them.
    Any ideas??? THanks!

It might - thanks. I should add, though, that I can't get safari to work on the iPod, either. So it could be something to do with the wireless. The iPod touch is supposed to have wireless capabilities - honestly, it wouldn't matter much to my parents if it didn't; they never touch email, but I would love to be able to mail them!
Those steps at the link are pretty much what I've been doing. I'll try again when I have a stronger wireless connection. Then I'll let you know what happens.

  • Cannot get mail, was working fine for over a year

I have used yahoo mail on iphone5c for over a year. Three days ago I stopped receiving mail and pop up Cannot Get Mail. I have deleted the account and added the account as instructed by Apple's and Yahoo's advise numerous times and it still doesn't work. Anyone else having this issue or know of a fix? Thanks and GOD bless!!!

Yahoo email is notoriously bad, you can do a search and see all the threads about yahoo email account.
Try using the yahoo app for emails.
