Problem getting on the internet after installing new 10.4.8

Hi,
Can anyone help me?? I've had internet problems for ages.. I'm with Bulldog broadband, and finally we worked out it was because the modem was not compatible with my 0SX 10.4
I finally got them to send me out a new modem which was compatible (friday) and on Saturday, my mac reminded me there were new installs and I've loaded 10.4.8.... now I have the same problem as before! The new modem is not compatible! Looks like speedtouch modems are not keeping up with Apple.
Anyhow, I wondered is there a way to go back to my old OS until they catch up? Or is it worth buying a new modem, and which one.. everyone seems to do great ones for PC, but not MAC.
I would love some advice, if anyone has any ideas!
Thanks,
Julia x

Hi again Julia.
To find out if you already have an Airport extreme card click on the Apple top/left of your screen and select 'About this Mac'. Then select 'More Info' from the box that opens. Scroll down in the resulting window to Network>Airport card. Select 'Airport Card' and it will either say something like:
AirPort Card Information:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme
Wireless Card Locale: Worldwide
Wireless Card Firmware Version: 405.1 (3.90.34.0.p18)
or:
No information found.
If the former - well you've got one and it will work with any of the brands, and more, of those I mentioned in my first post provided that they are 802.11b or g compliant. (Which they will be, it is the accepted standard. The 'g' standard, though, is faster for networking.)
If the latter then things may be more complicated as the Power Mac G5 Late 2005 apparently has some arcane compatibility or space issues with Airport Extreme cards. I haven't a clue about those so wouldn't be able to help other than to suggest that you contact "an Apple Retail Store or other Authorized Apple Service Provider" as advised Here, under 'System Requirements'…
All down to which model you have apparently.
Feel free to ask for more help,
Adrian

If your backup is encrypted and you don't know the password anymore, you'll have to start from the beginning and set up the phone without the backup. An encrypted backup can't be used anymore without the correct password.

  • Can't get on the internet with my new Imac.

My new Imac arrived yesterday. It has Tiger installed and a Leopard disk in the box. I had already downloaded my usb broadband modem's drivers for Tiger 10.4.5 from my Isp and thought it would be a simple matter to install them. No chance! They won't work. It's running Tiger 10.4.10. The modem doesn't sync up and the computer says it doesn't exist. Then I had the bright idea of upgrading to Leopard and using Boot Camp to install Windows XP. Big mistake! I've only got an ancient XP upgrade disk and you need a full SP2 one. But of course I didn't find that out untill I'd put the disk in the superdrive. So now it's stuck in there. Every time I switch the computer on it just boots into the windows setup. Pressing F3 just reboots it into Windows setup. Does anybody know how I can get that cd out of my drive? And how do I get on the internet? My usb modem and it's driver works fine on an old powerbook running Panther.

    Hello again Nevertheless,
Probably! - Possibly! Almost certainly! Hmmm...
Belkin equipment has caused more problems than it had solved ( in my experience only )
Netgear equipment has solved all the problems I have, so far, encountered.

It's easy. It works and I DONT work for them.

  • Help me please! I can't get on the internet with my new phone

Can someone please help me. I purchased my Blackberry Pearl from an on-line seller and it was suposed to be new. The problem comes when I try to set up my e-mail account....I go to my e-mail set-up option and the only one that it gives me is " I want to use a work e-mail account with a Blackberry Enterprise Server" . Obviously I do not want to do this but I have no other options. I can either hit close or next and next ask me for a password from my Enterprise Server administrator. I contacted Verizon and after much run around they finally told me that this phone was connected to another Blackberry account. I don't know if they really knew what they were talking about or if they just did not want to really help me because I did not upgrade my account and buy my phone from them.  It sounds to me like they are trying to say the phone is stolen since they are saying that it is connected with another Blackberry account but if that were the case then Verizon would no be able to activate the phone and I can get it activated and make and receive calls but I cannot get on the internet with it. What good is a smart phone if you can't do everything it is supposed to do?

    Hello,
Actually, what they told you is accurate. BIS accounts are what enable additional services (including Personal email). BIS accounts are all managed by the carriers. One BB, as defined by it's unique PIN, can have only one BIS account on one carrier in the world. If a BIS account exists somewhere else for a specific BB, then a carrier cannot create another account for it. That is the way it works. One of the reasons is of course to prevent the use of stolen items. That's not the only reason, but it's all irrelevant...if a BIS account exists somewhere for that BB, VZW cannot create one for it.
What you need to do is to contact the seller and hope they are reputable. They need to contact their carrier and have that BIS account shut down. Only then might VZW be able to create a BIS account for you.
    Good luck!

  • Problems connecting to the internet after Upgrade from windows 8.1 pro

Cant connect to the internet after upgrading to windows 8.1 pro, what can i do to rectify this problem?
    Thanks

    Hi,
You can also try to install the older version in compatible mode:
Windows 8.1 Wifi showing "limited" or "No Internet Access"
Solution: revert your network adapter driver back to an older version
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/dennis_schnell/archive/2013/08/31/windows-8-1-wifi-showing-quot-limitied-quot-or-quot-no-internet-access-quot.aspx
In addition, disable power management on your network driver:
    Open Network and Sharing Center.
Click the Change adapter settings link in the upper left of the navigation pane.
Right click the network connection you want to enable/disable power management support on and click Properties .
    Click Configure .
On the Power Management tab, clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box.
If the issue still persists, please upload the event log for our research:

  • Software Update can't connect to the internet after a new install of 10.6

I had a clean install of 10.6 and after that the Software Update can't connect to the internet (the status bar hangs at the beginning and finally it prompts me the internet is not connected) while all my other applications can.
    Someone help me out?

I am having exactly the same problem as well.. has anybody managed to solve this yet? I have uploaded Snow Leopard - try to connect to Software Update - the menu bar scans a little then stops and then an error saying 'Not connected to the internet'' but the connection is working fine!!
Is this a SL issue? or just an overload with the Software Update programme? I cant do anything - no update for itunes/iphone software, etc.. most annoying.
Look forward to seeing some good news and some answers to this one.
    Cheers

  • Can't  get  to the Internet  after removing AOL items.

After removing as many AOL items as I could in order to install cable service with another ISP, I get the following Error message:
The attempt to load "Accessing URL: http://www.google.com/" failed.
The Error occurs every time I try to go to the Internet. I get a blank web page to avoid the home page when I hold the Esc key down while Internet Explorer loads. Then, same error occurs when I manually key in the addresses for Google, CNN and the like. I also increased the IE memory size. Did I remove critical software? My new cable service rep said they could not load their software until I removed AOL. How can I ensure that all AOL software has been removed? They have not installed the new ISP software yet. How can I test access to the Internet without an ISP?
    iBook   Mac OS 9.1.x   IE v 5.1.7

    Welcome To Discussions pelancho!
If AOL is your current ISP, and you have no other means of connecting to the Internet, and you have removed some of the AOL files, then there is no browser that will allow you access.
"My new cable service rep said they could not load their software until I removed AOL."
This doesn't make sense to me. I have High-Speed Cable access through my local phone company, and still have the AOL application installed.
I can use AOL along with the Cable access, and I can also switch back to Dial-Up access if I choose.
With the Cable access, I don't have to even load the AOL application, and I can use any other browser, like Safari or FireFox to access the Internet.
Are you sure you understood them correctly? What is the ISP?

    Hi grandpaofmany,
    What is your current situation?
For Windows 10 can't access Internet, you may follow the steps listed in the article below:

  • Weird problems with 2007 15" MBP after installing new HD, any solution?

    Folks-
For a couple of months my machine has been really weird.
    (1) Safari will not work. Firefox does, other internet apps do, but no Safari.
    (2) everything is ever slower. Spinning beachballs constantly.
    (3) won't remember home wifi network. It remembers the pw, but must select the network
    (4) won't sleep when scheduled, only when closed or immediately commanded to sleep.
I would say that these weird problems surfaced after I installed a new optical drive, after I upgraded to 10.7, etc, except that the main problems are absent when I start up from the old HD externally mounted (the refusal to sleep when scheduled is also present statring from the old HD).
This could indicate some wierd driver thing with the new drive, or a system software event I didn't notice or one of these "malware" things, right? Maybe?
Any ideas for how to troubleshoot this would just rock.
    Thanks!

Since you have your old hard drive here's a suggestion:
Step One: Boot from the external drive.  Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears.  Select the icon for the external drive then click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Step Two: New Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your new internal hard drive (entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID  then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Step Three: Clone the old drive to the new drive
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new internal drive. Source means the old external drive.
Step Four: Open the Startup Disk preferences and select the new internal volume.  Click on the Restart button.  You should boot from the new drive.  Eject the external drive and disconnect it from the computer.

  • Can't open any apps downloaded from the internet after installing application loader update and messages beta

I've run into an unusual problem recently. I think it it related to two recent software installs. The problem only started after i installed the new application loader.

Question: Has anyone else run into this issue and do you have a solution?

  • Can't get printers to print after installing new modem

I just installed a new wireless modem. My 2 printers are the OfficeJet 6500 E709N and C7200, operating on Windows 7-64. Both printers are connected to the network, both say they are ready to print, but when I try to print I get an error "Printer-status error". I check the printer status from the cntrol panel and it has the triangle sign with exclamation point inside. When I cancel all documents from printing it immediately goes back to being ready again, but the same thing happens over and over again with both the printers and both computers. Hope this is clear...I'm pretty computer illiterate. I usually can mess around until I get something fixed, but have no idea how it happened. I've been working on this problem for hours and just can't get it. Everything worked fine until I installed the mode, but I was able to connect them both to the network. HELP!!!

Turns out my problem appears to be the USB 2.0 Hub I was using. When I hooked the printer up directly to the iMac, it works as advertised. I wonder what is the issue with USB hubs and 10.5.6? It worked fine with 10.4.11. Any ideas about this one?
    Thanks

I've enabled your account ID for searching the general drivers and support pages for specific downloads based on entered model number and descriptions.
The web site search feature is an experimental unsupported BETA currently in its 27th year of testing. The hidden link that is only usuable by yourself and everyone else is:

I've also removed all age verification checks for your account so you won't be challenged for proof of minimum age or style when searching the free web site of drivers available to anyone else and yourself.
Please notice that your search and downloads have been enabled for high speed acceleration and could likely be completed in less time than any unimaginative and ignored response you'll struggle with disguised as your return fire.

  • Problems with Java 1.5+ after installing new "Software Updates".

I downloaded the regular 'software updates', now my macbook pro won't open Vuze, instead coming up with the message " Cannot launch "Vuze Installer". No compatible version of Java 1.5  available." Then it won't let me "Open Java Preferences". What do I do???

This is silly. Just because you don't know Vuze doesn't mean there's no problem with this update. My friends are having the same issue, of course we are looking at possible problem from Vuze's part but we cannot really say this update has 100% nothing to do with Vuze's launch failure, can we?
P.S. Since Vuze is not banned by law, it's still legal to use it. It's up to people if they want to use it for good or bad.
