Problem hooking up WRT160N

During a snow storm, I lost my 2.4 G Linksys router.  I bought the Wrt160n.  I am setting up this router on my laptop, not the old CPU the 2.4 was connected to.  Well, the setup did not ask me did I want to set up a new router, I only had the option of replacing an existing one or connecting it WITH the old one.  Anyway, I connected the new router the same way the old one was hooked up.  The setup ran, helped me set up the network and password.  Now, none of the laptops can connect to the router.  I have the ethernet cord going from the back of the modem into the "internet" port on the back of the router.  I then have another ethernet cord going from Port 1 to my laptop.  I can get internet hooked up like this, but when I unplug the ethernet cord from the laptop and try to connect to the router, it tells me to check my connections or that I'm too far away from the signal.  What is the purpose of the middle button on the router.  It sometimes turns orange.  When I push it, it turns blue and begins to blink.  any advice?

I would suggest you to readjust the wireless settings on the router..Open the router setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.The default password is "admin"..Under the Wireless tab,Change the SSID to some unique name..Channel Width to 20MHz only and Channel to 11..Click on save settings..Under the wireless security subtab, check the security key.
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings...Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Problems hooking up Inspiron 6000 with Router WRT54GS

We have a WRT54GS that has been set up and working wonderfully.  My son just came home from college with his laptop (Dell Inspiron 6000 with wireless card, etc) and I wanted to hook it up also.
I think I'm missing a setting somewhere because, although I've entered the MAC into the router MAC filter list and the laptop shows our network name, I cannot get the laptop to connect.  I get the prompt for our password, enter it, and then it just can't connect.  Any suggestions as to what I've done wrong or what should I be checking?  I've spent far too much time on this today.

It sounds like you have a wired computer connected to the router and that this computer is able to access the Internet without any problems.  Is this correct?   If so, then your basic router setup is complete.  But it also sounds like you have never connected a computer wirelessly to this router.  Is this correct?  Normally, wireless would be turned on by default.  So the only settings that you normally need to change are the wireless security settings.
You mentioned that you were using MAC address filtering.  On the same page where you "Enable"  wireless MAC address filtering, make sure you have marked the option "Permit only PC's listed .....".  Then enter the MAC address of your son's laptop in the "MAC Address Filter List".  Be sure to click on "Save Settings" on both of these pages, and wait for the page to refresh (3 to 60 seconds).
Have you checked to see if your son has the Intel Pro Wireless 2200bg card?  You can check this in "Device Manager", under the heading of "Network Adapters".

  • Problem Setting Up WRT160N

I am trying to setup a new WRT160N.
I can connect on the internet and see other pcs' on the network, however I can not complete the installation of the software that came on the cd, and when I try to access the web interface, it takes forever just to ask for the username and password.
The ethernet cable from my ISP goes into the internet plug on the router and another cable goes from one of the lan ports to my pc.
I get the following error during the installation:
Your new router does not appear to be connected properly.
Error 332: New router not detected.
Which is strange since I am writing this right now using this router.
    Does anyone know what's wrong?
Is it a problem of the router or am I doing something wrong?

Reset the router for 2-3 minutes.... disable all firewall & try accessing the setup page using http://192.168.1.1 .....
See if it accepts username & password ....

  • Problems with my WRT160N

    Hi.
    I have a problem with my wrt160. v1
As soon as i turn off my computer it looses Internet, i got my desktop on cable from computer to router.
I also have an mac on wireless that just seem to work fine.
the there is to IPhone that lose connection to the router as well.
I have two routers on the net work 1. a Zyxle that i godt from my ISP 2. the wrt160n
The network is set up like this: Internet --> Zyxle --> wtr160n --> computers
i switch off DHCP Server on the 160n if i do it on the zyxel i cant get anything to work.
The 160n is set with default ip 192.168.1.1 the zyxel is set to 192.168.1.2
on the wrt160n the ip range is 192.168.1.100 to .149 on the zyxel its 192.168.1.33 to .67
i tried to upgrade the firmware in the wtr160n, with no luck
i tried to power cycle both ways still the same.
What am i doing wrong, I'm out of ideas what to try.

So when you turn off your computer and turn it on, after that your computer is not able to go online wirelessly. As you have already Disable the DHCP on your router, So this means when you turn on your computer, your computer is unable to communicate with your DHCP server and is unable to get the IP address.
So what i would suggest your is As your Zyxel router IP is 192.168.1.2, So you can connect the LAN cable from Zyxel router to Linksys router on Internet Port and connect your computer to Linksys router Port no.1. Login to your Linksys router setup page, Turn On the DHCP on your linksys router and change the LAN IP : 192.168.2.1 and click on Save Settings. Once the settings are sucessfull, just you need to power cycle your network and after this all your computers will be able to go online. And i think after this your problem will be solved.

  • A problem with the WRT160N

So i have it completely hooked and set up to everything i want, but for some reason it just won't connect to the internet wirelessly on any of the laptops that are in this apartment. I searched and everything and couldn't find this problem with anyone else, but after i put the password in it just says that it can't connect. I know it's not my laptop cause not 20 minutes later when i needed to go to class, i could get on at school with my laptop. Any help?

Whats the wireless security password you have setup on your Router? make sure while connecting to your wireless network you are using the right security key.

  • New 400n, Having Problems Hooking Up My 360 wirelessly

Just got a new 400n coming from the 300n.  I have it setup so im running the internet on the computers fine but now im having problems.  I have it set so theres no password and when I test the connection I always recieve network failed.  The 360 is hooked up to a 54AG wireless gaming adapter and sees all the networks, it just can't connect to them.  Its kind of ridiculous.  What can I do to make this work.  Any questions or specs you need from me ill quickly answer.

Make sure that you have identical Wireless Settings(SSID, WEP/WPA Encryption) on your Gaming Adapter and your Router...Also make sure your Gaming Adapter is set to use a Static IP Address and the IP Address on your Gaming Adapter should be 192.168.1.250(if your router's address is 192.168.1.1), enter your router's default address in the Default Gateway field...
After configuring the Gaming Adapter settings you should power cycle both the devices(Gaming Adapter and Router)...Your Gaming Adapter should be configured...

  • Problems hooking up a headphones with microph

I have a audigy 2 zs card,I am usuing the digital out connector with spdif enabled,i am trying to hook up a headphone microphone combo,it has to jacks on it a pink and a black,i am not sure what ports to put it in.when i tried to plug it in with the pink in the mic port it no problems but when i put the black in another port (not sure where it should go)the computer restarts with no sound. Thanks

I'll assume that black is the headphone plug and pink is the microphone plug on your headset. The firewire port is on one end of the rear panel of the Audigy 2 ZS. The third /8" jack away from the firewire is LineOut, which is for speakers or headphones. So put your black plug in there. The MicIn is the fourth jack away from the firewire. Put the pink plug in there. If you play a stereo source and can't hear anything out of the headphones with this arrangement (assuming you have the correct Creative Surround Mixer and Speaker Setup settings), try swapping the headset plugs.

  • I am having a problem hooking up my Xbox 360 to my new Toshiba 32" 32DT2U TV...

I just purchased this 32DT2U tv and have an older Xbox 360 with the red, white and yellow AV cables. I hooked up the Yellow (video in) to the Green port, and finally got the sound working, but the screen is grey and white. I see the game and all, but there's no color. Any suggestions? Should I just get an HDMI cable to fix this? Thanks for your help.

There are two types of connections that look similar.
Composite cables are colored red, white, and yellow. The red and white ports are for stereo audio and the yellow port is for video.
Component cables are colored red, white, blue, green, and another red. The red and white pair are exactly the same as the composite ones. They carry stereo audio. However, the HD video is split into components (hence the name) and carried by the blue, green, and red.
Your TV does not have composite ports, and connecting the yellow composite cable to any of those component videos ports will not work.
I thought that the older Xbox 360s came with a cable that had both. In other words, it had the stereo pair for the audio, the three for component video, and the one for composite video. If that's the case, simply ignore the yellow cable and connect the other five. There should be a toggle on the base of the cable that plugs into the 360 with a toggle for SD and HD. Switch it to HD.
Of course, this is all from memory, and I'm definitely not a 360 technical support agent. I'm guessing if your cable was like this, you would have tried, so they must have shipped with different box contents at some point.
You could purchase a component cable or an HDMI cable if you only have a composite cable. Personally, I would go for HDMI.

  • Problem logging onto WRT160N router.

I installed the WRT160N router successfully, setting the type of connection (B/G/N/) to mixed. My laptop and wireless printer see the network just fine, but when I try to logon with the laptop, I get the following error message: "The network password needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ASCII characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal digits." I can't figure out when I go back to the setup of the router which settings need to be changed and to what. The wireless printer can't log on to the router either. Thanks...

Make sure that you are using correct network key (for Ex: 10hex or 26hex digit)  ..... Check the key from the setup page of wireless router .....

  • Problems hooking up my router to my dsl modem

ok, first off I have a emachines computer running on windows millenium edition. A westell dsl modem model 6100, and a linksys wireless G 2.4ghz broadband router  model number wrt54gs version 6. all this connects to a 3com  etherlink xl 10/100 pci tx NIC model number 3C905B-TX. Lastnight I searched for any and all help I could find to install this router due to the multiple problems I had trying to get it all to work together, just as I finally got it working 5 hours later, it was bed time and I shut it all down. I woke in the morning to use the computer and was heavily irritated to find myself back at no internet connection and was unable to get any of this equipment to work again. Now finally after I restored my computers operating system and resetting my dsl modem, I have internet again. I just bought this router and I am very disappointed in how difficult it has been. If anyone could help me on installing this, give me details on exactly what to change, or do to make this work, I would be very grateful. I am aware of the issues between westell modems, verizon dsl and linksys routers. From what I have read its almost not designed to all work together at all unless you tweak with it forever and ever and never shut your equipment down. Please if anyone can help, give me step by step instructions or your experiences that could help me make it work right, please respond, thank you.

Use this LINK as a reference to configure your router to use a DSL connection.  Also go to the linksys web site and make sure your router has the latest firmware.  If not download the latest version and update it.

  • No Problem hooking up Vista laptop with WRT110 Wireless Router but can not get XP laptop to see it

I purchased a WRT110 Linksys wireless router this afternoon and had no problem configuring it for my wired desktp and my wireless Vista laptop, but my Acer XP wireless laptop will not even see the network.  I have tried WEP, WAP, and no security, but I can see the neighbors routers but I can not see mine.  My XP laptop is an Acer 3680-2574 with a  Broadcom 802.11g network adapter.

Is the SSID enabled on the router ?
What is the firmware on the router ?

  • Problem hooking up my mixer for audio output

i'm sorry if this question seems a bit obtuse; however, i'm new to trying to set something like this up. Here goes: I've had 2 Technics turntables, a Pioneer DJM-707 mixer and a Crown amp running to two Peavey Pro-15 speakers for some time. I decided that I wanted to be able to record my mixes, so I bought the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro sound card to facilitate this wish. To capture sound coming out from my mixer's "session out" rca output, I just connect from the mixer's "out" to the Platinum Pro's hub Line In 3 rca connections on the rear side, right? I think this is right; however, the more perplexing issue is that i'm also trying to get the Peavey speakers to play the music I have on my computer now through the mixer, amp, and out of the speakers using the "session in" rca inputs on the mixer. How should I connect the rca cables to the hub? I see a digital out, but really no other output for what the mixer's input looks like it needs. If that explanation was completely incomprehensible, then here's the link to to the Pioneer djm-707 mixer where you can see what the i/o stuff on my mixer looks like: http://www.djdeals.co.uk/prod-downlo...7%20Manual.pdf
Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    I have traveled the same road as you. I wish I had seen Randall's response a month ago. After months of correspondence with Tascam, they finally suggested I exchange my unit for one of their new FW units. The sad part is, their website specifically states that the US-144 works with FCP. It does not. They were very nice about it, here is part of their reply;
"I am sorry for any inconvenience, the US-144's drivers are conflicting in Final Cut Pro at the moment, which is something we are working on. A couple of products to consider that I tested personally and work are the Fireone, a new brand new product of ours that was designed by frontier that is a control surface, computer interface with 2 ins and stereo line out and 2 headphone outputs for only $299.99. You can see more of this product at: http://www.tascam.com/Products/fireone.html Another product to consider is the FW-1082 which is also a control surface with 8 motorized faders and 10 ins and 4 outs with SPDIF I/O for only $599.99. You can view that product here: http://www.tascam.com/Products/fw1082.html Again sorry for any inconvenience and I hope this helps."
After showing my vendor this email, they agreed to exchange my unit for one of the above. Wish I had seen your stuff earlier.
Although it sounds like you've probably already taken care of your issue, I leave this here for others who might be searching (as we were). Good luck!

  • Wireless problems with the WRT160N

Ok, the current computer I am on right now is wired only. And one wireless computer down in the basement is connected fine. But, the other computer in a bedroom tries to connect wirelessly it tries to connect and then doesn't then it does connect but goes back down again. This router is not new, I just pressed the reset button for 30 seconds to restore it to factory defaults, because I totally forgot the username and password for 192.168.1.1.. The reason I wanted to edit the router's seettings (via 192.168.1.1) by enabling some ports for games. Now 1 wireless computer can connect, the other cant
About a half an hour after enabling some ports, now I can't even connect to the 192.168.1.1 but I can still (obvisously) browse the internet (on this computer and the 1 working wireless) succesfully. By the way, I am using this software called DD-WRT (someone very computer tech-y installed it).
Thank you so much if you could help

Hey try resetting the router reset button in such a way that power
light is blinking on the router & then do a complete network power
cycle i.e., unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router &
then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are
solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check out
    it will definately work!!
Try opening the setup page of the router using 192.168.1.1 by putting the password as admin with username as blank & then according to who is the Internet Service Provider try troubleshooting the router & you will be able to go Online!!!

  • Problems hooking TV to iMac

I have an iMac, 21.5" (late 2009 model)
I have a Mini Display Port to HDMI Adapter
    I have a 4 metre HDMI Cable
Plugged the Mini Display Port into my iMac:
    Code:
    http://i56.tinypic.com/wlc0p2.jpg
    Plugged the HDMI into it:
    Code:
    http://i51.tinypic.com/2myzps3.jpg
Then plugged the other HDMI end into my TV:
    Code:
    http://i52.tinypic.com/2uhqngm.jpg
Switched the channel onto the HDMI 1 (which the Cables plugged into)
went on my iMac to detect displays, but nothing...
    what am I doing wrong?
    (first time doing this obviously)
All plugged in but when clicking on 'Detect Displays' it just does nothing, nothing happens... and on my LG TV it just says 'No Signal Detected' :-/
My TV picks up the HDMI because when all is plugged in, the HDMI 'tab' is highlighted (to click onto) but when the HDMI it taken out of the Adapter, the HDMI 'tab' goes grey... so the TV knows the HDMI is plugged into something to use, but the iMac isn't detecting the TV, and the TV just shows 'No Signal' on the Screen....
Im wondering could there be something wrong with the Adapter itself? but then again if something was wrong with it... the TV wouldnt know that it's actually plugged into something for the HDMI 'tab' to become highlighted.

I've got my new Neet wires today...
when plugging in the Neet Adapter and Cable, the TV didnt pick up a HDMI connection,
so i've plugged in the cheap Adapter I bought first with the Neet HDMI Cable and the TV picks up a connection, and the iMac flashes Blue a few times....
but still No Signal on the TV and the iMac doesnt 'detect' my TV!
