Problem HP Deskjet F4180 and

I have an iMac with OSX operating system, version 10.9.4. Recently, I updated the software installing the Maverick OSX. My system also includes HP Deskjet F4180 scanner/printer. After this update,  any scanned document or photo when printed are useless. They turned out all black interspersed with fine lines looking like a black notebook. I also tried to save and then to print them but the result was the same.
I tried to resolve the problem by shutting down the iMac and disconnecting the printer. I also followed the advise to reset the system via System Preference without any success.
I would appreciate any advise how to resolve the issue.

Hi dusan1937,
If you are having issues printing from your iMac, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful. In particular, you may want to check to see if there are any updated drivers available, given that the issue seemed to occur after installing a software update:

    Hi @78Senior,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you cannot print from Windows 8.1 to your HP Deskjet f4180. I am happy to help!
I would recommend to go through this printer is offline guide, 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Will Not Print: Windows 8. When you get to solution four make sure to select USB and follow the steps there as well.

    Help.

Hi - Go ahead and follow the steps in this document to print the alignment page and run through the alignment process.  Make sure you follow the entire process as stated in the document.  If you don't finish the step to scan the alignment page, the printer will continue to print alignment pages.

  • Can't scan using HP Deskjet F4180

    Hi there!
I've got a Mac-Mini running OS X 10.5.1. I have tried to connect a HP DeskJet F4180 to the mac. Printing works fine but I can't seem to scan anything and I don't seem to be able to install HP PhotoSmart Essentials. Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks,
    Jo

Hi I've got the same problem - I can print but I can't scan. HP's website says
"Most HP device installer CDs and Web downloads were created before Mac OS
X 10.5 was released, therefore not all device drivers offer scanning functionality at this point of time.
HP plans to release the first major update until the end of December 2007, which will be focused on All-in-One and Scanner drivers to provide scanning and faxing functionality. Until then scanning functionality is limited to certain HP products."
I guess we just have to wait until next month...

  • I want to scan documents using my Deskjet F4180

I am trying to scan documents using my HP Deskjet F4180 but I don't see it on my laptop

    Hi,
You can scan from HP Scan software or from the printer as shown (page #56 of the manual):
    To scan to a computer
    1. Place your original with the side you want to copy or scan face down on the left front corner of the glass.
TIP: For quality copies, ensure that the scanner glass is clean and that there are no foreign materials adhering to it. For more information, see Clean the glass.
    2. Press Scan.
If the original is a document, the HP All-in-One scans it automatically. If the original is a photo, a preview image of the scan appears on your computer, where you can edit it. Any edits that you make apply to the current scan session only.
The HP Photosmart Software has many tools that you can use to edit your scanned image. You can improve the overall image quality by adjusting the brightness, sharpness, color tone, or saturation. You can also crop, rotate, or resize the image.
    3. Make any edits to the preview image, and then click Accept when you are finished.
    Regards.

  • Deskjet f4180 printer to chromebook

I am trying to hook up my HP Deskjet F4180 to my Google Chromebook that has a Google OS. How do I do this?
I read on a forum that I can register the printer to eprint and then use google cloud to print. But, I'm having trouble finding a printer claim code so I can register the printer and so on......
I can't even find a settings button on this printer that was given to me by my in-laws with no operation manual
    Thanks!!!!

Hi there, first off here's a link to the user guide for your printer, just in case you need to reference at any time in the future
Now in relation to using the printer to print from your Chromebook there's a couple of things to be aware of. Your printer model is not web enabled so it will not have a claim code. Google refer to this type of printer as a "Classic" type printer and this link will provide instructions of how to connect your classic printer with Google Cloud Print which is how you print from a Chromebook.
This YouTube video on printing from a Chromebook with Google Cloud Print may also be of help in getting started.

  • How can I reinstall my Deskjet F4180 if I do not have the install disk

How can I reinstall my Deskjet F4180 if I do not have the install disk

Jerry, welcome to the forum. Since you didn't mention which OS you are using, I provided the Software and drivers page for Win 8.1.  It provides the HP Deskjet F2100/F4100 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver.  This will install the printer.  If the OS is not correct, you can provide the correct one. Please click the "Thumbs up + button" if I have helped you and click "Accept as Solution" if your problem is solved.

  • Deskjet F4180

    Hello hope someone can help,
    My HP Deskjet F4180 CB580A - Regulatory Model VCVRA - 0706
is only printing headers and sides no body of document from internet
also jams and siezes up before finishing this
    end with flashing error light
    ~sbwell

    Sounds like 2 separate problems.
For the partial printing issue, look at this document:
    Print from internet
For the jam issue, since I don't know the exact error shown, I would check a couple of things. First, make sure both cartridges are fully seated in the printer. If it is not fully inserted, it could be sticking up enough to hit inside the printer and cause a jam, and at the same time that cartridge would probably not print correctly. Second, if those are fine, then I would check the path that the paper/media goes through. Something could be loose or fallen into the printer. Paper, tape, pencil, paper clip......I have seen all of those in a printer. If you do not have any luck with that, write back with the error message shown or lights blinking so I have more to go on.

  • Large paper printing in Deskjet F4180

    Hello,
I'm trying to use my Deskjet F4180 to print a paper the size of 21x100 cm. meaning, the width of a normal A4 (therefore fits in to the printer's paprt feeder) - but LONG.
I am printing from Indesign, on a mac, mac os x 10.6.3
I believe it should be possible because I did the exact same thing with an older model of deskjet I used to have (don't remember the model number), indesign and all. back then it worked fine.
but now it doesn't work somehow. I define the paper size at the "print > page setup" in indesign, make sure that the paper is fed from its short side, then get an error message from the printer saying I have a paper size error.
does anyone know how to do it?

Are you using 4x6 paper? And is the photo you are printing 4x6 or autofit?

  • Cannot add HP deskjet F4180 on OS X Mavericks

My Mavericks is updated, but I cannot print any longer on my HP deskjet F4180. I cannot add the printer in the system & preference menu (the menu is empty, except for Adobe PDF 8.0). Please help, I need to print - that is why I have a HP printer after all.

    Hello Jeroenishetbeu,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are trying to install your HP Deskjet F4180 to your Mac running the new Mavericks 10.9 Operating system. The reason you are running into some issues, is because there was no full feature software and drivers made available for the older model Deskjet. With that being said it does not mean you cannot use the printer, it just means there may now be a different way to do things.
To get a better understanding take a look here: OS X v10.9 Mavericks: Installing and Using the Printer on a Mac, here you will be walked through adding the printer using the Apple Updates.
Scanning will be a little different as well: How to Scan: OS X v10.9
I hope this helps, be sure to check out the FAQ's in the first recommendation.
    Thanks,

  • I have a deskjet D1420 and officejet pro L7780 neither print back to front

I have a HP deskjet D1420 and a HP Officejet Pro L7780 and neither one will print the pages from the back to the front.  The option to print back to front has been selected on both printers.
i.e. printing 2 pages and the last page prints first followed by the first page
Any help in resolving this issue will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Please read this post then provide some details.  What operating system?
I do not think the D1420 has an automatic duplexer, but the L7780 should be able to be configured for this.  See the Vista/Windows 7 Duplex Printing Troubleshooting Guide here.

  • Problem with DeskJet 1220C

Hi there, I have one of the old HP DeskJet 1220C and I managed to connect to it via USB using a virtual port. The problem is that whenever I print doesn't matter what it is, the printer always prints out a paper with funny symbols and numbers. Please help me...

I have been able to fix the first problem. The problem was, that the safety switch for the top cover seems to have a defect, so it had to be manually reset. An explanation can be found here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c01065334&dlc=en&product=467982
Afterwards I found, that the printer was unable to grab paper from the paper tray because some of the mechanical parts (especially the rubber paper feed rollers) were stuck because it hadn't been used regullarly. I then disassembled the whole printer (https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repairing+HP+Deskjet+6840+Rubber+Paper+Feed+Rollers/22773) and was able to fix the problem and am now able to print a status page. I will call HP Support again and see whether the region reset will work now.
