Problem iMovie Component Quick Time HD

Hello, I had installed Snow Leopard and I update my iMac to Lion last month.
I try to open iMovie, but I hava a popup message before open the iMovie app, the pop up message says:
The QuickTime components necessary to view, edit, import, and export several kinds of movies are not installed. These components are included with the iMovie installer; please re-install.
I try to reinstall QuickTime, iMovie... but I have the same message. I don't have the DVD install of Lion because I purchased it on the App Store.
Do yo know how can I solve this problem? because when I try to optimize a video, I have a problem too.
Thanks!

Problem resolved:
- I use the DVD of applications of my Snow Leopard and I installed the iMovie again (an old version)
- But my iPhoto broken with the new installation
- I use a backup of my time machine to restore the iPhoto
- I updated the iMovie from the iMovie Updater
- Now, everything is working fine
Thanks!!

I have used still photos to make a Quick Time movie using FCE.  The DVD made using i-DVD looks somewhat grainy and the motion isn’t smooth when played on my TV.  Other DVD’s I have made play much better and I am wondering if the problem is my Quick Time movie settings.  The Dimensions and size of the problem movie are 1920X1080 and 584 MB respectively, while the movies that play better  have Dimensions of 853X480 and are about 1.3 GB in size.  Is this the source of my problem and how do I change things for the better.

Are you exporting to QuickTime Movie, or to QuickTime Conversion?   For iDVD, you need to export to QuickTime Movie.   Exporting to QT Conversion will kill the quality if you are moving the video from FCE to iDVD.
The file size per se makes no difference.
What size (pixel dimensions) are the photos that you put into your 1920x1080 sequence?  Also, exactly what are the sequence properties ... is it 1920x1080i60 ... or i50?  In North America it should be i60.
853X480 is an odd frame size.  Where are you seeing this number?  It would appear to be DV-NTSC, which has a frame size of 720x480.  Your 1920x1080 frame size would not be DV-NTSC, it would be Apple Intermediate Codec.   DV and AIC will look different, for sure.
Also, your quality setting in iDVD can affect the final video.  You may want to check that also (in iDVD Preferences > Projects).  Set it to Professional Quality if at all possible.

  • IMovie and Quick time player

    Hi,
I am a new Mac user. I had problems with QT and today I read that there are some codecs (like 3ivx) that can make problems for QT. I cleaned my Mac and now I can see my movies without problems using QT. But, working with iMovie, I can´t import the movies into event library as I did before.
Do someone know why? The movies are .avi but this was not a problem before...

I have find the reason for my problem. Trying to repair Quick Time Player I loaded some codecs. Those codecs did possible to see AVI movies in Imovie. When I deleted the codecs Imovie stopped to show the films. I did not know that Imovie do not support AVI files.
I spoke with mac support people and they told me that what I need is a convert program to change AVI into mp4 or mpeg4
So now the question is... do you know a good converter and where can I find it?
Also, what is the difference between mp4 and mpeg4?
I am sure that this is basic, but I have just begun with mac....8o§

  • Problems uninstalling/installing Quick Time

I am having problems both uninstalling and installing Quick Time. When I go to uninstall it from the control panel, windows installer starts up and then another pop-up tells me I have the latest version of Quick Time installed. I went and manually deleted all the Quick Time files I could find, downloaded the current version and tried to install it. I get the same response that I have the latest version although all files are gone, plus it is still showing in the Programs and Features in the control panel. By the way my OS is Vista. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now run the utility (“Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up”), select any QuickTime entries in the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, and then click “Remove”.
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click Computer.
    2. In Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)
    7. Restart your computer.
Now try another QuickTime install. Does it go through any better this time?

  • Problem with Safari & Quick Time

I'm puzzled by a problem encountered with using Safari (2.0.3) and Quick Time (7.0.4). If I view an mpg via Safari, save it via Safari (File/Save As) and then go to view the saved mpg in Quick Time, I get the (-2048) error message saying that it's not a file that QT understands. But if I right click the mpg image in Safari, download the linked file and then view in QT it plays o.k. I don't get this problem in other browsers such as Firefox and Camino. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Safari's Save As saves the page, not an individual element on the page (you will notice you have only two format choices: Page Source and Web Archive). The only exception I have seen to his behavior is if there is only one element on the page such as when you open an image in a new window, then Safari will save the image. Control Clicking on the link to download or using the Save button in Quicktime Pro are the easiest way to save movies in Safari, in fact I am in the habit of using those techniques regardless of browser.

  • Imovie output quick time movie button invisible fonts at Mountain Lion

But I have one confusion when I through imoive output the movie to quick time and select option, the button fonts will invisible like a below picture. That’s never happen in lion. And I didn’t know is it the other user have same problem. Also I remember the description should be traditional Chinese, but now is English I don’t know is it a main point caused this issue. My MPB is 2010 mid 15” version. Lastly I hope Apple can tell me how solve this problem.
    Many Thanks!

The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that nothing could be further from the truth has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here:
Where to send product feedback to Apple:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD.

  • How do I fix a problem with Apple Quick Time?

I had Apple Quick Time installed but uninstalled it by accident. From looking at my profile in Mozilla, I seem to have 7 versions of Quick Time all with the same version number.
Should I uninstall all of the versions and start over?
I am currently unable to view any videos using Mozilla. When I use another browser, Quick Time runs fine.

    Hi,
You can try deleting the pluginreg.dat file in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder Firefox Profile Folder] after exiting Firefox. You can also open the profile folder via Firefox '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''H''') > '''Troubleshooting Information''' > '''Show Folder'''.
You can also try to '''Disable''' all the versions except the one working version in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons''' > '''Plugins'''.

  • IMovie 11 quick time movie is in slow motion. why?

Sharing using Quick Time to make HD movie. Movie comes out in slow motion, but audio sounds okay. Followed online suggestions for settings. Settings are as follows: PLEASE HELP!

You don't say how the file was created for youtube. When you export a video from Flash you have a lot of options available to you. You can change the image area size, the frame rate, you can choose one of many video and audio compressors.
As a start, you should keep the image area and the frame rate the same for the video as it was in the original Flash file. When the Adobe Media Encoder opens, your file will show up in the Queue section with a compressor and a preset selected. You can select the format and change it to anything that you want. Since the default format has given you a poor result, select a different format or customize the existing one. There are many, many, options available. Take a look at the Media Encoder documentation for more information on those options.

  • Share iMovie in Quick Time

I'm new to using iMovie, and am trying to take a simple movie I've created and convert it to QuickTime format. The directions say to go to File>share, but that's not a choice. Also, the share pulldown menu has QuickTime listed, but it's grayed out. So is File>export. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Rusty Sue - welcome to the forum!
the File>Share menu option is for iMovie HD(5), not your version.
The greying-out suggests something wrong with your movie - what was the source of the clips?
Are you using an external drive to store your movies? If so it must be formatted for Mac computers - Mac OS Extended.

  • Quick time movies in iPhoto

I have a Panasonic digital camera DMC FX9. When I download stills and short movies from a SD memory card they automatically go into iPhoto. That presents a couple of problems on the quick time movies (.mov). One I don't want them in iPhoto, two if I rename them in iPhoto the new name does not show up in a "smart folder" on my desktop that contains only .mov files.
How can I make SD card downloads separate .mov files from iPhoto pictures? Would like the .mov's to got to the default MOVIE sidebar folder.
If not possible, then how can I make the names in iPhoto show up on a folder of just quicktime movies (they keep the original file name despite the new name in iPhoto)?

    Hi Edward,
When iPhoto 5 first came out I really think it was programmed to import the smaller 30 sec video clips that cameras were taking at the time. Since then, digital cameras, at least my Canon S2 can take clips as large as your memory card can hold. The first time I tried to download my images and movie clips with my new camera, iPhoto stalled at the movie clips. I wasn't going to take any chances messing up my iPhoto Library so I started using Image Capture to download all my images and Movie clips. I actually like doing it this way a lot better. My movie clips are downloaded into my Movies folder where I then put them in a dated folder.
My photos are downloaded into my Pictures folder, where I then put them in a dated folder. I import the dated folder into iPhoto. I also keep all dated folders from photo downloads in the Pictures folder till I get enough Movie folders and Photo folders to fill a DVD. I burn them and then delete them from the hard drive.
This way I have the photos in iPhoto and I also have just the photos backed up to DVD.
The Movies I keep on the hard drive in their dated folders until I use all the clips for my iMovie projects for the Year. I then make sure they are all burned to DVD, then I delete those from my hard drive.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.

  • How do you import a Widescreen Quick Time File captured by Final Cut Pro?

    Hi
Here's my workflow: I captured HD 1440X1080 footage in Final Cut Pro. FCP creates a folder of Quick Time Files in a Scratch Folder. A month ago, I had no problem importing the Quick Time files into IMOVIE HD 6 and preserving the widescreen format.
Now, for some reason, when I import the same files into IMOVIE HD, it is squashing the image (stretching it vertically) and leaving a gray bar on the left side of the screen.
Can IMOVIE HD import Widescreen QT files created by FCP? If so, how?
    All help appreciated.
    Phil

iDVD does everything automatically for you. With DVDSP and Compressor, all steps must be done correctly. The trade off is that you achieve better quality using Compressor over iDVD.
    1. First thing to do is export your sequence as an uncompressed interlaced 25i 720 x 576 16x9 Anamorphic QT.
    2. Determine your optimal bitrate by using a bitrate calculator. Here's a good one. Remember you need to account for all video on the disc, including motion menus.
    http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm
    3. Bring your down converted QT into Compressor and use the manual settings set your bitrate. Also encode out a Dolby digital AC3 file. These files take up less bandwidth than uncompressed audio. Also remember to match your upper fiiled dominate filed order as well in Compressor. This must be consistent throughout the export and encoding stages.
    4. bring your encoded video and audio files into DVDSP and author

  • Want to enlarge size of Quick Time Movie Screen

I have been creating short video movies on my iMovie and transferring them to Quick Time for eventual streaming video viewing on web with the help of Quick Time Pro. The iMovies look great on full screen but when trying to transfer them to Quick Time, they only show up as a small window. I have tried to enlarge the picture by setting Quick Time Preferences to 2x or full screen but they still only show up as small when being viewed. Enlarging them once they are being viewed does distort the quality of the picture. Is there any way I can process a movie for full screen viewing or perhaps 1/2 screen viewing when transferring iMovie to Quick TIme and still retain its original detail. Thank you very much

You need a few html "tricks" to enlarge your video playback. Most can come from the simple scale="tofit" tags. This will resize your .mov file to fit the dimensions you set.
Another way to do this (easier now with QT 7) is to set the movie playback to double, or even full screen, and use the html tag target="quicktimeplayer".
