Problem Importing CD to iTunes

I am trying to import a CD into iTunes.  Everything appears OK (orange goes to green for all the tracks) but when I open iTunes only half the tracks are present.  What is wrong?  Thanks

  • HT4527 Problems importing playlists into ITunes on a new computer

I followed directions from "HT4527: iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer" by using home sharing.  The songs transferred without problem.  I am having problems moving the playlists (over 100 playlists).  I exported the library file with the playlists and saved it to the new computer in the same subdirectory with ITunes.  I have typed out the library file to verify the playlists exist, but when I try to import playlists, the lists that appear on the target computer are either empty or duplicates of the playlists that existed on the target computer.  I am using the latest version of ITunes.  The transferring computer is a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7.  The target computer is an HP Pavilion computer running Windows XP.  Thanks for any help you can give. I have spent many hours trying to transfer the songs and playlists.

If you still have the computer with your original library these are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer, without needing to export and import playlists.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • Odd problem importing folders into iTunes

I am trying to import all my music into itunes, and it is already organised into folders of mp3's.
The problem is with compilation albums. Some seem to have an album created for every track, whilst others may have 3,4,5 or up to 8 tracks in one album, with the rest of the album tracks having their own 'album' in itunes.
Obviously this makes it manic trying to play an album on the ipod classic 160 gig, or find certain tracks.
I did try changing sort fields but that doesn't appear to have any affect at all.
Does anyone know a way around this so that "Love songs" is just one album with 20 songs inside instead of 20 seperate albums each entitled from the song?

See my previous post on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • Problem importing CDs into iTunes

iTunes breaks some of my  imported CDs into multiple folders/albums. How can I combine these back into one album? I have tried drag/drop, but that does not work.

You need to make sure that artist and album artist are the same on all tracks

  • Problem importing video to iTunes

So I have an entire season of a TV show that I've actually had on iTunes before and I've been able to put in some of the episodes but not all of them...I was wondering if there might be something in my settings that is preventing them from being added or if maybe some might not be converted to ipod format. I've done the add file to list and folder (for the season) to list, but only a few will come up, so I made those TV shows (they came up as movies of course) but can't get the rest of my episodes on there, making watching the show very frustrating. Again, I'v had the entire season on here before (my computer crashed but I had the DVD disc so i just did the samwe thing again).
    Ideas?

    Hey guidozero,
Great question. In first section of the article you are referencing, the screenshot is actually of iPhoto; a photo-managing software that comes pre-installed on Mac computers.
You can import photos from your iPhone on Windows computer in a very similar matter, utilizing Windows Photo Gallery. The steps to do so are outlined in the same article.

  • Problems importing photos and iTunes

Have been using iMovie for years - current version 11. All of a sudden, I cannot import photos and music from iTunes into my project. It looks like it will (green plus sign and green bar) but then the perpetual beach ball starts and never stops. I have 22 GB hard drive left and should have plenty of RAM. Bad time for a snag - graduation videos coming up. Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance.

You cannot actually sync photos to iTunes, it just accesses the folder you specified and copies the contents to your iPod. When it says it will replace all photos, it means the ones on the iPod, as you can only either sync (and mirror the contents of your photo folder, whatever it may contain) or not sync (and keep the photos on your iPod the way they are)
Also, copying them to the iPod drive will save them there, but to view them on the iPod, you need to go through iTunes.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problems importing songs

    Hello;
I am having problems importing songs into Itunes. I have itunes version 11.0.1.12, but this the first time I have this problem, At first it woould only import certain songs (not all of them), later on I cannot import any songs into itunes, I am trying to add mp3's, and there should not be an issue, however I tried to burnd a CD, and it does not import then that way neither.
    waiting your response
    JC

    I'm having the same problem, except I think I've isolated it a bit more . . .
My MP3s are stored on a Windows server and my mac mini loads the songs across my network. I noticed there was an album missing from my library. I found the MP3s (a Van Halen CD that I ripped), went to reimport them . . . and nothing. I ended up doing a complete wipe (preferences, library files, everything) of iTunes, reinstalled iTunes 7.7, and copied the MP3s over to my local mini hard drive. They still refused to import.
I took the MP3s and checked out the ID3 tags in Tag&Rename on my Windows server. Everything appeared to be fine. However, I used Tag&Rename to completely delete ALL ID3 (v1 and v2) information in the MP3s. Once I did that, they imported into iTunes just fine.
Now, here's the kicker: Using iTunes, I setup the information again, and then rewrote the ID3 tags using iTunes (v2.3). After a few listen-tos and restarts (and syncing to my iPod) the songs are now refusing to import again.
I've had these MP3s in my iTunes library for years now. I've never had a problem playing them at all. As far as the MP3s being corrupted, I can play the MP3s just fine using QuickTime or using Finder's Preview view. It's only iTunes that refuses to acknowledge them.
Any thoughts? Anything else I can try?

  • Error trying to import CD into iTunes

I put a music CD into my Mac. iTunes read it, found the album name, track names, etc. I clicked on "Import CD" (my import settings are set to Apple Lossless, Error Correction=on). Received an error message that said "Error occurred while converting the file - An Unknown Error Occurred (-50)". It happens with any audio CD that I put in. I don't think I've changed anything in my system, so I'm at a bit of a loss...up until this week, I've not had any problems importing CDs into iTunes (I've imported hundreds of CDs into my library over the last few years)...
    Any ideas?

Something was wrong with the iTunes library. I pointed iTunes to a different library, then pointed it back, and everything was fine.

  • Importing CDs to itunes

    Hello,
I've been having some problems importing music into itunes from CD. I've had no luck with the hypothesis that itunes is to blame so I thought I'd see if anyone had had a similar experience with their disk drive.
The problem only occurs when importing music files through itunes. All other types of data seem to copy over normally when dragged and dropped. This problem occurs sporadically and randomly. It doesn't occur evey time.
A music CD will often stop importing half way through and leave me with no choice but to force quit itunes.
Does anyone have any ideas? I haven't got very far with the itunes forums other than a few people with similar experiences and no solution. Could the drive need cleaning? Can this be done on a Mac Book Pro? Or is the problem more serious?
    Many thanks,
    Thom

If I play the CD directly from itunes, the track will play perfectly. The problem only occurs when importing through itunes. The problem has occurred when importing both older and brand new, fresh from the box, CDs.
The encoding is set to MP3 encoder at High Quality (160 kbps) in itunes preferences. The CDs in question are CDs bought from a shop, not MP3 disks. I have the latest version of itunes available.
Thanks for all your suggestions. Still looking for the permanent answer.

  • Problem to import music to itunes

i have a problem i download music from limewire and im not able to transfer it to my itune program to put it in my ipod shuffle, i wanna know if its possible and if it is how can i do it thanks

Most likly the ID3 tags are corrupt, iTUnes tends to be very picky on a windows based PC. Theres no one way to test a MP3 for corrupt ID3 tags but you can search the net for a program called "TidyMP3". With this program you will use it to basicly "Strip" the tags off the MP3, Import it into iTUnes, then use iTUnes to create a new tag for the MP3 by rightclicking it, selecting get info, and typing all the info about the song in.
A ID3 tag is a tag attatched to most MP3s that will tell you and other programs that use it basic info like artist, name of song, album, Lyrics, year, artwork and other things

I am having problems importing some CDs into iTunes on a laptop with Windows 8. Most CDs import without problem. The ones I can't import can be imported into iTunes with Windows 7. Does anybody know why this problem is occurring?

First-off, this seems to be a general problem with 10.4 (across all the operating systems of which I am aware).  Unfortunately, I cannot provide a permanent solution but, if you need a quick fix, this will (hopefully) work for you.
For some inexplicable reason, iTunes no longer recognises standard Windows paths.  For example:
    Y:\Music\Buddy Holly\Buddy Holly - Rave On.mp3
The end result is that it will import a playlist with no content.
It will, however, recognise the equivalent Apple paths which look like this:
    file://localhost/Y:/Buddy Holly/Buddy Holly - Rave On.mp3
It is possible to convert your existing playlists using a few basic replace commands in something like Notepad.  In my case, I made some code changes in my music manager and now generate two sets of playslists (one standard and one to accommodate iTunes).
Forgive me foir stating the obvious but please remember to make sure that the disk / path containing your music is accessible when doing the import otherwise you will probably get a blank result.  Note that you can do a bulk import by selecting all the (revised) playlists and dragging them onto the iTunes sidebar.
I am sorry that this is not a "clean" solution but it will work if you are in a bind.  The only alternative of which I am aware is to wait for Apple to fix the problem.

  • Surprising problem with importing files in iTunes 8

iTunes has suddenly started acting a bit strange. Here's the situation:
I downloaded some albums from eMusic. I have been an eMusic subscriber since 2005 and have imported hundreds of albums into previous versions of iTunes with no problem.
Today, suddenly, iTunes refuses to import some albums, imports random individual tracks from other albums (but not the entire album), and imports some albums in their entirety with no problem.
I've dragged folders and individual files to iTunes and used the "Add to Library" command to select folders and individual files. I've restarted iTunes, restarted the MacBook, unmounted the external drive, and remounted the external drive. I repaired permissions. I verified the external drive (it appears to be healthy). The result is always the same.
    For example:
iTunes will not import John Coltrane's "Lush Life" at all.
iTunes imports the last 4 tracks of "Thunder" by SMV, but not the first 8.
iTunes imports all of "Live" by Pharoah Sanders.
    What's going on?
Some info: iTunes Library contains 25033 items, 78.5 days, 149.62 GB.
The external drive on which my iTunes Library resides has 283.76 GB available.
My internal hard drive (a 200 GB Hitachi) has 106.46 available.
I am running file vault: could that have something to do with it?
I'll appreciate any suggestions and or help. Thanks.

    wow
I was just thinking about downloading 8 but not until I hear more about this.
I just joined emusic and downloading is a breeze with 7. It goes straight into iTunes without having to import separately.
I was going to check out the emusic forum but it was down.

  • Problems importing .mp3 files to itunes

I'm having problems importing .mp3 files to itunes, it's importing the song name tage with "artist - song title" when it should just be the song title?

    Chad,
Glad to hear that Steve's script was helpful.
As to the bug, I don't know.  The problem you report is not common.  Usually when iTunes displays artist-title in the Name field, it is either an untagged MP3 or a WAV file, but in those cases it does not correct itself when you give it a kick.  Between that and the non-refresh problem you report, I think there is something else going on besides a tagging issue.  At your convenience, you may want to reinstall the newest iTunes, and see if it helps.
    Anyway, enjoy the music!
