  • Continual problem importing CDs

For years now I have had problems importing CDs, and I am at my wit's end. Many times when I import a CD, I finish, eject the CD, and find that my songs are no where to be found on itunes. Often time they will hang out in the "recently added" playlist, but even then, if I had gone through the trouble of "getting info" and changing the song descriptions and what not, those changes would surely not be shown there. Furthermore, I can't seem to get itunes to recognize the tunes even when they are in this recently added area.
    Please help.

I have lost songs in the past and this is what I did to fix it. iTunes uses an on-line service called Gracenote to get the details like song titles, album title, artists, genre and so on. One of those bits of info is whether or not the CD in question is a compilation. This data was entered by people like you and me. If Gracenote doesn't have it in its database, it will prompt you to enter the info and the next person will have it ready to go.
You can search under artist (CTL+B) to look for "Compilations" or you can also look under "Various Artists"
iTunes files albums by ALBUM ARTIST when possible. Gracenote doesn't give that info so if there is a guest artist on one song, that song shows up as a separate album. I fix this by highlighting every song in that album and right-click to GET INFO (CTL+I) and fill in the blank for ALBUM ARTIST.
A more basic check is to look in EDIT > PREFERENCES > ADVANCED to see where iTunes puts things by default. I have a pretty big library, so I installed a separate drive and made that my default. Right below the drive location is a couple of important check boxes.
"Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" means that iTunes will create folders by ALBUM ARTIST (or ARTIST if you didn't fill in the blanks) and each album as a sub-folder.
"Copy Files To iTunes Media Folder when adding to Library" If you have music files in your computer (thumb drive, desktop, e-mail, MP3 disc, etc) and you add them to your iTunes Library, they stay right there if this box is not checked. iTunes knows where to find them (until you pull the thumb drive out) If you check this box, iTunes puts a copy in the Library: MUSIC > ALBUM ARTIST > ALBUM >
There is another check box that helps find lost songs FILE > LIBRARY > ORGANIZE LIBRARY > CONSOLIDATE FILES

  • Problems importing CDs

Hi, I have seen other discussions on problems importing CDs & Gracenote. I have the following problem.
Using iTunes 10.2 on my laptop, CDs will not import when I am connected to the internet at home, but the same CDs will import when I am at work.
At home the import will run very slowly (takes several hours) and eventually report as completed but although the tracks are on the hard drive they are unplayable. At work, on the same laptop, the import completes in a matter of minutes and the tracks are playable.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this and any suggestions on a solution? I don't want to haul my entire CD collection to work to import it (not to mention my employers don't like it).
The other thing to note is my home desktop machine exhibits the same characteristics as the laptop at home (very slow, unplayable once completed).
    Cheers.

You'd probably be better off posting this in the iTunes discussions. Check your import encoder settings.

I think its the converting into "AAC" files it has problems with but im not sure. But if anyone can help me with this problem itd be great, cheers. (p.s. here are my computer specs.)

alright, ive tried importing songs that ive ripped from cds through media player onto itunes but again it crashes, i noticed when i ran the diagnostic it said "If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.

  • Cannot import CDs onto media folder on external router drive

I put the media folder on an external drive attached to our router.
I have mapped the drive to my computer and give it a letter.
I used 'Import CD' to rip two CDs and the songs show up in the selected media folder on the external hard drive.
Something happened and the media folder changed to my local hard drive.  I ripped 2 CD's before realized I needed to point the media folder back to the external hard drive.
Now, when I try to rip CDs it says it cannot write or read the disk.
    I'm not sure what happened?
Esentially I want to rip all of my CDs onto the networked hard drive (as MP3s) and also then use the iMatch to put the songs on all devices.
    Any ideas:
    (1) why I can no longer rip to the networked drive?
    (2) is there a better way to rip all of my CDs onto a drive as MP3's and have them in iTunes?
    Windows 8, iTunes 11.0.4.4
    Thanks!

Ok, not an iTunes issue, some how the external hard drive started recognizing my laptop as administrator and prohibited all others from write access.
Connected it to my laptop, right clicked on it, properties, and set 'Everyone' to have full access.
Now I can hopefully go back to ripping CD's to it as MP3s and keep my media library there.

  • Im importing cds onto my itunes but they are coming up with no track names/artists etc, itunes is saying i have no internet connnection but im on my laptop and im online, can anyone help? ive never had this issues before? they are legit cds from HMV?

Im trying to import cds i got for xmas onto my itunes and they arecoming up with no artist/album cover or track names, when i click get track info it says i have not internet connection, but im on my windows laptop and can get on the internet, is there something i need to so in itunes tmake it rcognise the album details?

    Hey there lollypops21,
It sounds like you are connected to the internet otherwise, but iTunes is giving you this error message when trying to get info from the Gracenote database to retrieve your album info. I had a couple of articles I wanted to recommend you try. First this one named:
iTunes for Windows can't access the Internet if proxy settings are incorrect
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1490
You can always enter in the album information manually with this article if needed:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Edit song and CD information
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12360
    Customize song and CD info
You can edit information in the Info window to make it easier to find and sort items in your library. For example, you can:
Group individual movements on a classical CD into one work by indicating the name of the work (for example, “Piano concerto in A Minor, Op. 54”) in the Grouping field.
Group songs that are part of a compilation together in your library by clicking the Info button and selecting the “Part of a compilation” checkbox.
Identify the individual artists on a tribute album in the Artist field, and type “various” in the Album Artist field.
Create your own genre category by clicking Info and typing the category in the Genre field.
Change the order in which tracks on a CD play by changing the numbers in the Track Number fields.
Create a Smart Playlist that includes only songs that are just the right speed for your workout by typing the number of beats per minute in the BPM field. For instructions, see Create a Smart Playlist.
Identify a movie as a music video (click the Options button, and choose Music Video from the Media Kind pop-up menu).
Identify an item that you imported from a CD as an audiobook, so it appears under Audiobooks instead of Music (click the Options button and choose Audiobook from the Media Kind pop-up menu). If you do this, iTunes also remembers your place in the audiobook.
Enter custom sorting criteria for an item. Select the item, choose File > Get Info, click Sorting, and enter the custom text.
iTunes retrieves CD information from the Gracenote media database. For more information, visit the Gracenote website.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Problem importing CDs into iTunes

iTunes breaks some of my  imported CDs into multiple folders/albums. How can I combine these back into one album? I have tried drag/drop, but that does not work.

You need to make sure that artist and album artist are the same on all tracks

  • Having problems importing CDs into itunes10

i have recently noticed that my imac is very reluctant to import CDs into itunes10 - as well as letting me burn data to CDs/DVDs.
sometimes it will let me burn a CD into itunes, but it will be very slow (used to be around x20 speed) and there will be 'clunking' sounds coming from the drive.
sometimes if it does appear to have imported a whole CD, the tracks have a length of 0:00!
is this a faulty drive, due to my imac being a fair few years old (i would hope that apple make their drives last a little longer than just a few years) - or just some kind of bug that needs fixing?
i would really appreciate if anyone could help me out - as i'm not keen on taking my imac in for repair!

    Abstractman23 wrote:
ok i'll try toast. but yes, i fear it may be the drive. do think i should take the imac in for repair (probably will cost too much, and be a huge hassle) - or just buy a drive that can burn/import CDs?
    many thanks!
Good question.   If you do find that the drive is bad, you may want to call ahead to Apple and get an idea what a 1 for 1 replacement would cost.
External CD drives that connect via USB are relatively inexpensive, but leave you with more wires and junk on your table.

  • Problem Importing CDs

I own some cds that I can't import into itunes for various reasons. Some it will import the songs but the sound is all scrambled and others come with their own independant player and only allow you to import the songs into windows media player and then doesn't allow you to import the songs into itunes.
Is there anyway I get these songs into itunes or onto my ipod without illegaly downloading them or purchasing the album off itunes and essentially paying twice for the same ablum???
      Windows XP

If they do not have this logo on it, they are most likely not a true Audio CD.
If it has extra stuff on it, it is an enhanced CD.
Also, there is copy protection on some CDs.
Usually, these cannot be read by iTunes (or other programs).
    Sometimes they can.
Write a letter to the label AND to the artist and complain. Really.
Let them know you are extremely dissatisfied with the CD because of the incompatibility.

  • Problems importing CDs after upgrade

I have upgraded to the latest version of Quicktime and iTunes. Now when I pop in some CDs to import them (or, in this case, to re-import them at a higher bitrate, to match the songs I've upgraded through iTunes Plus), my MacBook won't mount the disc. It tries to read it for about 30 seconds and then spits it out.
The funny thing is that these are CDs that I have successfully imported in the past.
Is anyone else running into this problem?
MacBook Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Looks like some of my old CDs were dirty. Other CDs were clean but my MacBook is just fussy. My partner's old PowerBook imports them just fine.

  • Importing CDs after Recent Upgrade

After a recent upgrade I am unable to import CDs onto my Ipod. This seems to be a problem with I-Tunes. If I want to a warning message comes up saying I will lose all existing music which I don't want to do. Has anyone got any suggestions?

    Hello again
Sorry. There actually is another option, but given the fact you are using an upgraded Word I figured it wasn't worth mentioning. The other option is to reinstall Word 2003 and use it alongside Word 2010. I'm not sure, but Peter Grainge may have info on his site on how to do this.

  • Imported CDs - poor quality

I have had problems importing cds recently whereby during playback on my ipod classic(80g) the sound quality is really poor, crackly and unlistenable. I recently changed the import setting from AAC to AIFF because after downloading 10.1 I was unable to import cds. I dont know if this is related. Please can someone offer any advice.
    Cheers,
    Tommo

Ah! Well if they sound bad in iTunes, that's why they sound bad on your iPod. So in other words, the importing of the CD to iTunes is where the problem is being introduced, so....
Look in your iTunes (where you found the import kbps settings), *Edit/Preferences/General/Import Settings* and just below the Details box - do you see the *Use error correction when reading Audio CDs?* Presumably, there is no tick-in-the-box at the moment, so select it now (so there is a tick-in-the-box!)
As you'll notice from the text beneath that box, it should sort out the import problem, but only for new imports. It means you'll have to import those faulty albums again and it may take longer too, I'm afraid.
If that gets rid of the noise problem and yet the problem has only just occurred, the explanation is probably be that something else on your computer is interfering with the import process or with the CD drive or that the CD drive has become faulty. If you think that may be the case, how and whether you get it repaired will be up to you to decide.
    Phil
P.S. Actually, one more test you can try, does the CD sound bad if you play it on your computer, using iTunes? That's "playing the CD itself", not what you imported into iTunes?

  • Import CDs

I'm having problems importing CDs to itunes.
When I insert a disc the 'Player' automatically starts to play the disc. I've set itunes as the default audio player but that doesn't help. I may have installed/downloaded 'Player' in error and now I can't get rid of it.
