Problem Importing Footage From a DVD

I had posted a question about a week ago asking how to import footage from a DVD into FCE. Per Tom Wolsky's suggestion -- thank you very much-- I connected my DVD player to an analog/digital converter in order to capture my video material. Although FCE is recognizing the DVD player (evident by the fact that when I click "capture" the video is displayed in the capture window ), however, FCE won't actually capture the video when I click "capture now".
When the "capture now" window pops up it displays the message: "Waiting for time code. Device must be in VTR mode when device control is enabled." I can't figure out how how to correct. It seems that I'm only one step away from my objective of capturing the DVD. Would appreciate any guidance to get me over this final hurdle. Thanks.

Yes. ANY time you want to capture from a non-timecoded or non-controllable source, use that setting.

How do I import footage from a dvd that i made on imovie, back into imovie?

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

  • Problem importing footage from Canon XF305 into fcp

I have footage from a card having recorded on a Canon XF305. I literally dragged and dropped card onto my desktop making sure not to change any file names. I am now trying to import this footage from my desktop into fcp. I have downloaded the canon fcp plugin but everytime I try to import the footage using the canon plugin preferences I get an error message which reads... "AA0229" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media. Can anyone help me??

    Hi there,
I've had no joy with this. Have tried everything. Just can't get footage into fcp any way I try. I have downloaded the plugin but I still get the same error message. "AA0229" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.
My work flow is as follows.
Open final cut pro. Go to log and transfer. Go to preferences within the log and transfer window and click on Canon XF plugin. Then go to import. Click on file on my desktop which is labeled as CLIPS001. Then error message comes up.
Memory card was dropped directly onto my laptop and onto a back up drive without changing any file names. Was thinking this would be straight forward.
Any help will be hugely appreciated. Am I missing something simple?

  • Im having problems importing footage from sony z1e to i movie 08

    any ideas??
    need it done now!!
im using a fire wire from the cam to the mac book pro, i movie is only showing the built in i sight and no sony z1
    HELPPPPPP please

I also use a pro level Sony Z5U with the slow mo ... it's sweet.  By the way, if you record a session over 10 to 12 minutes, most avchd cameras break up the MTS files into 2GB chunks or segments.  If you just bring them all in and try to stitch them back together you will end up with little gaps of around a half second where you put them together.  It disrupts an otherwise perfect video.  When you use clipwrap, you can select "Convert Multiple as Spanned" from its menu, and clipwrap will put them back together properly ... no gap.  Best wishes.

  • Import chapters from our DVD - legally!

We have various DVDs from my daughter's dance studio that the studio wants me to place online at our website - (I should say chapters or dance numbers, not the whole DVD, obviously) so that viewers can sample our dance tech by watching the imovies online.
I can, taking the long way 'round, import the DVD chapters to my video camera and import them to iMovie 6HD, but I have Mac the Ripper, and also MPEG streamclip - both of which work, however, I'm told that I need to get the MPEG-2 playback component from Apple, which I'm willing to do.
What format does iMovie neeed to import video in from this source? I want to import the footage from the DVD (via MacRipper & MPEG Streamclip) create the movie in iMovie, and then upload it to our studio's dot Mac website as I usually do.
Alternatively, what is the best/shortest/easiest way to get certain chapters off our DVDs and make our imovies with them?
    Thanks,
    Rachel.

    concerning mpeg4 as final format:
I made a few "side by side tests" with my QT6pro and iSquint...
using the same (small) bitrate, results of iSquint are by far better, then QT6's mpeg4...! (it uses its own/the ffmpeg algorithms...) esp. titles are crystal clear/no jaggies, or transitions don't show any artifacts....
iSquint has some limitations in size/res, but a web-video shouldn't be full-screen, should it?
so, esp. when crunching video very small, I do recommend export as FullQuality.dv and let iSquint (free) do the job...
audio... mono is for most videos good enough on the web... ;-))

  • Easiest way to load footage from a DVD?

What is currently the easiest/fastest way to import video on a previously authored DVD into iMovie? I should point out that the application does not involve copyrighted material -- I simply want to rework DVDs that I made years ago. I have gotten good results by playing back with a DVD player and using a Canopus ADVC-300 to convert to DV, but surely there must be a better way by now. I am looking forward to the day when one can simply insert a DVD into the computer and import footage directly into iMovie. Why does this capability not exist? Is it not something that would obviously be useful? There exists a program called Prism that allows one to extract footage from a DVD, but this approach requires the intermediate step of a Quicktime file, which must then be imported into iMovie, and I'm not sure if it preserves high quality.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:

  • Problems importing connections from a SAN directory

Is anybody having a problem importing connections from a directory that's on a SAN?
My network is setup so that the Application Data directory is out on a SAN and when SQL Developer opens up the file dialog, current directory is listed as C:\ and entry in the file name field is file://<server>/<path to my stuff>/Application Data/SQL Developer/. This looks fine but when I click on the "Open" button to get the directory listing, an error dialog pops up with the following message:
The directory C:\file:\<server>\<path to my stuff>\Application Data\SQL Developer is not accessible. Please select a different directory.
When I change the current directory to the drive that maps the SAN location, I get the same message only with C: replaced with another drive letter.
If I had to guess, the dialog is not processing the file:// protocol indicator properly before it attempts to get the directory listing. Does anyone have a work around?

Other users also had problems with network shares, so you're right that might very well be the cause of your problems.
As workaround, try mapping the settings folder to a local drive. Add this to \sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf:
    AddVMOption -Dide.user.dir=C:\sqldeveloperHope that helps,
    K.

  • How do I Import footage from Premier Pro CS3 to After Effects?

    Hi
As the subject says, how do I import footage from premier pro cs3 into after effects. I'm getting rather frustrated trying to figure this out.
Via copy & paste I can copy into after effects but this copys the whole of the track on the timeline, where as I just want 10 seconds copied. The 10 seconds I want to copy is a segment & was highlighted when I clicked copy.
Also when the full track gets copied, all my edits aren't copied & I get the raw track copied???
I've googled this, tried the "Add Dynamic Link" but all I want is to copy 10 seconds of footage from premier into after effects, add my effect & then copy it back, and I can't figure out how to do this simple thing
    Any help
    Thanks.

I am still not getting this.
I highlight the selection I want to copy into after effects. I copy & paste it & it pastes my entire footage without any off the edits I have made.
Having searched loads for this I can find no other answer than copy & paste.
Please please could you guy be more specific with your answers as I just can't figure this one?

  • Problem Importing photos from camera to iPhoto

Help. For a while I had no problems importing photos from my camera now I get the following error message:- /private/var/folders/CC/CC5eraW2GGCddoAX3DUGjE+TM/-Tmp-/iPhoto/PICT1015.JPG
Does anyone know what this means? What I have done to my computer to cause this? and how to fix it. Thank you.

    Sam
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Launch Image Capture (in your Apps Folder) and use it to move the pics to the desktop. Then try import from there.
If that works, then use your camera to reformat your card, and see if that works in the future.

  • Problem Importing Music from

Hello, I just setup my network attached storage and I'm having problems importing music from it. I get a runtime error with CTImport.exe "abnormal program termination", nice and informati've (see below). I'm running MediaSource 3.30.2, the most recent version. I can add songs little by little, but anytime I try and import a bunch, I get the error. It's not the length of the pathname either, because I added the longest one individually, and it was fine.
I tried importing from a mapped dri've letter and from the network path directly, both have same problem. I also get the same error from the file sniffer built into MediaSource.
I'm actually running an external USB hard dri've that is attached to Linksys's Storage Link NLSU2 (or something). Don't know if that is the problem. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    <IMG src="http://www.dustinandalison.com/Ebay Pics/MediaSourceError.JPG">

Yes, I originally had all my songs on my local dri've. Anyway, it turned out to be a "corrupt" file. This file was fine in every other media player I had, but MediaSource couldn't do anything with it, not even play it (it was an unprotected .wma). I don't know if that song was originally imported while on the local dri've, but I deleted it and MediaSource imported everything fine.
It was a pain hunting that one song down.
    Thanks.

running on a mac osx 10.7.5 and need to import video from a dvd to edit in on final cut X

  • Importing Footage from Camera (Log and Capture)

I am importing footage from my camera onto FC. Now my laptop doesn't have nearly enough space to import all the footage, but I have an external HD with 500 GB which is more than enough. But when I press log and capture, it immediately takes up space on the computer. Is there a way to import the footage directly to the hard drive?
    thanks.

In Final Cut Pro, go to the menu Final Cut Pro > System Settings.
When the System Settings Pane opens, on the Scratch Disks Tab, you can deselect your system disk and select your external drive as the location for the media you are using. You need to deselect the system drive, not just add your external. When done, click OK. Any media you have already transferred to the system disk will still be available for use in the edit, this will direct FC to use your external as the media storage device from this point forward.
Your external drive should be connected to your computer via firewire or esata, USB (other than USB3) is not recommend for video work, and may give you performance issues.

  • Can you import video from a DVD?  If so how

Can you import video from a DVD? I have some home DVD's made on my PC. My PC program (Roxio) allowed me to pull clips off of a DVD, but I can not seem to figure out how to do it with iMovie on my Mac.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi, I'll see if I can help. The only way I know of importing directly from iMovie off of a DVD is with a converter box hooked up to an external DVD player. However there are a few freeware programs you could try. One is Handbrake, with it you can convert your DVD into a MPEG-4 file, this is incredibly easy however the quality will be a little lower than that of a DVD. Another program is MactheRipper which will rip the entire DVD onto your hard drive but you will have to hunt through all the files to find the ones you want. I hope this helps.

  • How do I import 8mm from a DVD?

I had an outside service put some old home movies (8mm) on a DVD. How or can I import this from the DVD so that I can add Titles, sound and also edit?
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Or, to put it another, kinda more helpful way...
    Do a search for "Streamclip".
I'd tell you, but I don't know enough about it. It will certainly do what you want, though.
    Cheers.
