Problem importing footage from Canon XF305 into fcp

I have footage from a card having recorded on a Canon XF305. I literally dragged and dropped card onto my desktop making sure not to change any file names. I am now trying to import this footage from my desktop into fcp. I have downloaded the canon fcp plugin but everytime I try to import the footage using the canon plugin preferences I get an error message which reads... "AA0229" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media. Can anyone help me??

Hi there,
I've had no joy with this. Have tried everything. Just can't get footage into fcp any way I try. I have downloaded the plugin but I still get the same error message. "AA0229" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.
My work flow is as follows.
Open final cut pro. Go to log and transfer. Go to preferences within the log and transfer window and click on Canon XF plugin. Then go to import. Click on file on my desktop which is labeled as CLIPS001. Then error message comes up.
Memory card was dropped directly onto my laptop and onto a back up drive without changing any file names. Was thinking this would be straight forward.
Any help will be hugely appreciated. Am I missing something simple?

  • Problem importing 720p from Canon 7D into iMovie at "Full original size"

When I import 720p footage into iMovie from my 7D at "Full original size" , it seems to be reducing them to the "Large" size 960 x 540. When I try to export to QT file at 720p 16:9, it comes out 960 x 540. Any help much appreciated

You're right it should work .... but in practice not always.
You have the latest and greatest mac laptop but your camcorder is frankly a bit dated. So my suggestion is to give it the signal that it wants.

  • Can't import AVCHD from Canon F10 into FinalCutPro 6.0.4 via USB

Can't import AVCHD from Canon F10 into FinalCutPro 6.0.4 via USB. When opening Log&Transfer in FCP, no files show up (the Log&Transfer window do not seem to recognize the files on the camera). The camera shows up in Finder, though. - Do I need a driver?

sorry, of course USB is available for L&T, I use it every Friday so I should know better, I got two replies mixed up completly so thanks for correcting my mistake.
what I meant to suggest was if the camera does not show in finder or in L&T check the camea menu setting is set to connect to the hard drive and not from the camera or memory card.

  • Problem Importing Footage From a DVD

I had posted a question about a week ago asking how to import footage from a DVD into FCE. Per Tom Wolsky's suggestion -- thank you very much-- I connected my DVD player to an analog/digital converter in order to capture my video material. Although FCE is recognizing the DVD player (evident by the fact that when I click "capture" the video is displayed in the capture window ), however, FCE won't actually capture the video when I click "capture now".
When the "capture now" window pops up it displays the message: "Waiting for time code. Device must be in VTR mode when device control is enabled." I can't figure out how how to correct. It seems that I'm only one step away from my objective of capturing the DVD. Would appreciate any guidance to get me over this final hurdle. Thanks.

Yes. ANY time you want to capture from a non-timecoded or non-controllable source, use that setting.

  • Can't import mxf-files (Canon XF100) into FCP 10.0.8 after Mavericks

    Hello
It's not possible for me, to import mxf-files into FCP.
I haven't yoused FCP for a couple of days, but today I could not import files from my Canon XF100, so i think the problems came with Mavericks??
Does any of you have same problems?
    What to do?
    Kind regards
    Thomas (Denmark)

    Hi Russ -
I downloaded the utility and driver from here:
    http://www.learn.usa.canon.com/resources/blogs/2012/20120223_xf_utilities_and_pl ugin_updates.shtml
But after looking around realized it isn't updated for Mavericks yet. I was only given two files and both weren't in any sort of directory structure- here is a screenshot.
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Anyone have any luck importing native from Canon XF305 camcorder?

I am running Lion and FCP X 10.0.5........Wonder if anyone has a recommendation for cleanest situation other
than native if they have been using it with X allready
    Many thanks

I'm importing from XF cameras as we speak.
Here's the problem I'm trying to work around though.....
My understanding was that FCP X could import footage 'in the background' while you get to edit.
Hmmm..... well, to a certain extrent it can, as in you can keyword etc, but if you even think about skimming over some footage, set in/out or add anything to the timeline then importing pauses.
Am I missing something fundamental here?     This is not what I call importing in the background.
    Ideas?

  • How to bring footage from my DVD into FCP

    Hi,
I REALLY need some help! I edited my film in FCP and burned in DVDSP, the same goes for the raw footage. They are both now on a DVD. My problem is that I let my friend borrow the raw footage tapes (bad mistake I know!) and now he cannot find the tapes. So I want to know if it is possible to take the raw footage back off the DVD without loosing any quality, and to bring it back into FCP? Thanks SO much for the help!

Without losing ANY quality? Sorry, quality was lost when you encoded for DVD. More quality will be lost when you rip the footage off the DVD, and more lost again when you encode again for DVD.
Sorry bud. Gotta press your friend more.

  • How do import footage from Canon Vixia HV40 to Macbook Pro?

    Hello everyone,
I am in dire need of help! I have to edit video footage from a conference and all of it was filmed on the Canon Vixia HV40. I received a slip in the camcorder bag that said make sure computer and camera are off before plugging in firewire wire. Once plugged in, turn the computer on first, then turn the camera on. I've tried this but my macbook is not recognizing any external plug in.
I downloaded the Canon Vixia software but it keeps giving me this error message: No camera found.
I've searched the interwebs for different solutions but I'm at a loss as to what I should do. Also, is there a way of importing the footage directly to Final Cut Pro X?
    My macbook specs are:
    2.6 GHz intel core i7 v10.8.
If anyone can give me specific, step-by-step instructions, I would be so grateful!

    That camera shoots AVCHD.
Are you using Log & Transfer to access the footage?
Can you see the camera's storage in the Finder?

  • What is the best way to import pictures from Lightroom 5 into FCP X

What is the  best way to transfer pictures from Lightroom 5 into Final Cut Pro X?

There is no one best way.  If, for instance, you want to be able to zoom into the picture with a Ken Burns effect then you may want to save out a very high res version that will be larger than your video resolution. Just use Lightroom to export a jpg file wherever you want it. You could export it into the Events folder and then choose not to copy it when you import it within FCPx. You could import the picture into iPhoto and then access it directly from within FCPx. Those are two simple, "regular" ways to get it into FCPx but if you are not going to Ken Burns the image by zooming into it and such you will want to crop it in Lightroom to the same size you will be using ie if you are making 720HD video then crop the image to that size and proportion before you export it from Lightroom.

  • Importing video from Canon ZR45mc into iDVD

The issue I'm having is when I connect it to my MacBook Pro and perform a "one-step DVD" in the program "iDVD," it records, but it is very jumpy. To better explain, it is not a smooth recording, but instead jumps forward every second or two. So, needless to say, my recording is unwatchable. It's sort of like fast forwarding through the video. I am using a "Firewire 800 cable 9 to 4 pin" connected to my MacBook Pro and it makes me wonder if the signal is not getting through and being received at the same consistency that the camcorder is sending it because there is a window on my Mac that allows me to see the video as it is being played, and when I compare it with the LCD screen on the camcorder it is not keeping up at all. Sorry for the long explanation but I wanted you to have the same information I have so maybe you could better diagnose it for me. Thank you for your time. I should also mention that I had no problem importing into iMovie, so I don't believe it has to do with my firewire cable.

You're right it should work .... but in practice not always.

  • Problem Importing Photos from Aperture 3 into iPhoto '11

I store my photos in Aperture 3, but import them into iPhoto to create calendars, cards, etc. I usually work with RAW or high resolution JPG images in Aperture. However, when I import these into the new iPhoto '11, it automatically converts my RAW images into very low resolution images (e.g., 100-200k instead of at least 1-2MB). I cannot seem to find an option to change this. This was not a problem with the old iPhoto. To import, I start in iPhoto, then click "Show Aperture Library", then drag my photos/folder. I would like to have an option to import images as RAW files, or just high res JPGs.
I know I can export my Aperture images to the desktop, then import them into iPhoto for a temporary fix, but that is such as hassle, especially since iPhoto and Aperture are supposed to work well together. Thanks for any suggestions!

Aperture creates preview images that contain all the adjustments you've made to the master image. These previews are what is shared with other apps such as iLife or if you drag and drop an image out of Aperture to another app or the Finder.
The size of the previews is controlled in Aperture Preferences. Open Aperture Preferences and click on the Previews icon at the top. In the bottom of this dialog there is a popup menu titled "Photo Preview". This is the setting that controls the size of the image Aperture shares with iPhoto. Change this setting to the size you want.
But wait, you're not done yet. Changing this setting does nothing until a new preview is created in Aperture. If you right click an image in Aperture there is a menu item near the bottom named "Update Preview". But what you really need is "Generate Preview". Right click the image and then hold down the option key and you'll see "Update Preview" change to "Generate Preview". Choose "Generate Preview" and a new preview will be created using the new size setting you made in Preferences. You need to do this for each and every image you wish to share at the larger size. You can select multiple images before selecting the "Generate Preview" command to speed things up.
Now when you share an image from Aperture to iPhoto the new larger file will be used. The advantage of smaller previews is your Aperture library will also be smaller but the trade off is what you get in other apps that are using your images.

  • Problems importing footage with Canon GL-2

I'm brand new to Mac & FCP, migrating from Casablanca after 8+ years.
I've had no luck using the "Capture Batch" option, so I've reverted to "Capture Now"...after reading lots of issues with the gl2. "Capture Now", though very time consuming, seems to work okay. I'll need to break the clips for editing. I'm thinking wedding recepiton (with lots of rec/pause). Using "Mark" then "DV Start/Stop Detect" works nicely, but when I trim the clips and put them in the timeline with a transition (such as page peel), the clip somehow continues past the end. For example, as the page is peeling back, the same piece of video is under the page...then it cuts to the next piece of footage, and continues the peel. FYI, all transitions do the same. I'm just using it as an example.
However, if I trim the pieces of video and put them in the timeline instead of using the above proceedure, the transitions work perfectly. BUT, unless I use the method above, I'll have to scrub through hours of footage. The Casablanca has an "auto split" option. I dump the footage, hit the button, and end up with a bunch of perfectly cut clips. FCP has to have something similar...
Thanks in advance for your input

  • Problem Importing photos from Canon Rebel XTi -- Iphoto '08

When I plug in USB cord to camera and MacBook, then turn on my Canon Rebel XTi, iPhoto opens up but will not read the CF card. The status light on the camera just blinks red as if it working on it but it never does show the photos in iPhoto08 and the camera doesn't show up on the sidebar either although it used to but doesn't anymore.
I know that my CF card is ok because when I use it in my Canon Powershot S400 it works fine, and I'm able to import photos fine.
    Help please?

Thanks, I'm fairly certain that WILL work since the card works with iPhoto in my other camera fine.
I don't have a card reader and I'd like to figure out how to fix the problem I have with my Rebel XTi. Any suggestions on that?

    HELPPPPPP please

I also use a pro level Sony Z5U with the slow mo ... it's sweet.  By the way, if you record a session over 10 to 12 minutes, most avchd cameras break up the MTS files into 2GB chunks or segments.  If you just bring them all in and try to stitch them back together you will end up with little gaps of around a half second where you put them together.  It disrupts an otherwise perfect video.  When you use clipwrap, you can select "Convert Multiple as Spanned" from its menu, and clipwrap will put them back together properly ... no gap.  Best wishes.
