Problem: Importing from DVD to imovie. The DVD mpeg 4 file will not import

I recently purchased ImTOO DVD Ripper Ultimate. I've successfully managed to rip some files to my desktop. But I'm now having an issue importing 1 particular mpeg 4 file to imovie for editing. I open imovie and locate the mpeg 4 file. Imovie window pops up: Optimizing Video - Processing Event. Nothing happens. Any advice?

First advice: let it run. it may take a while.
Second advice: Check for extra tracks like tween tracks, closed captioning tracks, chapter tracks. iMovie will not import files that have these. It is best to remove these using QuickTime Pro before editing.

  • TIP: What to do if the Recovered Photos File will not import into iPhoto...

Like many others in this forum, I just upgraded to iWork/iLife '06. When I installed iPhoto '06 it trashed my existing iPhoto Folder and placed all of my other existing photos (those not already imported previously into iPhoto) into a recovered photos file. I tried and tried and tried to import those "recovered photos" into iPhoto but it kept returning an error message on import "Unreadable file"
Finally I selected the "recovered files" then clicked on "Get Info" and found that the permissions were "locked" with a padlock icon. Clicking once on the padlock opened the permissions back to me the "owner" and the iPhoto allowed me to import all of those 425 "recovered photos". Whew! I hope this tip helps someone else out - I had to figure this out on my own...

The fact that you can use the Raws from your XSi is of no relevance.
The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Changing the Raw specification is one of the ways of upgrading the cameras.
IPhoto and Aperture support -  or don't -  the same cameras.

  • Error message:Won't open an iphoto library file & will not import new pix

I have deleted some files from iPhoto library in an effort to get more disk space. Trying to import from camera. Getting error message that says it cannot open File 2002/01/11. That file has been deleted. Clicked continue and message kept popping up. When download was "complete" it did not show up in last import folder or in main library folder. What am I doing wrong? At least I changed setting to keep photos on camera disk after import. I should warn you that I am not the brightest pea in the pod when it comes to new technology.

Thanks, I KNEW it was something I did. Never had any trouble before.
There is no way I can retrieve the deleted files. Emptied trash many times since then. Camera has been in repair shop for several weeks. And, as you already know, you are correct that I was deleting without iPhoto being launched.
I am using 2.0.1. It's not clever enough to update it's files? And what does that have to do with importing new pix? I have not gotten my 15 page list out to see if the photos I deleted are still in the albums.
In the future, should I delete from the main library? or the album? if I want them permanently gone (while in iPhoto, of course). It was so much easier to delete from a numerical list than to have view the photos, but I will not do that again if it is not good for my application.

  • Sony a7 mk2 ARW files will not import

I have a Sony RX100 and LR 5.7 imports the ARW files ok, However I've just bought an A7 Mk2 and Lightroom will not import the ARW files from that camera. I've downloaded CameraRaw 8 so I can convert the files first and then import into LR, but it seems strange that I cant import and convert from withing LR itself.

    Mac – http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5856
    Win – http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5857
Use the links above to upgrade to LR 5.7.1 or if you have a Creative Cloud account subscription login to your account and check if there is a button indicating "install" available next to Lightroom and proceed to click the button and install the update.

  • During Import if one record got failed so all records will not import?

    Hi All,
I want to clear on the following situation:
I have 10 records in a file and due to 2 records some structural reason import got failed.. So do MDIS will import 8 records and create a file with two records in error folder? or it will not import at all and create a file in the error folder?
How does it works?  basically I want to know if because of any reason 1-2 records in a 1000 records file got failed do entire file willnot import or only those errored records are not imported?
    THanks
    Rajeev

    Hi Rajeev,
have 10 records in a file and due to 2 records some structural reason import got failed.. So do MDIS will import 8 records and create a file with two records in error folder? or it will not import at all and create a file in the error folder?
This totally depends on your business scenario,
    1. If you want that if there are expection in even one file also all the records should not be imported than also it is possible
    2. If you want that if the exception is there than only the exception records should be sent to the Exception Folder and rest of the records should be imported by MDIS service, this process is also possible.
For implementing the second scenario you just have to set the property in Console -> Admin -> Ports
Block on Structural Exception = No
And if you want that the files should not be imported even if one file has exception then set
Block on Structural Exception = Yes
    Hope this would be helpful.

  • MPG files will not import into iMovie

I have some video I shot with a Sony Handycam that I want to import it into iMovie. When In iMovie I can see the MPV files but they are grayed out. I moved them from my work PC. They play fine on the PC. Have they been recoded in some way? When I try and open them in quicktime on the mac I get a message that says they are "not a movie file". I did transfer the files via a thumb drive, but I can't see that causing any problems. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance

I have some video I shot with a Sony Handycam that I want to import it into iMovie. When In iMovie I can see the MPV files but they are grayed out.
Finder level (i.e. "Import Movies...") files are not converted as part of the import process. Only files imported via the "Import from Camera..." are converted to iMovie '08 edit compatible compression formats. As "muxed" compression formats are not edit compatible in iMovie '08, they cannot be imported at the "Finder level" and so remain "grayed out." ("Muxed" formats contain blocks of audio and video data interspersed in a single stream to provide spatial synchronization while the QT engine is based on temporal synchronization of audio and video contained in separate, parallel "tracks" of data.) Your solution here is to either convert your files to DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264 files for "Finder" importation or "image" your files so they appear as if they are on a camcorder and let iMovie '08 import/convert the files for edit processing.
I moved them from my work PC. They play fine on the PC. Have they been recoded in some way?
MPEG-2 is a "playback" only format a far as QT is concerned and even then it requires the QT MPEG-2 Playback component ($20) be installed to work. AC3 audio is also not supported by the QT embedded structure and also requires an additional third-party component be installed.

  • The following NEF files were not imported because they could not be read.

Had to reinstall LR 3.3 and when importing NEF files from Nikon D90 the following message appeared,
"Some import operations were not performed.
The following files [NEF] were not imported because they could not be read"
Windows 7 user w/administrator rights.  Assume files are not corrupt.  Able to see thumbnails fine.

Move the files to a local drive, or use a card reader. Don't read directly from the camera if you are having problems.
Previews outside of Lightroom prove nothing, because most apps, including Explorer, just read the embedded preview made by the camera. Lightroom can be a good litmus test because it reads most of the image information and makes its own preview. During this process it is finding the file corrupt.  Lightroom does not write to proprietary files (in most cases) so if the file is failing to be read, then it is the file that is the problem, not Lightroom.
Make sure you inspect all the parts of the import chain to rule out a bad cable or something.

  • Importing From Excel file will not import assignments correctly where there are more than one assignment per task

I am trying to import an excel file ... see below.   It appears if you select both Tasks and Assignments tables it will not allow you to do this, says file is not in a project recognized format.  So I import Tasks tab first then run the
wizard again and import the assignments tab while selecting merge with project option.   This works with one exception:
If there are more than one assignment per task.  It does not merge in the 2nd assignment, only the first.
Is there a way to import a task with 2 or more assignments?
    Background
To figure out what the format for the file needed to be, I started with a MPP file and from project saved as Excel and selected the "Project Template" file.  Now I am trying to import that XLS to see how it works

    Andrew,
I did a quick test using your example although I didn't include the Predecessor or Outline Level fields to keep things a little simpler. I imported the Excel data into a new Project file with a single import of task and assignment data. It is very important
to set up the Excel Workbook correctly. On Sheet 1 I entered the task data (Name, Duration, Start). I did not include the ID or finish date as that is redundant - Project generates its own ID and will calculate the finish date based on the start date and duration.
On Sheet 2 I entered the assignment data basically just as you show it except I didn't include the Units.
    The data imported as expected.

  • Tif files will not import with the same filenames as the .nef files

When I work on a .nef file, say x.nef, Lightroom 1.0 will allow me to export the x.nef as x.tif to the same folder as the x.nef file resides, but obviously I need to import the x.tif file into the folder for it to show up in LR When I try to import the x.tif file into LR it shows up the the file list OK. When select it and try to import it I get a message telling me that I can't import it as the file x.nef already exists. I didn't select x.nef but x.tif. It will allow me to import it into a different folder, but that is not what I want to do. i need the keep the relevant net and tif files with the same name in the same folder.
Adobe tech. support suggested; reinstalling, trashing the LR preferences folder, making new databases. None of these solved the problem. In LR beta 4 I could save import tif files with the same file name the .nef with no problem, but not in LR1.0.
Using Win XP Pro SP2. Pentium P4 3.0 with 2gig ram.
Has anyone else had this problem. Any assistance appreciated.

I agree (Adobe) that first the concept that michael.nef and michael.tif and michael.jpg are different files needs to be changed.
A duplicate is a file that has the same filename and extension and the same content measurements.
Under the above concept or any concept, ignore duplicates should bring in any file to LR with the same name (contents and measurements) and different extensions.
I do edit in NEF (more now if I use LR instead of PSE5), do save to PSD, and do save to L/F JPG. If I had to layer in PSD, then I use that for printing, otherwise LR. I always have to make large jpgs to upload to web printing sites, and even small jpgs (now we have the same name and extension (but the measurements would be different) to email. Yes, we do keep copies of an image. I can see where I might want to have the edited .NEF and the PSD in the lib to view, cuz they may have different edits on them.

  • Raw files will not Import from Camera?

I have Elements 6 and Canon XSI. I took photos that I can view in my camera, when I attempted to import them into Elements 6 I'm getting the following messages: Not Imported- the files or folders seletect to import did not contain any supported file types.
also: The file is damaged or is a format that cannot be included in the organizer?
I have no idea what is happening or what to do?
    Thank you.

First off the problem you're having isn't being caused by the fact that you have a trial version of Aperture. The trial version is full featured, nothing is crippled.
You don;t state just what problems you are having when you try yo import into Aperture. Supplyinh that info might help figure out whats going on. Also I see by the product info on your post you're running Lion. Is that correct?

  • MOV. files will not import from external hard drive to iMac.

Do I have to convert MOV files somehow to be able to import them into an iMac from an external hard drive?
The files were moved from MacBookPro to hard drive. They play fine on external hard drive but won't import into iMac which says file format not recognised.

The file plays on my desktop and from the external hard drive, but I converted one file to an MP4 which then imported to iPhoto. Any recommendations on how to convert to MP4 files in bulk?

  • Open jpegs from Premier CS3 in PhotoshopCS3 says locked file will not save to jpeg

When I open a jpeg or tiff, from Premiere to photoshop, and make some modifications (like simply mode to grayscale) and try to save it back to the jpeg it refuses, saying the file is locked and I should go to Explorer, properties and unlock. However the files are not locked in the properties, so my only choice is to save as another file, re-load it itno Premiere, and put it on the timeline. I used to be able to edit directly from Premier to Photoshop, and save - on CS3!
I have no clue what I might have done to cause this, except it is a fresh install of Master Suite on a fresh install of Vista Ultimate.
    Any help appreciated.
    Jack

I also realize that my saying, "that is the way it works for me," doesn't help you, since it doesn't work for you. Did it EVER work for you? YES IT DID, THAT IS WHAT IS PUZZLING, AND IN CS3 ALSO.
    Couple of thoughts/questions:
Are you networked? YES, 2 WSIDE BY SIDE AND A THECUS RAID5 5 TERABYTE DATA BOS WHERE I KEEP MANY VIDEO AND STILLS. Are you logged in as an Administrator? I AM THE ONLY ADMINISTRATOR AND LOGGED IN AS SUCH. Are the Assets on internal (non-mapped) HDDs? IN FACT THE THECUS ACTS JUST LIKE ANOTHER INTERNAL HARD DRIVE, NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH IT BEFORE. I'M NOT MUCH OF A COMPUTER PERSON, SO NOT EVEN SURE WHAT MAPPED MEANS, BUT WHEN I WAS ABLE TO EDIT FROM PREMIERE BY SIMPLY CLICKING ON EDIT IN PHOTOSHOP, AND THE ASSETS WERE STORED ON THE THECUS, FIXES CAME BACK DIRECTLY TO PREMIERE. NOW THE SAY 'LOCKED' Any on external, or mapped-network HDDs? Are the Assets coming off of some media like CD, or DVD, and not first being transferred to internal HDDs? ALL ASSETS ARE ON INTERNAL DRIVES. I'VE TRANSFERRED SOME MEDIA TO THE SCRATCH DISC INTERNAL DRIVE AND GET THE SAME RESULT. If they originate FROM CD/DVD, are you making sure that they are not listed as Read Only, after copying? ALL I HAVE CHECKED HAVE NO CHECK ON READ ONLY. NONE ARE RECENTLY BROUGHT IN, I HAVE NEARLY 30,000 PHOTOS SEVERAL TERABYTES OF VIDEO. Windows likes to flag them that way, and it can bite you later. Anyone else on your network using these Assets? Are you using them in AE, AI, InDesign, etc., while also using them in Premiere/PS? I ONLY HAVE PREMIERE AND PHOTOSHOP OPEN, I EVEN CLOSED DOWN BRIDGE. Last, do you have Indexing turned on for any of your HDDs, as Windows loves to "lock" files, while it does its indexing. I turn this off for ALL HDDs, especially for my large externals. (Sometimes, when I move the external HDDs from workstation to workstation, XP will turn Indexing back on, and I have to disable this - happens about 10% of the time.) I HAVE RECENTLY INSTALLED COPERNIC TO DO SEARCHING, VISTA IS NOT FINDING THINGS WELL ENOUGH, IT MIGHT BE THE INDEXING, I'LL TRY THAT WHEN I GET BACK THIS AFTERNOON. THANKS FOR THE TIPS AND 20 QUESTIONS. THIS IS THE KIND OF HELP THAT THEY MEAN ABOUT RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS, THANKS
    AND PARDON THE CAPS
    JACK
"Locking" is usually tied into permissions. That's why I ask about the networking aspects.
Wish I had a quick fix for you.

  • .aep files will not import with AE CS6

Ok, I'm doing something unique here maybe. I'm trying to Network Render a project because it takes about 8 hours or so to render in Premiere. My workflow consist of a number of dymanically linked AE files that make up some titles, info headers, and some green screen comps. This is all cut beatifully on the Premiere Pro timeline and audio is edited nicely in Audition. What I'd like to do is import the Premiere Pro project back into After Effects after the final cut and use the AE renderer to distribute. The problem I run itno is the .aep files I used in premiere show up as unlinked footage. Further more trying to relink the file leads the ,aep files to be represented by the importer as "8o   u" or some crap like that. Can .aep files not be directly represented in a workflow like this?

If you have a Premiere Pro project that contains linked AE files as source footage then AE will have to open up in the background to run and render those files. Also, all linked Comps in AE will have to be in the same AE project.
If you open up the Premiere Pro project in AE then what do you think will happen to the linked files? AE will have to open them up and render them so that they can be rendered in AE.... See the problem.
Dynamic Link and AE as a comp are only useful in PPro if you're finishing your project in PPro. If it were my project as soon as the edit was close to final I would have rendered all of the dynamic linked files and bring the footage into PPro. Now you'll have no problem in AE doing the final color grading.
Most of my long form projects that require a final color grade are rendered from PPro or FCP or Avid to a production codec and then the footage is brought into AE for the final color grade if I need things like Colorista. Other wise the final color grade is done in Speed Grade or the entire sequence is sent out for color grading by boxing up a bunch of hard drives and bringing the entire project into a grading studio.

  • WAV file will not import/Error

While trying to import a file from a company that records our
call center calls, I am getting the following error: "Unable to
decode and import the selected WAV/MP3 file."
Are there anythings I should look out for, or any way I
should be prepping the Wave File?

    Welcome to our community, Ravenspoe
    Never More!
Okay, so give this a try. Captivate expects .WAV files to be
    in PCM format.
    Click Start > Run...
Type sndrec32 into the field and press Enter
This should open the Windows Sound Recorder
Within Sound Recorder, click File > Open... and open the
    suspect .WAV file
Now click File > Save As...
    Click the Change... button
    Click the OK button
    Click the Save button
    Close Windows Sound Recorder
Now try importing the WAV into Captivate and see if it
imports without causing Captivate to squabble or gag.
    Cheers... Rick
