Problem importing from scanner into Photoshop Elements

I use Photoshop Elements 5 on a PC & am suddenly no loger able to import from my scanner (Canon MP990) & get the message: 'Could not complete the import because of a problem with the acquisition interface'.
If I try scanning directly from the scanner, I get the message: 'Scanner is not available while in use by another application or user' . I may have abandoned a previous scan at preview stage without cancelling, but it doesn't show up anywhere. I don't know whether this is a Photoshop problem or a scanner problem. My troubleshooting skills are rudimentary at best - I have tried disconnecting/connecting the scanner & shutting down the PC - any ideas ?

First of all, are you sure that you want to abandon iphoto for the organizer? You don't want to use both--you will have to choose eventually. If you don't have experience with Organizer on a mac, I would strongly suggest exporting a few photos from iphoto, putting them where you want to keep them and using File>Get Photos>From Files and Folders to create a test catalog  to use for evaluation while you make up your mind.

New to Photoshop Elements 12.How do I import Aperture Library into Photoshop Elements 12?

You would really need to export copies from the Aperture database, to folders on your hard drive and then import them into Organizer.
Or continue with Aperture (don’t use Organizer) and simply send photos to the Elements Editing app as required.

  • From Scanner into Photoshop into iPhoto problem

I have scanned an old picture using my Epson scanner into Photoshop for enhancement, but I can't figure out how to import it into my iPhoto library.
I have tried the "add to library" in iPhoto, but no luck. What I'm I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Lolo

    Hi Lolo,
Save the image from Photoshop to the desktop. Open iPhoto and drag the image into the open iPhoto viewing Window. You cannot save an image into the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder. If you did, drag it out of the folder and use iPhoto to import the image or drag the image into an open iPhoto viewing window. More info for you:
--First thing to know and remember is this...Do not drag any images, folder of images into the iPhoto Library in the Finder. Images have to be imported into iPhoto within the application. Do not scan images and save them into the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder. Save them to another location such as the Pictures folder or even the desktop. You can then import them into iPhoto.
--All images that you import are sown in the library view. You can choose how you want to view, by rolls, by date, by rating, etc. When you put images in an Album, slideshow, book, etc, you are actually just putting pointers to those images in the library. You are not adding more images. If you delete an image from the Album it will still be in the library. If you delete an image from the library it is deleted from iPhoto's database and your hard drive (unless you have it backed up somewhere else)
--You have a folder of images on your hard drive and want to import them into iPhoto. Drag the folder of images into an open iPhoto Library window and the folder of photos will be copied into the library, resulting in a new roll with the name of the folder. You now have two copies of those photos, the ones in iPhoto's database and the ones on your desktop. You can keep the ones on your desktop that you just imported as backup or you can delete that folder.
-- you scan a picture/pictures and save it in a folder. You cannot scan directly into iPhoto or the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder.
You want all your photos in iPhoto so you import them into iPhoto.
Now you have two copies of that picture/pictures, so you can delete the originals that were in the scanned folder and keep the one/ones that were imported into iPhoto.
-- You download pictures from your camera into iPhoto.
There is now one copy of each of the pictures.
You want to change something about a picture you imported, such as
cropping it or changing the size, or changing the orientation.
Once you do that to a picture, you now have two copies of the picture
in iPhoto, the original and the edited one. The edited one will be in the library organize view. The original is packed away in an Original folder in your iPhoto Library folder under the date of the roll. You can always revert to the original by control clicking on the photo and choose "revert to orginal" You will not have this choice if you used iPhoto Diet to get rid of the Originals.
(a quick note on cropping within iPhoto...when you are in edit mode, you automatically will be in the crop mode with cross hairs to highlight the crop area. To finish cropping you must click the crop button and then go back to library view and your cropped picture will be there.
3.You want to use Photoshop or another graphic program to edit a picture in your iPhoto library.
You can open up prefs for iPhoto and choose "when double clicking on
photo ..do" choose "other" and select Photoshop. Now you can edit all
pictures in your iPhoto library in PhotoShop by double clicking. If you save the photo with the same name and as a flattened file it will be saved right into iPhoto and you will see the changes. If you don't want to save it into iPhoto then do a "save as" and save to the desktop. You will then have the original photo still in iPhoto and your new edited photo on the desktop.
Or, with iPhoto open, you can drag a picture from the library window
to your desktop (you see a + sign on the pic you are dragging). You now
have two of the same picture, one in the iPhoto library and one on your desktop. You can open up the one on your desktop in any graphic program and work on it. The one in iPhoto stays the same. You can also share/export the picture/pictures to your desktop or folder to work on them or do batch processing, etc. You will still have the originals in your iPhoto Library.
Or, you can open up the ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/folders and option drag any
picture out of the folder to your desktop. Notice that you will see a plus sign while dragging the photo. This is copying the file to your desktop
I would advise anyone not to do this as they might forget to use the option key and drag the photo out. Next time you open iPhoto the photo will be missing.
Two Apple kbs for you to read
Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto library folder
    About the iPhoto Library folder
Don't forget that in Library view you can Control click on any picture and get a contextual menu with many options. One is to revert to original.

  • Importing from Illustrator into Photoshop

    Hello
I am struggling to learn Creative Suite CS4, and it is very hard.
Can anyone help me with the following problem.
I have made some line art in Illustrator CS4 using a wacom pen and the pencil tool. it has about 8 layers.
I have brought the artwork into Photoshop CS4 so that I can color it in Photoshop. I find that it has been merged into just one layer in Photoshop.
Is this what is supposed to happen? I expected the drawing to still have all the layers intact.
can anyone tell me how to move stuff from Illustrator into Photoshop and keep the layers structure?
    Thanks for any advice.

How did you bring the art into Photoshop?
Try File > Export > PSD in Illustrator and tick the "Write Layers" option in teh second dialog window.
Be aware though... you can't maintain layers and have traditional smart objects at the same time.
If you want smart objects and layers, you need to select an AI layer, copy. Move to PS, create a new layer, paste. Then repeat for each AI layer. And finally realign all the layers in PS so they are positioned correctly.

  • Import slides from scanner for Photoshop Elements 13

How do I import slides from my Epson scanner. I don't get the option of what type, photo, negative or slide to import like I did on a previous Photoshop Elements. I am using Elements 13 now. I would appreciate the help.
    Thanks, Pat

And to be clear, you have to click where it says Chat on the screenshot I posted, above, then it should bring up a page that has an area that looks like what is below, where you click and type into the red box.
If, after clicking on the Chat area, your browser isn't showing you a webpage with a red box where you can type up to 500 characters, then try a different browser, and/or temporarily disable any internet-security software you have in case it is blocking the communications. Chat does work but it does take a while for someone to respond, usually.

  • HT202786 how do I import a photo into Photoshop elements from Photos

I am using Photoshop Elements with templates and photo editing and it no longer gives me the option in preferences to export to Elements in photo like there was in iPhoto.  Any ideas on what to do

    Cathy,
Your question is not remotely a Color Management issue, so this is the wrong forum  Consider posting in the InDesign or Ps Elements forum.
It looks like you need help understanding some very elementary application-specific basics.

  • Importing from iPhoto into Photshop Elements

I have never had a problem importing images from my iPhoto library into Adobe Photoshop Elements until I installed iLife 08. Now the iPhoto library is greyed out and I can not access my images. I find the image editing facilities of iPhoto good but as a textile artist I have specific needs of Photoshop which straight iPhoto editing does not do. anyone able to help please?

Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Issue importing a file into photoshop elements 11

I am new to Photoshop Elements 11. I am just playing around with it right now to get used to it since I've never worked with the program before. I am importing files from iphoto and it is working fine except for one thing. I imported a group of photos and while I was playing around in Elements (basically to get used to naming folders/albums/moving things around/etc) I deleted the folder I had imported, more or less to see what happens, and now when I try to import the same file into Elements again, it tells me that "the file selected to import did not contain supported file types or the files are already in this catalog." I cannot find these pictures anywhere within my catalog, so why will it not let me import them a second time? I have looked all over online for an answer to this and have come up empty handed. If someone knows how I can get this group of pictures into Elements, please let me know! I'd like to start practicing with the editing options but need these pictures in the program first. (I did also create an album from the file I imported, again to practice moving things around within Elements, and when I deleted the Folder the Album went away too.) I am still able to import other files from iphoto, it is just that this one particular file will not transfer....is it because I deleted it and now it somehow does not recognize the file??

    Welcome to the forum.
As you have reposted to the Photoshop Elements Forum, where you will get quick and expert help, I will Lock this thread, and all discussion can take place in the Ps Elements Forum.
    Good luck,

  • How can i import my scanner into Photoshop CS5?

    Hi.
I have just installed Photoshop CS5 for Windows. I went to import my scanner (Epson Lide 500F) and it's not showing up.
I have reinstalled it, but it still doesn't show up.
Do i need to save it into a particular PS file? At the moment it's going into the Programmes file.
    Thank you

Photoshop CS5 doesn't ship with a TWAIN scanner interface installed, because it sometimes causes problems due to buggy drivers.  It does have a WIA scanner capability; that your scanner does not show up may mean that the drivers for that particular model are not being actively updated by the manufacturer of the scanner.
You can install the optional Twain plug-in into Photoshop CS5 32 bit only, which may get you the functionality you need:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405072.html
Failing all of the above, you may need to get a new scanner.  I have had to buy three myself over the history of Photoshop releases since the '90s simply because of cessation of support.  It is the way it is.
    Hope this helps.

  • Importing ACDSee database into Photoshop Elements 12?

I use ACDSee Pro for my 15,000+ collection. In ACDSEE, all photos include captions and tags. Would like to switch to Photoshop Elements 12 but must take ACDSee's database with me, it took 5 years to build it!
When I catalog a directory into Elements 12, captions and tags are not copied over, even though such data is 'embedded' (an ACDSee phrase).
How can I import my ACDsee database into Elements 12??
Would very much appreciate any help and great ideas.
    Ben Marselis

Have you tried writing the ACDSEE metadata into the image files and see what they then look like in PSE?
    http://files.acdsystems.com/english/support/acdseepro/4/help/Content/1Topics/3_Manage_mode /Organizing/IDDH_SET_EXIF.htm
Adding  Metadata to files and using Presets
You can add information to your images using IPTC and ACDSee Metadata. IPTC information is automatically embedded into your image, while ACDSee Metadata can be embedded into your file, or stored in the database. You can add this information to one or multiple files at a time. You can also save frequently used metadata values as a preset, allowing you to quickly input this information without having to rewrite it.

  • Can't import CR2 images into PHotoshop Elements 9

Please could someone help me with importing CR images from my Canon S120 camera...it just says doesn't recognise file type?

You need camera raw 8.3 for your camera. It is only compatible with PSE12 or PSE13. Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.3
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.3
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Problem importing .mov file into Photoshop CS6

I recently bought a canon 600D and I am trying to edit a 1080p video in photoshop CS6, however whenever it won't let me import the video. When I try to open it via File>open, it tells me 'Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file.' and when I try to drag and drop it it tells me 'Could not place the document ‘MVI_0710.MOV’ because no parser or file format can open the file.'
I'm not a professional at all so I could be missing something very basic! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What system are you on? Which PS version? 32bit or 64 bit? Sounds like the required qtserver/ dynamiclink stuff is not running and you are using the 64bit version.
