Problem importing GIF sequence

I am unable to import a carefully numbered GIF sequence into AE. When I try to drag the folder containing the numbered GIF sequence into the project window, AE says "After Effects error: file cannot be imported -- files of type "" cannot be used as sequences. Importing using the import command doesn't work either, giving me the option to import not as a sequence, only as footage. And it doesn't consolidate the 32 GIFS, it just lays them up in the project window as individual GIF files. How might I correct this problem?
Gravic

Gravic:
After Effects handles GIF files through a Quicktime importer. Because of this, the ability to import as sequence is not available as it is for other file formats. Also, the Quicktime importer sees GIF files as "movies" and tries to preserve the existiing animation frames in a given GIF file, rather than import numbered GIFs as sequences.
You can use Photoshop's batch processor (File > Automate > Batch) or a number of other utilities to quickly convert your GIF files to PNG or any other format you may want.
Note that GIFs work in indexed color mode, with a palette of up to 256 colors. If you consider that for many AE users a range of 16.7 million of colors as normally used in 8 bit per channel processing is not enough and choose to use billions or trillions of colors, then you can see why bringing GIFs is a convenient feature but hardly top priority. Remember that in After Effects, the source files don't have any relationship with how the output file is produced. You could export a GIF animation regardless of the source format you used.

  • Problems importing PNG sequence

So I believe I have successfully accomplished importing PNG
sequences before more than once. However, this time around, I'm
losing my mind. I just successfully rendered a PNG sequence out of
Adobe After Effects CS3, roughly 130 images, and I'm attempting to
import all of them as a sequence to FlashCS3. However, when I do
this, every image is duplicated with a graphic, and the graphics
are about 50x larger than the original PNG size. I cannot figure
out what I am doing wrong, I've never come across this problem. If
anyone has any advice, please let me know; it will be greatly
    appreciated.
I also wanted to know how to move the position of images or
movie clips on multiple key frames at one time. If that makes
sense. As this PNG sequence for example.... If I don't like the
position of the sequence, I have to manually click each key frame,
and move the selected position... any help.
    Thank you

your first problem here is likely that the images you've
rendered are not set to 72dpi, standard screen resolution. Flash
will automatically render the image at a size related to 72, eg. if
your images are higher res they will be shown larger to compensate.
the second issue can be resolved by using the 'edit multiple
frames' button and selecting all items in the timeline you wish to
move, including multiple layers and frames. to do so, turn on
'onion skinning' place the playhead in the first frame you wish to
move, extend the handle to the last frame you wish to move - then
turn on the edit multiple frames button (third option in the
timeline toolbar) - then select all of the layers and frames you
wish to move in the timeline - now all the items on the stage
should be shown as selected, you can now click and drag the items
all together or use the arrow keys to nudge the images to a new
    position.

  • Problems importing PNG Sequences as Footage

Using AfterEffects CS6 with the latest patch (11.0.1).. We have several PNG frame sequences (output from 3dsMax & Mental Ray) that we usually load into AfterEffects for manipulation and rendering.  With the files on our network share, we are unable to import them as sequences (the options at the bottom of the Open File dialog are all greyed out).  We can open individual frames just fine, and we can open these sequences as Some users, but not all.  All users have all permissions to the files and folders.
Is there some additional hidden file or special attribute that CS6 is keying on to enable/disable that open?

    Ok.. we figured it out..
It only works if "Hide extensions for known file types" is checked... IF we can see file extensions, it doesn't work.

  • Problem Importing Sequence and Changing Speed

Got a good one.  I imported 2 sequences into a new project, but when I try to change the speed to anything over 100%, the end of the clip is black.  If I try cutting this part out, what happens is the black screen increases, chopping off more of the clip/sequence!!!  I've tried everything, and I know it has to do with the sequence being imported, but is there a workaround for this??  I've even tried putting a title/image in another video track, and same thing happens - more black screen, that cuts off even more of the clip.  Help please!!

    4) clicking on "speed/duration", and changing the speed to, let's say "125%",
Ok, back to my question of post 1.  Where exactly are you doing this?  To the individual clips, or to the nested sequence?
I suspect the former, given the results.  And this is perfectly normal.  When you speed up the footage, it takes less time and creates a shorter sequence, but the nest doesn't automatically shrink to compensate, so the last bit of it will be black.  It's no different than if you were to remove a couple of clips from the original sequence.  All you need do is trim the nested sequence back to the last frame of footage.
Or you could make the speed changes first and then nest it afterwards.  Then there would be no black.  (And this is what you were seeing when you went back to the first project and changed it there.  The end result was that the speed changed before you nested.  The black only shows up when you shorten the original after nesting.)
So, bottom line, everything is working normally.  You were just unaware of how it worked.

  • Imported image sequence in PP CC 2014 causes animated layers to flicker

I have a project which has a primary layer formed of imported JPGs that are in sequence. These are shots from a time lapse and are sequentially named and imported without issue into Premier Pro. I then have a secondary layer with a simple After Effects composition that comprises a slow fade and animation of some title text. The problem I have is that during playback in PP (or once rendered) the animation of the text in the AA layer flickers. Watching it frame by frame in the preview window it is slowly fading in but each alternate frame it's opacity seems to go back one frame before advancing.
Now I can completely fix this by exporting the image sequence clip in my bin to a video file. If I then replace the image sequence with a video made using exactly the same images it works fine and the animation is perfectly smooth. My question is why does PP not treat the imported image sequence the same as a video with its interaction with other layers?

    Hi there.
Looking at the footage, you are exporting at 24P. There are books written on 24P and how to shoot (or edit) for it. What I see as a possible mistake.
You are moving the photo too fast across the screen. That could be the same as panning too fast in 24P. Same result. The video clips are moving much slower and don't show the staggering.
    Give it a try.

  • Problems importing AVCHD clips from Panasonic GF1

I'm having problems importing clips from my new Panasonic Gf1. FCE (4.0.1) sees the device ok, and selecting and previewing the clips in the log and transfer window works fine, but once the clips are in FCE (converted to AIC) they play fast in the viewer or when placed in the sequence. Strange, because they play fine in the preview window before importing. Tried this in iMovie 08 and get the same effect.
I'm can convert them Toast to AIC and they work fine when imported to FCE but this is not my preferred workflow.

I tried using Toast Titanium 10 for conversion as suggested but there was a slight issue with synch of video and audio. So I downloaded and bought Voltaic HD as suggested elsewhere and the AVCHD files of the Panasonic GF-1 are now playing in Final Cut Express 4 without issues - I am editing with no problem. Given that I can use the Log&Transfer Window (Final Cut 4) for my Olympus EP1 and my Panasonic HD video cam, it's odd that the files of the Panasonic GF-1 don't work in Final Cut (yet), but at least I am back editing. Voltaic HD was $35, a doable expense.... it does work flawless (so far).

  • Importing a sequence of photos

Hi, I am sure this is a newbie problem, but I am a newbie.
How can i import over 700 photos into the stage, automatically
creating a new frame for each photo so they play in sequence. I
need this for a stop frame animation project. I have done some
research and apparantly flash does this automatically if I open a
new doc, new keyframe, highlight it, file > import > import
to stage, then select my photo sequence, which is numbered 1 - 734.
It is then supposed to recognise the sequence and do it all for me.
Not only is it not doing this it is also resizing my photos.
    Help!!

If your sequence is properly numbered then when you import
    the first image
Flash will say something like ' sequence detected - should I
    import the
sequence or just this image?' If it's resizing anything on
    import then it's
probably because the images are not 72dpi.

  • Im having problems importing prores files at correct frame rate

im having problems importing prores files at correct frame rate. they have been converted to prores at 25fps but on importing they appear in fcp as 30fps. any help would be appreciated.

I don't know anything about Wondershare. But it seems something may have got messed up in the conversion. Or maybe there is an identifier on the converted clip that has FCP confused and it really is 25 fps.
To begin, your sequence settings don't match your clips. You want a Pro Res sequence. Let FCP set this automatically by dragging a Pro Res to an empty sequence and when gives you a message asking whether you want the sequence to match the clips, click yes. Then hit command 0 again and see whether the frame rate is set at 30 or 25.
If it really is 30, then it will need to be converted and re-imported. It can be done in Compressor or in Cinema Tools. If you have used Cinema Tools before, great. Of not, I'll defer to others because it's been a while and I don't want to mess you up.
    Good luck.

  • Import Image Sequence not importing all images

I have a sequence of 99 JPG images that I am trying to import into Premiere Pro. These images were created by an export from Lightroom.
When I perform the import starting at the first image, only 35 images are imported.
If I import the sequence starting at the 34th image, only 2 images are imported.
If I import the sequence starting at the 35th image, only 1 image is imported (and it is imported as an image file it appears).
If I import the sequence starting at the 36th image, the remaining images are imported.
I have tried a number of different settings for the export from lightroom, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. For example, if I export as TIFF I see the exact same problem. If I export as JPG using a smaller image size I see the exact same problem.
I have tried "Replace Footage..." to no effect.
When I inspect the image files using an image view there appear to be no issues with the files. File sizes are consistent and not inordinantly large (~5MB).
The filenames are all properly numbered as expected by Premiere Pro.
I have done this successfully dozens of times before this problem arose, and I have done it successfully a number of times since the problem arose. The problem appears to happen only with this particular set of images.
I can work around the problem by importing the images as two separate imports (one starting at the first image and a second starting at the 36th image) and putting them both in a single sequence. In fact, this spliced sequence looks as expected with no missing frames or anything else untoward that I can see.
I've poked around with this for a couple days, and cannot discern any other factors that may be causing this.
Does anybody have any idea what might be going on?

I checked the filenames again and they're properly sequenced with no extra or missing spaces or anything else that doesn't follow the pattern of the first 34 images. In fact, I took a screenshot of this, and in doing so I figured out what the problem is.
Here's a screenshot of the directory with all the images.
As I was reviewing this screenshot, I noticed that the "Date" column goes over midnight. Images 0001-0034 all took place before midnight, and images 0035-0099 took place after midnight.
This column shows the capture time of the images, coming from the camera and through the export from Lightroom. This is different from the creation date of the exported file, which is shown in the "Date modified" column (cropped out of screenshot). In other words, you can see that I took the pictures on February 25 and 26, but exported them on March 1.
To verify that this might be the problem I used "Edit Capture Time..." in Lightroom to shift all the images an hour earlier. This means that there is no longer a date change in the sequence as they all have capture times before midnight. I then exported the images from Lightroom again, and imported them into Premiere Pro.
When I do this, all the images are imported into Lightroom successfully.
I realize this is only one data point, but it sounds like Premiere Pro is maybe using the capture time as part of its sequencing heuristics, and for some reason it isn't handling a date change properly. Or maybe something else is afoot.
    What do you think?

  • AE crashing when trying to import Premiere sequence.

    Hi There,
I am having a problem importing a Premiere Pro sequence in After Effects (I am using CS5.5 with the latest upgrades on a Windows 7 PC).
Basically when i try to import, i can choose my Premiere file with no problems, and i get to the menu where it asks which sequences i want to import.
No matter which sequences i choose (All, Individual, with or without sound), once i click on OK, the button freezes and a few seconds later the screen whitenes and it says After Effects is not responding and i get a box come up which tells me this and asks me if i want to shut AE down.
Does anyone know what casues this?

  • Imported image sequences get cut off half-way through

Hi there! I'm trying to import an image sequence (jpeg) into Premiere Pro CS4 4.2.1 and having trouble getting the clip to play in entirety. My sequence is 24 fps and the footage I'm bringing in is a 5-second piece interpreted at 12 fps. (It was shot at 12 fps via Dragonframe software, on 1's). Unfortunately, the clip gets cut off half-way through. If I play it at 24 fps it's all there but much too short of course, and the wrong speed. If I play it back at 12 fps, only the first half or so of it shows up. All the files are numbered correctly, so there shouldn't be a cut-off. I feel like this might be some obvious problem, but google-and-forum searches have yielded nary a result. Anyone run into this or be able to tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Background info: I'm on a Dell Inspiron 1525, Windows Vista, 32-bit operating system, using Premiere Pro CS4 4.2.1, importing jpegs as an image sequence/numbered stills. Not running any other software, codecs, playback engines etc. to my knowledge.
    Many thanks!

    Thanks, John and Jim.
I went in to change the Indeterminate Media Timebase to 12, but there's no such number option in CS4. The lowest is 23.9-something, and 24 is the next one up. After bringing the sequence in and playing it in the little preview box in the upper left-hand corner, everything's there, but bringing it into the time-line cuts it off. Is this a glitch? Any other known ways around it? Worst comes to worst I guess would be importing the sequence in two halves.

  • Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 problems importing 12fps movies

I open an Image Sequence in QuickTime Pro 7 and save it as a movie at 12 fps.
I import that movie into Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 in a sequence with timebase of 24fps.
Problem : the first frame of the movie appears only on 1 frame instead of 2, and the last frame appears on 3 frames instead of 2.
    Anyone else seeing this problem?
My work around is to make a 1 frame Freeze Frame of the first frame and add it at the head of the movie and then delete the third copy of the final frame. It's a tiresome work around though because I'm making animated films and have hundreds of these clips to bring in to Final Cut.

Sharon, very sorry, I apparently have mislead you. Still sequences I do in Motion. There may be other ways of grabbing still sequences. The exported movie relies on frame rate of the composition.
    After Effects does it, too.
after effects help entry: Change the frame rate of a sequence
When you import a sequence of still images, it assumes the frame rate specified by the Sequence Footage preference in the Import category. The default rate is 30 frames per second (fps). You can change the frame rate after importing by reinterpreting the footage item:
Select the sequence in the Project panel, choose File > Interpret Footage > Main, and then enter a new value for Assume This Frame Rate.

  • AE crash after importing premiere sequence with trimmed r3ds. (Bug report)

(all tested in premiere and AE cs6, up to date from creative cloud) Hello, I have RED footage raw as r3ds, that I have edited in premiere. If I try to send that to after effects in premiere, or if I try to import the sequence directly through AE, The machine continually locks up over and over again until I close out the application. I have figured out potentially what is wrong and I have figured out an annoying work around.
I believe what the problem is, is that after effects is having a hard time reading the renamed and trimmed r3d clip. Point being, if I hit caps lock disabling preview, I can right click on the RED footage that was imported from premiere, and reveal in explorer (or finder for Mac, and yes, I have tested this on both OS) Then drag the original footage back into after effects, and then alt drag and replace the footage that is trimmed in the AE sequence, and lastly delete the premiere versions of the RED clips, then I can use it just fine. No more lagging, all is well.
This is a huge pain in the butt...Can this bug PLEASE be looked into for AE CC or Premiere CC whichever is causing the problem. It is very useful to cut in premiere and keylight/ special effects in AE. But this workaround is quite a time saver.
Can anyone else confirm this issue? I hgave confirmed it on a mac and a PC of cs6.
And if anyone has an easier workaround, that would also be appreciated, although, this was the quickest work around I could come up with.
    Thanks Adobe! Love your tools!

I have found another fix, which is much easier! But yes this is still broken and must be fixed. After you import the RED footage from the preiere file, with caps lock on, right click on the red footage and go to interpret footage> Main. At the bottome of the window that pops up, click more options, which should bring up the RED R3D Source settings. This is blank, with no video attatched...all you do is click reload from RMD, and the problem is solved.
This is still a massive pain, Can anyone from adobe confirm this problem, and confirm this work around?

  • Problem with Gif image

Having a problem with gif image not showing up. It will show up in netscape6.2, but not in IE 5.0. Both are using the java 1.4 plugin. They are basic buttons (zoom in, zoom out, etc) and they actions work, just the icons aren't showing. Any help would be great! Below is a snip of code:

    Thanks again for any help!

I used to do a lot of work in this sort of thing. After a while we were able to convince our bosses to use generated HTML (JSPs, etc.), so the problem moved to porting JavaScript to different platforms! (Platforms in this context means the different browser/OS combinations, etc.).
The only two things I can recommend are:
    - complete control over you code. You will have to fix it! (Tried you apps on a Mac yet?)
    - assume a minimal install. Don't assume users are going to have any fancy tools installed on their PC, unless you are developing an Intranet app, where you know the spec of the machines that are going to be using it.
As regarding getting IE to use a relative address, I don't think you are going to have any luck their, I'm afraid! (Although I am curious. It has been some time, but I though it did use relative addresses. Are you absolutely sure about this, did you check this out with System.outs and that?
