Problem Importing Graphics

When I import an image, whether it's an illustrator,
photoshop, jpg, or gif file, the quality of the image is poor. The
text can't be read. How do I get a clear graphic image imported
into Flash without losing the quality of the text in the image? If
I make the image larger, the text looks good. But if make the image
smaller (which is what I need to do for this project) the text
becomes unreadable.
Any thoughts?

Yes, I believe I am importing a file into the flash
aurthoring environment although I am not entirely sure as I am new
to flash. I am working with a previously created flash file and the
graphics that where used in it needed corrections. When I import
the corrected graphic/image (image/graphic was created in
Illustrator) I lose the quality of the text that was used in that
graphic/image especially when it is scaled to a smaller size. I
have tried bringing the image into photoshop and resizing, also, I
have tried to bring in the image in as a .gif and a .jpeg files and
still the quality of the text is poor. I am uncertian if I am doing
something wrong with I resize the image. I have tried resizing it
in Illustrator, and Photoshop. If I don't resize the image and
bring it in as it's actual image size, the quality of the text does
not get lost and is readable.

  • Width Wrong for Imported Graphics in Frame 9

Has anyone else had issues with Framemaker detecting the wrong width when importing graphics?  As an example, when I import a JPG of a button that should be 21 x 21 pixels, Framemaker displays the width as 24px and the height as 21px.  This results in a smashed graphic.  If I adjust the dimensions of the graphic in FrameMaker to the correct dimensions, then print the PDF, the right border of the image is off.
I have tried capturing the graphic a variety of different ways, and I always experience the same results.  I can import the graphic into Captivate or Word and the sizing is correct.  Any ideas?  Thanks!
I am using FrameMaker version 9.0p237 as part of the Technical Communication Suite 2.

I just tested this with a sample file at the 21x21 dimensions, and you are absolutely correct. FM9 screws up the dimensions (and default dpi resolution) for PNG and GIF files. I also tried BMP and TIF equivalents and these were ok. FM8 does not have this problem, so it looks like Adobe played with the PNG and GIF filters a bit (perhaps to get rid of all of the extra colours coming in).
For a JPG or PNG import of a 21x21 at 96dpi, FM9 seems to think that it is 24x21 at 110dpi. FM8 gets it right.
For a GIF import of the same, FM9 thinks it is 22x21 at 75dpi. FM8 got it right.
What's also strange is that if the dimensions are both even, e.g. 20x20 at 96dpi, then FM9 gets it right for the JPG, PNG and GIF. However, if the *first* dimension is odd, e.g. 21x20 it gets it wrong again as before, but if the second dimesion is odd, e.g. 20x21, the it gets it right. VERY WIERD!
    It's definitely a BUG.
I would suggest that you either use BMP or TIF for now OR try to increase your icons by 1 pixel to make them an even size, e.g. 22x22.
I'd also recommend that you not use JPG for these, but rather GIF or PNG, because you may generate some unwanted artifacts in the JPG due to the lossy compression used.

  • Strange Facet of Imported Graphic: ò\e2

    Hello Framers,
I am using Frame 7.1 and have just taken over a project from a colleague who is sometimes, er, careless with best practices.
So I MIF-washed all files (replacing all OLE2 graphics) and tried to save as RTF. Frame crashed. I looked at the Object properties of some imported graphics and found this:
A minute later I looked again at the same properties again and the Facet was "DIB" -- in other words normal.
This is the same graphic, same command (!go). In between I had looked at some other graphics and seen another with the strange facet. Because it is intermittent it was hard to get such a pair of grabs.
I looked in the MIF and could find nothing unusual (but I am by no means a MIF-guru).
Has anyone else seen such strange facets? Or have any ideas? As a workaround I shall try re-importing all graphics and hoping that the problem does not come back.
    --- Derek

    Thanks Sheila and Art,
Since this is an intermittent problem it's hard to investigate. I entirely agree about BMPs and embedding, but I inherited this project and that's how it is.
I do the Save As RTF because my SME is enamoured of Word; I convert the RTF into DOC and he can then edit in his favourite tool. With Track Changes I can then see what needs to be done in the Framemaker source.
I have Windows XP SP3 running with 2GB RAM so I don't think I am hitting a resource limit.
Before posting I had extracted all embedded graphics and included them as PNGs by Reference. But Save As RTF still crashed on one chapter; it was while investigating the graphics in that chapter that I stumbled on the strange facet problem.
I'm 99% certain that the Save As RTF crash is related to the  graphics; if I delete all graphics the save goes OK. I cannot say for sure that it's related to the facets but an intermittent crash related to an intermittent strange facet sounds mighty suspicious.
Yesterday after posting I re-embedded all graphics (delete and re-import with ! f i f ) but it still crashed. So I converted the larger graphics to PNG and re-imported them. I tried a quick Save As RTF and it worked. Hurrah! So I repeated the Save, this time to another directory, and it crashed. This morning it crashed again (but not before I had made a copy of the successful save ! ). There are still small graphics (screen caps of buttons in running text) but it will take me ages to convert all of them (it took an hour to do the larger graphics).
Thus I have files to keep my SME happy for now, but there may be some nasty surprises waiting for me somewhere down the line. That's why I'd like to nail this to the wall. I'll try Art's suggestion of yet another MIF-wash (which will be the third) and report back if there's anything new.

  • Problem keying graphics over video when exported.

    Hey
I'm new to FCE, but I work professionally in the television industry doing graphics/compositing/3d.
Outside of work, I mess around with my own movies and hardware.
I'm cutting together a piece shot with my Canon VIXIA HG20 camera. The footage/project is 720p.
My problem is that when I key a graphic over the video, it looks great while working in Final Cut, but when I export a full quality video, the graphics cause the entire screen to shift levels. The saturation drastically changes the instant the graphic begins to fade on. It doesn't shift gradually with the fade. This is only visible after export. The graphic is rendered. The image is a 32-bit Targa. The levels in the graphic are within the NTSC broadcast color range. I prepped it the same as I've done for years professionally.
I don't think this is a compression issue, because the change happens immediately, before the graphic is even barely visible.
I looked around, but couldn't find anyone with similar issues, but hopefully this has already been figured out by someone.
Any answers or suggestions are much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Colin

    Thanks for your reply.
As far as I know, targas can only be RGB. I couldn't find a way in Photoshop to work in YCbCr. I have Photoshop CS, so its pretty old, but even on my work computer, which has CS3, I didn't see anything. Next week I'll be installing CS4, so there might be something in that.
I won't be able to test anything until late tonight, but I'll try several formats to see if they make a difference. I'm wondering if there might also be some kind of option in FCE to convert imported graphics to the correct color space.
When keying graphics over video in your projects, how do you save them(formate, color space, etc)? Ever see this issue?
    Thanks for your help

  • FrameMaker 5.5, imported graphics couldn´t be saved after editing

    Hey togehther,
i have a problem with FrameMaker 5.5 on a Windows XP Workstation with Spervice Pack 2:
In case of editing an imported graphic in a FrameMaker documnet (e.g. an AutoCAD drawing) and saving the document after editing the drawing, FrameMaker crashes/freezes.
After reopening the document the drawing/graphic is not changed.
What cause can be present here?

    Hi Okeller,
You may have placed an OLE link into the FM document by just copying and then pasting into FM. Hence Your double click can open the original application to edit the graphic. Avoid OLE like hell!
But you hear MMH: FM 5.5 is now 12 years old and XP is 5 years younger ...
    Try the following:
    - Double click on your graphic to open the app in which you edit it
    - In this application create a graphic from the file, something that FM can handle: eps with preview or as the last a pixel image (tiff) and save this to the project directory
    - in FM remove the graphic from the anchored frame and import the new graphic file by reference (not copy) and adapt size etc.

  • Internal Error - Writing Imported Graphics

We crated the Framemaker document and the last time we used it was in 2007.
Now we are on a new release of the software and need to update the manual in Framemaker.
When I open my saved framemaker documents I get an internal error occurred while writing imported graphics in this document.  Please report this error to Adobe Technical Support.
I cannot make changes or save any of my Framemaker documents.
Does anyone know what I can do to get rid of this error?
    Attached is the FrameLog.
    Adobe FrameMaker 7.0

    Windows XP service pack 3
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem with FrameMaker 7.0. I'm trying to resist upgrading to 9.0 because we're using an older version of ePublisher for our help that is not compatible with FrameMaker 9.
The object I am trying to import is a diagram created in Word by one of my developers. He wants the text of the graphic to be selectable in the PDF, so I think I must insert it by OLE and not as a screenshot I import.
I have selected File > Import > Object > Microsoft Word Picture and then have selected Create from File and have pasted in the Word graphic. Not only does this cause trouble for me in sizing the graphic in FrameMaker but I get the same error mentioned in this thread:
An internal error occurred while writing imported graphics in this document. The file has been saved, but has lost some image data. Please report this error to Adobe Technical Support.
I just reinstalled FrameMaker, thinking that a previous trial of Frame 9 may have messed up my graphics filters. I'm getting the same problem still.
What is the best way to insert this object and retain its connection to Word?

  • Help!! Illustrator importing graphics

I have Illustrator CS5 (on mac) and ive run into a problem with importing graphics.  I used to be able to import something and click on it with the direct selection tool and change the colours or remove sections if needed, now all I can do is click on it as a whole and not change anything.
I've gone through all the preferences and even reset to default and its not fixing the problem. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this?
    Thanks,
    Amber

Ok so im going to ask a dumb question, how do you break the link? Also these images I have on my computer, in the past i place them into an illustrator document, and have no issues changing the colours or deleting sections of them, now when i place the same images they are coming in as linked and I cant change then at all? Im not sure what preference I have changed to make this happen, is there any way to change it back so i dont have this issue?
    Thanks

  • Imported graphic looks soft/pixelated

I designed an arrow in Photoshop that I saved as a .Tiff and want to bring into FCP. It seems real soft around the edges (almost pixelated). Anyone have any advice for importing graphics that look good.
    Thanks.

    1. Are you suggesting that I change this to something else?
If you want your graphics to look good, yes. DV is the very BOTTOM of the barrel SD...and it doesn't treat graphics well. Change your sequence settings to ProRes for SD, or DV50 and they will look better. You will have to render everything, but the graphics will look better.
CAVIAT: If you are going to put this back on tape then don't do this. DV50 or ProRes cannot be output to a DV tape. If you are going back to tape, then you will have to live with the quality of the graphics. It is what it is. GIGO... Garbage In, Garbage Out.
    2. I have already edited most of the project. Will it cause any problems to change it at this point?
Well, you will have to render every clip...but you can wait until you output. You will get a bright green render bar above the footage, but it will still play fine. But it won't look full quality until you render everything.

We are running FM version 7.2b144 on MS Win xp Pro (32 bit), and I did not notice this until service pack 3 was installed. I believe I have found a work around to the situation and another contributing cause. If graphic files are placed directly in an anchored frame instead of importing by reference, the file somehow becomes misplaced. If you right click the graphic and open the Object Properties dialog box, and see the phrase "no referenced file" below Main Editor: Referenced File: in the lower left hand corner, this has happened. I found if I removed all graphics files without references and imported them by reference, the source file may then be properly saved. I am also using a program called CCleaner, which removes cookies, temp files, browsing history and the like from a system. If the program settings are chosen too aggressively, and the application runs when FM has a file open, this same error will occur, even if all files are referenced properly. I don't know if SP3 has some similar application which is now running in the background and causing this.
To summarize, if you want to retain SP3, I have eliminated this error by confirming the links to referenced graphics files and avoiding using 3rd party "cleaners" while FM is open.

I am having problems importing to my Ipod nano via windows 8.  I usually do this from a windows 7 computer and have had no problems; hoever in windows 8 I can only see items purchased in the Itunes store.  I do not have access to my entire library, which includes song uploaded from CDs and some videos.  As a result, I'm having problems uploading any new items from CDs or DVDs.  The computer with windows 8 is an authorized computer, so I don't understand why I'm having the problem.

  • Problem importing from JVC MG 155 (videcam with hard disk drive)

I had a problem importing video from my videocam Jvc MG 155.
I tried when there was only few record in the videocam and everything gone right.
Otried when there were 520 movies and over 4 hour of video (I went to holiday and made also underwater movies) and the program crach before importing the movies.
I can import the moviesw only via firewire but in this way i import in DV mode (so I have near 60 gigabytes occupied by that movies insted of the original size in the hdd of the camera of 18 giga).
    Someone have a solution?
If I import by firewire I reach the same quality (the camera record directly in mpeg 2 and via firewire I import in dv way)?
    Any idea?
Jvc don't support mac because they don't give you software compatible (the cd inside is win only).

    You are right.
But the first time I imported with imovie 08 (the time when there was only few movies on the camera and everything gone right and the program don't crash) i notice that the program imported the movies in compress format (mpeg2) and the size was the same of the videocamera (more or less ..but I'm sure it's not in DV format).
Maybe the prgram crash because of the hight number of the miniature it must generate to let me choose witch I want import.
Certantly Apple mus resolve this bug because the model of this videocamera is one of the fews they assure like compatible directly with imovie 08.

  • Problems importing connections from a SAN directory

Is anybody having a problem importing connections from a directory that's on a SAN?
My network is setup so that the Application Data directory is out on a SAN and when SQL Developer opens up the file dialog, current directory is listed as C:\ and entry in the file name field is file://<server>/<path to my stuff>/Application Data/SQL Developer/. This looks fine but when I click on the "Open" button to get the directory listing, an error dialog pops up with the following message:
The directory C:\file:\<server>\<path to my stuff>\Application Data\SQL Developer is not accessible. Please select a different directory.
When I change the current directory to the drive that maps the SAN location, I get the same message only with C: replaced with another drive letter.
If I had to guess, the dialog is not processing the file:// protocol indicator properly before it attempts to get the directory listing. Does anyone have a work around?

Other users also had problems with network shares, so you're right that might very well be the cause of your problems.
As workaround, try mapping the settings folder to a local drive. Add this to \sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf:
    AddVMOption -Dide.user.dir=C:\sqldeveloperHope that helps,
    K.
