Problem importing messages after Envelope Index got damaged.

Envelope index crashed and I took it out to have a new file created.
Everything went smooth until file number 11766 was reached.
There the import grinded to a halt.
I removed the folder that contained the corrupted file (Sent items) and imported everything else.
Worked fine.
The problem now is how to import the folder containing the corrupt file.
I tried the import option and that performs the import but actually imports some other mbox folder I didn't even select.
Any suggestions on how to proceed.
TIA
Hans

I followed the common suggestion of deleting "Envelope Index" files to speed up mail
That's not a way to speed up Mail.
Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Intermediate answer: The app launched correctly and the import process has started.
It is taking ages though. Over 3 hours for around 30K messages.
The message count sometimes gets stuck for 20-30 minutes or so and then starts counting again...
There are ~5K messages left to be imported. I'll let you know if it goes ok.
Stay tuned for the next and hopefully last episode.

I've just upgraded to Tiger. Everything is working well, except mail. The initial process of importing messages goes on forever! I left it running overnight, and it still was not done. I have tried cancelling and restarting. I have also restarted the machine several times. It looks like the process is just stalling. i do have over 2000 messages in my mailbox, but even so, 8+ hours seems excesive.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Photos not imported message after opening iPhoto 08

Has anyone ever experienced following Problem:
Everytime I open iPhoto it appears this error message: "9 photos have been found in the iPhoto Library that were not imported. Would you like to import them?". If I choose yes, iPhoto shuts down after a short while. If I choose no, it works, but everytime I do so, one foto is added to the fotos left to import.
How do I get rid of this fotos?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right click on it and choose 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window opens with your library inside. You should see a folder there called 'Importing' or perhaps 'Last Import' (NOT Auto Import). In side will be the offending files. Drag that folder to the desktop and launch iPhoto. Does it work normally?

  • Import messages after new features are installed

I try to open Mail and get the following message:
To use the new features in mail, your existing Mail messages need to be imported into the mew version the first time you use mail. This make a few minutes you won't be able to use mail until the import is finished.
when I click continue, the preparing to import screen comes up and stays there I thought it just may take some time so I left it all day 12 hours later it still has not moved

I'm having the same problem, after a migration from a time machine backup. It's just sitting there "preparing for import."

  • Mail stops importing messages after 32 messages - HELP

Everytime I try and get my mail it downloads the messgaes but when it gets to the magic 32nd email it gets hung up. I veen deleted the suspicious email on the server and still when it gets to 32 it gets stuck. I tried entourage and it gets the messages no problem. Should I reinstall mail? if so how or any other suggestions (Cache etc)

This is a problem for which I've yet not found a solution when it happens. Another user recently reported being able to solve it by deleting some caches. Problem is, I have no idea what caches could have a bearing on this. If you want to try that, take a look at the following article:
Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
and be sure to read this in particular:
Side effects of System cache cleaning
In addition to the utilities mentioned there, you may also consider OnyX or Cache Out X, which are free.
Rather than blindly deleting every cache from your system, I encourage you to be somewhat selective, in order to be able to find out which cache could be involved in the problem, if any. Note that no applications other than the cache-cleaning utility should be running during the cache-cleaning operation, and that you should restart after each attempt before checking whether it makes a difference. Please, post back with your observations.

  • Problems with messaging after returning from overseas.

I recently spent 2wks in Bali and switched to an Indonesian SIM card while there.
When i returned to Australia i changed back to my Vodafone SIM but i've been having issues since then.
When I message other people, instead of my name appearing as the "contact title" it has my email address. I am not receiving messages from some people unless they send it to the email address contact.
For example, my sister has my phone number saved in her phone as "Lyndsey" but now whenever i message her it comes from a contact which is my email address.
I also can't send messages to certain people. I will type the message and attempt to send it and the sending status bar will run very slowly, and then the whole message will just disappear as if I never typed it out. It doesn't even say "failed to send", it just disappears.
I've tried turning the phone on and off, switching back an forth from flight mode, turning off iCloud, switching iMessage on and off, i've even reset the network settings.

After you reset the network settings and switched off iMessage, when you switched it back on, did it activate? If you go in and check your Send & Receive, is your phone number listed there and does it have a checkmark by it? I've read other threads where people changing countries and SIMs having these issues. Also, if reset network settings did not work, try to reset all settings.

  • [5800] Importing messages after backup failed

Before installing the new firmware on my 5800, I backupped everything by using the backup function in the filemanager. I also did a hard reset. I started importing all of the settings and files from my backup, and it looked like it all worked. But when I look to the inbox of my messages, it's empty. I'm trying to import only the messages, but it still doesn't work.
Why isn't he importing my messages? And is it possible to get it all back, maybe by doing it another way.

  • Problems importing CDs after upgrade

I have upgraded to the latest version of Quicktime and iTunes. Now when I pop in some CDs to import them (or, in this case, to re-import them at a higher bitrate, to match the songs I've upgraded through iTunes Plus), my MacBook won't mount the disc. It tries to read it for about 30 seconds and then spits it out.
The funny thing is that these are CDs that I have successfully imported in the past.
Is anyone else running into this problem?

  • Problem importing photos after the new Photos update:  When I drag photos from my desktop, why don't they don't replace the previously imported photos in "Last Import".

When I drag photos from my desktop to the new Photos icon, they don't replace the previously imported photos in "Last Import".

After several attempts, I now find that this is working for me.  I wasn't able to open the IMPORT folder in Photos until I clicked on "Close" from File Menu. Once I was able to open the IMPORT folder and select the photos for import, the new photos appeared in "Last Import."

  • Envelope Index is corrupted, can't re-import

My Mail Envelope Index got corrupted yesterday morning. Each time I try to re-import the mailboxes, the computer hangs during the process. This time, I did a safe boot, and tried re-importing that way, hoping that my chances of completion were higher. The machine hung anyway.
Disk Warrior did not find anything wrong with my directories. I will repair permissions, but I can't think of any other stratagems for fixing the Envelope Index. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Nicky

    Nicky,
I only was asking if those started in an older version of OSX were on any Mac that was upgraded to 10.4 or 10.5, or the Mail folder was migrated to a new Mac with the new OSX?
Quit Mail, and in the Finder open Home/Library/Mail. Make a Duplicate of the Mail folder, and drag the resulting copy to the Desktop another location for temporary backup.
Open the older POP account's folders, and then open the INBOX.mbox folder to start with. Remove all files except the Info.plist file and the Messages folder (with its message content). Any other files are leftovers from earlier versions of Mail, and while not actually used, can be problematic to proper indexing. Do the same for the Sent Messages.mbox folder, and either delete the Junk.mbox and Drafts.mbox or clean them up similarly. The Deleted Messages.mbox can be dealt with either to delete the folder, or similar cleanup.
Do this for each POP folder, although those less than a year old will likely not have any leftover files.
Next, in the Mail folder, open the Mailboxes folder. There open each xxxx.mbox folder and look for the same leftover files to remove.
Finally, again remove the Envelope Index and then relaunch Mail again. It should announce it is ready to Import your mailboxes -- allow this to continue, and it will reindex every mailbox.
For my authority that these are no longer needed, leftover files see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA23076
When the new form of mailboxes came into use, conversions of older mailboxes was often incomplete. There is a whole list of comparisons, and things to do to have a more complete conversion, but since you have been using the new versions of Mail for quite some time, I assume you are not needing to try to find any messages that failed to be converted from when you used 10.2 or 10.3, so I have not gone into that. However, the duplicate copy I had you make could be used for that, later.

  • Problems importing After Effects files into FCP

    Hey guys--
So I have this odd problem importing my after effects clips into FCP. I am working in standard DV, and my After Effects composition settings match my FCP settings.
I am snipping little bits from my FCP project, exporting them to QT, adding stuff on top in AE, then shooting the clip back to FCP. The problem is, whent he clip goes back to FCP it is slightly "pinched." It's not really thaat visible, unless I try to edit a cut in the same shot. The after effects clip is a couple pixels wider, and the quality is a little blurry. If it is a hard edit, you wouldn't even notice the difference, but the two shots together make it pretty noticeable. I'm not set to square pixels or anything, and i get the same results no matter which codec i render in AE with.
    Any ideas?
