Problem importing multiple MOVs - first clip has no sound...

Hi All,
I have a daily production schedule which requires the editing of 2 or 3 movs on a single timeline in Premier. Weird thing is, when I import, or drag and drop the clips into the project, the first clip is imported without sound - the others import fine.
Weirder still is that if I delete that first clip and then import it again, it pulls in perfectly.
The MOVs are MPEG-4 encoded stereo AAC @ 48kHz.
Any ideas?

Go back one level, so you get the forum and not just this message, and do a SEARCH for MPEG4 or MPEG-4
Premiere does not like to edit that type of file, so you should convert to DV AVI type 2 - or use different software to edit

Import from MiniDV, first clip has todays date

I'm going through old MiniDV tapes and importing them to iMovie 11 on Snow Leopard. I'm importing using both automatic and manual but the effect is the same on both.
The tapes are mostly from 2001-2006 but the first days clips of each import always go into the event library under the current year (2011) not the year it was shot. All subsequent days filming is named after the event with an appended "- Day X" in the correct year. Right clicking the clip and "adjusting the date" has no effect, the correct date (2001-2006) is shown, and adjusting it again doesn't move the clip in event library, it stays in 2011.
I've seen others reporting the same or similar but I've not found a solution for this for mini dv tape imports yet.
Any tipsor pointers appreciated

I've changed the microphone and the line-in settings to 48000 Hz but the problem still remains.
What else could it be?

Having problems importing my .mov file.

I am having problems importing several .mov files into iMovie. I also can't import .wmv files and I have been utterly confused. I know I have to convert the files but I don't want to pay for a program because I will only be converting 4 files. Please help!

It is a free conversion application that accesses the QT structure and all installed QT components without having to pay the $30 for QT Pro or purchasing GarageBand. It's "engine" is MPEG-based, so it can do some things that QT Pro cannot do ( e.g., retaining audio content when converting multiplexed compression formats). On the other hand, it cannot perform layer operations like QT Pro can so these applications are somewhat complementary.

Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 problems importing 12fps movies

I open an Image Sequence in QuickTime Pro 7 and save it as a movie at 12 fps.
I import that movie into Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 in a sequence with timebase of 24fps.
Problem : the first frame of the movie appears only on 1 frame instead of 2, and the last frame appears on 3 frames instead of 2.
Anyone else seeing this problem?
My work around is to make a 1 frame Freeze Frame of the first frame and add it at the head of the movie and then delete the third copy of the final frame. It's a tiresome work around though because I'm making animated films and have hundreds of these clips to bring in to Final Cut.

Sharon, very sorry, I apparently have mislead you. Still sequences I do in Motion. There may be other ways of grabbing still sequences. The exported movie relies on frame rate of the composition.
After Effects does it, too.

When you import a sequence of still images, it assumes the frame rate specified by the Sequence Footage preference in the Import category. The default rate is 30 frames per second (fps). You can change the frame rate after importing by reinterpreting the footage item:
Select the sequence in the Project panel, choose File > Interpret Footage > Main, and then enter a new value for Assume This Frame Rate.

I'm having problems importing a movie from my Panasonic Lumix DCM-ZS1 to iMovie

Hi, I'm new to mac and I have a Panasonic Lumix DCM-ZS1.
When I import my movies to iPhoto, the clips play perfectly, but when I try to open them with iMovie, they look very dark. The only solution I've found so far is to open them with Quicktime and export the video as m4v it can be opened in iMovie without a problem. I think it might have to do with a codec or something like that.

You don't need the Clip Browser...just get the Log and Transfer plugin and use FCP to import. I have a workflow here, with links to the software you need:

If you use the CLip Browser, you need to use IT to convert the footage to Quicktime, then bring the QT files into FCP.

How to import 150 .mov (quicktime) clips into iMovie '11?

Hello,
Newbie to iMovie and having some trouble. My wedding videographer took off with my wedding footage (and the footage of 100 other couples.) Through the police and some of my own detective work, I was able to seize my wedding footage and have it on an external hard drive. I have already spent thousands of dollars trying to recoup my footage and now that I finally have it, I don't have the extra money to have it made into an actual movie/dvd.
All of the more than 150 clips are in .mov format and I am unable to import them into iMovie that way. Any ideas on how to convert that many HD clips into a file that iMovie will recognize without losing video quality & sound?

I did it! I realized after 2 hours of it not working, that I was doing it 1 step wrong. I was trying to import the actual file with all the clips, rather than just the clips themselves... Silly error, and the import of .mov files into iMovie was seemelss.. Quality is great and didn't take long. Thanks again.

Problem Importing Flash Movie

I exported a animation I made in flash CS3 to quicktime but for some reason when I import it to Motion, it only imports about half the clip and then it just cuts off. I also cannot change the duration of the clip in motion.

OK, open it up in QT Player and do the get info and see what FPS it says the movie is at. I'm guessing it will say less than 30 FPS, but let us know.
I had this bug where QT movies created in Compressor 3 brought back into Motion would do this same thing and the QT Player told me that those movies had FPS of 19 or 12, etc, and not the 29.97 they should have had.
If you are able to export it out as Animation codec 100% quality from Flash, you should be able to now take it directly into FCP and then export it as a QT movie from FCP. Don't send it to Motion from FCP, export it out of FCP as a QT movie with Animation codec 100%. After that, check to see what the FPS is. Hopefully, FCP will export it out properly and you should be able to then import it into Motion.
What I'm trying to do is get another application to take that QT movie and export it out to see if it can fix the movie.

Problem importing some .MOV files into Premiere Elements 11

Hello,
I am trying to import film footage into Premiere Elements 11 and am coming across a rather confusing problem. All of the footage is in .mov format and all of it was taken on the same device on the same day with the same settings.
When I try to import the footage, some files import ok, others will not import at all and I get a message saying 'The importer reported a generic error'. It seems very odd to me that some .MOV files are OK and others are not.
This same footage can easily be imported into Premiere Elements 10 and into Windows Movie Maker - which makes me think the issue is with Premiere Elements 11.
Does anyone have any ideas on this?

What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what format and resolution is it? Did you use Premiere Elements to get the video from the camcorder to your computer?
Have you ensured you have the latest version of Quicktime installed on your computer?

Problems importing multiple files into iTunes

I'm running the most recent version of iTunes. When I try to add multiple files to my itunes library a box pops up and it seems to be importing, but when the box closes, the files are not in my library. I can only add 2 or three files at a time, but no more than that. This didn't happen with the older version of iTunes. Is anyone else having the same problem, and is there a way to solve this? I have tons of files that I want to import, but at this rate, it will take months to import them. Please help!

Premier to Audition Problem With Multiple Channel Audio Clip

Hi Guys, I am trying send clips into audition to remove noise. The clips have 8 channels of audio but in audition only one shows up, and it seems to randomly choose one. The audio channels are all on one file so I don't understand why audition doesn't recognize this. Premier for sure sees all of them. So when I remove the noise, it only works for one channel.
How can I solve this? Merging all the channels into one clip and then sending it?

Hummm, you got me. I take my multitrack, open the individual sound files, do my effects and save as .wav
then I import the .wav back into Premiere

Import a movie studio clip into iMovie

I would like to use a movie clip they show before a movie begins. Like the globe from Universal, or the road from Jerry Buckenheimer Films, or of course the lion from Metro Goldwyn, etc..
Is there a way to do this? I'm using iMovie 4.

step a) you need a commercial dvd with that opening...
b) get rid of copyprotection; a handy tool is MacTheRipper, please search on your own...

No audio imported after first clip

I have been dealing with this issue for about 3 weeks now. I can import the clip with audio when I import the very first clip but afterwards all clips have no audio imported into the project.
It is bizarre. I have not found anyone online having the same issue. I am using Premier Pro CC.
I will probably have to erase the application and reinstall, but I was hoping there was a simpler option.

Imovie keeps quitting during import of movies from Sony DVD Handycam

While importing movies with my sony dvd handycam, imovie imports 7 clips and stops...I have successfully imported many movies before and can't figure out why it continues to quit? PLEASE HELP

10.0.1 imports of .mov fail , keynote export to movie

I have run into a problem importing a .mov file in imovie 10.0.1
The files are ok I started imovie 9 and the import fine, but no such luck with 10.0.1
I get the no importable files dialog.
The file is openable in quicktime and I have tried alsorts of conversions but imports still fail

Just checked a .mov from a canon camera does import ok.

Yes .mov files can use a variety of codecs some of which are not importable into iMovie 10. You will need to convert them into something which is accepted. If you open them in Quicktime 10 you should be able to save them in another format or you can use a third party app like the free Media Converter (http://media-converter.sourceforge.net).

Problem with multiple applications using one audio output

Hey there, I'm having issues setting up my 5.1 headset seen here (http://www.sharkoon.com/?q=en/content/x-tatic-digital) to work with multiple applications.
Right now I have audio streaming from a flash video, when I try run "$ speaker-test -c 6" I get the following error:
speaker-test 1.0.25
Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 6 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1018:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
Playback open error: -16,Device or resource busy
If I try open another application which uses this device, the first application has its sound cut off.
2 more things to note:
- My preference for setup would be audio output through S/PDIF and input through USB, with the USB output disabled (To not waste system resources).
- I unmuted all channels in ALSA, however when I ran the test only 2 channels seemed to be working (Front L&R), it may have been defaulting to the USB connection, in which case, that explains only 2 channels being in use, is there a method of setting the S/PDIF as default system wide?

Interesting, apparently 2 audio streams are working, however the console thing still doesn't work..?

Didn't last long, now flash crashes and html 5 doesn't work -.-

Flash only works when other audio is active, however it has constant popping sound. I went through the system logs to get the errors of when flash crashes, it's audio crashing it, here's the error:
