Problem Importing Video - LR4

I have tried to import both mp4 and AVCHD (Panasonic .mts format) into Lightroom 4 (videos are on the hard drive) and each time LR reports an 'problem with the video'.
The videos play perfectly well with other software - so codecs are in place for them.
Anyone any suggestions.
Thanks.

Thanks Mudstrand,
But I found the solution to my problem by accident.
I have a firewall on my PC (as most people will/should have), and it reported a problem with some totally unrelated software trying to connect to the internet without approval and saying it had blocked it.
I went in to the firewall to reset the permission to allow it (it was an update check) and saw some other files that had been blocked. There were 2 files named.'dynamiclinkmanager' and 'dynamiclinkserver' both of which had been also 'blocked'.
I remember these as being Lightroom files as I'd seen them mentioned before in some other references to lightroom problems, so I unblocked them----- and video immediately started to import in LR.
I'm not sure what these two files do, and I have not seen any references to checking the firewall for them being mentioned in any place I've found talking about the video problem - so never thought to check there.

  • Sync and frame rate problems importing video to Flash CS3

Just like the subject states, I am indeed having frame rate problems importing video to Flash CS3.
When I export a video from Premiere with the settings:
    1280x720
    frame rate of 23.976
using H264 or Animation (basically every codec produces the same results),
"embed video on SWF and play in timeline"
When I do this the file exports fine. Playing it in Quicktime works fine and the audio syncs up no problem. But when I import it into Flash using the same settings, for some reason the movie clip is now too fast in that the video does not match the audio and seems to be at more like 12 fps now (just a guestimate). The action of the video is over long before the audio even comes in.I have verified that the frame rate is correct in Flash so it's not that.
I've done this literally hundreds of times in the past and suddenly it does not work and I can not figure out why. I'm not even really using video, but actually artwork that I am putting together as an animatic for an animated piece so the video could not have been imported incorrectly or digitized wrong either. Can someone out there please tell me how to make this work? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    -Mike

Thanks for you quick response however it really doesn't apply to what I am doing in any way. I will not be uploading the video to a server. I am using the imbed function so I can use it as a layer and then animate over it. It is just reference and will ultimately be deleted. The Fla file does indeed carry the same specs as I stated in my first post. I have done it this way dozens of times and I am trying to figure out why it suddenly will not work.

  • Problems importing video into Lightroom 5.3

I am using LR 5.3 on a Macbook running Mavericks.  Since upgrading from Lightroom 4 I have had trouble importing videos into Lightroom.
The generic video thumbnail appears, but the import hangs and never completes.  When cancelling the import the error message is shown "No photos or video were found to import."
After reading on various forums I have tried:
    restarting computer (many times)
    uninstalling previous version of LR
    purging video cache
    changing source location
    changing destination and/or import type
    reinstalling LR5.3
I have also noted that old videos already in the catalogue that played fine in LR4 won't play back in LR5.3.  They play fine in Quicktime.
Has anyone else solved this problem?

    Hi InVisionMedia
I found a Simular Poste regarding this topic: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5397854
So going over it might enlighting you on the issue. Also i would suggest to start with the Basic Troubleshoot for Playback issues on Lightroom: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/troubleshoot-video-issues-lightroom-4.html
If you have Lightroom 4 still installed, Also make sure that you can still use the footage in the original L4 catalog.
See if the files still work fine in the "old" version.
Hopefully it will help you to fix the issue.

  • Problem importing video from a DV camera into the new imovie 10.0?  I have a Sony DCR TRV17 connected via Firewire port that worked in 9.0.9 but not under 10.0...

I have a Sony DCR TRV17 that I used to pass through VCR tape video via Firewire port to my Mac Pro under Imovie 9.0.9 without an issue.   Now under Imovie 10.0 the video shows in the import window, I can start recording yet when I stop recording the recorded clips do not show up anywhere.  The movie file I'm creating still indicates that I still need to import video.   Anyone having similar problems?

    Hey Dave,
I had this issue only once before but was lucky enought to find it was a specific event causing the import to freeze. It took me some time to isolate the problem though. I would recommend letting it sit there for some time before you try any troubleshooting. Larger libraries can take long periods of time to update.
This is a good thread for this issue.  I would first try removing the iMovie.plist as elikness mentions.
    1. Open Finder
    2. Click on "Go" in the menu bar.
    3. Click on Go To Folder on the dropdown menu.
    4. Type "~/Library/Preferences/" in the text field and click Go.
    5. Find the com.apple.iMovie(some number).plist file and move it to Trash.
Quit and relaunch iMovie to see if this took care of the issue before attempting the next step. If you're still having an issue then you can try what I needed to do which is isolating the problem event.
    1. Open Finder.
    2. Go to the Movies folder. You should see iMovie Events here.
If you have a larger event library I'd recommend renaming the iMovie Events folder to say, "iMovie Events COPY". Then create a new empty folder named “iMovie Events”. When you launch iMovie 9.0.9 all events will be missing at this point. Quit iMovie if it is open. Then you can either drag each event from iMovie Events COPY to iMovie Events or you can select and drag several at a time. Each time you drag an event folder back into the new iMovie Events folder launch iMovie 9.0.9 to see if you are having the same issue. Wash and repeat until either you have found the problem event or you have imported all events.
If you find the problem event you can reimport the clip from iMovie 9.0.9 by going to File > Import > Movies and navigating to that events iMovie Original Movies folder to find the clip.
    Hope this helps!

  • Problems importing videos recorded from my iPhone 3GS to iPhoto

I am having problems importing any videos recorded from my iPhone 3GS onto iPhoto. iPhoto keep giving me the following error:
"Error downloading Image. iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image."
If anyone else is having the same problem, please advise on how to fix.
    Thanks,

I am having the same problem...
and Image Capture ( didn't know we would normally be able to use it, but you can) also give an error
    "Import Error"
Now I have used "ITimelapse pro" to transfer some timelapse movies (about 3 that are about 30 to 60 seconds long) that I made to the phone's photo library.. and I has a very long video that I mistakenly made - (15 minutes long or so) and I "trimmed" it to be a few minutes long. -- and used "JotNot" to send a photo to the photo library... otherwise I have only some regular photos (about 40 ) and about 2 regular videos in the library.
so any suggestions... ( I am emailing all that I can to myself ... maybe ridding everything will help)

  • Problem importing video files in LR5.4 on mac

    Hello all,
I have a problem importing ANY video file (mp4, mov, mts) into LR5.4 both from the hard drive or directly from the camera. LR reports an error with a file or, if I have already clicked on "purge cache" in Preferences / File Handling and restarted LR, then LR starts to import but then stops and reports a problem with a dynamic server link. Please help!
    Best regards,

  • Problem importing video to MY Book external. Video freezes-Drive disappears

New Western Digital My Book 320. Formatted and partitioned Mac OS Extended. When importing, video on import window will freeze, then catch up. After a few times of doing this during import... the external drive will disappear and I'll get an error message saying drive disconnected improperly. Geek at Best Buy thought I had a bad drive, but now the replacement doing it. No problem importing to my internal drive.
I suppose I could import to internal, then move to external, but that kinda defeats the purpose.
    Any help appreciated. Thanks.
    David

It sounds like you are doing everything right. I can only say it is working for me.
I currently capture to a Western Digital 1TB MyBook Studio Edition over Firewire 800. It works great for both DV and AVCHD, although AVCHD is not in real time.
Before that, I captured DV to a Western Digital MyBook 500GB over firewire 400.
    Some random things to try:
    1) Are you at version 7.1.1 (and run Disk Utility/Repair Permissions after the upgrade)?
    2) Are you running Time Machine? Is it kicking off during your capture?
    3) Are you running an AntiVirus Program?
    4) What camera do you have? Some Canons are known for not playing nice with other Firewire Devices.

  • Problem importing videos using Photos for Mac

I just install photos for mac, everything seems ok since I moved iphoto library to new photos library.
But there is one problem, I can not import videos from my iphone, every new photo was imported but not a single video.
The application said the format file is unrecognizable file type.
I am using macbook air with Mac OS X Yosemite ver 10.10.3 also iphone 4s and iphone 5, each idevice using latest ios.
    Thank you in advance

iPhoto did not support video syncing over iCloud. The new Photos app does. If you synced, or transferred your videos to iTunes, they should have migrated yo Photos. Enable Sidebar in the View menu, then check the Videos special Album.
Your old iPhoto app and iPhoto Library remain on your drive and work as before. The iZphotolsb is in your Applications folder.
How to get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS X10.10.3.

  • Problem importing video footage on to iMovie

I have just bought a Sanyo Xacti camcorder and have just imported my first videos on to the Macbook. Weirdly, only about 40% of the product seems to have been imported, ie. if a piece of film lasts 40 seconds on the Sanyo only 18 seconds is imported on to the Macbook.
Strangely, this is not the case if I use iphoto, where the entire film seems to be imported.
Help! Any ideas why imovie is not importing the full video recordings?

I have similar problem importing from Sony camcorder to iMovie9. Four short videos are on the camera, but only the last one imported. I use Import All, but the other videos still don't show in iMovie, so I also can't see them to manually select them. Should have enough processing speed. Also, have plenty of memory. Any ideas?

  • Strange Problem importing video

I'm trying to import video from my optura 20. Have done it lots of times before. Imovie HD recognizes the camera is connected with a light blue background and that it is playing but refuses to show the video or import it. Toast 7 actually bombs when the camera is connected. BUT get this.........FCP 3.0, Squeeze 4.1 and QT 7.1 are all happy as clams with the video.......any ideas? Thanks. PS I repaired permissions just in case......

I may have a similar problem. I have imported video from my Sony camcorder numerous times. In the last 48 hours, the import function stopped. I can control the camera through imovie's controls: play, FF, rewind etc. When I click on import to import the video, it does nothing. If I use camcorder's control to play the video, I see no video in iMovie but it accurately reports on a blue screen that video is playing. My CPU utilization goes up indicating that the computer seemed to be getting the video and processing it.
In system profiler I see correct model of Sony camcorder.
Only thing I did in the 48 hours is to download audacity -- open source audio recording program. I have removed the folder containing Audacity. Still no change.
Also tried playing a few -- more than a few tunes!
    Have the latest software versions.

  • Problem importing videos into file-shared library

There appears to be a bug in iPhoto for importing videos in the case where a library is opened via file sharing.
I've posted a bug report with Apple but it might help others to know about this. If I'm mistaken feel free to explain, that would be helpful too.
I have an iPhoto library on a Mac Mini server at home. I often open the iPhoto library on the mini via file sharing from my laptop to edit it.
I can drag and drop photos from my Sony DSC-H55 memory card plugged into my laptop onto iPhoto and they import fine into the file-shared library.
If I do the same with videos I get an error message that they are an unsupported file type.
If I copy the videos to the mini, and open iPhoto locally on the mini, they import fine.
In every other way, working with this iPhoto library via file sharing has been flawless, so this looks like a bug.

Interesting, thanks for the warning, Terence. I guess I assumed error correction would deal with that scenario, but I suppose there are insidious errors that could slip through and result in a mangled library. I do regular backups but still, I might lose that one special priceless photo!
It's easy enough to use screen sharing to operate iPhoto on the mini over wireless. I can transfer files first and then import that way. That would avoid this bug too.
Would you say this applies to other aspects of file sharing too? In other words, should we simply never edit a crucial file on a remote machine connected by wireless?
Where I work we often use SVN over wireless. I wonder if we could damage something while updating the repository.

  • Problem importing videos

I am trying to import videos that are on my computer, but when i try to iTunes tells me that "the file could not be imported because it does not appear to be a valid exported file." Now can i only have one kind of video or can i use avi, and other types?

This link gives you the FAQ's for video imports. If you are trying to import an AVI file, it is not a compatible format.

  • Problems importing video to iPhoto

I know that in order to import video into iPhoto, I just follow the same steps as for importing photos. However, when iPhoto recognizes my camera, it says that there are no photos on my camera, and so refuses to import anything. If I take a picture, it will show up with 1 photo - but then will import just the photo, not the videos. Thoughts?

iPhoto 4 does not support importing video at all. That's only available with iPhoto 5 or later.

  • Problems importing video into Event....

    Hi,
I've used iMovie loads but recently I've had issues importing video into an event.
I choose "import", choose the video (from GoPro) and then it takes 2-3 hours to import maybe half of the clips but not all.  I am importing no more than 7 clips at a time and these clips are 17 minutes each.
    Are the clips too big?
    Please help.

  • Problem:Imported video is choppy and then camera stops playing

I'm using a Sony DCR-HC96 connected to my Macbook, tried both Imovie HD and Imovie 08 and I have the same problem. When I try to import the video, the playback from the camera is very choppy, and after a few seconds the camera stops playing. If I just play the camera without importing, the footage is good. Sometimes the choppy-ness is right away and other times i will be able to import a few minutes and it starts again...
Addendum: Just realized I posted this in the Imovie 11 forum. My Bad, as the saying goes..I will post it in the Imovie 08 as well.

As the drive fills and you're going farther and farther into the disk it gets more and more problematic. When the drive is empty you're writing on the outer portion of the disc. The more it fills, the disk area gets narrower and narrower and slower and slower compared to the outer portion. USB drives that deliver information in bursts have more problems with this than drives that have sustained throughput like FireWire. For video, which requires sustained data delivery, this can be a problem. Depending on the computer and how full its drive is you can sometimes get better performance with DV capturing to the internal. It might be worth a try.
