Problem in calling a servlet from JSP

Hi,
I am trying to call Loginservlet from my UserLogin.jsp and the code I used in jsp is:
<form method="post" action="/LoginServlet name=form1>
All the components are here
</form>
And I have also checked web.xml. It looks like

<servlet-class>servlets.LoginServlet</servlet-class>
</servlet>

But still when I submit the Jsp page, I am getting error which says the resource "servlets.LoginServlet" is not available.
I am using TOMCAT5.0 server and eclipse IDE.

I have a struts form that uploads a file (which works perfect with no problem). IN this form i have a <html:submit> button.
My problem is, if I have a field say Employer field; and i would like to search the employer address as soon as the focus leaves the employer text field and display it in the same form. I wrote a javascript onchange="javascript:getEmpaddress(this)"my javascript is:

You can call the servlet via RequestDispatcher (include or forward method):
RequestDispatcher dispatcher=getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/servlet/ServletName");
dispatcher.include(request,response);In the request you can store the data with setAttribute methode.
And in the servlet you can get this data via request.getAttribute methode.

Hi,
You have not said if your servlet is in a package in which case which one.
you need to add the '/servlet/' to the href so it becomes
'/servlet/test1'.

Problem when call unix script from jsp

Dear all,
I want to list all the file in a unix directory and display in jsp.
And the directory have below files:
-tmp1.txt
-tmp2.txt
-log.txt
-blog.txt
I used the runtime object and Runtime.exec ('ls -lrt') which can get the file list suceesful.
But when i use Runtime.exec('ls -lrt tmp*) , then it get nothing.
Pls kindly help.

I agree with DrClap. But you may need to do "shell wild-card expansions" for something else. Your type of question is asked quite frequently in the forums. Do a little more research. As a hint. Java will not expand your "tmp*". A Unix shell will however. So you need to pass your little command to a Unix shell and have java execute the shell command along with your "ls -lrt tmp*".

Calling a Servlet from a JSP within Portal Portlet

We've created a JSP that calls a Servlet when the form is submitted. The servlet handles the request, does some basic processing and then forwards back to a JSP. This works fine outside of Portal.
What needs to be done in order for this to work within a portlet in Portal? We can get to the first JSP which is in a portlet, but as soon as we click the submit button (which tries to call the servlet) we get the basic page not found error. We need to click the button, go to the servlet and have the servlet forward back to our portlet.
I know this is not the ideal way of using Portal however...
Any ideas?

I was wondering is there any way I can call a servlet from jsp? There are two scenarios here
1 - if the jsp is currently being executed/evaluated on the server, then you can use <jsp:include> to "call" a servlet, or <jsp:forward> to cancel the jsp and transfer the control to the servlet.
2 - if the page is already loaded and running in the client, then the only way to call a servlet is making a HTTP request as from any other html page. Jave code does not execute on the client, so you have to use html/javascript at that point.

lets say one servlet maintains all dynamic html. I call this servlet from another servlet to create a dynamic page and then insert values into it.Close, but the standard pattern is the reverse of that. What normally happens is you retrieve the values to put in the page, and then call the page, passing in those values. Thats why often you get a servlet/actionbean getting called, which then forwards to a JSP to display the result. The servlet/bean loads all the values required into scope, and then the JSP presents the data.

Very urgent: call servlet from JSP

I'm facing a problem in invoking a servlet from a JSP having the JSF components.
The application has a text field to implement ajax for search functionality in the database .I have written a servlet to make the database connection and fire the querry.
Ajax implementation in a js file is called on every keyup event in the jsp file,and
a call is given to the servlet from the ajax methode.
The function in the js file is as follows:-

the status 500 generally means either HTTP server internal error or that execution of CGI script or servlet aborted with error.
It can be reasonably supposed that the request reaches the servlet, ie. that "url" value points to some existing servlet, otherwise most probably the status value would be 404.
To test that the servlet is working i'd try to access it using some simple html page with form like this (with {BASE_URL} replaced by real value):

<input type=text name=firstName>
<input type=Submit>

well....my problem is as follows:
whenever i type...... http://localhost:8080/appName/
i am getting 404 error.....it is not calling to login.jsp (default jsp)
but when i type......http://localhost:8080/appName/login.do........it executes servlet properly.
Basically this 'login.do' is form action (form action='/login.do').....and i wanted to execute this from login jsp only.(from submit button)
In short can anyone please tell me how to diaplay jsp page using tomcat 5.5

How to call a servlet from another servlet

hi everybody,
i have a problem, i have to call one servlet from another one.
Everything works on my pc, but when i install the application on the customer's server i got an error about an Uknown URL followed by the name of the machine.
Wjat i do is the folloqing :
String urlString = request.getScheme()+"://"+request.getServerName()+":"+request.getServerPort()+"/"+servletName;
URL url = new URL(urlString);
HttpURLConnection conn = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
the variable servletName is the name of the servlet i have to call.
Is there another way to call the servlet ?
All the servlet are installed in the same server.
Any suggestion ?

Sweep is correct about requestDispatcher being another approach for inter-servlet delegation; the only issue that i recall with this approach is that it defaults the method of the destination servlet to the one it was called from...for example, calling servlet2 from within servlet1.post() resulted in the dispatcher attempting to utilize servlet2.post() - i believe that i searched for a parameterize solution to no avail :( (ended up handling the request by placing a "fake" doPost() in servlet2 that simply called servlet2.doGet())
however, if your application is functioning correctly on your pc/webserver then the problem may be external to servlet communication (e.g. client webserver's ports not configured or blocked, missing runtime classes, etc.)
my suggestion would be to set aside the programmatic concerns for the moment - what is the response if you open a browser on a client's machine and access the URL in question (i.e. http://clientserver:port/stefanoServlet)? If it will not respond to access in this manner then it certainly won't when your application calls for it.
It's possible that there is a coding error but, given the info supplied, i'd start examining the environment, first. Let us know if you have any luck with the test i recommended or not (please provide abundant detail). Or, if you've found the solution then you may want to post back with a quick blub so the next person knows how to escape the trap.

Error in accessing servlet from JSP

When I access a servlet from a JSP page,I am getting the following error message :
Error 404--Not Found
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
10.4.5 404 Not Found
The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.
If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address.
I am using Weblogic 7.0 and my web.xml code is as follows:

Did you package your JSPs in a WAR and your EJBs in a JAR and package the
          WAR and JAR in an EAR? That is how to do it in 6.0. Works well.

How to get an ArrayList Object in servlet from JSP?
hi all
please give the solution for this without using session and application...
In test1.jsp file
i am setting values for my setter methods using <jsp:usebean> <jsp:setproperty> tags as shown below.
After that i am adding the usebean object to array list, then using request.setAttribute("arraylist object")

In testServlet.java
i tried to get the arraylist object in servlet using request.getAttribute
But I unable to get that arrayObject in servlet.....
So if any one help me out in this, it will be very helpfull to me..

JMO, but I wouldn't do it like this.
Don't have a remote object like a servlet doing database queries for your app. That will mean TWO network hops for every query if the database resides on another machine. The network is the biggest bottleneck you've got.
Write a JavaBean that does the database stuff for you and just have the first servlet instantiate it when it needs it. A Bean has a better chance of being reused, too. Write a TableGateway or DAO for your object.
Or write an EJB to do it.
The only time I've done a servlet-to-servlet connection like that was for one servlet running in a DMZ that would authenticate a user and then forward the request to another servlet running inside the second firewall.
I wouldn't encapsulate database query logic in a servlet like that. JMO - MOD
