Problem in changing 3.x update rule

Hi gurus,
I have a problem after upgrading from 3.x to 7.
In an update rule, when I insert a constant into a characteristic field, the system displays this popup: "transfer the routine for this characteristic to all the key figures for this update rule?". After say yes, I would like to exit (with green flag) from update rule but it's impossible!
The system displays me again the list of characteristics and then the previous popup.
Can anyone help me?

Try different keyboard inputs
- press <ENTER>
- use F4 help
- press F2 (check)
press activate (F3). Works this?

Change description of update rule between ODS'es

Hi!
In a BW 3.5 system I have the following problem: I cannot change the description of an update rule between two ODS'es.
When creating such a rule the system automatically generates the technical name and takes the description of the source ODS for the naming of the update rule. Afterwards I have changed the description of the ODS. I have deleted the old update rule and recreated it. When selecting the source ODS from the F4 picklist the new description can be seen. When the source ODS is selected and the update rule is generated, the old description has appeared again however.
Does anybody knows how this is possible and what can be done about it?

Hi Avneet,
Lets say Material group is an attribute of 0MATERIAL. You cube contains Material and also Material Group as a separate characteristic (not as navigational attr) becasue you want to store the value of material group as it was during the time the transaction happened.
But here you transactional data coming from the source brings Material values, not values of Material Group. So in the update rule for Material Group, you can specify "Master data attribute of" 0MATERIAL. What the system will do is take the value of 0MATERIAL on this record and populate Material Group taking the value that is present in Material Master data.
So if Material = M100 and Material Group is MG01 in master data, it will supply MG01 to Material Group char in the cube.

I am trying to extract data from DB connect. everything all right, i have created Info source and its active. when i have created ODS that is active.but when try to create update rules. Iam getting error massage like this.
"No communication structure exits in version service center for change for info source A.

Hi,
try to insert a new infoobject in the communication structure. Activate it. Take off the object and active again.
This should activate all the sctructures and associated programs.
Try to create the update rule then

Problem when creating update rules

Hi Friends..
I'm actually having a problem when I'm creating update rules from my cube to my Infosource. This infosource is created by Dierct update of Master data (ZXXXX) Infoobject. the error which is popping up is ,
Data source ZMMOBJ1 not maintained (check your entries)
Message no. RSAU252
Diagnosis
The data source is not active
Can some one guide me, How I can resolve this error.??

Hi,
Check the infosource you are using for the cube. you cant use direct update infosource.
'Direct update of master data' infosource updates into the infoobject.
you will not have update rules for this direct update.
you use update rules only when you use flexible update infosource.

Authorization Check for Update Rules Modify during Scheduling of InfoPackag

Hello Everyone....
We have recently upgraded our Testing Environment to NW2004s SP10, and the system is currently Non-Changeable and all the other changes have been brought in via transports.
After SGEN has completed, when I try to open up an existing InfoPackage and click on the "Start" button it gives me the "You have only authorization to display the "InfoProvider" name".
If it is the load into DSO it complains about Activity 23 not available for the Subobject UPDATERULE of the object S_RS_ODS and if it is an InfoCube it complains about Activity 23 again for the Subobject UPDATERULE of the object S_RS_ICUBE.
Which doesn't really make sense as the Activity 23 would allow the change to the Update Rules for the InfoProviders.
Please advice if there is any other Role or Profile which needs to be maintained or a system setting to avoid this Auth Check.
Also, the same when repeated in the Development environment shows the message "Generating the Update Program" in the status bar below and once that has completed, the extract works fine.
Please advice......
Any help would be really appreciated as we are kind of stuck on this issue.

Hi,
You should use transaction ST01 then you can see the objects asked for with the value needed. Also transaction SU53 gives you information about the object you want to use. The new transaction RSECADMIN with the tab analyses gives you information that is not in SU53 and releated to the data selection. If it is an analyses authorization problem add authorization object 0BI_ALL to a role in the autorisation object S_RS_AUTH. I think you can get the information you need this way.

How to get the PSA name in a Start Routine in the Update Rules of a Cube.

Hi all.
I have an InfoSource that loads data directly in an Infocube.
In the Start Routine of the Update Rules I need to retrieve the PSA table name for that InfoSource, to access it and check some data.
I can't use the PSA name you seen in the DataFlow because it will change once the update rules are transported to another system.

we do it as follows:
first get the request ID:
DATA: tp_request(30) VALUE 'REQUEST'.
FIELD-SYMBOLS: <wa> TYPE ANY, <tp_req> TYPE ANY, <tp_dtp> TYPE ANY.
READ TABLE datapak ASSIGNING <wa> INDEX 1.
IF sy-subrc <> 0. ABORT = 4. ENDIF.
ASSIGN COMPONENT tp_request OF STRUCTURE <wa> TO <tp_req>.
IF sy-subrc <> 0. ABORT = 4. ENDIF.
requnr = <tp_req>.
then we get the table with
SELECT odsname_tech FROM rstsodspart WHERE request = requnr.
you may need to adjust this code, I've just pasted the relevant parts...
another way is to get this info from RSTSODS where the different versions are maintained...
let me know if you need further detail about this stuff...

Keyfigure display in update rule is not there!

Hello Experts,
I followed the steps provided to create the snap shot ods for stock initialisation based on the how to inventory management document.
I created three key figure info objects and created a ods as given in the document!
When I create update rule the key figures are not shown in the update rule but it shows the units in the update rules that are used by the key figures!
I gone through the OSS Note, the information is to have support package 10 implemented but we have support package 21(SAPKW35010 but already we have SAPKW35021) (BW 3.5)
Still the problem Exists while creating the update rule!
Suggest me where I am wrong!

Problem in the update rule routine in BIW production

hi,
I have encountered a problem in the update rule, the problem is, there is a routine to calculate the age of a person, age is a key figure,
The problem is that the key figure is not being calculated.
we had encountered the same problem in the bw developent, we reinstaled the update rule, and the age was calculated correctly. Where as in production we cannot instal from business cotent, should we transport the perticular update rule once again?
if there is any other solution, please let me know.

I think retransporting is the only option available to you. You cannot modify anything in your production system.
IF you have a chance to speak with basis people,ask them to open the system status to modifiable for few minutes.
and make necessary changes in production and bring it back to normal (This is not a best practise in all situations).

Time consuming problem in Self update rule

Hi all:
We have time consuming problem in self update rule.I have ODS ZOMS001,for this we created self update rule.In process chain we include this self update rule and during delta update,it takes 20 to 25 mins even if there is two records or 10000 records.In delta for this self update rule,it takes the whole records in ODS
EX: If i have 10000 records during initialise and 10 records in Delta update...For the delta self update rule it takes 100010 records..But it only update delta records values.
we have to reduce the total time consuming for this self update during delta..

Update rule problem for date in Prod

My scenario is like this:-
ODS 2 is loaded from ODS 1, in ODS 1 there is a data field calendar day (DATS, time characteristic) and there is a data field posting date (DATS, characteristic) in ODS 2. In the update rule, the posting date is updated from calendar day by a formula source.
The problem is the posting date data field is updated into ODS 2 correctly in development box but it is not updated (blank) in production box. I can't figure out what is the cause, hopefully someone can give me some help. Thanks.

Master Data lookup in Update Rule problem

Hi all,
I am currently having a problem loading data to an InfoCube using flat files.
The architecture is as follows:
1) The source of the data is a flat file
2) The data is loaded thru an Update Rule and is of type Full-Update
3) The Update Rules determines the Profit Center using the Master Data of the WBS-Element
4) The data is written in an InfoCube
This solution however does not always work as planned. In the following situation a problem occurs:
1) The flat file contains WBS-element RD.00753.02.01, which has a Profit Center attribute value 8060
2) When I load the flat file, the PC value 8060 is written into the row in the InfoCube, which is correct
3) Then I change the master data of the WBS-element by setting the Profit Center attribute value to 8068
4) I run the Attribute Change Run
5) Then i load a flat file again, which also contains WBS-element RD.00753.02.01
6) The master data attribute value should now write the value 8068 into the InfoCube. HOWEVER, this is when the evil occurs. BW does not write a PC value of 8068, but it write the value 8060. This is wrong.
Why does BW not take the newest version of the Master Data to performe the attribute value look-up? Or why doesn't BW write the correct Profit Center into the cube?

Hi Ricardo,
The debug via PSA simulation of the update indicates that the CORRECT Profit Center value is to be written into the InfoCube.
However, if I check the contents of the cube (after the load has finished) using the request-id the WRONG Profit Center value is shown. This indicates that the correct Master Data is used, however the update of the Cube is wrong. Why does this happen. the load is of type full-update, so should add a new row in the cube using the value in the data from the UR.

Hi,
The objects you are mapping in the update rule is deleted by you or someone else while you were creating update rule.
Start RSA1 again so that data targets will be refreshed, check the mapping and try to activate again.

No changes in Update rules even after changes in Communicatin struct

I have made changes to a transfer structure i.e. I added a field in the Communication structure and mapped in the transfer structure. I was expecting the update rule to be deactivated after this. But the Update rule is activated. Because of this I am not able to accomodate my new infoObject in the update rule. What might be the problem?

Hi KK PP,
Update rules are only pertained to Data targets,These helps to map the object to the Infosource using a rule.If you change the transfet structure or communication structure it will not effect update rules.If you add some object to your data target then update rules will be changed.

Problem: Exchange rate in Update rules with DELTA mode

Hi experts,
During the loading since the ODS13BIL towards the CUBE, I use in the update rule the function
"CONVERT_TO_LOCAL_CURRENCY" to convert a currency.
The loading mode is DELTA.
If I modify an invoice in the system source (R/3) for example: "change on" (0CH_ON), during the loading delta since the ODS towards the cube, the exchange rate is reversed (sign), which implies that the values of the ratios during the conversion with the function module " CONVERT_TO_LOCAL_CURRENCY" are false.
How could I resolve this problem?

Thank you for your answer but that still not works: Give erroneous data is corrected but the data which are not erroneous become erroneous.
I think that if I manage to return the field "Exchange misses" (0EXCHG_RATE) nonmodifiable by the DELTA mode, I cross that will resolve the problem.
With what is used following fields in the definition of the ODS, and it is what impacts it on the existing data: "Non cumulative value" et "Cumulative value"
