Problem in creating PDF with InDesign CS5.5:
exporting a file in pdf, setting "Press Quality" or "PDF/X-1a: 2001" and selecting "Crop Marks" and the surplus of xx mm, the elements contained in the MASTER page move from the original position or disappear at random.
Can you help me, please?
Thanks a lot.

• Problems in creating PDFs from Indesign under Snow Leopard

The Acrobat PDF Printer does not work under Snow Leopard anymore.
Adobe gives this alternative:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/509/cpsid_50981.html
After an update to Acrobat 9.1.3 PDFs should now be generated through a new "Save as Adobe PDF" option under the "PDF" button in the system print dialog.
This does not at all work in Adobe Indesign with it's proprietary print dialog. The PDF-Button is only available in the system print dialog (I know it is accessible from within the Indesign print dialog panel, yet clicking on the PDF button and selecting "Save as Adobe PDF" is ignored).
To make things worse: If you follow the advice to delete the Acrobat Printer from the "Print & Fax" panel this deletes the ADPDF9.PPD from the Library/PPD folder! You even cannot produce .ps files and distill them manually. Fortunately I was able to restore the ADPDF9.PPD from a backup.
This is really annoying: How can Adobe state everything works fine under Snow Leopard if you are not able to create PDFs any more? Or did I miss something?

Hi.
make this.
1. Go to the Apple> System Preferences...
2. Open the "Print & Fax" preference panel.
3. Select the Printing tab, to get to the printers list.
4. Select the printer "Adobe PDF 9.0".
5. Click the options and supplies button.
6. Choose the Drive.
Now I have reinstalled Leopard. but first like a Drive I have listed only a "Generic Printer".
I tried to reassign it ADPDF9.PPD but is not recognized and automatically resets to a generic printer.
So after some tests that I have found here
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/509/cpsid_50981.html
I have reinstall leopard
This has been my problem.

• How do I create the highest quality pdfs with InDesign CS5 and Acrobat Pro 9? New settings needed?

I sent a lot of jobs to printing companies by sending them high-res proofs on very large, multiple page jobs with lots of photos and graphics. Many companies are requesting that I just send pdfs. I just upgraded to Windows 7 and CS5. I used to have some special settings in my older Acrobat Distiller and InDesign which have been lost. They gave a much better result that what I seem to be getting from the "Press Quality" setting for pdf's. Does anyone have an excellent list of settings that can used to improve the quality of pdf's? I don't know if this is a combination of settings in both InDesign itself, as well as in Acrobat Distiller, or if the settings in one program will solve this. I have a job pending that needs improvement in the pdf quality. Thank you.

Thanks Peter. My last post was specific to using the Print Booklet feature (which is now solved thanks to your help). But this is related to creating high-res pdfs in general that go to printing companies, and being used for sending high-res proofs to clients. In general I don't need to set up printer spreads for my jobs (just for the one I asked about in my other post), but I used to have some specific settings that a printing company supplied me with to give the highest res pdf output possible. Those settings did in fact give a better result than the Press Quality settings built into my Adobe programs. I have had printers over the years request that I create a postscript file, then use distiller (using the settings they supplied) and I got an excellent result. After getting a new computer, Windows 7 and new CS5 and Acrobat Pro 9 upgrade, all of these settings were lost. I have notes on the settings from a couple of years ago, but they don't seem to apply to the CS5 programs in every given area and I feel like there may be just a couple of boxes that either should or shouldn't be checked that I'm missing now.
I understand that this is very specific information, and I may just need to go with the Press Quality settings. The printing company that gave me that great info a while back is no longer in business and other printing companies I have checked with won't spend that kind of time with me (or maybe they don't know anything other than using the Print Quality setting). Maybe within the CS5 program now, the quality of this setting has been improved more than I realize yet. Again, I'm new to CS5 and am just trying to get everything back to the way I used to have things running, and trying to get the best results possible.
Thanks again!

• Problems making a PDF from Indesign CS5

Hi friends. I have recently switched to CS5 and I find that I usually need to close the program and then reopen it before I can make a PDF. It says it is working in the background but all it does is spin without creating the PDF. Anyone else having this problem?
TED

I have been reading this thread and am very confused about the assertion that somehow a problem encountered in the initial release of InDesign 7 will require any user "to pay more to get a fix!" There is no known fix at this time, for free for for any charge. And Adobe does not charge anything extra for the dot releases with the fixes for problems reported by users or discovered internally.
If someone on this thread really believes that they were given that type of misinformation by someone at Adobe, please contact me off-forum (click on my name for my e-mail address) with particulars (when and who told exactly what with regards to obtaining a "fix") and I will gladly follow-up on this ASAP.
BTW, contrary to assertions made here, yes, testing was done with PDF export both internally within Adobe and with a reasonably large group of pre-release external testers. The problem did not come up even with very complex InDesign documents hundreds of pages long. That doesn't mean that there isn't some problem that really needs to get resolved ASAP, but rather, despite attempts to provide wide test coverage, there are circumstances (including user-specific configurations, drivers, OS versions, etc.) that simply cannot be unmasked until literally thousands of users get their hands on the software. Adobe makes the best effort to respond to these issues as quickly as possible of course trying to make sure that any "fix" doesn't break other features.
- Dov
PS: Update - at least one beta tester did in fact see this problem but the InDesign team wasn't able to reproduce the problem at that time. We will make sure that they are very aware that the problem, if not easily reproducible in our labs, is very real and needs fixing ASAP.

• Possible to create medium res .pdf file with InDesign CS5?

Hello,
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to create a medium res .pdf file with InDesign CS5?
I'm working with a client and have been sending him both high res and low res files of a catalog project. High res .pdf is 12.8MB and low res is 1.2MB. He is asking whether I can create something in between the two, say somewhere around 6 to 8 MB.
Any insight would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Tania

PDFs do not have a resolution. The graphics within do, however..
Look at the downsampling settings and experiment until you get what you want.

• Create unlimited folios today with InDesign CS5 and 5.5!

Adobe's official statement
http://blogs.adobe.com/digitalpublishing/2011/10/create-unlimited-folios-today-with-indesi gn-cs5-5.html
Did you know…
Customers with InDesign CS5 and CS5.5 can now create an unlimited number of .folio files for no additional charge.
You already know that InDesign CS5 and CS5.5 integrate with Adobe Digital Publishing Suite to allow customers to publish apps to tablet devices such as the iPad, Xoom and PlayBook. But for InDesign CS5 and CS5.5 customers who are interested in creating content for tablet devices but are not yet customers, it is now easier than ever to try digital publishing before making the financial investment in the Digital Publishing Suite solution that meets your needs.
InDesign CS5 and CS5.5 customers can now:
Create an unlimited number of .folio files in InDesign
Preview them on Adobe Content Viewer – including interactivity – to see how they will render when published to a tablet device
Share them with colleagues or clients on a 1:1 basis via the Adobe Content Viewer
Further, customers can now access the Folio Producer Service in the Digital Publishing Suite with a valid Adobe ID to manage and edit their .folio files. All of this can be done before purchasing Digital Publishing Suite.
If you are interested in learning how to create an App directly from InDesign CS5 or CS5.5, without writing code or depending on a developer, feel free to try it. You can pitch ideas to your client or your boss; or you can build a portfolio of your work and preview it on a tablet device. Practice makes perfect, and with an unlimited number of .folios, you can practice as much as you want! When you’re ready to publish to an app store, you can select the Digital Publishing Suite solution that is right for you.

I'm sorry EvBurk, what you want is intended not to work.
All Adobe's promotional material concerning InDesign and Digital Publishing (including the above "official statement") carefully uses verbs like "create" or "produce". But they never mention "distribute" or "spread", without explicitly referring to their exclusive hosting services. The whole Folio thing (in contrast to the former "issue" format) revolves around not giving you any chance of physically exporting, managing or owing the folio file itself. It's always somewhere on Adobe's or Apple's servers, or on your iPad, which is also as shut as a vault. So there's no way to export a folio file and toss it around like a pdf or jpeg. All you can do (without a paid distribution) is "share" your folio with some others, under the idea of "testing" and "reviewing". But this can be a cumbersome method. And even when paid (for the app), it's still difficult to distribute it outside Apple's or Android's market.
More than a year ago (in the middle of the Flash-on-iOS debate) Adobe users, developers, bloggers, and evangelists heavily criticized Apple's "walled garden". Adobe literally stated "We Love Apple - What we don't love is anybody taking away your freedom to choose what you create, how you create it, and what you experience on the web." Well, you could say now: "I love Adobe, but what I don't love is Adobe taking away my freedom to own my files, and distribute them on my own terms." They let us create, but not spread our ideas. It's like giving you a typewriter and copier, that only works with Adobe stock paper. Like giving you a voice and an instrument, but only allowing you to sing and play in some walled gardens (dress code: Apple ID) or secluded shed (invitation only).
I really wonder why they so fiercely protect 'their' Folio file. Why do they either have to be "under protection" or be turned into apps? I understand why Apple wants and needs to curate apps, but they don't mind me spreading my own ePubs, mp3 or jpegs. Why doesn't Adobe let me put my folio's on my own server, or send them off to someone with my own preferred service? The Content Viewer could easily be an Acrobat-like reader and let the iPad open folio's (by web links or mail enclosures) into it. If I see how many questions, worries, and problems creators and users have due to this whole closed technique and business, it would be easier to just let go and see what happens. Is it money? Of course it is. But my guess is that Adobe would eventually benefit more from it.
So I hope Adobe declares the Folio as an "open" standard soon, but they're definitely not in that stage. Maybe the specification of the file format just isn't ready yet. Maybe some managers need to remember again how to "Spread the Love"...

• Why does black turn grey when creating a pdf from InDesign CS5??

Why do blacks turn to grey when I create/export a pdf from InDesign CS5?

Unfortunately, things like this are rarely glitchy little programming errors but deep, by-design, problems with using colour management. Usually you are getting exactly what you asked for, just not what you want, and the more colour management options there are, the more likely this is.
There are many possible causes, but one of the easiest to do is and hardest to spot is applying a CMYK profile in InDesign export, and a different one through Photoshop settings. This is actually demanding that colours be converted for the worst! Since your print workflow will be different, a work-around of rich black is likely to make things worse.
So the first thing to check is whether the colours you indended made it to the PDF, indeed. Output Preview is the first tool to use (as well as inspecting plates, you can hover over points to check the colour mix).
Also, go to your PDF export under the "Output" tab which includes colour and PDF/X. Either send a screen shot, or read off all of the the settings there.

• Illustrator cs2 creates pdf with anomalies

I have Illustrator cs2 (12.0.1) and I create pdfs with it and send these to my clients for proofing. When I view the pdf in acrobat standard 6 it looks fine. When my sales people and clients view it in reader 8 they get a color break down that is incorrect. For example they see a color that should not be there (in the pdf below it is the blue cyan in the logo). So I need to figure out how to fix this problem. Also it does not happen on every pdf.
here is a link to a pdf
www.ebfchurch.org/usb3.pdf
In the link is a pdf that has a problem, and a jpeg to show what it should look like.
When I save the pdf I have tried turning illustrator off ill. editing capabilities and saved as a V.7 pdf. Not sure what else to try besides making the logo a jpg. Would upgrading to reader 8 help? Would this add that to my selections in illustrator?
The other anomalies are I's and some lines becoming a dotted line. This one is rarer and is easy to fix (somewhat). I simply rotate the object by a super small portion that no one would notice.
Thanks for any help.

Most likely some color separation or transparency flattening thing. Could also be the order of your groups/ shapes. Just hard to tell. For testing, I would save a PDF and do a preflight check in Acrobat or other such tool. This usually reveals any problematic stuff...

• PDF of InDesign CS5.5 has text drift in a table

In InDesign CS5.5 I have a large table (36 rows, 17 columns). The content is prices, right-aligned, two decimal places.
When I export as a PDF, the numbers slowly shift, moving top to bottom, either to the left or right (this happens on many (but not all) different pages), for 20-25 rows, at which point the positioning is corrected. Total deviation from row 1 until the correction varies, from 0.0067 inches to 0.0109 inches.
This happens only when exporting a PDF from InDesign (CS5.5). If I print from the .indd the problem is not there. If I print a .ps and use Distiller, the resulting PDF is fine.
All cells have the same settings as far as padding, tabs, type size.
I'll post this in the InDesign forums as well.

Steve, I don't seem to be able to move this back -- missing some privileges I think. This was a cross-post -- already in the ID forum -- and he was hoping maybe someone in Acrobat had more ideas. Can you move it back again?

• Why i can't create PDF with right format by LiveCycle?

Hello,
As we know that PDF format has four sections, the header, object body, cross-reference table and trailer.
But after I create a PDF by Adobe LiveCycle, and open it by UltraEdit or Notepad, I cannot find the cross-reference table and some objects, “trailer” word either .
I try to download several PDF files by follow link:
https://my.adobeconnect.com/_a295153/p10077996/?launcher=false&fcsContent=true&pbMode=norm al ,
and open them as the same way as before, it was the normal format I learn.
So, why my PDF is not the right format? And how can I create PDF with right format?
Thank you a lot!
Ellie

Adobe LiveCycle Designer makes XFA forms - a thin PDF wrapper around XML, no useful PDF page objects. Still, they are valid PDF. Like any PDF, you might not find a trailer or xref if a cross reference stream is used. See ISO 3200-1 7.5.8 "Cross-Reference Streams".

• Problem while creating xml with cdata section

Hi,
I am facing problem while creating xml with cdata section in it. I am using Oracle 10.1.0.4.0 I am writing a stored procedure which accepts a set of input parameters and creates a xml document from them. The code snippet is as follows:
select xmlelement("DOCUMENTS",
xmlagg
(xmlelement
("DOCUMENT",
xmlforest
(m.document_name_txt as "DOCUMENT_NAME_TXT",
m.document_type_cd as "DOCUMENT_TYPE_CD",
'<![cdata[' || m.document_clob_data || ']]>' as "DOCUMENT_CLOB_DATA"
) from table(cast(msg_clob_data_arr as DOCUMENT_CLOB_TBL))m;
msg_clob_data_arr is an input parameter to procedure and DOCUMENT_CLOB_TBL is a pl/sql table of an object containing 3 attributes: first 2 being varchar2 and the 3rd one as CLOB. The xml document this query is generating is as follows:
<DOCUMENTS>
<DOCUMENT>
<DOCUMENT_NAME_TXT>TestName</DOCUMENT_NAME_TXT>
<DOCUMENT_TYPE_CD>BLOB</DOCUMENT_TYPE_CD>
<DOCUMENT_CLOB_DATA>

</DOCUMENT_CLOB_DATA>
</DOCUMENT>
</DOCUMENTS>
The problem is instead of <![cdata[....]]> xmlforest query is encoding everything to give < for cdata tag. How can I overcome this? Please help.
