  • Problem: KT3 Ultra, Maxtor HD, and PCI Bus Mastering

    Hello, and thanks for taking the time to read this plea for help.  I have a KT3 Ultra motherboard with an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ processor and a Maxtor D740X (MAXTOR 6L080J4) 80 GB hard drive that I purchased back in March and originally used on my old computer with no difficulty.
    Unfortunately, on my KT3 Ultra, if I enable PCI Bus Mastering in the BIOS, the system refuses to boot from the hard drive.  It boots fine if PCI Bus Mastering is turned off, but I strongly suspect that I am not getting full UDMA-class throughput with PCI Bus Mastering turned off, which I desperately need because I want to do video capturing with my ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon card.  Also, the HD LED does not light up disk activity on that hard disk.  I know that the HD LED works and is hooked up correctly because it lights up to show activity on a hard disk I have installed on the second IDE channel.  I have tried hooking the 80 GB drive to the IDE RAID ports, but the system hangs in the IDE RAID BIOS and will not boot.
    This week, I also tried backing up, wiping the HD clean, and running the PowerMax diagnostic programs, all of which said the HD was operating perfectly.
    With PCI Bus Mastering on, I am able to boot from a CD ROM and at least get into my Linux system, but I can't boot into Windoze 98 that way.
    I am using the LILO boot loader, but I have also wiped it off with "fdisk /mbr" and tried to boot with PCI Bus Mastering turned on -- no dice there either.
    I've fiddled with every relevant BIOS setting and searched in vain for an answer.  Something tells me that the UDMA interface on the hard drive may be defective -- the hard drive was an open box special.
    Any help that anyone can provide would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Will Snyder

    Hi,
    I have KT3 Ultra ARU and Maxtor D740x 60GB too. I have no problem enabling PCI IDE BusMaster. You have done pretty good troubleshooting there and I'm on your back to say it's the harddisk's fault.
    Have you tried other hard drive? Have you tried with other IDE cables?
    fyi, UDMA is still enabled without PCI IDE busmaster. But I would suggest you to go claim for a hdd swap instead.

  • HP 3270nr Notebook Memory and Hard Drive

    Wanted to know if anyone out there has tried installing more than 8GB of memory on the 3270nr?  I have tried looking online and contacting HP customer support and was unsuccessful in determining if this notebook could be upgraded to 16GB of memory. I have tried Crucials website as well and they do not have the proper specifications for this notebook.
    Also how many drives do we have to install hard drives on?  I was thinking of installing an SSD but as you know they are expensive.  Wanted to get one to have the OS load from and anything that needs to load ASAP while saving the original HD that came with this notebook.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
    Is it an Envy 17-3270nr ? If yes you can use information from the following link:
       http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/HP+-+Compaq-memory/Envy/Envy+17-3270nr-upgrades.html
    Crucial also shows you the information about SSD. You can buy from them or use the information (including price) to buy elsewhere. Here is its specs:

  • Problem with creating Connection pool and JNDI, driver is not detected

    Hi,
    I have an issue with creating Connection Pool and JNDI.
    I'm using:
    - JDK 1.6
    - OS: Linux(ubuntu 8.10)
    - Netbeans IDE 6.5.1
    - Java EE 5.0
    - Apache Tomcat 6.0.18 Its lib directory contains all necessary jar files for Oracle database driver
    - Oracle 11g Enterprise
    My problem is that the Oracle database driver is not detected when I want to create a pool (it works pretty well and is detected without any problem when I create ordinary connection by DriverManager)
    Therefore after running:
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
    Context context = (Context)ic.lookup("java:comp/env");
    DataSource dataSource = (DataSource)context.lookup("jdbc/oracle11g");
    Connection connection = dataSource.getConnection();and right after dataSource.getConnection() I have the following exception:

    As many suggest, I also tried to put context directly in the server.xml (instead of my application context) and referencing it by <ResourceLink /> inside my application context but it didn't work and instead it gave me the following message:
    org.apache.tomcat.dbcp.dbcp.SQLNestedException: Cannot create JDBC driver of class '   ' for connect URL 'null'
    Has anyone succeeded in creating a connection pool with JNDI by using Tomcat 6 or higher ? If yes, could kindly explain about the applied method.
    Regards,

    Hello again,
    Finally I managed to run my application also with Tomcat 6.0.18. There was only two lines that had to be modified
    in the context.xml file (the context of my application project and not server's)
    Instead of writing
    <Context antiJARLocking="true" path="/WebApplication2">
        type="javax.sql.DataSource"
        factory="org.apache.tomcat.dbcp.dbcp.BasicDataSourceFactory"
    </Context>we had to write:
    <Context antiJARLocking="true" path="/WebApplication2">
        type="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource"
        factory="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSourceFactory"
    </Context>- No modification was needed to be done at server level (niether server.xml nor server context.xml)
    - I just added the ojdbc6.jar in $CATALINA_HOME/lib (I didn't even need to add it in WEB-INF/lib of my project)
    - The servlet used to do the test was the same that I presented in my precedent post.
    For those who have encountered my problem and are interested in the format of the web.xml and context.xml
    with Tomcat 6.0, you can find them below:
    Oracle server: Oracle 11g Enterprise
    Tomcat server version: 6.0.18
    Oracle driver: ojdbc.jar
    IDE: Netbeans 6.5.1
    The context.xml file of the web application

  • Problem with a j2se program and mysql driver

    Hi,
    We are developing an application which needs accessing to a mysql database. I have packed the application in a .jar. and inside the jar I have created a folder lib. And inside that folder I have put mysql driver.
    As the same way, I have been reading in SDN forum, I have edited manifiest file and I have writen this:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Sealed: true
    Class-Path: lib/mysql-connector-java-5.0.4-bin.jar
    Main-Class: package1.Main
    When I introduce this command java -jar program1.jar, the jvm says this:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.mysql.jdbc.Driver
    at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:200)
    at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method)

    at java.lang.Class.forName0(Native Method)
    at java.lang.Class.forName(Class.java:164)
    I know when I use java -jar, classpath system variable doesn't mind. But even this variable is set up properly. If you could help me it would be great. I'm getting stuck with this.
    Thanks in advance.

    I believe modules or OSGi are supposed to address this, but executable JARs do not today.

  • Problems with disk utility, diskimagemounter, and CD drive...?

    I have three problems that seem, at least tangentially, related:
    My CD drive won't open from the us - I drag a disk to the trash, or click the eject icon, and nothing happens physically - the disk disappears from the desktop and the filesystem but the drive remains disturbingly nonchalant.
    Disk Utility won't open - it opens, then sits there spinning supposedly looking up the disks; but force quit simple closes the window and makes the related two tasks disappear from the AM - the icon remains in the dock.
    DiskImageMounter does not work - it will scan and verify a disk image, but it freezes on the 'Attaching' stage.
    I've refreshed my computer multiple times, but these problems have remaind - even through a complete 7-way write... so I am puzzled as to what I can do about it. It is quite annoying to open up Toast just to mount a DMG.

    Hi thmayr!
    Although the original instructions were for a 700 MB disc, perhaps the article linked to below, could be helpful.
    From "Macworld" Feb 2005 issue p.90 Link To Article. Scroll to the second tip on the page: "Unix Tip of the Month: Utilize Extra Space on CD-Rs".
    Content:
    Create a new folder in the Finder.
    Drag everything you want to burn, up to 700 MB, into the folder.
    Open Terminal and type cd ~/Desktop
    Press the Enter key. This changes Terminal's active directory to your user's Desktop folder.
    Type hdiutil makehybrid -o myburn.iso (There's a space after the o in iso, and myburn can be any name you choose) DON'T press Enter
    Switch to the "Finder"
    Drag & drop the folder you created onto the Terminal window. Terminal should fill in the full path to the folder.
    Press Enter. Enter key will then execute the command.
    What you have done is used the hdiutil Unix command to create a hybrid disk image named myburn.iso (you can choose whatever name you like, in place of myburn, but use iso for the extension.
    You should see the message "Creating hybrid image" in your Terminal window, as well as an indication of the task's progress.
    When finished, you should see a disk image called myburn.iso on your Desktop.
    You can use Disk Utility to burn this image, or you can type
    hdiutil burn ~/Desktop/myburn.iso in Terminal
    Insert a blank CD-R when prompted, and then just wait until it's done.

  • Problem with Viewsonic VX2025 display and PowerPC G5

    I recently switched from an old G4 tower to a less-old G5 tower with dual 2GHz processor and a GeForce 6600LE graphics card. The monitor I was using with the G4 is a Viewsonic VX2025, and they worked flawlessly together. Not so much for the G5. The monitor, which is connected via one of the two DVI ports on the G5, works when the computer is started cold. However, after a period of inactivity or sleep, the monitor goes black and will not receive a signal. The power to the monitor remains on, but the light on the monitor is yellow. If I tap the keyboard or click the mouse I can hear the tower powering up, and my mouse will flash its light, but the monitor will remain black. At this point I will have to power down via the power button. Occasionally, however, the G5 will not power down and I'll have to disconnect the power source. At this point turning the computer back on will result in the same black monitor screen unless I wait at least 20 minutes to turn it back on. In which case, everything will work fine as long as it doesn't go to sleep.
    I've tried re-seating the power cord for the monitor, and checking the connections.
    Now, I've switched to an old VGA monitor that I dug up from the garage with a DVI adaptor. This system works fine and I've had no problems. However, the monitor quality isn't very good and I need to figure out a way to get the G5 working with my Viewsonic. Any suggestions?

    I have a Power MacG5 behaving exactly the same way with a large Westinghouse (LCM.22W) LCD Monitor. The problems began when I decided to enable the sleep function to save electricity. For years it worked fine and the sleep problems into an unwakable black screen started on and off with me doing the same to remedy it: restarting or unplugging and replugging the DVI 400 cable (Monster Digital Video)from the CPU DVI port. Now nothing works as a remedy. I have no alternate monitor to use to access the CPU. Now when I reseat the DVI cable the monitor says check connections indicating it isn't hooked up to a DVI output video source even though it is.
    I'm starting to wonder if the problem is the G5 video card in the CPU and not the cable or the monitor since I'm not the only one who has experienced the problem with a large monitor when the computer goes to sleep and the monitor shuts down.

  • When MagSafe unplugged, the external display and laptop need to be restart

    Whenever I unplug my MagSafe when using dual-monitors, my MacBook and External monitor need to turned off/restarted. Why is this?

    So, you're saying that when you disconnect the power cord (MagSafe) BOTH of your displays either go completely dark while the MacBook is still running or freeze (static image, nothing gets updated) or begin to display distorted video. Then when the displays enter one of these states they remain dysfunctional until you power cycle each one (which would mean that for the MacBook's display you'd have to restart the MacBook). Otherwise, are you suggesting that your MacBook crashes when you disconnect the MagSafe? Also, do you have to reconnect the MagSafe before you can restart the displays (if this is the case, then are you sure that your battery just isn't "dead")?
    What type of connector are you using for the external display? Is it Mini DisplayPort, DVI, or VGA? If DVI, is it dual-link?
    In any case, without additional details I'd guess that you have a grounding problem between your external display and the MacBook. This shouldn't happen unless there is a problem with your video cables or adapters or with the ports on either the MacBook or your external display. Have you tried connecting the 3.5mm audio output on your MacBook to an audio input on the external display (as a test to provide another grounding path)? Also, is your MacBook power supply plugged into the same AC outlet as is your external display?
    I guess the MagSafe connector could also be at fault if it is shorting to ground when you remove it from the port on the MacBook. What happens if you disconnect the power supply directly from the AC plug and then disconnect the MagSafe?
    Lastly, is there any chance that you are getting a static electric discharge when you touch the MacBook to remove the MagSafe connector?

  • Chart display and camera trigger

    Hello,
    I’m new to Labview and using it for my thesis to acquire data and initiate the image capturing of a camera. But I came across some problems with the data display and camera trigger, if anyone could offer some advice
    My Hardware consists of a MC-USB-2404-UI DAQ-device (including MCCdaq-Drivers with Ulx-Libary and an extra LV vi pallet), a thermocouple type K and a TEMATEC pressure sensor MAP350-S / F (0-10V/0(4)-20mA). Since the DAQ-device supplies itself through USB with just 5V Power, I connected the pressure sensor in series with an additional 10V power supply unit.
    The VI that I am constructing should read the measured values (pressure and temperature) and display them in a chart and on a numerical indicator. Above 200°C and 200bar the data logging should be manually started and a high-speed camera simultaneously triggered. Apart from the camera trigger, the VI is almost complete except for a few problems with measuring the value display.
    Here are my problems:
    1) How can I initiate the camera simultaneously with the data logging? Since the hs camera will capture more than 1000fps, I would restrict the image acquisition to a simple trigger that initiates the capturing. The appropriate VI’s IMAQ and IMAQdmx are already available. Should I create a new loop and connect it to my case-structure through a Rendezvous?  And what kind of vi’s do I need for a simple trigger?
    2) Also I couldn’t figure out how to convert 1D-Array of Waveform to DBL or at least how to connect the data wire with a numerical indicator. The indicator is crucial for the manual start of the data logging.
    3) Another problem is with the chart display. As soon as I start the data logging, the graph disappears and the chart displays only n-samples of the currant loop pass. The enlargement of the chart length history brings no improvement. Before the data logging is started the charts are showing the all points from the start. So what changes when I Press “Aufnahme starten” (start acquisition)?
    Any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Hello annaei,
    thanks for your quik help... the numeric indicator is now implemented. thanks to you.
    Explaination:
    1) I have construkted an experimental vessel, which builds up pressure through a stamp. There is a heating jacket around it and on the bottom is a sight glass to capture the intirior with a highspeed camera. The starting conditions for the experiment are 200bar and 200°C. So I will need to monitor the current state of the intirior to know when i can start the actual data logging. With the data logging i want to start my image acquisition silmutaneasly.
    3) For the Chart problem i attachted two pictures... After experimenting with the sample clock, reading vi and timing of the loop, i figured out that the greatest influence is the loop timing.
    At 250ms (wait Xms multiple for loop pass) there is all data displayed even if i press the data logging button. At 100ms i was logging the data from 5s on and as one can see in the picture below the graph disappears after 28s. At 20ms loop pass interval the graph disappears randomly and with the data logging activated it is just a single point displayed.
    In general the 250ms loop pass interval is a totally suitable solution for me, but i just can't help the feeling that the problem is not resolved. And i would like to know what i am doing wrong or what i could do better.
    Thanks, Tobi.

  • Problems with Ethernet controller and PCI device driver on Satellite L30-10X

    Hellow!
    Sorry for my bad English, I'm from Russia.
    Just few days ago I bought Satellite L30-10X with W Vista on board. My opinion, that this OS does't very good on this computer, so I install W XP.
    I have some problems with drivers. At first, I dont know what model I have:PSL30 or PSL33? I download all drivers for both models. But, after installation, computer doen't find drivers for Ethernet controller and PCI device...

    Hi
    Satellite L30-10X belongs to the PSL33E series. This number can be found on the label placed on the bottom of the unit!
    You have to choose this number from the driver download form to get the compatible XP drivers.
    I dont know why you are not able to install the LAN driver. Ive got the same notebook with Vista and Ive installed the XP and all drivers run fine.
    I assume you have installed the drivers in wrong order. Please take the look in the Toshiba installation instruction txt file. In this order you have to install the driver! Its important.
    I think you should install the XP again to ensure the clean registry and then download and install the compatible XP drivers like mentioned in the installation instruction file.
    Good luck

    The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
    Kindly sugest me the what to do

    Hello rajeevkumar30
    As I understand it you reinstalled Windows XP and now you have devices that are not being installed correctly? I would suggest that you visit the Compaq Presario V2000 CTO Notebook PC Drivers page and ensure that ALL your drivers and software are up to date. I would start with any BIOS and Firmware updates first than ensure your Drivers are up to date before moving on to your software.
    As these are the drivers designed for your system this should resolve your issue. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

    Do Not post stuff about how Airplay doesnt work, because i dont have Apple TV and dont need to hear about it.

    If you have an external drive equal to or larger than your internal HD, clone your internal to it with either Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. Test the clone to make sure it's bootable. Then upgrade either one. Try it out first.

  • Out of Frequency Problem with Apple Multiple Scan 720 Display and Mac mini

    If a resolution with a horizontal and/or vertical frequency not compatible with your display, in this case an Apple Multiple Scan 720 Display, is selected in the Display preference pane of the Mac OS X 10.4.10 system running on a Mac mini (Early '06), you will recieve a message on your screen about being "out of frequency" and the power management feature will shut down and restart your display repeatedly. The following solution should restore your display to proper function. It may apply to other displays and Macintoshes running Mac OS X, but it has only been tested specially on this setup.
    1. Shut down the Mac mini with the power button (press and hold for 5 seconds)
    2. Start the computer up with the Mac mini Mac OS X Install Disc 1 (press the power button, insert the disc, hold the C key down until the progress bar starts up)
    3. Click on the language, then select Utilities > Terminal...
    4. Type "cd /" and return
    5. Type "cd Volumes" and return
    6. Type "cd your hard drive name" and return (you need to enclose the hard drive name in double quotes if more than one word)
    7. Type "cd Library" and return
    8. Type "cd Preferences" and return
    9. Type "rm com.apple.windowserver.plist" and return
    10. Type "exit" and return
    11. Quit Terminal
    12. Select Utilities > Startup Disc...
    13. Select the OS on the hard drive and click on Restart button, holding down the Shift key until the progress bar starts.
    14. Log in to the account that had the display problem in Safe Boot mode
    15. In System Preferences select Display, select a resolution with the appropriate frequency, 60 Hz should be fine, then close System Preferences
    16. Restart the computer, log in to the account normally, and the display should be functioning properly.
    DO NOT SELECT AN INAPPROPRIATE RESOLUTION/FREQUENCY FOR YOUR DISPLAY IN THE DISPLAY PREFERENCE PANE! BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID!
    Mac mini (Early '06)   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Apple Multiple Scan 720 Display
    Mac mini (Early '06)   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Apple Multiple Scan 720 Display

    Just a correction and an elaboration:
    It should be Startup Disk... with a k, not a c.
    Both the resolution and the frequency must be appropriate for your display to work properly. Check your documentation or the manual information available on your display for the appropriate resolutions/frequencies. Evidently the Apple Multiple Scan 720 Display is considered so old that no allowance was made for it in the Display preference pane of Mac OS X 10.4.10.
