Problem in Instalation of Oracle8i on Linux
Hi,
I hav downloaded the oracle8i from linux from oracle site.
Performed all the pre-configuration steps of
set env variables like PATH, ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID and LD_ASSUME_KERNEL after connecting as oracle.
made for mount points namely /u01, /u02, /u03, /u04
made users (oinstall and oracle) and groups (oinstall, dba, etc)
as root user executed the command xhost +
after doing all this when I run the script /runInstaller it does not displays OUI.
It does not give any error, and shows a grey coloured rectangular box, and that is it.
jre process runs in the background taking more than 95% of CPU time.
plz help me on this. thanx-a-ton in adavnce.
regards,
Saket Maheshwary
I'm not an expert but i had the same problem when I untarred the download file and burned a CD in windows. I would suggest that you put the tar file on a CD and untar it in unix/linux

Problem with Installing the Oracle8i PO into Windows ME
I think I have the same problem as some of you had. Recently, I bought the Oracle Book and it has 3 discs: 1 for Oracle Developer 6 for Win 95 or 98, 1 for Oracle 8i PO (release 8.1.5) for Win 95, also 1 for Win 98.
My computer had no problem when I installed the Or. Developer. However, my computer won't allow me to install the Oracle 8i PO Win 98 disc. Instead of that, I have no problem of installing the Oracle 8i PO Win 95 disc. After I installed the Win 95 disc with all correct configuration according to the instructions, I can not CONNECT to the database. So, is this mean the Windows ME is compatible with the Win 95 disc? Or my computer is "screw up"? Because I know Win Me is very much the same as Win 98. If I installed the Win 98 disc, it should be ok. Anyway, I installed the Win 95 disc successful, but can not CONNECT.
So if anyone can help me out, or need a specific error message, I will post up next time. For now, I think I already gave you guys a "head-ache"... sorry.... Thanks all! Wait for your helps guys! What drivers are you attempting to install?

Because my computer's hard disk does not have enough space, I install the Guest OS Oracle Linux 6.2 into a external hard disk. But its speed is very slow. It has taken more than 24 hours by now, but still don't finish installing Oracle Linux 6.2.
Do any folk understand what's going on ? Is there any problem on Oracle Linux 6.2 ?user8860348 wrote:

Installing Developer 6i on Linux
Hi! I'm having problems to install Developer 6i on Linux. I'm using windowmaker.
I follow the instructions from installation guide, but I don't know how do I do to execute the installation program.
I windows' installations exist commonly a SETUP.exe or ORAINST.exe program. But in Linux I don't found these programs.I have tried to start installer developer 6i on linux with orainst/orainst. But it didn't work. the message is "bad interpreter: No such file or directory".
What should i do to start the installer? based on manual installation, it should be easy. But why it failed? -
