I have installed oracle 10g express on windows 8.
Said that XE 10g is not certified for Windows 8 (Oracle® Database Express Edition), please post the exact commands you executed and error(s) you got.
Did you insert data in that table ? and did you select from the same session, or another one ? if another one, did you commit after inserting ?

It replied connection refused.

10g Express Edition on Windows 2008 Enterprise R2 x64 with Active Directory
I have successfully installed the 10g Express Edition on Windows 2008 Ent. r2 x64 with Microsoft Active Directory Domain Controller but i could not be able to run http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
Although i have run the http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex on my another Windows 2008 R2 x64 ant WITHOUT Active Directory Domain Controller Role.
i think its related with AD Domain server role of my server, because i run that on same config and operation without Active Directory Domain Controller role.
Can anyone help about this issue?
thanks in advanceI have experienced the same problem - running 10g Express on a Win 2008 (32-bit). When not being a Domain controller, the install was fine. When installing after the server had been given the Domain Controller role (+the required DNS), it failed. NO FIREWALLS are involved on the server. Seems like Oracle Express has problems being installed in this kind of environment - independent of x32 or x64 bit OS.

I have a problem with oracle 10g express edition
Hello,
I have just installed oracle 10g express edition and I have a problem with the script editor. I can write anything in the window that appears below buttons undo, redo and find, It is like disabled. I use windows XP, Firefox 2.0 ( I have also tried with Iexplorer and It does not work either). I have javascript enabled.
anyone knows what is the problem?
Later,I have installed it in a virtual machine of Windows 2003 Server and It works well but I`d rather use it in my Microsoft XP
Thank you very much
Fernando MartínezIt looks like you can fix this if you replace the codearea.xbl.xml and codearea.iframe.html files in the
/i/editor folder with files from an Apex 2.2.1 installation - such as the one on apex.oracle.com.
Since I don't know what the licensing implications are, I will let you figure out the details. -
Login problem with Oracle 10g Express Edition as system user
I have installed Oracle Database 10g Express Edition, but I can not login inside. I use the following:
user: system
password: ****** the password witch I put during the installation.
As I click Login, the page returns to the same state and wants username and password again. As I write wrong user and pass it yields an error, as I write the right user and pass it returns to the same page again. I used uppercase for system and lower case, but the problem goes on. I read the documentation, but I didn't find a solution.
Eventully I may be miss something. Can anyone help me?Hi,
Are you try to connect sys user on sql command prompt and alter system user password then try to connect

user628210hi again. first a have to apologize. i have oracle
database express edition 10g from school,so i dont
have registered version. When I said 'register' I didn't mean have it licensed, Oracle XE doesn't require any kind of license registration, it is free. By registering it I meant a technical issue. Once the database is started it tries to contact the listener at 1521 port, once contacted the oracle instance registers itself against it, and if it is successful you will have the administrator's page initialized and ready to access at the default 8080 port.
when i type SQL commands, command line wrote me
SP2-0734:unknown command beginning ENTERED COMMAND
Could you please specify which command did you try to enter?
>
and when i open RUN DATABASE, command line wrote
C:\OracleDatabase\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN
net started OracleServiceXE - system error 5, accessdenied
What do you mean with 'RUN DATABASE'?

Arjantake a look at "Forum: Oracle Database 10g Express Edition" with this url:
Oracle Database Express Edition (XE)
there is many threads about XE installation.
what do you mean by "I can't acces": via the local url "http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex/" ?
So verify first if your setup has finished correctly; for example, does database files were created in C:\oraclexe\oradata\XE ?
Or is there any other socket server running on 8080 ... -

What can I do.Hello,
I need to install "Oracle database 10g Express Edition" with different database name example dev but it is taking
default name that is XE and there is no option come during installation where i can put the name of database as per my desire.First, note that you can't install more than one instance of XE per server. Changing the instance name won't help you with that.
As you've already found out, the installer always creates a database instance with default names. That's part of the "Express" concept: As little configuration as necessary to get a Oracle Database installed with just a few clicks. The second advantage is, that you can also simplify the documentation, as you can forget about several aspects when you don't have to configure them...
Since you don't have tools like dbca in XE, your only option would be to rename the database once it's created. There are a few threads on that topic in this forum, e. g. {thread:id=403056}.
But before you start working on that, could you explain why exactly you have to use a different database/instance name?
And also explain why we use "Oracle database 10g Express Edition" instead of Oracle database 10g. what is the meaning of Express Edition. Why and how should we answer why you picked a certain edition? The most likely cause is license costs: XE is available for free, all others are just free as long as you use the OTN license...
For an overview, there is a [url http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/enterprise-edition/comparisons/index.html]Comparison Matrix for Oracle Database Editions.
I'd furthermore ask why you still use 10g XE instead of the current 11g XE?

Download Oracle 10g express edition for window
I want to download Oracle 10g Express Edition, but it seems that this version is replaced by 11g Express version.
Is there any place which I can download 10g Express Edition?
Thank.I think Oracle Corp. has removed 10g XE download because Oracle Corp. is pushing more for 11g now (10g XE was never officially supported but 10.1 and 10.2 Standard/Entreprise Edition are already in extended support mode: 10.2 will be in sustained support mode in July 2013).

Non-English character problem in Oracle 10g Express Edition
Hi There;
I have a table. It's name is INSTITUTION. It has a NUMBER INS_ID and NVARCHAR2(50) INS_NAME . INS_NAME can contain Turkish characters, such as "ğ,ü,ş,ç,ö". According to business logic, there can not be a repetition on the INS_NAME.
User will enter institution name from a textbox in ASP.NET , and I check this name in database from c sharp code, if there is no repetition, we will add this record.
The problem is; when user enter a instition name that contains Turkish character, there is a duplication. If there is a instition name is *"su işleri"* , the both query; SELECT * FROM INSTITUTION WHERE INS_NAME = *'su işleri'*; and SELECT * FROM INSTITUTION WHERE INS_NAME = *'su isleri'*; returns no result, even though there it is.
But if instition name is "oracle corporation" (there is no Turkish character) it query successfully. I have the same problem in Toad for Oracle 11.5.1.2. When I query database from toad SELECT * FROM INSTITUTION, the phrase *"su işleri"* has appeared. But when I query SELECT * FROM INSTITUTION WHERE INS_NAME = *'su işleri'*; , there is again no result.
When I connect oracle database directly and perform the query SELECT * FROM INSTITUTION , the phrase *"su isleri"* (not *"su işleri"* ) has appeared.
Here are the language settings of the database:

Problem with Oracle 10g Express Edition
Hi,
Install OracleXE.exe in Windows 2000, but on having tried to enter the following mistake goes out: http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
It is not possible to show the page
That is what happens
Thank youYou mention the default installation uses port 7777, then you mention that Apache is not used.
Minor correction to your posts:
1) The default installation for APEX uses Apache and defaults to port 7777;
2) The default installation of XE does not include Apache, and the built-in environment defaults to port 8080
Reference is the XE documentation, which supercedes the APEX documentation. That is found at http://www.oracle.com/pls/xe102/homepage
And for clarification, the HTTP service in XE is composed of 2 parts:
- the HTTP listener is handled by the Oracle listener, on the port registered using the "dbms_xdb.sethttpport();" procedure and reported using the "dbms_xpg.gethttpport()" function.
- the HTTP server is primarily in the dbms_epg package. -
