Problem in launching firefox

I have install Solaris 10 on a sparc machine and then installed firefox on it but when i launch firefox on that machine it give *'Gtk warning'*. Can anybody tell me the solution. thank you

On the firefox website (releases.firefox.org, I assume you installed firefox 2.0) there is a 'gtk' version as well as one that does not have 'gtk' in the filename. Try installing the other one.

  • Error when launching Firefox

    Hi; I’m experiencing a problem when launching Firefox . Receive the following message;
    Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at en-gb.start3.mozilla.com
    I’ve removed and reloaded Firefox, but same problem.
    The only thing I can think of that’s changed on the PC is that I’ve renewed & McAfe AntiVirus Plus (which also had to be removed then reloaded).
    Any suggestions as to what’s the problem & how to fix?

    I've tried checking the firewall issue; removed and reinstalled Firefox several time; run multiple anti-virus programs looking for issues; and it still doesn't work. However, today Google Chrome began working as my internet connection; and it works beautifully using Firefox (Go figure!). However, when I again reinstalled the actual Firefox program, it still does not work; so I have once again removed it. I find this very interesting.

  • Every time I launch Firefox it pops up an error stating "Firefox could not install this item because "install.rdf" (provided by the item) is not well-formed or does not exist. Please contact the author about this problem."

    Firefox could not install this item because "install.rdf" (provided by the item) is not well-formed or does not exist. Please contact the author about this problem.
    The statement above is in the pop up error box every time, when I launch Firefox. If I click ok in the box Firefox then opens. How do I fix this initializing/launch problem?

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).<br />
    See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.<br />
    You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.<br />
    You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")<br />

  • I am having (2) problems, 1. When I open Firefox, why do 6 to 8 multiple windows open? 2. I tried to update Flash, and now that window opens every time I launch Firefox with a drop menu asking me to install.

    Problem 1: I launch Firefox and 6 to 8 windows open.
    Problem 2: Every since I tried to update Flash this happens. I have done this 12 times, but it still keeps trying to open.

    I'm having difficulty visualizing what is wrong but try some basic steps first:
    Launch Safari while holding a Shift key - this will start Safari with just your Home page
    If you can see Reset Safari from the Safari menu, try that.
    In addition to downloading and installing Safari again, try reapplying just the Snow Leopard Combo Update: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 There is no need to uninstall Safari first.
    Lastly try deleting Safari's Preferences file: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist

  • I have a problem closing tabs in Firefox v3.6.13. The first tab on the left hand side (ie the page that opens when I launch Firefox) won't close when I click on the red x.

    I can't close the left hand tab except by exiting firefox. When i launch firefox the original tab stays open when I click on the red x, even if I have other tabs open.
    i can alter the website displayed on the left hand tab but it still won't close and leave other more recent tabs open.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Been using Firefox for years, deleted Babylon app & now I can't launch Firefox at all. I've uninstalled & reinstalled Firefox, rebooted, but that didn't solve the problem. Am I condemned to IE?

    On 3/18 I used Firefox to download a translation app called Babylon to my Dell Latitude laptop - running XP Pro. I checked out the app, got all the pop-ups asking me to buy spinoff products & uninstalled Babylon. When I rebooted I couldn't open Firefox.
    I started investigating, came up with a weird Pareto Logic UUS error, fixed that. Unistalled Firefox through the Control Panel. Used IE to again download & install latest Firefox. At the end of installation, the dialog box askes "Lauch Firefox now?" which I checked & clicked the Finish button. Nothing happened. I rebooted & tried to launch Firefox from the Start menu, then from the root .exe - no luck. IE launches fine; I just want my Firefox back!

    i wish i could paste the error message but it is

  • D/L Firefox 7, Flash 10 doesn't launch. Never had this problem w previous Firefox. I'd see error msg "you need to update your Flash, this video won't play".

    The Flash 10 does not launch, Firefox 7 does not recognize this add-on at all. I d/l from Adobe, Flash page:"Installation successful". But Error message still reads "You need to upgrade your Adobe Flash Player to watch this video." I've even temporarily turned off my antivirus before D/L

    There are two different versions of Flash, the '''''ActiveX''''' version for IE and the '''Plugin''' version used by most other browsers.
    1.Download the Flash Plugin version setup file from here: <br />
    [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version]. <br />
    Save it to your Desktop.<br />
    2. Close Firefox using File > Exit <br />
    then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed, <br />
    {XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
    3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
    4. Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    * On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen). <br />

  • Unable to launch firefox above 3.0 after upgrade attempt

    I had firefox 3.0. I tried upgrading when 3.2 came out and was unable to launch firefox after that. For each subsequent revision, I tried to upgrade but always had same problem. It does not give any error message. It just refuses to launch.So I just stopped trying to upgrade and kept using the 3.0. I use an EeePC mini notebook with XP home edition. It functions well with the other browser which I don't like to use. Any suggestion?

    Hello Dieter,
    We have used fully qualified domain name as the server name and all the services have been activated using SIAC_PUBLISH_ALL_INT.
    The notes 808347 and 816973 have already been checked through.The browser prob i have implemented but to no help. Is  there any parameter to be set in the profile parameter maintenance for SNC, I am not sure; its just a wild guess..we are not using portal as of now.
    Thanks For Your Help,

  • I am trying to launch Firefox 9.0.1 on Windows 7 but the application window isnt visible even though there is a firefox.exe process running in task manager.

    I am trying to launch Firefox 9.0.1 on Windows 7 but it isnt working. I try to launch it and the application window does not show. When I look at the task manager and then look at the Applications tab, Firefox isnt listed. If I go to the Processes tab, there is a firefox.exe*32 process listed. Each time I double click the Firefox icon, a new firefox.exe process is spawned but there is never a visible instance of the Firefox application.
    There are no errors in the application logs. I end up just having to kill the processes.
    I tried launching in safe mode by holding down the shift button but the same thing happens.
    Any suggestions on what to try? It has never worked since upgrading from version 8. I tried un-installing and re-installing

    I went through everything mentioned in the link you posed and nothing detailed there resolved the problem.
    The Profile folder didnt exist so I created it. Made sure the perms were good and that it was not read only.
    There are no default folders appearing under the profile folder when I start Firefox.
    I have Firefox installed to my E drive.
    Nothing happens. The process appears in the task manager but no application shows up.
    Cant start it in safe mode, cant run the profile manager.

  • I try to launch firefox get the following message "firefox is already running, but is not resonding. to open a new window, you must first close the existing firefox process, or restart your system" firefox is not running and restart doesn't work

    when I launch firefox get the following message "firefox is already running, but is not resonding. to open a new window, you must first close the existing firefox process, or restart your system" firefox not running and a restart doesn't solve the problem

    Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 12.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
    Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
    *Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
    Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox
    Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • How can I launch firefox on different displays simultaneously without creating profiles for each of them

    On my solaris server, there is an application which, in order to display some information, opens the browser. The server can be accessed thorugh X windows by various users. The issue is that whn firefox is open on one display, it fails to open on another display.
    The resolution for this problem as suggested by a lot of users on various forums is to create different profiles for various firefox instances. However, everytime my application will launch firefox, i will have to invoke it with -P option which will pop up the profile manager. I do not wish to show the pop up for creating profiles:(. Is there some way to allow multilple instances of firefox to run on different displays?

    when you lock the preferences with the mozilla.cfg file in the firefox program folder as it's described in the mozillazine kb article above, it should apply for all users...

  • Gmail sign in problems when using Firefox in Windows 8

    I haven't quite figured out under what circumstances this does or does not happen, but many times when I boot up my new Windows 8 computer, launch Firefox (in 'desktop' mode, not 'metro,' if that makes a difference(, and go to http://gmail.com, I cannot sign in to my gmail account. After entering the username and password, the sign in simply 'hangs' or freezes. There is a sign in progress bar that normally disappears in a blink of the eye, but instead it just stays there, empty, and the sign in process is never completed. Clearing the cache and cookies resolves this problem, but it is annoying to have to do this every time I boot up my computer. Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a known solution?

    Thanks, iamjayakumars. It was clearly something in one particular user account on the computer (there are several, and only one user seemed to have the problem). Since it's a new computer, I just wiped that user from Windows 8 and started from scratch. Problem seems to be solved. So, as your help file suggests, there probably was something in that user profile's setting folder causing issues, and a clean start as a new user (hopefully) resolved it.

    Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
    You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]

    * [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
    [http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

  • Problem in launching sunMC 4.0 Web console

    Does anybody have problem in launching sunMC 4.0 web console from a browser?
    I have installed sunMC 4.0 on a Solaris 10 upgrade server.
    When I type the URL of the sunMC 4.0 server with the default port 8080 I gets the welcome page giving me two options:
    - Launch Web Console
    href='https://172.17.210.96:6789/'>Launch Web Console
    - Launch Java Console
    None of the options works for me.
    Clicking on "Launch Web Console" ends with error page saying "Unable to Connect". Get the same error regardless of browser: Firefox or IE.
    Clicking on "Launch Java Console" gives me "Unable to launch Sun Management Center"
    When clicking on "Details" button I gets
    An error occurred while launching/running the application.

  • When I launch firefox on my wife's computer it comes up "Error Launching Brouser window : no XBL Binding for browser". What does this mean? How do I fix it?

    On my wife's computer, when she tries to launch Firefox in order to connect to the internet, a window pops up that says "Error launching browser window: no XBL binding for the browser. How do I fix this? I am not very computer literate so please don't use too much computer lingo. Thanks for your help.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
