Problem in motherboard 990FXA-GD65

hi everyone i have a trouble with my mainboard, i seperate the cpu without open the metal lock, so is the mainboard drop down
and what about the cpu, i losed too and thanks

Hello!
Were you removing the cpu heat sink when this happened?  Sometimes the cpu comes out with the heat sink.  Look at the pins on the bottom of the spu carefully.  Are they all there and are none of them bent?
If none are broken off you are ok.  If any pins are bent, then you must straighten them so that they will fit back into the motherboard socket.

  • Problem my motherboard ( P55A GD65 )does not detect my second MSI 6950

i have a problem. I recently bought a MSI 6950 and i loved it so much i bought a second one, but when i plugged it in i could not activate crossfire, so i removed the 11.2 driver and installed 11.1 when that dident work i did the same and installed 11.4.
when that dident work i went to device manager and to my suprise it only detects one of my cards and not both of them.
My motherboard is crossfire ready, so i my power supply ( seasonic 850W ) and i did the following tests.
Put the first card in the first slot and boot and than in the second slot and boot and the same with the second card, every time it worked but when i put them both in and connect them with 2 crossfire bridges ( i even tried connecting just the one ) it doesnt work. ( the card does get power and works thought because both the fans of the cards are spinning.
Some of the updates are that i updated my bios via live update 5 to version 1.5 when it was 1.2 first.

    yes..
try to power up one of them with both combinations
also maybe you disconnected something, either some of the vgas or the memory stick to make such beeps..
so an update i tried what you said, putting them in without crossfire bridge and the powersupply did not beep but i did not see both cards detected in device manager either.
and i tried your second advice to power each of them with both combinations and that worked for 1 card but when i put them both in, it only showed one again

  • Motherboard 990fxa-gd65 V2 supports windows 8.1?

I'll be assembling a new pc these days, and one of the components is this motherboard. I checked in the webpage and the drivers are only for windows 8 (Newer motherboards have another pack of drivers for windows 8.1). I have read some topics from this forum and the people that tried say that it works fine, but i wanna be sure before installing anything. Do all the drivers and utilities that are downloaded from the webpage work on Windows 8.1? Or should i install windows 7?

The Win 8 drivers are fine for 8.1

  • 990FXA-GD65 LAN problems

    Hi
I recently attempted my first PC build and everything seems to be working about from my network connection. Every time i boot up i need to reinstall the network driver? The network will work otherwise but will give me speeds of around 200k or with the network driver reinstalled it goes up to my normal speed of above 30mb. Does anyone have suggestion on what could be happening?
    Thanks for any help

I asked MSI for support for the GD65.
No, you didn't.  You mentioned GD65 and GD80 in the problem description, just as you did here:

  • Msi 990fxa-gd65 vrm burned , refused rma :(

Hello firstly a happy x-mas to everyone
Let me state my story i bought msi 990fxa-gd65 and amd fx-8120 bulldozer cpu a few weeks back.
i installed it and it ran was very happy for 2 days , then it happened... , seems the vrm's burned !
let me explain you why i think was a faulty board.
when it did ran it gave 1.37volts to cpu at idle , stock 3.1ghz turbo disabled, was all ready high for me , but i thought i will try newer bios later , as wanted to play some bf3.
then i just ran 5min to see if all my memory is working , with blend test, and msi board gave 1.48 volts to cpu all stock settings nothing changed in bios except memory settings o.0
1.48 was why to high looking at other reports etc.
so when in bios to change last setting on my memory , and boom did not boot, try booting it few times, and boom there was smoke , vrms blown , without the pc even booting .
so it seems board and cpu died, they rma the cpu but the board they refused to.
the retail store told me they tried there best and only way i can get rma is with rma number from msi, i logged ticket on msi website no reply yet, hoping this post will get me a reply.

  • 990fxa GD65 and Sound Blaster Problems

    Hi Everyone,
Upgraded my motherboard to a 990fxa GD65 with 2 XFX hd7970 in Xfire.  Only 1 slot can be used to set up the sound card, which is a SB Titainium Fatality Professional PCIe sound card into PCIe2 slot.  The motherboard see's it, and the device manager see's it.  Even put test sound through the "primary sound device" manager and see the green sound bars move when I select a test sound.  PCIe2 slot should be fine for this card I would assume.  ..........and yes, the boards sound card is disabled in bios.  No conflicts with any other sound drivers or hardware that I can detect.  Any thoughts???????????????????

Quote from: exileLyk on 29-December-13, 18:28:15
This card needs one PCI-E x 1, right?
By that "Only 1 slot can be used to set up the sound card, which is a SB Titainium Fatality Professional PCIe sound card into PCIe2 slot" you mean that you installed your sound card into the second PCI-E x 1 (above the first PCI-E x 16 slot)?
I'm using the same PCI-E x 1 slot for my Sound Blaster Z sound card without a problem, didn't try other slots though.
Correct.  Sound Blaster card in slot #2 which is a PCIe x 1 slot.  Can't put this in any other slot because of the Xfire set up.  PCIe #1 slot can not be used because of the 990 chip set that is right in the way.  It is PCIe slot #2 or nothing.  But, slot PCIe #2 should work without a hitch.  Once again, card works fine.  FUBAR with the motherboard or drivers.  I am putting my chips on drivers.  Or, something is not good with the mobo.

  • MSI 990FXA-GD65 + AMD FX-6300 + 16GB 1866MHz RAM Won't Boot

    Hello,
Today I received parts for my new gaming system (sans water cooler, using the stock heatsink+fan until then), however I'm experiencing problems with the setup.  The specs are as follows:
    - MSI 990FXA-GD65
    - AMD FX-6300 CPU
    - GSKILL 16GB (2x8GB) 1866MHz DDR3 RAM
    - Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB SSD
    - 2x MSI GeForce GTX 660 Ti
    - EVGA NEX750B1 PSU
    - BitFenix Comrade case
Upon powering on (after assembly), the Phase Indicator only has the first two LEDs lit up (Phase 2 Power Mode, according to the manual).  No output is displayed on screen.  I've tried removing and re-inserting the CPU and removing one of the graphics cards, to no avail.
I would appreciate any help/advise that could be offered, that I might get this system up and running!
    Kind Regards

Try to run this system out of the case on non conductive area (e.g. plain cardboard) with 1 stick of RAM only, 1 GPU (try without any graphics cards too), single HDD/SSD, PSU of course, CPU+cooler and monitor+keyboard and mouse. When booting spam Delete and it should take you to the BIOS where you have to change timings of RAM suggested in the post about GSkill memory.
If possible, borrow different brand of RAM to test your PC with.
Make sure that if you're running single GPU, that video cable is connected to the card. If no GPU, then to the motherboard.

  • 990FXA-GD65 Vs. 990FXA-GD80

    Hello to every-one
I'm hoping someone can tell the difference between the "990FXA-GD65" and the "990FXA-GD80" in regards to performance and durability.
I've seen some people say that the GD65's Northbridge gets hot and that the GD80's does not, Would a hot Northbridge be a problem ?
I may do some light OC'ing.
Basically i would like to know which one would be better
What i will be doing: Game Programing, Gaming, Some rendering and Video conversion.
    I'm getting the FX-8120 BTW.
    Many thanks.

    Advantages:
Dr Mos:In order to provide customers stable and high quality products, starting from P45 series mainboards, MSI is leading the industry to introduce the world's most advanced power supply component, DrMOS (Driver-MOSFET), which integrates Driver IC, Top MOSFET and Bottom MOSFET into one chip. Except for its outstanding performance in power saving, DrMOS possesses switch frequency which is 400% faster than traditional MOSFET and has great improvement in stabilizing power supply and voltage control. Even under heavy loading and overclocking conditions, DrMOS can still provide the most stable and efficient power supply and quality.
    More PCI Lanes
Sideport Memory(Useful you buy a vga that support hybrid SLI or use onboard vga):  is used by ati tech. as dedicated buffer memory for integrated
graphics, located on the motherboard. It is usually higher clocked ddr2 or ddr3 memory
which is faster than usual system memory providing better performance for integrated graphics.
Motherboards claim for an increased >10% performance by using sideport memory.

APS:Active Phase Switching, APS, technology is an intelligent design that helps to save energy on MSI’s mainboards. The underlying idea is to switch off the power supply as soon as no electricity is needed, and when the system needs more resources again, APS will automatically adjust electricity supply accordingly. APS will automatically detect your processor’s loading at any given time and save energy accordingly. This is only possible by means of a very advanced power controlling technology. Other than software-based solutions, APS technology stands out from MSI's own research. The specially developed IC chip can operate automatically depending on the demands of the power supply, which is to reduce the total power usage.
Generally speaking with MSI boards, the first part of the model indicates the chipset ie 990fxa or z77 and the last set the tier. ie gd 65 / gd 80
Generally the higher the number at the end the higher end the motherboard.

  • Front Panel USB3 solution for 990FXA-GD65?

I just got a 990FXA-GD65 and a case with front panel USB3. I assumed (incorrectly) that there would be a USB3 header on the MB. Is there any way to hook up the front panel USB3 male plug (20-pin I believe) to one of the back panel USB ports with some kind of adapter?
    Thanks.

Yes they make those adapters and they make adapters for plugging those ports into the USB header on the motherboard. Then you can always put an add on card for USB3 connection.

    http://support.amd.com/it-it/download/chipset?os=Windows+8.1+-+64
    Thanks

it just depends if you have problems you have with your chipset!
if the answer is its working perfectly well and all the ports speeds are normal leave it alone and use your current ones!
if the answer is you are having issues with your USB ports or something else then update them!
(Newer drivers can sometimes induce problems with your system and it just depends if you have problems or not if its a good idea to update)

  • Starting New Build with 990FXA-GD65

    I received my 990FXA-GD65 Motherboard.
Waiting for delivery of the CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition Deneb.
    Memory: AMD Entertainment Edition 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333.
Heatsink: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus.
Question 1. On the 990FXA-GD65 motherboard there is a 4/8pin power connector (JPWR2). My power supply has both 4 & 8. which should i use?
Question 2: The board has an ATX 6-pin Power Connector (PWRCONN1) for the Graphics Card. My GeForce 8800GT card has a 6pin connector attached to it. Should i plug the power supply connector into the mainboard, graphic card, or both?
Thanks for any and all suggestions.
This is a build in progress and i plan on upgrading the graphic card and a few other things.

  • MSI Military Class II 990FXA-GD65 - No Signal

Hello. I'm an amateur builder and this is my third project. I've spent many hours trying to figure this one out with no luck, so here I am.
All the components are new, save for a stick of RAM. Everything seems to have power. I've only had it boot into BIOS once. As soon as I moved the mouse I lost signal to the monitor. I have not been able to reproduce this. I have cleared CMOS, reseated everything, tried a different monitor and video card and took it down to one weak stick of ram and one HDD. I've also tried using a VGA cable to no avail. The only thing I haven't tried is powering up the Motherboard outside the case. I haven't tried it because I'm under the impression that the motherboard had to be grounded to the case to work properly and safely, but I have seen it suggested on this forum in other similar threads.
Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
