  • Problem with PDF output quality

    We recently upgraded to CS4 Suite Design premium and i am having problems getting illustrator to print high quality output.  I have a file created in illustrator which contains 300dpi tiff images created in photoshop (CMYK colorspace in both photoshop image and illustrator file)  when i print this file to pdf everything looks hi-rez except these images.  i have attempted adjusting all the obvious settings in the print dialoge box including:  Output/Printer Resolution, Graphics/Postscript level, Advanced/overprint and transparency flattener options/custom settings.  and nothing has worked.  Other things i have noted, is that in the print dialog box the only presets listed are Custom, Default and Default Web/Video/Mobile.  I have looked through the online help files and found the info on how to add "High Quality Print" to my adobe pdf presets, however it doesn't work.  furthermore i have tried the instructions here: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Illustrator/14.0/WSA79FA899-BC95-401e-BD44-5B26BC31B369.html  where it says to move the files from "Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Application Support\Adobe PDF"  however there is no folder called "Application Support" on my system.  I have run out of ideas.
    The odd thing here, is that i can take the AI file into photoshop, and print a "High Quality Print" from photoshop with no problems, but i'd like to remove this step to speed up my workflow.
    I've attached both the high-quality pdf output from photoshop and the low-quality pdf output from illustrator for reference. (look closely at the logo's)

    Figured it out myself! yay!  (only took my entire moring)
    The solution:
    Dont print to PDF!
    SAVE AS COPY, then select Adobe PDF and click SAVE, this will bring up a dialog box with the options you need (including the "High Quality Print" Adobe PDF Preset)
    This was not clear in any of the instructions i read

  • Once Again, Problems with PDF Output in 3.0

    Sorry that i write another thread to this topic. i think i ´ve read all other posts (and oracle documents from oracle) but i can´t find the answer to my problem
    there a two things i wondering about:
    first: What is the right port (and how can i prove it, which one is used?)
    Some write use 8888 , some use the listener Port 1521 ???
    second: after copying the fop directory, do i have to use
    oc4j -install ?
    Bonus Questions :-)
    I always get 0 length pdf documents. Is there a logfile, where i can look in?
    At my first try i put the 3 lines at the of the file application.xml, but i got an error
    now i use this :
    <library path="../../../j2ee/fop-0.20.5/build/fop.jar"/>
    <library path="../../../j2ee/fop-0.20.5/lib/batik.jar"/>
    <library path="../../../j2ee/fop-0.20.5/lib/avalon-framework-cvs-20020806.jar" />
    </orion-application>#
    Is this the right position?
    Thanks
    marco

    Hi Marco,
    First: What is the right port (and how can i prove it, which one is used?)In your OC4J configuration there will be a line which specifies which port should be used. To check which port it is try doing this -
    [jes@db j2ee]$ grep "port=" home/config/http-web-site.xml
    <web-site host="localhost" port="8888"
    <web-site port="8888" display-name="Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE HTTP Web Site">
        <!-- <frontend host="your_host_name" port="80" /> -->I ran that command whilst in the j2ee directory, you can see the output I got (3 lines), so in my case it is running on port 8888 (the third line is actually commented out).
    To check if the port is actually listening, try this -
    [root@db root]# lsof -i:8888
    COMMAND  PID USER   FD   TYPE  DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME
    java    9047 root   14u  IPv4 5133190       TCP *:8888 (LISTEN)
    java    9048 root   14u  IPv4 5133190       TCP *:8888 (LISTEN)
    java    9049 root   14u  IPv4 5133190       TCP *:8888 (LISTEN)
    java    9050 root   14u  IPv4 5133190       TCP *:8888 (LISTEN)
    java    9051 root   14u  IPv4 5133190       TCP *:8888 (LISTEN)
    java    9052 root   14u  IPv4 5133190       TCP *:8888 (LISTEN)
    java    9053 root   14u  IPv4 5133190       TCP *:8888 (LISTEN)
    java    9054 root   14u  IPv4 5133190       TCP *:8888 (LISTEN)
    java    9055 root   14u  IPv4 5133190       TCP *:8888 (LISTEN)
    java    9057 root   14u  IPv4 5133190       TCP *:8888 (LISTEN)
    java    9058 root   14u  IPv4 5133190       TCP *:8888 (LISTEN)
    java    9060 root   14u  IPv4 5133190       TCP *:8888 (LISTEN)
    java    9061 root   14u  IPv4 5133190       TCP *:8888 (LISTEN)
    second: after copying the fop directory, do i have to use
    oc4j -install ?No, when you run OC4J it should automatically setup the files for you, you can start the OC4J container by doing this -
    [root@db home]# $ORACLE_HOME/jdk/bin/java -jar oc4j.jar
    07/03/29 07:05:43 Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE 10g (9.0.4.0.0) initializedYou can change the path to the java command to suit your own installation.
    Is this the right position?This is what my application.xml looks like -
    [root@db config]# more application.xml

  • Problems with PDF output

    I created a journal page in Illustrator - which is a series of lines, some thicker than others.  They have been combined into a layout for a journal in InDesign.  All looks great and prints great from both programs.
    When I output to PDF I lose the integrity of my lines.  On screen they all look the same width (and they shouldn't), and when I print from the pdf, the thinner lines are completely gone.  I have tried various PDF settings and can't figure out what is causing the problem and why the pdf isn't looking exactly like the original.

    Are you printing with Adobe Acrobat? Other PDF software sometimes gives strange behavior, especially Preview.

  • Excel file trucation in PDF output file

    Having problem with PDF output file as the imported EXCEL table gets truncated - approx. the left 1/2 upper left corner is the only part of the table that appears in the PDF file.  Master file displays correctly in PM. No apparent memory issue so any thoughts? Thanks.

    A bit more info please.
    Windows or Mac, and which versions?
    Which version of PM?
    How did you import the speadsheet into PM?
    How did you create the PDF?
    Cropping and displacement of meta-files when creating PDFs from PM is well known and there are work-arounds.
    The long term answer is move on to InDesign.

  • Recorded Text Entries are displayed unclean in PDF Output

    I'm creating currently a screencast with Captivate 7. Within this screencast, I have to type an adress into the adress bar of Internet Explorer. Captivate records this entry automatically in Full Motion, this works good.
    But I had to note, that the output in PDF destroys the text entry. During the entry, the textcursor appears after every single sign and the entry becomes unclean.
    This problem appears also, when I'm scaling the project. Then it appears in all outputs.
    Does anyone have the same problem and a solution for this problem?
    This picture shows the problem in PDF Output.

    Try turning off all compression options in Preferences > Project > SWF Size and Quality.  Also try setting quality of any affected slides to High 24bit or Optimized. Then republish and test again.

  • Some of Chinese character is not displaying correctly in PDF output

    Hi all
    I'm involved in the 1st Peoplesoft project in Korea and having a difficulty with displaying Chinese character in PDF output.
    Usually Koreans can translate their name in Chinese and that Chinese name is displayed in personal information in their company as well as Korean name.
    With Oracle BI Publisher I made rtf template that includes employees' Chinese name and tried to export to PDF output.
    Most of Chinese character was fine but '李' character that was ok in HTM output was crashed in PDF output.
    So I researched and tested some solutions.
    Here's what I did.
    I downloaded and installed five fonts(ALBANWTS.ttf, ALBANWTT.ttf, ALBANWT.ttf, ALBANWTK.ttf, ALBANWTJ.ttf) in client machine(c:\windows\fonts\) and did mapping job with xdo.cfg configuration file.
    After that I previewed PDF output in the rtf template and checked embeded fonts in the PDF file.
    I can see the newly installed font was embeded but still '李' character is crashed.
    My problem is little bit different from others becuase only one Chinese character is crashed by for now.
    The Chinese character '李' is very common last name in Korea and I believe Simplified Chinese character font have in it.
    Please let me know if you have any solutions or experiance.
    Thanks and best regards
    Kwangbock.

    Hi James
    Oh~ It perfectly works!!
    I've been tried to solve this problem for a long time and
    I really appreciate for your help~
    Thanks~

    Hi, <br>
    The <fonts> is part of the <config> tag. So, your 2nd config file looks correct. Can't really see the xml that u've pasted correctly because the <*font> tag get read as HTML in this post. <br>
    <br>
    Anyway, your font config shld look something like that: <br>
    <fonts><br>
    <*font family="Default" style="normal" weight="normal"><br>
    <truetype path="ALBANWTS.ttf" /><br>
    <*/font><br>
    </fonts>
    <br><br>
    *remove the asterix when put in ur xdo.config file.

  • HELP!! PDF output repot problem

    We have a report run from a link on a web page that returns a PDF file created by an Oracle Report. I made a change to the static text on the report and now I get this error:
    REP-1610547602 Unable to retrieve a string from the Report Builder message file
    I have searched Metalink but the suggested solutions haven't worked. This report was fine, but we have had a DB and App Server upgrade since the last time it was compiled. We have always compiled on a Windows box and ftp to the UNIX app server. Apparently there is a bug for PDF output, but the work arounds I found on Metalink either haven't worked or I don't know how to do what was indicated (changing font size).
    I believe this error is occurring because of some default value somewhere that is now causing an error. I need to fix this because it's a production report.
    TIA

    Have you checked the cache or reports output directory on the reports server if it's actually a blank report?
    I have seen in other threads that there are problems with some Acrobat Reader 6 versions. The plugin for Internet Explorer doesn't seem to work properly. Check the version on the clients.
