(apologies on the sticky, i misclicked!)
I've had my Zen Vision:M 30GB for over a year now, and I absolutely love it! Unfortunately, while on my New Years vacation this past week I accidentally dropped it after it tangled in my headphones. Immediately afterwards, I started getting the "recovery mode" problem that seems to crop up. Unable to get past this(it booted only once every million-or-so tries), I decided to use the "MP3 recovery tool" from Creative's site
Unfortunately, it froze up halfway through, and now is giving me a "Hard Disk error". I tried to reformat, and it seemed to wipe it clean...but now it wont even recognize it when I plug it into my USB port to put in new firmware! (The PC recognizes it, but not the Firmware installation)
    I don't know what else I can do....any ideas/help, please?
(I looked at Creative's support pages, but they only deal with Warranty repairs, which I don't have as it was a gift.) Can they repair/replace a broken non-warranty player, and if so, for how much?
Or is there another solution I haven't tried yet?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

  • Problem with Recovery Partition(After i got a Virus)

    Hi all,
I am using HP Envy 15 notebook with windows 7 home premium x64-bit installed.I didnt create the recovery disks since i got this notebook and what happened is that i got a virus from the internet but i almost repaired all system faults caused by it but the main problem for me is that it change all main drive folders name into Virus1232 for example (d:\recovery changed into d:\virus1234) and i spent hours over the internet to get the right folder and file names and i got them all but only one file not sure of.My problem is when i enter the Recovery Manager it doesn't detect any my recovery partition(but the virus isnt responsible for any file deletion it just caused some system changes) and just to speak i also corrected the folder and file names in c: drive since they are needed too.
    These are the filenames i got in D: drive : bootmgr - BT_HP.flg - CSP.DAT - DeployRp.log -  HPSF_Rep.txt - language.ini ; and the filename let is the one im not sure of: "HP_WSD.dat" (it is a zero-byte file).
The recoverymgrdump.txt works right untit "CSBRMgr::GetRPTOOLPartIndex leaving!"
    then it tells me :
"Win32 System Info Code = 3, Info Message = The system cannot find the path specified."
    and it also say :
    "CSBRMgr::HpcdFlgIsExistInUP <UP>:\WINDOWS\hpdrcu.prc does not exist."
I dont know if that is normal but also the deployrp.log gives me this error:
    "Package does not exist: c:\RM\Tools\DeployRp\WinPE_LangPacks\64\winpe-setup.cab"
ofcourse there are more errors in both files but i guess those are the most important.
So my question is: could the file attributes in d: drive be responsible for this error(i changed all attrbutes to be system hidden and read only)
    OR
If anyone have a solution please tell me what to do.
    Thanks.

You are best to order a set of Recovery discs from HP, doi a full recovery using those.
You can order recovery media here
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00810334&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en

  • Qosmio G30 - system problem after recovery procedure

I have Qosmio G30 - 148 which have Windows XP MCE, when trying to download some programs system crashed and make automatic restart.
I then used a RECOVERY CD to recover my all system and followed the instructions on the CD but when finished and rebooting the system a famous blue screen displayed tell me there's a problem in my system and windows must be restarted.
When reboot in safe mode there is a message tell me that the system is not fully installed. Please run setup again.
Could any body help me in that problem because it's a strange problem?
Note: I tried to install Windows XP from external CD but system did not know the hard disk.

    Hi Ahmed
    I would try to provide some useful hints;
First of all you can install the XP Pro on the Qosmio G30 this is no problem.
I assume you couldnt install the XP on the G30 because your have not installed the RAID driver firstly. As far as I know the XP would not recognize the HDD without the RAID driver.
The RAID driver installation is not very difficult. During the XP Setup procedure you have to press the F6 to include the driver from the external USB FDD drive.
If you dont have a USB diskette drive, then you could use a nLite to create a new XP CD with the RAID driver.
However despite everything Im not sure if this will help.
There could be really a hardware issue with your G30.

  • Weird problems with recovery partition

Hi. I just got a new X1 Carbon a few days ago. When trying to install Ubuntu, I messed up the bootmgr. At that point I still had the option F11 for recovery on startup, but choosing it did not give any results and after a restart, the option was gone. When researching the problem, I found this thread:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/Need-help-with-recovery-partition-create-recov...
Since my recovery partition Q was untouched, the steps described in the thread allowed me to restore partitions S and C. So far so good, but now the problems start.
First, the letters of the partitions get messed up after every reboot. I assign Windows7_OS the letter C, SYSTEM_DRV gets S, and Lenovo_Recovery gets Q. Diskpart then lists the drives with correct letters. But after a reboot, they're back to D,C,E, respectively.
Then, when I boot the Windows recovery disk from a usb stick, it correctly recognizes that Windows is installed on drive D. It suggests that there are startup problems, which I tell it to fix. After the next reboot, it does not warn me about startup problems. When I then go to command prompt and enter
    bootrec.exe /fixmbr
    bootrec.exe /fixboot
then the Windows recovery disk commits suicide. It seems to attempt to fix its own bootmgr. At the moment, both usb stick and hard disk run with grub (Windows recovery on a multiboot installed by YUMI). After I run the commands above, the hard disk still runs with grub, but the usb stick now has bootmgr and fails to boot. I have tried this several times, each time recreating the Windows recovery disk with YUMI, and every time the same result.
F11 option is of course still gone. At this point I'm out of my wits. Any suggestions are welcome.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

In the end I formatted and made a clean install. F11 Option is gone. Recovery partition is still untouched, but I don't think it will be used again. Followed this advice to install a fresh Windows 7 using a usb stick:
    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164
Since I did not have access to Windows with administrator rights, I had to use Ubuntu to create the bootable Windows stick:
    http://cloud101.eu/blog/2012/03/24/create-a-windows-7-live-disk-from-ubuntu-linux/
The WiFi driver was not included in Windows, so I had to download that in another system, and install manually. From there I could then go online in Windows to download the remaining drivers from Lenovo (after the clean install there's a long list of unrecognized devices).
Since the laptop comes with 4 primary partitions preinstalled I had to merge the SYSTEM_DRV and the Windows7_OS partition in order to create an additional partition for Ubuntu. Then I installed Ubuntu and took control of the startup behavior using EasyBCD.

  • USB Drives - Problem with Recovery Manager

I bought a Kingston DataTraveler 112 16GB thumb drive so I could copy the recovery image as a backup. It recognized the thumb drive and showed that the recovery image was a little over 11GB. But when it started to format the USB, it returned to the previous screen and no longer showed the drive there. At the bottom of the screen it said to contact HP Support but it didn't give me an error message. Now when I try the recovery manager it won't recognize the USB at all.
Prior to that I had purchased another 16GB USB--don't remember which brand. I have 5 other USB drives, but they're all smaller, except a 32GB Kingston DT101 G2 which does not work on this computer, although it worked on my previous computer (Pavilion w/Vista Home Premium) with no problem. All these USBs, including the new Kingston are for USB 2.0.
OS is Windows 8.1 64 bit on HP Pavilion 500-A60 desktop. I've tried the problem USB drives in all 4 ports (2.0 and 3.0). Also in the one I plug into a port to give me 3 USB ports, also used on my prior computer.
Is it possible that this computer doesn't recognize Kingston or certain other brands of USB thumb drives?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The trick to this is to use a USB 2.0 port and to use a non-Windows 8 certified thumbdrive. If the USB flash drive shows as a "removable device" then there should be no issue in using the media to create recovery media
I have had great success with a Transcend USB 3.0 16-GB flash disk.
I own a couple of DataTraveler flash disks and had the same lack of success creating recovery media that you did. I have also had zero success with Sandisk Extreme usb 3.0 flash disks

  • Problem with recovery mode detection

    Anyone help?
    Am using my 80g ipod classic on both home and work laptop (both running vista). Every time I plug into my home PC, no problem. Yet, every time I connect to my work machine I get the following message;
'Itunes has detected and Ipod in recovery mode. You will need to reset before continuing'
Or words to that affect. I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and this does solve the problem, but frankly it's a pain in the neck having to do that every time I'm in the office.
    Suggestions?

Maybe a change of drive letter on your work PC will do the trick.

  • Problem with recovery mode.

I'm not new to this sort of thing and I know how to solve most problems but here is where I have a problem:
So I got back from vacation today, and while in Jersey, I was killing myself over the fact that the 2.0 update was out. So I get back and try to update it, but when the update got to the part where it had to restore the iPod, I got the error message (-6). So now my iPod is stuck in recovery mode, and I know, to get it out of recovery mode, you just simply restore it on your not mentally ******** computer. So I go to restore it, but all it does is give me the same error message.
I don't know what to do, but after I am done writing this message, I plan on using MSCONIG to see if that works.
    Anything, ANYTHING, will help.
    -Thanks

i had the same problem but you have to creat a new user account under control panel and open up and reinstall itunes in the new Account. afterwards just restore it and it will be restored.my only problem is it wont let me ***** use the new software that ive already purchased

  • Installing a SSD Samsung 830 Drive on my 520 - Problem with Recovery partition

    Hello,
I am installing a 128GB Samsung 830 SSD on the W520, and i've put the original 50GB HDD on a HDD bay replacing the DVD/CD. bay.
I did a system recovery on the HDD, to put it on its original states. Then I used Acronis True Image HD to clone the HDD to the SSD. I have the main partition on the SSD along with the Lenovo_recovery partition. I then install the SSD on the HD slot, and start the PC. No problem till there. It starts, and the machine works fine.
I then do a system recovery from the HDD, and the recovery process goes to the end, but when the system restarts, I have a crash and it asks me to introduce the windows recovery disk. But I cannot starts anything anymore.
If I reinstall the 500GB HDD, it start no problem.
Any idea? Thank you for your help!

Really? Then how did you get the Samsung SSD in there to begin with. Look, you got two choices here: 1. Return the SSD for a refund, or 2. Find a Windoes PC & update the firmware.
Why you'd purchase an SSD, to use in a Mac, whose firmware can only be updated using a Windows computer, makes no sense to me.

    Hi,
This information for you to use created media is possible due to several reasons such as, recovery partition is currupt, missing, or some files are not readable.
in such cases, you need to use created media as 1st step and if you fail to perform recovery using created media. you need to order one from hp. link below

  • Problem running Recovery

    Hi,
I have a Compaq Presario CQ61-318SO with Windows 7 64bit. Yesterday, I dropped my laptop accidently and after that I tried to start the laptop but I got the following message:
                                                                                                       Windows Boot manager
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
    1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
    2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next"
    3. Click "Repair your computer"
if you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
    Enter= Continue                                                              Esc= Exit
After the message, I clicked on Continue, it happened nothin. Then I restarted and ran hard disk test . The result was "hard disk not Exist".
After that I changed the boot  order to CD and tried to run recovery form my recovery CDs' but after loading files and showing windows logo it showed only an arrow with black screen and nothing happened.
Can anybody tell me is my "Hard disk" which is faulty and need to be replaced or do I need to order new recovery dics?
I also opened hard disk cover and slackened the hard disk screws and tried to see if any thing wrong with hard disk like if anything is broken but I saw nothing. I tried to shaken the hard disk and I heard a noise that may b a screw or else is colliding with other parts of hard disk. I dont know if it is normal.
    Anybody please help!

  • Accidentally Erased Mailbox, Problem With Recovery, Am DESPERATE FOR HELP!!

I won't bore everyone with the specifics, but I accidentally deleted a mailbox containing tons of emails. I only realized this about an hour later... didn't do too much between the act and the realization. I immediately shut down the Mac, got another Mac, my roommate's iBook downloaded Data Rescue onto it, hooked up the first one, which is an eMac btw, to the iBook, restarted it in Firewire target disk mode, and ran the program. It isolated a bunch of files, presumably from Apple Mail since they were all mbox format, which I then saved. I was pretty happy since I figured I was okay after-all. Well...
I restarted the eMac, with all the mbox files contained. I know that in Tiger, all email is saved in another format, .emlx, so I was confused, but didn't really question it. I simply hoped that I would be able to convert them in Apple Mail.
Well, that hasn't happened... each time I would try, the program would abruptly quit. One possible reason is that there's maybe too much to import; in the end, all the saved mbox files come in at 6.76 gigs... which to be honest, seems way too high. I then tried to import each file on at a time, but again, the program would simply quit.
After looking around on the web, I came across the suggestion that I rename the file. Instead of being Mail-00170, it was suggested I get rig of the "-", so I did. This time the file was accepted, but the end result was an email that had no information that also wouldn't fully load.
And after checking out a few mbox files at random, but dragging them into Text Edit, instead of being emails, they all seem to contain iTunes playlist info for some reason.
If anyone can offer some insight or maybe some help before I hang myself, it would be greatly appreciated...

Mail 2.x doesn’t store mail in standard mbox format. The only way you might have found Mail messages in a “recovered” mbox file is if it was a Mail 1.x file that Mail 2.x left there after the conversion to the new *.emlx format when you upgraded from Mac OS X 10.3 or earlier to Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).
If you don’t have a backup, the only data recovery utility that I know for sure can currently recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage. Beware, however, that having tried to fix the problem by other means may have caused some of the deleted messages to already have been overwritten.
